Speculation of the recent DigitalNote exploit has been rife in the community and creating significant anxiety between the community and the development team.

After a detailed investigation, the development team identified and analysed the exploit and can now report our findings.

The first exploit, the “Monte Spoof attack”, on DigitalNote saw the minting of 1.8 billion coins (with 925 million sold on Bittrex). This was performed with a specifically crafted PoW block. This was identified as a glitch in TX checking where inputs were not correctly checked against outputs (allowing coins to be minted). The XDN team patched this and forked the chain to fix this issue.

Recently another exploit took place that saw the funds from 2 of the burn addresses removed and sold on Bittrex. We identified the same PoW address as the first exploit linked to this. This second exploit uncovered a significant bug in the code that has been around since 2019. This bug allowed the hacker to take advantage of a transaction signature of *any* transaction into *any* wallet to craft a withdrawal transaction from that wallet.

I will say that again… ANY single transaction from ANY wallet to craft a withdrawal transaction of the same amount… And they obviously started with the big ones (to answer a few of you, yes they were burned correctly, no private key is needed to perform this exploit) This was further proofed when another (somewhat pointless) exploit was carried out on the 9th September… possibly by another person who figured out the issue.

In this case, 11 wallets (all with single large inputs) were drained and send to 8 (non-exchange) addresses This exploit occurred at block 423410, which is why some of you may have gotten stuck on block 423409 when trying to resync (the resync caught it as an invalid block). This last occurrence on 9th September is the reason why we required a chain rollback, as it sucks that our burn coins were stolen, but we absolutely cannot have community coins stolen.

We have since upgraded explorer to the new chain, but took a screenshot of this last exploit for your reference. So this is the main reason we haven't yet divulged any information, every wallet was susceptible to this exploit, and the more people that figured it out and decided to play would have spelled the end of this coin. Once we are all migrated to the new chain, we will continue to test and monitor until we are comfortable, only then will we ask exchanges to reopen deposits and withdrawals.

Wallets exploited on 9/9/2021

Finally a special thanks to some of our community members who jumped in and assisted in this issue. It was really nice to see a brain's trust being stood up so quickly. We would also like to thank the other part of the community that either stayed objective or waited until we could give solid information. This was not a great situation (and was not helped by a few) but we hope to get past this and move forward.

We will be announcing more security enhancements, code changes, and partnerships to secure the future of DigitalNote. This step will require us to totally revise our roadmap to meet our new objectives and targets. These will be relayed to the community once they have been finalised.

I love this quote that Elon Musk is supposed to have tweeted:

“Many people will panic to find a charger before their phone dies. But won’t panic to find a plan before their dream dies”

DigitalNote Q2 — 2021 Update

Since our last update the past few months have seen a great deal of development and activity at DigitalNote. Covid-19 has played its part in delaying our delivery of some products. Hopefully, Q3 will be kinder to us.

Q2 Updates:

· XDN Developers refine Windows and Mac Build environments. This is a significant milestone for the future of development of XDN. The new build environments will make it extremely easy for new talent to help forge the future of DigitalNote’s portfolio of products. This will make XDN one of the most attractive projects for developers to work on. A special thanks to IamLupo and Duckie for running with this. The Mac, Windows and Linux compiles are a lot more streamlined and take less time to compile, improving productivity for our developers.

· Total Revamp of the XDN core software. Update to the latest versions of Bitcoin core and remove depreciated code to ensure that the software is even more robust than it is right now. See version 2.x.x released by the end of July 2021. For the technically inclined, read up more from the developers below the article.

· Wallet Improvements:

o Added Masternodes messages relay

o Changed Masternode winner decision logic

o Fixed random crashes related to secure messaging

o Fixed id generation of secure messaging

o Removed “Socks” proxy handling from source (not required)

o Fixed getrawtransaction json syntax

o Updated Nodes

o Fixed Mac based build issues and dependencies

o Updated win32 build process

o Fixed win32 related compile errors

o Minor Code Updates to support QT 5.15.1

o Dependancy updates to the latest releases

· Updated Media Pack with 2XDN and XDN logos. The latest 2XDN logos can be found on our GitHub.

