Jeans Jihad: Latest Anti-Muslim Narrative, Born As Crackdown On Illegal Units, Decimates A Delhi Neighbourhood
Once a thriving hub in India’s denim supply chain, West Delhi’s Muslim-majority Khayala jeans market slid into crisis after the 2024 Delhi elections. An unfounded conspiracy theory, amplified by local influencers and the media, ended in closed businesses and thousands of lost jobs, including those of Hindus and Sikhs. Khayala’s decline reflects a wider pattern: similar boycotts have been reported over the past four years in nine states—eight of them ruled by the BJP—including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh.

From ashes to independence: How riot-affected women in Delhi found strength in Sabaat
From ashes to independence: How riot-affected women in Delhi found strength in Sabaat
The 2020 Delhi pogrom left behind shattered homes, lost livelihoods, and women forced into silence by grief and fear. Yet, in the heart of this devastation, a quiet revolution began. Sabaat, an initiative born out of compassion and resilience, has given riot-affected women not just a safe space to share their trauma but also the tools to rebuild their lives. Through stitching, training, and newfound sisterhood, women who once felt powerless are now earning, standing tall, and reclaiming independence with dignity and hope.
Women In J&K Are Having The Same Number Of Babies As Japan’s. That’s Where The Comparison Ends
Women In J&K Are Having The Same Number Of Babies As Japan’s. That’s Where The Comparison Ends
The average woman in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) now bears 1.4 children, the same as Japan’s, a developed country now regarded as being in a demographic crisis. A falling fertility rate is normally a sign of economic success, but that has not happened in J&K, which ranks 27 of 31 states and union territories by per capita gross domestic product. Wracked by unemployment, conflict, drug use and health issues, the region’s success in tamping down on population growth may now result in a shrinking, ageing population, fewer young people and labour shortages.

How Govt In India’s Capital Keeps Homeless Out Of Shelters: By Insisting On IDs & Phone Numbers
Despite government claims, Indian shelters can house only 103,426 of 1.7 million homeless. The real number of homeless may be at least twice that figure in urban areas alone. Officials allegedly manipulate data to evade legal obligations to the homeless, and keep the most vulnerable from accessing shelters by demanding identity proof and phone numbers, which almost all do not have. It’s been 14 years since a Supreme Court order to provide a shelter for every 100,000 people, with water, food and healthcare.
