Love and Ego — Ali, on Paper

🦋s & 🦚s — Ali, on Paper Inc.®️

Hi, I’m back!

So guys, if you’ve been following our protagonist Ali’s brand — “Ali, on Paper Inc.®️” then you’ve probably heard the buzzwords “Butterflies and Peacocks.” But for those who are new to the scene, it’s not just a catchy phrase; it’s the heartbeat of the brand and its community, representing the power duo of “love and ego.”

In the intricate world of mental well-being, Ali discovered that love and ego are like magic threads, each weaving a unique pattern in the canvas of our minds.

Let’s talk about love first. It’s not just about gushing romance; it’s about loving yourself through the messy bits of life. Ali found that embracing self-love acts like a shield against anxiety, a reminder that, no matter what, you deserve kindness and understanding. It’s the foundation that keeps you steady when life gets a bit crazy.

But love isn’t just an inside job. Acts of kindness, empathy, and just connecting with others create a magic ripple effect in our mental world. Ali realized that in giving love, we receive it manifold, fostering a sense of belonging and support crucial for our mental wellness.

Butterflies and Peacocks — 🦋s & 🦚s — Love and Ego

Contrastingly, ego, often painted in a negative light, can be a potent force when harnessed positively. Pride in oneself, not to be mistaken for arrogance, fuels a healthy sense of self-worth. It’s the armor that shields against the corrosive effects of self-doubt, propelling one forward on the journey to mental strength.

However, like a double-edged sword, ego demands careful wielding. When unchecked, it transforms into a barrier, hindering growth and relationships. Striking a balance between self-pride and humility is the key, unlocking the potential for personal development and harmonious connections.

In a nutshell, love and ego are like dance partners in Ali’s mental landscape. By embracing love for yourself and others, and navigating the twists and turns of a healthy ego, Ali transformed into a mental ninja — someone who can weather storms, build connections, and bask in the glow of mental well-being.

So, I implore you today to join the dance! Celebrate self-love and the power of a well-nurtured ego as we all groove through this transformative journey toward emotional and mental awesomeness.

Thanks for your time, I’d be back soon. Till then, keep creating your story. Cheers!

Remember, a single story can spark a thousand more - Join our community, the 100th Battalion by sharing yours today. Your story can change lives!

To share your story, simply send it via email [alionpaperafrica@gmail.com] or as a DM on Instagram.

[ Go to Instagram ]

Kindly follow @theoliviacpowell and @alionpaper on Instagram (or click the links below) for more updates about the brand and its community.

Powell, on Instagram

Ali, on Instagram

Rename - Reborn - Regenerate — Ali, on Paper

Hello everyone, I’m back!

Today, we’re diving into a tale of self-growth that’s like a blockbuster movie, filled with twists and turns as we uncover the power of names — starring our protagonist, Ali.

In the intricate journey of personal growth, Ali stumbled upon a unique secret weapon — the transformative power of names. Ali didn’t just don different names; he spun them into superhero capes, creating characters that took the lead in his own story. Every name change wasn’t just a switch; it was a game plan, a smart move against his mental struggles.

This adventure began back in mid-secondary school when Ali, battling anxiety, decided to redefine himself. Originally tagged as “Lanky” by his school pals, a nickname he didn’t fancy, Ali decided to flip the script. Not settling for an ordinary nickname, he added a twist that kickstarted his self-improvement journey — “mpLANKY.” The “mp,” jokingly meaning “most popular,” was a playful irony given that he was nowhere near popular. But surprisingly, it worked like magic, turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

This quirky name change went beyond school walls. Everyone, even family, embraced the transformation, calling him by his newfound persona. For Ali, it wasn’t just a name; it became a symbol of confidence, a loud statement of a remade self.

Fast forward to Ali’s university finale, another transformative chapter unfolded in his quest for mental well-being. As the final year loomed, Ali grappled with a swarm of unanswered questions, his mind buzzing with words begging to be set free.

Fueled by an intense desire to share his thoughts with the world, Ali dived into the world of literature by creating a Wattpad account. But anxiety whispered that this move was risky. To shield himself from potential embarrassment, Ali chose an identity — “Olivia C. Powell.” The name, hinting at a white girl, became the perfect cover to hide his true, vibrant black self.

