This recap was prepared by Daniel, the lead dev and co-founder of the Achoo NFT Viral Mint project.

Unfortunately, even with multiple rounds of pre-mint testing, (unit tests + multiple testnet deploys) once we went live on mainnet we discovered a serious oversight in the contract which limited the Achoo Virus Test Kits (AVTK) that the contract can burn to be an 8-bit number (specifically numbers 0–255).

What happened is that the contract function for AVTK minting was defined as follows:

function mintWithAVTK(uint8 tokenID) external { … }

Seems pretty innocent at first sight, right?

And furthermore all of our tests were successful. Even when we burned our own AVTK on mainnet it worked!

The reason was that we were testing this function with lower tokenIDs which never hit the 8-bit limit.

The problem with the function definition is that any tokenID is declared with a unit-8 type, which unfortunately cannot receive integers higher than 255. Consequently, this led to the issue with AVTK burning that many of our AVTK holders experienced in the seconds following our Viral Mint going live!

We are deeply sorry that this wasn’t caught prior to the mint! We thought of multiple things to try and remedy the issue and the community also presented thoughts.

One reason we could not fix the contract and redeploy the contract on mainnet, was that we had already minted dozens of Achoo NFTs. This was not a possible solution at all.

So we took a deep breath, because that is what everyone needs to do when a crisis occurs, especially in the web3 space. We breathed and decided to ask our community members with AVTK 256–999 to mint their Achoo NFTs at the cost of mint, 0.07 ethereum. We would then provide a timely reimbursement. We encouraged those with multiple test kits, expecting multiple free mints, to mint in bulk, to save us time in reimbursing them for their mint.

Through a very well documented ticketing method, we have been accepting from our minters, their transaction hash, the numbers of test kits and the amount paid. We have already successfully reimbrused 10 ETH accounting for over 125 AVTKs that could not be “burned” but in our eyes and documented now as burned.

Lastly:
The good news is that the rest of the contract has been fully tested on the mainnet and all other functionality is working 100% as expected with 0 issues.

We are excited that we are one of the few projects out there accepting multiple cryptocurrencies including ETH/APE/CIG. We even had our first CIG purchase yesterday!

The Achoo virus is a genius creation from the mind of Tel Aviv female artist, designer and ceramic specialist, Tair Almor.

Achoo is an adorable virus living on the blockchain, who has multiple emotions, facial expressions, body types and items. Achoo was created out from the experience of Tair’s own personal life during the pandemic.

How Achoo behaves, looks, and feels, is Tair’s own feelings and actions during the pandemic, expressed in generative designs of the 10,000 collection.

The Achoo Virus Test Kits have already been distributed to the general public, since first being distributed to members of the community for free. Anyone can mint them directly from the website. Only 1,000 AVTK nfts will be processed during this tested period. All test kits can be purchased from secondary markets, such as Opensea and Looksrare.

Achoo Virus Test Kit = Key to the AchooDAO

The Achoo Virus Test Kits are access tokens to the AchooDAO that is planned to open at the conclusion of the 10,000 collection mint. The AchooDAO will open with a total of 1,000 seats, 1 per token. However, each token has specific utility that is applicable to the governance and function of the DAO.

🧪Positive test result (25% of the total mint): DAO Proposal rights+1 vote
🧪Inconclusive test result (5% of the total mint): DAO Proposal rights+2 votes
(Update February 26, 2022: Inconclusive test results will receive a Sneezelist spot to mint during the Super Spreader Event.)

The team has no control of how the market will determine the value of the tokens. However, the creation of the AchooDAO will not be dependant on this. The team will open the DAO and move forward with the number of participants ready to represent the Achoo NFT project.

What will the DAO govern?

The AchooDAO will vote on the direction of the Achoo Universe in order to fulfill the mission of the artist and team, and bring happiness to others through Achoo.

April 11, 2022: Minting via an NFT Community Wide Pandemic Game

Day 3 of the Pandemic 08:20:00 GMT

The official 10,000 collection drop will take place on April 11. The collection will be minted by means of a community wide game called the Achoo Pandemic.

The game will be played over several days, or until every Achoo NFT has been spread to an owner’s wallet. The spread of Achoo will happen in cycles.

Minting Stages of the Pandemic — There will be multiple stages of the Pandemic Spread. Each stage will be a bonus property in the metadata of the NFT.

Super Spreader — first 200 (0–199) Achoo NFTs
Gen 1 — Achoo NFTs 200–999
Gen 2 — Achoo NFTs 1000–2999
Gen 3 — Achoo NFTs 3000–5999
Gen 4 — Achoo NFTs 6000–9999

What is a Sneeze Token?

1 Sneeze Token is essentially a mint pass for 1 Achoo NFT. With every purchase of an Achoo NFT, the same wallet will receive more Sneeze Tokens (ERC-1155) simultaneously to help spread the virus. These will be a bonus token tied to the mint number of the Achoo NFT.

This feature of the Pandemic will only take place during the minting process. No Sneeze Tokens will be distributed after the collection sells out.

200 special Super Spreader Event spots will be distributed to members of the community. Anyone who holds an Achoo Virus Test Kit in their wallet that has an inconclusive result, will automatically be invited to mint in the first 200 NFTs. There are less than 50 of these results, so the remaining spots will be randomly given to community members who hold the following roles: OG / Bluechips / Tier 1 / Tested (positive and negative only). These first people will start the Pandemic and begin the Achoo Super Spreader Event.
(This section has been updated as of February 26, 2022 to reflect the change in who will receive a Sneezelist spot for the Super Spreader Event.)

Additional Sneeze Tokens are required to mint Achoo NFTs and can be considered only like a mint pass at this time. Each Sneeze is used to mint an Achoo, is consequently burned and the total supply of Sneezes is reduced.

The Sneeze token must be burned on the official website in order to successfully mint an Achoo NFT during stages Gen 1–4 of the Pandemic. No one is obligated to sell, trade or burn the Sneeze token. An owner can hodl his Sneeze tokens.

How many Sneezes will a buyer get for minting one Achoo NFT?

• Super Spreader (tokens id# 0–199): 1 Achoo NFT receives 10 Sneezes
• Gen 1 (tokens id# 200–999): 1 Achoo NFT receives 5 Sneezes
• Gen 2 (tokens id#1000–2999): 1 Achoo NFT receives 3 Sneezes
• Gen 3 (tokens id#3000–5999: 1 Achoo NFT receives 2 Sneezes
• Gen 4 (tokens id# 6000–9999): 1 Achoo NFT receives 1 Sneeze

Day 4 of the Pandemic: 24 hours after the Super Spreader Event

PSA will be made to the community: The team will release 500 Sneeze mints on the website for specific members of the community who own the following roles: OG / Blue chips / Tested (positive and negative only) / Tier 1.

The cost of the mint will only be gas. These 500 Sneezes will be released to help the spread of Achoo. They can be burned just the same as all other Sneezes in the market. These will be distributed regardless of the number of Sneezes previously sold, traded or burned.
