IPA Nature/Flowers winner! International Photography Awards 2023 The Sweet Pea, or Lathyrus, is known for its delicate, sweet fragrance and a rainbow of different colours. It has a long blooming period of late spring through summer, making it an attractive accent to any garden. The flowers have a delicate, abstract quality, usually with 5 petals that form a butterfly-shaped structure – one large banner petal, two horizontal petals and two lower petals. International Photography Awards 2023 'Patty's Plum' is a luscious oriental poppy (Papaver orientalis) with large, blousy flowers of a deep pink colour, each with a contrasting darker centre. These flowers appear in early summer, accompanied by bristly, grey-green leaves. This is an uncommon colour for poppy flowers. Pink poppies mean compassion and restful sleep, and also symbolise love and healing. Pink is related to warmth and love, gentleness, beauty, and an outgoing personality. International Photography Awards 2022 This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of white Amaryllis flowers made over 157 hours as they flowered. Victorians associated the Amaryllis flower with feminine strength and power. The giving of the Amaryllis flower in the Victorian era symbolised significant respect and admiration. In addition to the popular red variety, the Amaryllis can be purple, pink, yellow or white. The colour white is often said to symbolise purity and spirituality. White Amaryllis flowers can also symbolise children and innocence. Archival pigment print on smooth light gloss Canson Baryta 310gsm art paper.

This Botanical Optical image is created from a single photograph selected from hundreds of time-lapse photographs of an Amaryllis made over a period of 227 hours as it flowered. According to Greek mythology, Amaryllis was a love-struck maiden who longed for the handsome but cold-hearted Alteo. Desperate to win his love, she pierced her heart with a golden arrow and then visited his shepherd’s hut every day for 30 days. When at last Alteo opened his door, there before him was a striking crimson flower, sprung from the blood of Amaryllis's heart. Alteo was won over, her heart was healed, and today the Amaryllis has come to represent pride, determination, and radiant beauty. A Golden Eagle in strike mode. Golden eagles are one of the best-known birds of prey in the Northern Hemisphere. These birds are dark brown, with lighter golden-brown plumage on their napes. Golden eagles use their agility and speed combined with powerful feet and massive, sharp talons to snatch up a variety of prey, mainly hares, rabbits, small rodents and squirrels. A series of portraits of a panther, or black leopard. Panthers are more commonly known these days as black leopards or black jaguars. The colouring is caused by melanism and gives the black leopard an advantage in the dense forests they are native to, where light levels are low. The leopard’s spotted markings are visible but hidden by the dark pigmentation. Archival pigment print on smooth matt Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm heavyweight art paper.
