It all starts in early November 2021. E-Compass does not yet exist, and neither does the Elrond DEX (for all users). The Battle Of Yields is running before the big Maiar Decentralised Exchange (DEX) launch.
Like a new land, there is a multitude of things to discover, imagine, create and develop.

And the first man working behind what will later be known as e-compass, Gilles, looks, analyzes, seeks information on this future DEX in stress test mode. He had a desire to contribute to the Elrond edifice, and to this ecosystem with an incredible potential.

Gilles is a web developer. Not (yet) specialized in the web3/crypto world. He will buy his first crypto in November 2021, and it will be 0,1egld :-)
Piling up lines of code has been his daily life for years, and delving into this new universe fascinates him…

-The idea-

Once launched on November 20th, the Maiar Exchange allows for $EGLD, $MEX and $USDC swaps. The price of Egld in $ or BTC can be seen on the various CEX platforms, but $MEX is not yet available. You can see its real time value in the top right corner of each DEX page, but a chart with the history would be better, right?

After thinking about the best way to get the necessary info (welcome GraphQL, Elrond API, etc), the 1st charts are coming soon:
MEX/USDC, EGLD/USDC, EGLD/BTC and EGLD/MEX are now available ! They are, for the moment, displayed on a tiny personal website, hosted on a classic shared server.

The insiders share the info, and from the very first days, hundreds of people are coming to see the new $MEX token evolution.
This little page is very useful and many people use it daily.

-The evolution-

Around December 16th, the $RIDE, from the 1st Elrond Launchpad, is launched. The chart is available even before the swaps are launched.
But very quickly at the opening of the swaps, about 5000 users will want to simultaneously watch the evolution of the $Ride price. The site is instantly overloaded.
The same day, the web host kindly asks Gilles to quickly find a solution or they will block the access to this web page.

Once the peak of visitors had passed, the site returned to being fluid. But there is a high demand to follow the evolution of the Elrond ecosytem tokens. However this simple chart can be largely improved, and other features could be added.
Gilles starts creating a dedicated website, to be launched on the 10th January 2022 : Erebor.tools
Now with a dedicated VPS, Erebor can easily accomodate users who want to follow their favorite tokens. There is no longer an overload problem, and the users can enter at any time to find more and more information about the different Elrond ecosystem tokens.

Now, the website can evolve. New features would arrive as time goes by, and more and more users will be able to visit Erebor daily. The 1st new generation tokens (besides $EGLD, $MEX and the 1st Launchpad project $RIDE), will arrive on the 2nd of February (Welcome $AERO, $ISET and $SUPER).

The 1st advertisers are coming to take advantage of Erebor’s visibility. Eldar Finance, then LockedMex.Exchange (with $LKMEX from a DEX-independent liquidity pool) join and they contribute greatly to the development of Erebor.
The $LKMEX joins the list as well and a new $ value is found for this Locked $MEX, based on supply and demand law.

In the 2nd part of February, a new batch of important changes are coming.
Erebor becomes mistakenly associated with the Lord Of The Rings universe, and to avoid any legal problem, a new name must be found. At the same time, more and more users visiting multiple pages on Erebor.
New optimizations are underway for the next version of Erebor

On 25th February, a Tweet is published by Maiar Exchange to promote Erebor. A record number of visitors was reached, with more than 10,000 simultaneous users.

The VPS is in trouble during this peak of traffic, and the next step was obvious, from now on it would be necessary to switch to a dedicated server. The website will have to remain perfectly fluid at each token launch or new feature.

-Find your path-

Many evolutions are being developed behind the scenes, and on March 11th 2022, a new important step is attained:

Erebor is now e-Compass. Like an adventurer equipped with a map and compass, the explorers of the Elrond ecosystem now have their e-Compass 🧭!
The website migration is going perfectly, the API is considerably optimized, which reduces the request time from 8s to 0,16s!
The dedicated server brings new possibilities for the further development of the project.

Gilles keeps piling up lines of code. Every day. For several months. The social networks/marketing/partnerships side is not to be neglected. So having started a few weeks prior, a newcomer is also present, to work on this part.
So Max “officially” joins the team, at the same time the Twitter account @eCompass_io goes live.

Max is self-taught, and has been following the Elrond ecosystem since the old ERD times in 2020. In the past, he was the Social Media Manager for a major motorsport company.
After a painful experience as a volunteer for a crypto project that has now disappeared, he is happy to change ecosystem to contribute to e-Compass and Elrond ecosystem!

From here on, e-Compass will continually evolve, with new tools and functionalities being added on a regular basis. The revenues generated by the advertisements and the partnerships that are formed over time, allow to envisage an even more rapid progression.