· Journalist coverage: We have had a promising UK news site, Bitcourier cover an article on DigitalNote.

· New Partnerships: YieldFields.finance and BitBlocks.finance now give you the opportunity to farm XDN rewards. More developments on this front in Q3.

Roadmap Update from Q2:

· Payment Gateway — partnerships.

XDN was successfully integrated into a payment gateway CryptocurrenyCheckout.com that allows merchants to accept XDN as a payment on several popular shopping platforms. This is just the first step in the right direction. The next would be to get merchants to adopt XDN as a payment option in their shops.

· XDN yield Farming to earn 2XDN

This is still in the process of being worked out with our partners. Q3 will see this take shape.

· Advise on path forward If project is feasible raise funds for “Enhanced Messaging”

This is a significant task and we are still working on a prototype to see if it is feasible for us to do. We have an iOS and Android app in test mode that is proving to show promise. The design criteria are to make it an app that is as easy to use as WhatsApp and iMessage. We are still a long way from a commercial application, but could be a game changer for DigitalNote if this goes the way that we are hoping. We will share more information in July.

· Raise funds for legal fees & list on a US exchange Integrate with more applications in ERC-20 ecosystem.

We held a campaign to raise funds to list us on a top 5 exchange and whilst initial funds raised were encouraging, we did not meet the target required. After all donators were polled, we extended the deadline twice. We have refunded one donator and the rest have agreed to use the remaining funds to be used on Marketing DigitalNote at the appropriate time. Thanks to all of you that have contributed.

· Mobile wallets development (on top of web wallet APIs)

With the development of the Messaging App, we have held off on making this a standalone app and will look at the integration of this into the messaging app if appropriate.

Brought forward from Q3:

Some of the work we intended to do in Q3 has been done in Q2

Review the Masternode staking Model and review the Masternode staking algorithm have been worked into the next update that will be released in July and refined to reward Masternode holders more for retaining and investing in Masternodes. With the shift in focus, stakers will be encouraged to rather invest in Masternodes to earn better rewards or take advantage of farming and pools to stake wXDN in Q3. Masternodes will earn 150XDN per block and PoS/PoW will earn 100XDN per block. Using this method, there will be no increase in the emissions of XDN per block.

Q3 UPDATE:

We will see a mandatory update take place on the network to accommodate the numerous changes that have been made in the last 6 months. This was not originally planned and will be added to the roadmap. They may not appear as aesthetical differences to the wallets however there is a significant change in the backend of our technology.

Stay focused, stay strong, stay together!

All the best — The XDN Team

For the technically inclined — Details of the major changes included in update v2.0.0.0 (written by IamLupo)

Updated nearly all cpp and header files to improve compiling performance. Our project had a recursive header inclusion problem. By reducing the total includes inside a header file and splitting all classes in separate cpp and header files we could tackle this problem. Mainly the case is that if you create a header file class, the compiler doesn’t need all the information that was in the cpp file.

// Forward declare classes/structs

class OtherClass;

class MyClass {

OtherClass* a;

}

When class A is a pointer as variable in your class you don’t need to include “otherclass.h” inside the header file. Because the variable is a pointer. And if anything is a pointer, the compiler doesn’t need the “Otherclass” details because it knows the length is an address. This makes inside your cpp where you actually use this variable you need to include “otherclass.h” because at that point it needs the details of Otherclass.

Second case we tackle was the serialization problem that caused problems on all of the classes. This was been done based on macro’s and was a “dirty” way to include functionalities inside a class. This not only required that all classes required to include “serialize.h” but also that the functionality it injected were template functions. That had a significant impact on the compiling process. We totally removed these macros and patched all classes that serialized data.

