Formed between Cardano, Input-Output Global, Ergo Platform, Nervos, and Topl, the Alliance is focused on making the UTXO model more secure, reliable and faster. Committed to solving instrumental questions about how data is transferred between different blockchain environments, Alliance members aim to grow user adoption and participation, expand applicable use cases and educate and inspire mainstream users.

Fractal — a UTXO-chain operator leveraging a proprietary Tendermint consensus for it’s Proof of Stake blockchain — is joining the alliance to bring additional strategic vision, marketing and Bitcoin expertise necessary to further accelerate the resurgence of interest in bitcoin. With Ordinals, Inscriptions, Runes and the Nervos CKB’s RGB++ protocol enhancements, the technical requirements and social interest for a resurgence of interest in the UTXO are manifest.

“Regardless if it’s Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cardano or Solana, blockchains are built on communities.” Sam Harrison, CEO of Discreet Labs and Head of the Fractal Network said. “As we reach for interoperability, ensure cross-chain asset security, and leverage tokenization on bitcoin — a larger group of UTXO supporters pulling together will accelerate the process of finding ideal solutions and bringing these solutions to market.” Sam continued, “as a good friend once told me: if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”

“The timing couldn’t be better for Fractal joining the alliance.” said Steph Macurdy, Head of Research at Wolfram Blockchain Labs. “We have seen a growth of interest in UTXO models and Sam’s experience in building a functional alliance across potentially competitive organizations will be a valuable addition to the alliance.”

“It is great to see Fractal’s commitment to interoperability, and the growth and adoption of the UTXO model, as it benefits all those who are committed to the UTXO model,” said Rupert Whitehead, Developer Relations lead at fellow alliance co-founder and member, Input Output.

“This bull run will be all about unlocking the liquidity and power of bitcoin and UTXO.” Mr. Harrison finished. “It is a more secure architecture that allows security features like account abstraction and transaction obfuscation by default. As the usability improves, I am sure that a massive amount of value will be unlocked.”

Sam Harrison will be addressing the UTXO Alliance during their Town Hall on Friday, June 7th at 8:00 AM Pacific time.

The Exploring Fragments blog series gives readers brief tutorials on how to create, mint, and trade inscriptions on Fractal’s new platform.

In the first few weeks since Fragments launched, we’ve seen dozens of projects launched, thousands of browser wallet downloads, and tens of thousands of tokens minted. The cherry on top: all fees, which are paid in FRA, will be burned.

Why the excitement? With Fractal Network’s inscription launchpad, users can deploy a BRC20-style token collection for a fraction of the cost of launching on other UTXO networks. Future developments will help these tokens be interoperable in other ecosystems. Plus, as a new platform, it is easy for a new project to make waves.

This is the third article in the Exploring Fragments series, covering how to buy and sell inscriptions from collections and start minting tokens on Fragments.

👉️ New to Fragments? Start with part 1 or part 2 of this article series 👈

Buying/Selling BRC20s on Fragments

It’s easy to list your BRC20s on the Fragments Marketplace. First, click on the Marketplace tab and search for the BRC20 that you’d like to buy/sell. You can scroll down the full list to find your BRC20, or just type the ticker in the search bar.

2. Click on the ticker to see a full breakdown of the token, including the total valuation and 24-hour valuation, floor price, and total number of holders. If you keep scrolling down, you’ll see if any tokens are currently listed for purchase.

3. Click on the “Buy” button to purchase the listed tokens; they will have a price in FRA and its corresponding USD value. Click “Confirm” to confirm your purchase.

4. Meanwhile, if you’d like to sell some BRC20s, just navigate to the desired token’s page in the Marketplace and then click on the “Sell” button on that page. Next, enter the amount of tokens you’d like to list, and the total price for that bundle of tokens, and click “Confirm”.

5. Finally, click the “Approve” button in your browser extension wallet to sign the transaction and list your tokens for sale.

NOTE: FRA transferred to your browser extension wallet will be used for inscriptions of the BRC20 data.

This is the second article in the Exploring Fragments series, covering how to create an inscription collection and start minting tokens on Fragments.

Getting Started

Like other inscription platforms, Fragments distinguishes between minting and deploying (or creating) an inscription collection. “Creating” refers to the process of deploying a new collection, while minting is the act of “minting” tokens in that collection, similar to minting an NFT.

To get started on Fragments, users will first need to download the Fractal Browser Extension wallet, which was tailored for the platform, and fund that wallet with UTXO FRA. This wallet is available on the Google Chrome store, and detailed instructions on how to install it can be found here.

NOTE: FRA transferred to your browser extension wallet will be used for inscriptions of the BRC20 data. Only transfer FRA into the Extension Wallet that you intend to use for the inscription process. Unknowingly transferring an FRA token with a BRC20 inscribed on it will result in losing custody and control of that BRC20.

With the preliminary steps out of the way, let’s dive into the platform.

Creating BRC20-Style Tokens

First, navigate to Fragments and click “Connect Wallet” to connect your browser extension wallet to the platform.

Click the Mint tab on the top navigation bar, and then click the “Create” button to create a new Fragment BRC20 inscription.

3. Enter a 4-letter ticker for your Fragment, the total supply of your collection, and the maximum number of tokens that a user can mint at one time. Then, click “Next”.

4. Please double-check the details of your inscription and the receiver address before agreeing to the risk warning and clicking “Submit.”

