Thanks for visiting our blog!

This Blog is a way for us to record our adventures and share our stories (lore) with friends and family. 

We started this blog when we went to Norway with Mike’s Valle Exchange program, and now it has become a fun place to add stories to as we have grown our family and been incredibly fortunate to do live aboard a few times with Mike’s job.

We are grateful to be able to share our lives with you and hope our paths will cross with you on an adventure sometime soon!

Background:
Brooke was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Mike in Cleveland, Ohio, USA.

We met in Utah shortly after Brooke finished her degree at BYU in Fitness and Wellness Management and Mike was finishing his Graduate degree in Engineering. We dated for a year while Brooke worked as a counselor in the field at WalkAbout (an outdoor therapy program for youth) and Mike finished up his Graduate degree in Engineering at BYU. We married in the Bountiful Temple in Utah, and used our honeymoon to quickly moved to Seattle, Washington to start Mike’s PhD at the University of Washington. We loved living in the the beautiful city of Seattle for 3 years. 

As newly-weds, we enjoyed biking around the city on Friday nights, exploring the U District, walking Green lake with new-found friends, and hosting friends and family in our tiny colorful apartment in the UDistrict. Brooke worked as a nanny near Woodland park zoo, then at REI Flagship store (once she got her green card), and then landed her dream job as Head Coach of the new up-and-coming Bellevue Badminton Club. Brooke loved her job creating and teaching the junior program and growing the women’s ladder.

From Seattle, we jumped on an scholarship opportunity to live in Oslo, Norway for the last year of Mike’s PhD. We loved everything about living in Europe…traveling by plane, train and no automobiles, experiencing the wonderful Norwegian culture and meeting incredible friends! Sometimes now that we’re back in Idaho one of our favorite things to do is just sit and talk about all our adventures traveling Europe for 14 month (more about that in the blog!). We made so many memories in that one year, our time in Norway will be forever deeply etched in our minds.

From Oslo we moved to Moscow, Idaho (who would have guess it?! Not I!!!). Mike started his career as a professor in the Civil Engineering department at the University of Idaho and the cold reality of real life set in….literally 

We arrived (7 months pregnant) to Moscow in the dead of winter (which felt colder than Norway’s winter somehow!) had our first baby girl in a spring snow storm at the beginning of April! 

Hannah Joy Lowry in 2009, then Kaiya Leone Lowry in the winter of 2011, and last but definitely not least, Eilee Skye Lowry in 2014.

Somewhere along the way, we have raised wonderful daughters, bought an investment property, sold and bought a couple houses, traveled, had lots of adventures and well…..the rest is a story told over time in this blog.

We hope you enjoy the read. We have tried to write it in a way that isn’t just telling about our amazing story called life, and with the intention to share, our thoughts, ideas and dreams with our readers.

  1. you are a lovely couple, and have a wonderful family, your well travelled and very interesting,i too love everything I have come to realize of Norway and the Norwegian’s I met on the internet. you have my continued good wishes.I live just outside of Victoria, on Vancouver island, british Columbia,canada,i grew up attending the Calgary stampede every july for many years all the best to you and your family, Ron :-))