Third case were the templates. Hooooo boi… yeah adding template functions with content inside a header file. In combination with header inclusions this caused a headache of its own. Compiling template functions is a complicated process for the compiler and takes many resources and processing. I manage to find a way to nicely define the template function structure in the class with the function content inside a separate cpp file. This allowed the process to be done only once and not every time it got included.

Fourth restructuring the compiling process. In the past, we used .pro and makefiles which were spread everywhere and all these scripts had different ways of handling the compiler and parameters. There was no order or austerity. I took all this information and started to classify what was really needed. I build a system that took all this information and made small modules out of it. Once done, this gave me possibility to compile the daemon and GUI wallet app using the same modules. This resulted in allowing complex compile optimalisations on Windows, Linux and Mac like Unity build and precompiled headers that speed up the compiling process by a factor of 2.5.

Fifth because we are working on a core module that needs structure, we also want to avoid cases like:

using namespace std;

using namespace boost;

This not only makes our code bigger. But it also tells on the line exactly where the function coming from. This way there can’t be any obfuscation/confusion if the function was a std or boost lib case. A second effect of this change was that unity build was also functioning better because of this patch.

Bad:

using namespace std;

swap(a, b);

Good:

std::swap(a, b);

Because of all these changes, we also managed to find less structured cases and isolate bugs. This process has uncovered a number of bugs that require a mandatory update. In addition, this cleaner code now has reduced compiler warnings.

If you are keen to get in and help with the development of DigitalNote, please contact the team on our Discord chat.

In last few months, crypto has nailed its place as one of the most promising areas of our time.

While there are tons of new project emerging everyday, it reminds us of the era when the internet had just started. Every new project grabbed attention — whether sound or not. While the crypto ecosystem continues to evolve, OGs like DigitalNote continue to march forward with their plans, believing that the actions speak louder than the words — that “doing” stuff is more important than “creating hype” by prematurely talking about it.

While there is a lot of good work going on right now that we will share more about when the right time comes, we want to take a pause to share our progress and a few major highlights during Q1 2021.

Integration with Binance Smart Chain

XDN, the native currency of DigitalNote blockchain became available on Binance Smart Chain as wXDN (Wrapped XDN). Given the total pool contribution, it amounted to 267% APY for anyone who participated in contributing to the pool within the dates published. We will continue to run pool contribution rewards program that not only benefits our existing community with lucrative rewards but also helps the new investors find liquidity for XDN.

4. Held aTrading Competition on WhiteBit

DigitalNote and Whitebit jointly ran a trading competition on our newly listed XDN/USDT pair. The contest was a huge success in terms of number of participants and the trading volumes.

8. 2XDN Use Case

The team has been working hard on 2XDN use case. We’re currently heading in a direction that will make our community very happy. But like we have said, we don’t want to share it prematurely. So please hold your 2XDN tight.

We have had a few people post interesting questions for the team to answer. The objective was to find out what the community wanted to know about the development and progress we are making with DigitalNote. We have 10 people raise a number of questions so we answer selected ones and cover common questions that were raised.

A user with the tag name ‘DuckNote’ asked a few questions:

Q1 Why is the 2XDN erc20 token liquidity so low on Uniswap? Is there going to be some events to add liquidity in near future? Will there be 2XDN liquidity farming or 2XDN staking on Uniswap?

Answer: 2XDN on Uniswap has become extremely expensive to run a liquidity pool for anyone right now. We have exchanges such as WhiteBit, Coinsbit and Vindax that are more economical to trade on. Once we finalise 2XDN on the BSC chain, we will set up a pool on one of the DEX’s such as Pancakeswap. This will allow our US community to trade more freely.

Q2 What is the use case of 2XDN? What is 2XDN’s utility? What is 2XDN’s roadmap?

Answer: 2XDN was originally created to allow freedom of choice on the ERC-20 network and give the opportunity to our community to take advantage of the numerous DApps and Wallets available on the ERC-20 network such as Metamask, Trust wallet etc. An enhanced use case for 2XDN that is being considered it using it as a governance token. We need to stress that this is under consideration only.

