Libraries are essential infrastructure in our communities, providing information, entertainment, and public services. In order to meet the needs of our patrons and to set standards that allow us to recruit and retain highly skilled staff, librarians and library workers need a voice. We also need and deserve fair treatment and job security. That’s why library workers in Ohio — across multiple library systems — are coming together to build their unions and have a voice at work. Here’s a look at what we’ve accomplished so far.

Librarians and library workers at Columbus Metropolitan Library are coming together to form our union because we love our libraries and we are dedicated to serving our community. We deserve a voice in the policies that affect us, and we will use that collective voice to make our library system stronger, more accessible, and more equitable. Stand with us and tell our CEO and Board of Trustees to remain neutral, not try to delay our union election, and not waste any library resources or funds opposing the formation of our union.

Most importantly, voluntary recognition of our union is a clear statement to the community that ACPL staff, administration, and Board members are united to provide the highest quality libraries and resources to our patrons.”
