Lazarus Come Out

Inspired by the work of Degas and his dancer paintings, and also my love of ballet dancers and the way they can convey vulnerability and femininity despite performing with so much power and strength, this painting conveys the moment when a dancer has collapsed onto the stage floor following a frantic dance.

Inspired by the image of my wife curled up on the sofa relaxing.  I painted this picture in the neo fauvist style with bright and bold colours in part to combat my colourblindness, but also to signify the bright and colourful presence of my wife.
