i. What are Cryptoback Gorillas: A Limited Collection of Original Artwork

Our goal was relatively simple, to create and build crypto-art that would initiate and inspire the creators and visionaries of tomorrow. We wanted to offer a better integration of Web3 tools that provide unprecedented access and utility via the most easily attainable entry point into crypto: NFTs. The NFT collections of BAYC, Cryptopunks and Mad Meerkat are among some of our favorite and series of works that have done more than just capture the attention of collectors, investors and creators; our inspiration comes from the foundational principles set by these predecessors to orchestrate and organize a decentralized community through Web3 ownership. What does that mean? We want to accelerate the idea of digital ownership for everyone. The notion that one cannot own nor disown anything once uploaded to the internet is one of the current barriers being tackled by NFTs. Existing on the blockchain (any blockchain), fundamentally challenges the current discourse about ownership in the Web3 digital age. Cryptoback Gorillas are a collection of digital artworks (NFTs) running on the Cronos Chain. Your Cryptoback Gorilla can serve as your digital identity, and open digital doors for you by offering unwavering utility and changing NFTs on Cronos.

Seeing as how NFTs lack any inherent value in the token itself, the actual value attributed to NFTs typically comes from the project’s utility such as being an asset with ownership rights that is also transferable. This leads us back to Cryptoback Gorillas, an NFT project exclusively on the Cronos Chain. Following in the footsteps of the predecessors and pioneers of this space, our 10,000 NFT collection was developed to generate and involve an appropriately sized community of owners.

Our focus from day one has been to curate personalized PFPs that would resonate, reflect and inspire the creators of tomorrow. Distinctively, we wanted to create highly detailed digital identities that featured many of the aspirational and sometimes unattainable fictionalized items sported by a mean mugging collective of Gorillas. While all of our NFTs have been developed to be used as a membership token, we also wanted to use this opportunity to highlight how uniquely designed crypto-art, NFT-art, can introduce and better welcome newcomers to NFTs on the Cronos Chain.

ii. Cryptoback Gorillas & Curating NFT-Art

So what makes us different from the hundreds and thousands of emerging NFT projects in crypto, let alone on the Cronos Chain? The immediate discernible qualities of the Cryptoback Gorillas is that each layer, each and all 170 traits, have been meticulously and painstakingly designed by hand. Each and every layer has been etched, drawn, re-drawn again and again until we had achieved our goal of creating the dopest looking Gorillas ever. Darkclaw.eth has an eye for detail that encompasses and enables the entirety of the NFT collection to be susceptible to upgrades, enhancements, interactive capabilities and integration into real world merchandise. That means that for every trait included in any specific Cryptoback Gorilla NFT has been carefully designed so as to think about the long term; NFTs designed and developed to be upgradable offer much more utility and sustained longevity.

In structuring the collection, we wanted to create traits and rarities that did not mirror another collection by curating fashionable, trendy, eccentric and affluent characteristics aligned with our mission of taking over the Cronos Chain with a legion of members as Cryptobacks. When it comes to NFTs, the first and most readily identifiable form of utility is that in the PFP image itself. The utilization of NFTs as PFPs immediately enables the user to make a myriad of connections within Web3 and beyond.

The Cryptoback Gorillas have been exclusively illustrated and designed as unique NFTs by Darkclaw.eth; all Cryptoback Gorillas are original artworks.

