2D Looking Like 3D: Drawing and its Systems of Depth and Perspective

Saturday, January 31 11am-3pm

Presented by Mercedes Teixido

Many drawing traditions use the illusion of depth as a creative or a diagrammatic tool. This workshop will introduce a few distinct approaches, each with their unique history. Think about overlapping forms, quilts with patterns of illusion and paintings that use linear perspective to mimic the way that our vision experiences space. This fast pace class will use a variety of materials and techniques to encourage experimentation with the aim of enriching the artists toolbox towards the invention of one’s own technique.

Play and Improvisation: Drawing as Process

Saturday, February 7 11am-3pm

Presented by Mercedes Teixido

Surrealist drawing engages drawing as an event. Fluxus used the idea of a prompt to activate the making of an art piece. Collaboration and the disruption of strict representation allow for all kinds of impulses to arise and land on the paper. This workshop is an invitation to enter the fluxus and surrealist mindset through historic exercises and even our own invented games. Be prepared for your making to outpace your thinking as we let ourselves be guided by unexpected and unnamable sources.

How to Make a Pattern from a Garment

Saturday, March 7, 10am - 3pm

Presented by Lisa Sanders

This intermediate workshop will cover how to make a pattern from an existing garment. It will include how to test the pattern to make sure that it is accurate by cutting and sewing a version in plain muslin. Participants bring a garment to copy. Due to space restrictions, a garment under 30" long would be best, such as an adult top, short skirt or short pants. Alternately, participants can bring an article of children's clothing if they prefer.