Yet, beyond just changing a name, this was Ali’s clever coping strategy. “Powell” became his safe haven, a place where judgment loosened its grip, allowing his thoughts to flow freely. In the world of words, he found a lifeboat for his sinking mind — a genuine attempt at personal growth.

Looking back, this seemingly small act of adopting a pen name was a turning point in Ali’s mental wellness journey. It was a deliberate move, a subtle yet powerful tool that gave him the freedom to evolve without the weight of societal expectations. Ali’s story teaches us that sometimes, the smallest changes — like a name — can be stepping stones toward deep self-discovery and healing.

Another transformative move happened post-COVID. Ali, adrift and grappling with life’s puzzles, channelled his inner turbulence into a literary masterpiece. This wasn’t just a piece of writing; it was a journey through his childhood struggles, a map marked with the highs and lows of his past and dreams for his future self.

Amidst the chaos, Ali, already a master of reinvention, emerged with a new name — “Ali, on Paper.” More than just a rebirth, it became a brand, a phoenix rising from the ashes of anxiety, ready to conquer the world.

“Ali, on Paper” wasn’t just a catchy phrase; it was Ali’s DIY strategy for mental strength. It represented a conscious effort to manifest greatness, a reminder that battles fought under different names were stepping stones to a more resilient self. Ali’s journey wasn’t just his triumph; it unfolded as a guidebook for others navigating mental struggles.

Embracing authenticity, Ali found strength in vulnerability, turning the page to a new chapter of self-discovery. His story illuminated the profound link between name changes and soul metamorphosis. Each shift, a symbolic shedding of skin, propelled him toward a higher plane of existence.

Through “Ali, on Paper,” he found an oasis for himself but he also unrelentingly champion mental wellness with his community — the 100th battalion. This tale stands as a beacon of hope, urging others to write their narratives of triumph over adversity. Ali’s journey, etched in the ink of resilience, testifies to the transformative power of self-reflection and the courage to map one’s path to greatness.

This isn’t just a name-changing saga; it’s a strategy for self-evolution. Ali didn’t just adopt names; he created lifelines, each representing a chapter in the epic tale of overcoming anxiety and mental struggles. Through his lens, we’re reminded that mental wellness is a journey with unconventional tools like name changes. It invites us to reflect on our identities and how small changes, like a name, can contribute to a more resilient and empowered self.

It’s a story that resonates with all of us, a reminder that we can craft our characters and steer our narratives. So, as you embark on your journey, remember: you’re not just a name; you’re a masterpiece in the making.

Thanks for joining me, and until next time, keep creating your story. Cheers!

Remember, a single story can spark a thousand more — Join our community, the 100th Battalion by sharing yours today. It was a result of a series of pivotal events, and one of the most impactful was the seemingly ‘simple’ act of forgiveness.

Like Ali, we all must grasp the importance of forgiving our former selves. Self-love is paramount, but how can you truly love yourself if you’re still carrying the weight of past mistakes on your shoulders? We often fixate on past events, allowing them to define us and shape our outlook on life.

Forgiving your past and the errors you’ve made is a profound and liberating act. It means shedding resentment, self-blame, and the heavy burden of past wrongdoings. Forgiving yourself is about acknowledging those missteps, learning from them, and moving forward with a heart unburdened.

It doesn’t mean excusing your errors but embracing them, gaining peace, healing, and a fresh start. It’s about saying, “I see you, I’ve learned from you, and now, I’m moving forward with a lighter heart.” Embracing forgiveness leads to personal growth, stronger relationships, and a more optimistic perspective on life.

Now, let’s shift our focus to another facet of forgiveness — forgiving our parents. This act, not allowing their mistakes to define our present or future, is a potent force for personal growth and healing. Recognize that our parents, like all humans, are flawed and capable of errors. By forgiving them, we unshackle ourselves from the weight of their mistakes, anger, and resentments.

This process empowers us to chart our own course, make our own choices, and shape our future in alignment with our values and aspirations. It’s about saying, “I understand you’re human, and I’m forging my path, making my choices, and shaping my future based on my dreams, not your errors.” It’s not about condoning their actions but liberating ourselves from the emotional baggage, nurturing understanding, and ultimately discovering inner peace.