NFTs as PFPs are often the most immediate method to which holders can apply and utilize their NFTs. While doing so aligns oneself to NFT projects and their respective communities, we wanted to emphasize the importance of curating art into this ever-expanding new medium. That’s why we have developed 170 unique, diligently chosen and illustrated traits, Cryptoback Gorillas offer unprecedented quality and utility from the start of your Web3 journey.

iii. Consumer Ownership of Unique & Original NFT-Art

In our continued effort to experiment, develop and release NFTs and a designated Metaverse, we are issuing all of our NFTs as public domain (CC0 license). We have always believed that Web3 projects need to enable collaboration and openness of the project’s brand with the community member(s). Our approach is to provide a continued commitment of limited NFTs with: ownership rights, unfalsifiable provenance, secondary fees and more exclusives including real world and Metaverse integrations.

iv. Cronos-Native NFT collection which blends original Art and enables Commercial Usage for holders

The Cryptoback Gorillas are a collection of digital artworks deployed as NFTs on the Cronos chain (see verified contract here). The entire Cryptoback Gorilla Collection has a total of 10,000 unique NFTs programmatically generated from a total of 170 rarity traits. Each Cryptoback Gorilla NFT provides the holder with ownership and commercial usage rights over their NFT via the project terms and conditions (see Terms & Conditions).

NFT commercial rights are and continue to be widely debated across various NFT communities and there are indeed many ways to provide the community added value on top of verifiable ownership. Early NFTs, such as the CryptoKitties and CryptoPunks restricted commercial use for the images even for token holders. Owners were able to partake and assist in the rise of the legendary communities but were not able to partake in any commercial usage of the images. This particular distinction has led to some resentment within the NFT communities when the founders eventually sold the commercial rights without the involvement of token holders.

The infamous Bored Ape Yacht Club launched in April 2021 and included terms and conditions which allowed for token holders the rights to commercial use of their specific NFT image. This allowed token holders to profit from commercial use of their image once the community infamy began to grow.

The BAYC team did however restrict commercial usage for the BAYC brand itself, allowing for them to pursue further community initiatives (ApeCoin, Otherside, possible future Movies etc.). Another recent trend with NFT projects is to renounce copyright for their original art under the Creative Commons (CC0) public domain. The Mfers are one of the more prominent CC0 NFT projects in which the artwork is free to use by anyone without restriction. This helps and enables the community to promote the art freely and subsequently allows anyone to create any derivatives of the original NFT.

v. Cryptoback Gorillas CC0: Commercial Usage Rights

The Cryptoback Gorillas NFTs are implementing the model similar to that of BAYC’s which allows commercial usages for NFT holders while still holding commercial rights for the CBG brand for future project initiatives. We believe this best positions NFT holders to benefit on commercial usages for their specific images as the projects grows. See below examples of how BAYC token holders used their commercial rights for their own benefit (and to grow the project).

• One owner created a music video with an ape.
• Virtual band KINGSHIP, made up of four Bored Apes, signed with Universal Music Group.
• There’s also a beer launched by an owner.
• And artist Dan Rollman created a comic with his Bored Apes. “Rather than wait for the project creators to add value to my NFT, I set out to build value around it myself,” he said in a Twitter DM.

vi. Cryptoback Gorillas Honorary NFT Collection

One of the steps we have taken to help add long term and build continued value is our Honorary Cryptoback Gorilla NFT collection; a select and limited collection of custom designed and illustrated Cryptoback Gorilla NFTs that are made available to mint to by Cryptoback Gorilla NFT holders (limited in availability). The entire Honorary Cryptoback Gorilla NFT collection will provide commercial usage of the unique design to the holders of an Honorary NFT. By providing as such, NFT holders are furthermore privy and enabled to commercial usage and the ability to modify and adapt said NFT.

vii. Honorary Ebisu Cryptoback Gorilla NFT

The first Honorary Cryptoback Gorilla NFT to be made available to Cryptoback Gorilla NFT holders will be a custom limited edition Ebisu’s Bay NFT. All Cryptoback Gorilla NFT holders will receive 1 Honorary Ebisu Cryptoback Gorilla (up to 100 maximum unique wallets and/or by the partnered giveaway deadline on May 18th 2022).

The fundamental and inherent properties of an NFT collection that incorporates CC0 licensing lends itself to become a completely viable commercialized commodity. Our commitment to developing sustained network efforts through community building and incentives that encourage collaboration with our project to ultimately extend beyond our team will be forever unwavering.
