- Use High quality water - Reverse osmosis, rainwater, or distilled water. Tap water can burn the roots of most carnivorous plants. - Keep soil constantly moist, but not waterlogged - place your plants in a saucer or tray and fill it with about 2 inches of water. As it gets low, refill.

- Provide lots of direct light - I grow all of my pitcher plants, sundews, and flytraps out in direct, all-day Southern California sunshine. The more, the better. - Avoid windowsills unless they're incredibly bright for most of the day, as they generally don't get enough sunlight.

Feeding & Fertilizing

- Keep plants outdoors and they'll catch their own food! Don't worry about feeding. - DO NOT fertilize these plants - they have very sensitive roots, and there's a good chance you kill them.

Winter Care & Dormancy

- American pitcher plants, flytraps, and even some sundews will have slower growth or outright dormancy during Fall and Winter. Leaves will die back. Trim off dead leaves, continue caring for the plant, and come spring - around February or March, the plants will begin to reawaken for the season!

- Repotting is best done during winter dormancy to avoid stressing plants. Use a 50/50 mix of peat moss (with no added fertilizers) and perlite. Wet the new mix, wash most of the old mix off of the roots of the plant, and transfer the plant to a new or bigger pot. Avoid unglazed clay or terracotta pots, as they will leach minerals into the soil and burn the plant's roots. Position the crown, or growth point of pitcher plants and flytraps just poking out about the surface of the soil.