Lastly, let’s explore the art of forgiving others, but with a vital twist — setting boundaries. It’s a delicate equilibrium that fosters healing and healthier relationships. Forgiveness doesn’t mean endorsing hurtful behavior; it’s about releasing resentment for your own well-being. It’s like saying, “I forgive you, but here’s where my line is drawn.”

Setting boundaries is crucial for safeguarding yourself from future harm. You can forgive while firmly asserting your boundaries to prevent a repeat of the same harm. This approach allows you to unload the heavy burden of grudges and construct more respectful connections.

Forgiveness is woven into the very fabric of our lives and relationships, with ourselves and others. It’s a pivotal element of our voyage towards mental wellness. So, I implore you today — Embrace forgiveness, nurture growth, and leave no room for grudges. It is for your betterment.

Thank you for your time, and I’ll be back soon. Cheers!

Remember, a single story can spark a thousand more — Join our community, the 100th Battalion by sharing yours today.

Alone and Anxious — Ali, on Paper

Hi, It’s me again!

I am here today to continue the compelling journey of young Ali, a boy whose life took an unexpected turn. In our prior chapter, we witnessed the shattering of his self-esteem, like a fragile vase dropped from a great height. Yet, from the fragments of brokenness, a mosaic of strength emerged.

Now, as we shift our focus to the next chapter of Ali’s life, we encounter a new adversary — anxiety. Anxiety, my friend, is a relentless beast that lurks in the corners of the mind, ready to pounce when least expected.

Just like a thief in the night, this relentless beast crept into his mind leaving him isolated. Anxiety possesses the cunning ability to make one feel like the only person in a crowded room, drowning in a sea of faces. Ali’s days, once filled with youthful exuberance, now became a battle with solitude.

The fear of uncertainty, like a storm on the horizon, cast a shadow over his every thought. What would the future hold for him? Would he ever be good enough? These questions and many alike, were relentless echoes in his mind, each one amplifying the anxiety that gripped him.

But here’s the tragic part, my friends — Ali didn’t understand what was happening to him. He was adrift in a sea of emotions, unable to navigate the turbulent waters of his own mind. Anxiety, you see, is a silent adversary that often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Ali’s journey was spiralling into darkness, descending into the abyss of depression. He was a shipwrecked soul lost at sea, unable to see the lighthouse on the distant shore. It was in these moments of despair that he stumbled upon a lifeline, a beacon of hope amidst the storm.

You see, Ali had a talent for words, for weaving his emotions into sentences that resonated with others. He began to write, not just for himself but for those who, like him, battled their inner demons. His words became a lifeline, a connection to a world that often felt alien. Through his writings, he started to understand the beast that had plagued him — anxiety.

But that wasn’t all. Ali discovered the power of community, of sharing his story with others who had walked similar paths. Here, he realized that he was not alone in his struggles, that there were others who understood the language of pain and anxiety. This birthed his community — the 100th Battalion, serving as a support system, a lifeline for others.

Let Ali’s journey be a testament to the power of community and the resilience of the human spirit. In the darkest of times, it is our connections, our shared stories, and our unwavering support for one another that can guide us out of the abyss. Anxiety may be a formidable foe, but it is not invincible, not when we stand together.

So, dear friends, let us stand together and dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health. Let’s forge a community, a sanctuary where we can share our fears, our pains, and our triumphs. For it is in unity that we find strength, in shared stories that we discover hope.

Thank you for your time, and remember, you are never alone in your mental struggles. Till next time, Cheers!”

Remember, a single story can spark a thousand more — Join our community, the 100th Battalion by sharing yours today.

Echoes of Trauma — Ali, on Paper

Hi there, I’m back!

This time to share with you a tale that unveils the raw, fragile nature of the human psyche. Imagine a young boy, already burdened with insecurities, a heart beating to the rhythm of self-doubt. His world was a canvas of vulnerability, where a single incident would forever change the course of his life. His name? Let’s call him Ali.

