Burford
Burford
Burford proudly characterises itself as "The Gateway to the Cotswolds" and was recently voted "one of Europe's most idyllic places to live" by Forbes magazine. This was a prosperous trading village during the Middle Ages and is steeped in local tradition. Burford is also one of the best preserved medieval towns in the region with many of the buildings up to 600 years old and the church of St John the Baptist regarded as one of the finest in England. Whilst here there will be time to explore the town, visit the church and stroll along the picturesque high street. www.gotoursuk.com
Bibury
Bibury
Welcome to Bibury, a picture-perfect Cotswold village. William Morris (1834-96) described Bibury as "the most beautiful village in England". Take a stroll to the Arlington Row, often referred to as the most photographed and beautiful cottages in the country. Originally built in 1380 as a monastic wool store, the building was then converted into a row of weavers' cottages in the 17th century. People live there today so please be respectful. www.gotoursuk.com
Bourton-on-the-Water
Bourton-on-the-Water
Welcome to Bourton-on-the-Water, a charming Cotswold village often called the "Venice of the Cotswolds." Famous for its honey-coloured stone buildings and idyllic setting, Bourton isn't a museum; it's a living village with around 4,000 residents. The heart of Bourton is the River Windrush, which meanders through the village, crossed by five picturesque arched bridges. You can stroll along the riverbanks, relax by the water, and watch the ducks go by. The village offers a variety of attractions, from the famous Model Village to the Cotswold Motoring Museum, along with unique shops, restaurants, cafes, and tea rooms. Depending on the time of year, Bourton can be bustling, especially on holidays and sunny weekends. If it is a little busy, why not get food-to-go and walk the Windrush Way? www.gotoursuk.com
Stow-on-the-Wold
Stow-on-the-Wold
A jumble of ancient inns & antique shops located around the bustling market square. Stow has been an important centre of local trade for centuries and is known for being the location of the last battle of the English Civil War in March 1646. The town has provided inspiration to JRR Tolkien and remains home to ‘England’s oldest pub’. www.gotoursuk.com
