For those new to Astarter the project launched the first Astarter ISPO (v1.0) component at the end of September 2022 (Epoch 366), enabling staking $ADA to Astarter AA1 stake pool to earn an assignment of $AA tokens. After 30 Epochs the first ISPO pool AA1 moved into a Transition Reward Incentive phase increasing rewards with an incentive consisting of three incremental tiers, TRI75 is the highest reward tier for staking ADA to AA1 stake pool.

During TRI75 AA1 stake pool ISPO base $AA reward increases by 75% and the pool $ADA rewards rate is 75% inline with the pool margin parameter of 25% when activated on-chain.

Example: 1000 Staked ADA = 0.875 AA per epoch.

New developments and updates.

Following the launch of the Astarter AA1 stake pool, there has been a mountain of development. While market conditions haven’t been favourable for the TGE, we adapt and remain consistent with a community and security-first approach to product development. The first beta product was released six months after smart contracts went live on Cardano. Multiple Beta tests of Astarter DEX versions, leveraging the performance of Plutus v2, passing an external audit, and bringing enhanced transactions to ADEX v3.

During this time, our aim to align principles of decentralisation and web3 with current and future network participants reflects our commitment to community building with regular events and campaigns.

The processes required for TGE are now progressing in the background, and the project is poised to release some new and exciting updates. There are no promises relating to market conditions, yet all being well, alignment between now and mid-Sept will be favourable and present an exciting $AA accumulation phase.

As we continue to develop more DeFi infrastructure to support the project and DeFi ecosystem (to be unveiled), the Astarter AA2 stake pool that went live in November 2023 is performing well in producing regular blocks, with over 1600 to date. Developing a leading DefI infrastructure hub on Cardano is an ongoing process that brings new challenges and hurdles at every milestone on the road to exciting new product releases. Our technical team doesn’t take shortcuts or compromise on security to achieve the project’s long-term aims of a community-driven DeFi infrastructure hub on Cardano. There are no Ethereum EVM Solidity Smart Contract forks, and developers proficient in coding Cardano Smart Contracts are few and far between. We have always maintained that Astarter applications fully interact with the Cardano blockchain with Haskell code written from the ground up, leveraging robust Plutus Smart Contracts, so we embraced the challenges of this new emerging technology. In 2023, Astarter DEX underwent beta testing and auditing of our Plutus V2 Smart contracts and is currently available in a live beta release on the Cardano mainnet.

The release of Astarter DEX V2 on Cardano mainnet enables AMM token swaps in a live environment; the incentivized beta brought actual load and usage to help determine current and future scale and throughput requirements. ADEX has a two-step Matchmaker transaction process. Matchmaker enables ADEX to handle 3–5 requests per block, an improvement over other AMM DEXs on Cardano.

Focusing development on optimized Plutus V2 smart contracts, positions Astarter in readiness for our launchpad, AA token launch, money market, and tech service products, as detailed on our 2024 roadmap.

Community

Our next step for ADEX is to increase transaction throughput and enhance concurrency to reach a potential 25+ transactions per block. We outlined plans for enhanced concurrency in our article titled “Astarter Technical Advancements: Enhancing Concurrency in ADEX” and have since submitted our first Catalyst proposal “Astarter Enhanced Concurrency on Cardano“ seeking community funding for the development.

Introduction

At Astarter, we’re continuously innovating to make ADEX, our decentralized exchange on Cardano, more efficient and user-friendly.

Our primary goal was to boost the concurrency of ADEX, ensuring it could handle a higher volume of transactions per block.

In this article, we’ll delve into the recent technical enhancements we’ve made to improve concurrency in ADEX.

Our Solutions

Two-Step Transaction Flow

We implemented a two-step transaction process where users submit transaction requests to a request pool, which is then packed and managed by the Matchmaker. This process increases concurrency, allowing ADEX to handle 3–5 requests per block.

Transaction Chaining for Higher Concurrency

Our analysis found that Transaction Chaining offers a unique approach to concurrency. Instead of batching and ordering UTXOs off-chain, it orders them virtually in a “first-come-first-served” manner. It enables lower latency and substantially higher throughput.

Small Tests

We conducted small tests on the Cardano chain (Preprod testnet) and successfully sent two transactions in one block. This demonstrates that one block can process multiple packages, improving concurrency.

Additionally, a follow-up test involved submitting 100 transactions consecutively, and they were packed into blocks in sequence. This means there’s no limit to transactions within 100 in the Cardano chain mempool.

It’s important to note that this solution is currently in testing, and the specifics will be unveiled in future updates. The expected deployment of the upgraded DEX, using transaction chaining, is set for early September. However, it’s important to be aware of potential delay risk factors.

The transaction chaining approach brings both risks and rewards. While challenges such as implementation complexity, smart contract vulnerabilities, and scalability must be addressed, the potential benefits, including increased efficiency, improved user experience, and enhanced DeFi capabilities, make this an exciting development for ADEX and the Cardano ecosystem.