One fateful day, destiny took a turn that no one could have foreseen. Ali, with his boundless enthusiasm, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. An accident, quick as lightning, snatched away three of his precious incisors. But let me tell you, my friends, it was more than just teeth that were lost that day. Ali’s confidence and his self-esteem vanished like a mist in the morning sun.

He who already struggled with charisma was now shrouded in a cloak of doubt. Imagine, if you will, the turmoil within him as he stared into the mirror, seeing a new, unfamiliar face staring back. That once radiant smile that could light up a room was now replaced by a hesitant grin. But mark my words, this is not a story of despair. It’s a tale of resilience, of rising from the ashes like a phoenix.

Ali embarked on a journey, an inner odyssey to reclaim his lost sense of self. He discovered the power of vulnerability, of sharing his pain with others. As he slowly opened up about his struggles, he realized that he was not alone. Others had walked similar paths and had faced adversity head-on and emerged stronger. This realization, my friend, was a game-changer.

But this tale doesn’t end here, oh no. It merely sets the stage for the next chapter — a sequel, if you will.

The echoes of this trauma reached deeper into his psyche, giving birth to a relentless anxiety that would haunt his days and gnaw at his nights. Anxiety, my friend, is a silent storm that can wreak havoc on the strongest of minds. Ali found himself battling a new foe, one that tested his newfound strength.

This story isn’t just about one boy; it’s about all of us. I am writing this to take you on a transformative journey of healing and self-discovery that led me to create a distinctive writing/mental wellness brand, where healing words became a beacon of hope and empowerment.

My life story begins in Ibadan, Nigeria, where I grew up surrounded by my siblings and loving parents. As the second of four kids, I was the “cool kid” but I also carried the weight of being the “black sheep” in the family. I found solace in my own company and spent much of my childhood exploring my thoughts.

Life was pretty ordinary for a ‘90s baby like me, but one thing that gnawed at me was my lack of self-esteem. As I grew older, society’s standards started to weigh on me, and my insecurities only worsened when I had a serious accident at 13, breaking my upper incisors. The mirror became my enemy, and anxiety became a constant companion.

It was indeed a tough journey, as my insecurities had evolved into crippling anxiety. Mind you at that time, I had no explanation for how I felt or anyone to confide in. Yet, amid the turmoil, there was one thing that saved me — writing. I always poured my emotions onto paper, crafting raw and artistic expressions of my struggles.

As I ventured into university life, the anxiety entrenched itself deeper within me. I felt like I was losing my mind, and the worst part was that I had no one to turn to. I masked my pain with vices, trying to find solace in a world that seemed to close in on me.

My final year was especially tough as the weight of the future pressed down on me, and I spiralled into depression. In search of inner peace, I adopted a pseudonym, “Olivia C. Powell,” on Wattpad to share my emotions and stories anonymously and more importantly to shield myself from all potential embarrassment my anxiety had already promised.

As fate would have it, NYSC (National Youth Service Corps) took me to the beautiful city of Calabar, where I found a renewed sense of peace. Writing flourished, and I began sharing my work on Instagram as “Powell.” The pandemic brought challenges, but my virtual world provided comfort and connection. People connected with my words, and I realized that I wasn’t alone in my battles.

Returning home after NYSC was a rude awakening. I fell into a dark place, battling post-NYSC depression, once again it felt like my life was crumbling. Tears became my nightly companions, but writing remained my constant companion, offering solace and a glimpse of hope.

Later that year, I left home for Lagos, where my Instagram posts gained traction. The realization that others resonated with my struggles provided immense comfort and inspired me to delve into mental wellness topics with the hopes that my words eventually help foster a community where mental wellness is given the importance it deserves.

With determination, “Olivia C. Powell” transformed into a powerful brand — Ali, on Paper. The name emerged from a poignant piece I wrote, reflecting on my past while envisioning a brighter future. Through an online community called the 100th Battalion, I aim to be a strong voice for mental wellness, inspiring young Africans facing similar challenges and uplifting every African child with aspirations for greatness.

So, that’s my story — Ali, on Paper. Thank you for being a part of it.

Kindly follow @theoliviacpowell and @alionpaper on Instagram (or click the links below) for more updates about the brand and its community.

Powell, on Instagram

Ali, on Instagram