Q3 Is there a separate website or sub-website in the works for 2XDN?

Answer: Check out the Wiki on 2XDN.

Q4 Will there be XDN liquidity farming or XDN staking on Binance smart chain BSC?

Answer: We are investigating options for this.

Q5 Will there be 2XDN token on BSC?

Answer: We are looking at the most practicable way of getting 2XDN onto BSC.

Q6 What is the roadmap for XDN on BSC?

Answer: At the moment we are finalising the testing of wXDN on BSC. That will be accomplished to tick off this quarter.

Fishy posed the following questions.

Q7 As I understand it this Crypto is built on a Community platform — Will DN ever reveal the real names behind this project?

Answer: There is a bag of mixed reasons. While on one hand it helps keep the project truly decentralized by making it independent of named individuals, on the other hand a few members of the team have geographical and other constraints because of which they can’t reveal their true identities.

Q8 As XDN has mining options to ever build on the Blockchain. What mining ways would you suggest are most profitable — CPU or GPU rig set ups?

Answer: You can use a CPU to mine if you were the only miner on the block. With so much hash rate mining XDN right now the only effective way is to use a GPU on a mining pool.

Q9 We have all been directed to your Digitalnote Website to download the latest DN Wallet Program — what confidence and proof can you give our users that its safe and has no vulnerabilities?

Answer: The links that you get the wallets from are directly from our Official Github and have been tested by our development team. In the past we added SHA’s to the files for security which took a lot of effort and most people did not use them anyway.

Q10 What’s the best option to take backup versions of my wallet?

Answer: Alway keep your private keys for each account that you have. Keep a backup of your wallet on a flash or external drive as well. https://wiki.digitalnote.org/wallet-functionality/qt-wallet/backup-and-security/wallet-backup

Q11 Where can I find my Private Keys to my wallet?

Answer: There are two commands that you can use in the wallet to allow you to retrieve your private keys. They are run in the console. We will prepare a Wiki page on how to do this. dumpprivkey <DigitalNote>
dumpwallet <filename>

Q12 Can the wallet be designed with a 2 step authentication process?? If your PC gets compromised and the DN wallet is already unlocked and open — the unsuspected user has full access to send the contents of the wallet to his address! 2 step would be well cool!! ??

Answer: The wallet can be encrypted right now with a password. Yes a 2FA would be a cool feature and make us unique. Will raise it with the devs.

Q13 Will the DN wallet soon have messaging options available?

Answer: This is already working. However we will need to raise funds to develop a better product that can compete with Signal and other solutions. We have set up a DigitalNote Foundation account that will be used for donations to help fund the project. So this is vital that we get the funds from the community on order to do the development to the level that we need. This is the Foundation account for donations in XDN: dLRrHYcx8uSaN9Ln6udbgjMTaAkUDehoBr

Q14 When will the website get updated? it makes the currency look cheap and flawed at the seams!!

Answer: New look and feel on the way.

Andre posted the following question:

Q15 Coinmarketcap lists this sentence: A number of joint ventures are developing for 2XDN. Can you please list which and what are developing for 2XDN?

Answer: We are still investigating joint ventures and will only announce when a partnership is forged.

Q16 Second: What are or will be XDN + 2XDN real-world use cases?

Answer: This is an interesting question. If you look at coins like Doge and Bitcoin, the use case is for payments. DigitalNote is the same. We do not promise to save the world of plagues or holding mass storage on the blockchain. In the real world these will not work properly in a decentralised environment. Blockchain has its place in the world as a means of securely and swiftly exchanging value from one user to another. We do not believe that it will be effective in 95% of the coins that are claiming flashy use cases just to make them popular. XDN has passive income generation using Masternodes, or Staking. It offers encrypted messaging in the QT wallet and is ideal for fast payments using our InstantX technology. 2XDN will start to develop more based on the partnerships that we are still investigating.

