Tonight was our first (and hopefully only) attempt to get rid of the GIANT weed that has taken root in our front yard. It is growing right in the middle of one of the plants so we are convinced that it started growing four years ago when our house was built and rather then pulling it out when it was just little they would just trim off the top so you couldn't see it over the bush. Well since our house was vacant for quite some time before we moved in, it just kept growing and growing (side note, we did trim the weed at least four times before tonight). We started working on it at dusk so I hope the pictures can be seen ok but the first will give you an idea of the height....
This is the process of getting rid of the weed, first we (keep in mind when I say we it was mostly Dane, I took pictures and held the flashlight :) ) anyway we used a saw to cut off all the branches to stump.
Once we got to the stump which was about 6" wide we drilled some holes
Then we sprayed RoundUp to our hearts content all over the stump and in the drilled holes.
Hopefully that will do the trick but only time will tell. We decided if the bush the weed is growing in happens to get a little damaged or killed it will be worth it to plant a new one. This thing was HUGE! Here is the remnants of what we cut down...
Yes, I did feel that this weed was big enough to constitute a blog post about :)