Bimbo asks:

Q17 Did xdn apply for The Most Valuable Builder (MVB) Accelerator Program of binance?? If not yet then, The first round of MVB program applications will be open from February 8–28, 2021, UTC+8. All applicant projects must register with the BUIDL Reward Program to participate and meet specific requirements.

Answer: Good question, we are in the process of finalising the application. For those interested in finding our more about this follow this link: https://www.binance.org/en/blog/open-registration-for-buidl-reward-program/

A few questions raised by the other participants were common questions:

Q18 When will DigitalNote be adding new exchanges?

Answer: We are currently looking to get more DEX Exchanges for DigitalNote so that people can trade at low fees. Pancakeswap is one we are already testing right now. At this point it is too difficult to meet the demands of more Central Exchanges right now. With us offering the community a bridge to swap XDN between the BSC network will open up these doors and hopefully give us more opportunities to get onto someone like Binance.

The team would like to thank the community for posting their questions. We will do this AMA on a more regular basis to keep you informed.

A lot has been achieved for the project in these three years, though not without testing challenges for the team and the community.

But we are past all of that. The DigitalNote project is thriving again — through the delivery of continuous enhancements and new features, we’ve gained back the trust of the crypto community. We’re at a point where we are ready to make a huge stride toward uniquely positioning this project in the crypto world. A lot of work has been done over last 4–5 months, and a lot of strategic work is going to be done over the next 2–3 quarters.

It is with this backdrop, we’re excited to announce that in order to continue expanding our footprint across the crypto ecosystem, we’re looking to expand our development team. If you are self-motivated and passionate about blockchain development and working on the latest and greatest in the crypto, you’d love to work in our team. We’re a community project — so these positions are part-time positions — assuming 10–20 hours development work every week.

We are currently looking to hire developers who have hands on experience working in the following areas:

Blockchain Development

C++

NodeJS

Javascript

Web Development

Mobile Native Development (iOS, Android)

Websockets

Linux — basic server management

Basic knowledge of working with daemons

QT Wallets

ERC-20 contracts

Binance Smart Chain contracts

If you are interested in working with one of the best crypto teams, and one of the pioneer projects in the crypto history, please apply by filling the form at the following link and our hiring team will reach out to you.

http://hyperurl.co/DigitalNoteIsHiring

About DigitalNote Project

DigitalNote comprises of a native blockchain XDN and an ERC-20 utility token 2XDN.

XDN: In the world where speed, transaction fees, and security is becoming more important than ever, XDN is faster than the most cryptocurrencies that are out there, has near zero transaction fees, and is 51% attack safe. XDN is one of the very rare blockchains that have dynamic block size adjustment which adjusts the block size at run time based on the number of transactions. As the censor on chatting & messaging platforms is a growing concern, XDN wallet supports Peer to Peer (P2P) messaging via secure channel — so no third party can ever eavesdrop into or tap the conversation between two individuals, or ban them. While users enjoy all of these features that make XDN unique, they can stake XDN right from their wallets or via masternodes and earn a passive income in the range of 3–7% API.

2XDN: While the native XDN blockchain has range of features that none of the other blockchains have, the DigitalNote ERC-20 utility token, 2XDN, provides connectivity to the broader DeFi ecosystem, allowing DigitalNote to tap into the growing opportunities in the DeFi market. With a range of DEXs & DApps supporting cross chain interoperability, the vision for 2XDN is much broader than just limiting to Ethereum ecosystem.

For the detailed history of the project, you may want to look at this article posted by one of the influencers in the crypto world: https://cryptoengineer.medium.com/why-is-digitalnote-xdn-project-being-so-talked-about-84972ef9ebb9

If you want to get engaged with the DigitalNote community, please visit the following pages:

https://digitalnote.org

https://twitter.com/DigitalNoteXDN

https://t.me/XDNDN

https://discord.gg/X9AbE3hY