5. Finally, you’ll need to sign the transaction in your browser extension wallet. As long as you have enough UTXO FRA in your wallet to cover the network/service fees, you should be able to click “Approve”. Otherwise, it will say “Insufficient Balance” in your wallet.

Once your tokens have been created, you should see a “Successfully Created” pop-up. Click “Done” to continue interacting with your Fragments.

Minting BRC20-Style Tokens

The Fragments Mint tab showcases the full list of mintable Fragments BRC20s in order of creation, as well as the minting progress, number of holders, and total supply. Here’s how easy it is to mint on Fragments:

Click on the “Mint” button next to any of the mintable BRC20s. A pop-up will appear with the BRC20 ticker, where you can enter the amount of tokens you’d like to mint. If there is a mint limit, you can enter how many times you’d like to repeat minting your chosen amount of tokens in the Repeat Mint section. (Note: the Repeat Mint cannot be greater than 8)

2. Click “Next,” and then double-check the information about the tokens you’re about to mint and the network/service fees before agreeing and clicking “Submit.”

3. Finally, click “Approve” in your browser extension wallet to sign the transaction. You should see a Successfully Minted pop-up. Click “Done” to continue interacting with your Fragments.

Pioneering UTXO Token Standards

Inscriptions took the Web3 world by storm at the end of 2023. Fragments are BRC20-compatible inscriptions that can be deployed, minted, and traded on Fractal’s UTXO chain. It’s the ideal place to launch a new inscription project, and it all works seamlessly with the Fractal Extension Wallet.

To help foster a thriving inscription ecosystem, we’ve also announced the Fractal Inscription Accelerator — which provides technical assistance, an inscription toolbox, co-marketing and go-to-market plans, marketplace support, and partnership/integration support to applicants. Click here to apply to the program.

Getting Started With Fragments

To get started with Fragments, you’ll first need to purchase Fractal Network’s native token, FRA, and then transfer it to the Fractal Wallet.

Fractal has two layers — an L1 EVM chain that uses EVM FRA tokens and a UTXO chain (similar to Bitcoin) that uses UTXO FRA tokens.

When using Fragments, you will need UTXO FRA as gas to deploy and transact these BRC20-style tokens.

How to Fund the Browser Extension Wallet with FRA

Note: FRA transferred to your browser extension wallet will be used for inscriptions of the BRC20 data. Only transfer FRA into the Extension Wallet that you intend to use for the inscription process. Unknowingly transferring an FRA token with a BRC20 inscribed on it will result in losing custody and control of that BRC20.

To help prevent early mistakes, we have removed the “Send” functionality from the Extension Wallet. Users will still be able to send FRA stored on the Extension Wallet by importing their keys to the desktop wallet and sending from there. The “Send” functionality will be restored later this week.

There are two main ways to get UTXO FRA — buy it directly from Gate.io, or buy EVM FRA and use Confluence to transfer tokens from the EVM Layer to the UTXO layer. Either way, you will need to download the Browser Extension wallet to use with Fragments, as well as Fractal Wallet for desktop.

Option 1: Buying from Gate.io

Currently, the only exchange that sells UTXO FRA is Gate.io.

You can buy UTXO or EVM FRA on Gate.io, so be careful to select the right token type.

Next, make sure that you send the purchased UTXO FRA to a wallet on the correct network. The wallet address should start with “fra1…”.

This option is by far the simplest for getting UTXO FRA, if you have access to Gate.io. Once you have UTXO FRA on the Desktop Wallet, you can transfer it directly to your Browser Extension wallet. Simply go to the “Send” tab in the Desktop wallet and enter your browser extension wallet address.

Option 2: Convert EVM FRA to UTXO FRA using Confluence

You can also buy EVM FRA and convert it to UTXO FRA using the Confluence Bridge.

You can purchase EVM FRA from Kucoin, SimpleSwap, LetsExchange, BitMart, or LBank using your MetaMask wallet.

Be sure to send the EVM FRA to your “0x…” address on MetaMask and NOT your “fra…” address on the Desktop wallet, or you may lose your tokens. Then, to convert EVM FRA to UTXO FRA, you’ll need to use Confluence Bridge in the Desktop wallet.

Since you’re bridging from an EVM-compatible wallet to a “Native Wallet” (a UTXO wallet starting with “fra1…”), make sure that the arrow icon is facing “Native Wallet.”

Click “Select Wallet” to add the EVM-compatible wallet holding the EVM FRA.

Now choose the token type (FRA), enter the native wallet address where you want to bridge the tokens (ex. Wallet1 on desktop), and enter the amount of EVM FRA you want to bridge.

Once you receive the UTXO FRA, you can send it to your Fractal browser extension wallet and start playing with Fragments.

For more info on how to acquire FRA, check out this helpful blog post.

Building On-Ramps to BRC20s

Make sure to apply to our Fractal Inscription Accelerator program as well; it only takes a few minutes.

With Fragments, anyone can launch and mint a BRC20 collection in minutes at a fraction of the cost of using the Bitcoin network. It’s an all-in-one launchpad for inscriptions, and this is just the beginning of our journey. In the near future, you’ll also be able to bridge Fractal inscriptions to other ecosystems, stake and swap them, and much more. If you’ve been waiting to dip your toes into the BRC20 ecosystem, this is a great place to start.

We’re so excited to see what you create with Fragments!

About Fractal Network

Fractal Network is a multi-layer network committed to applying zero-knowledge cryptography at every level of the Web3 Stack. We are building secured DeFi, asset tokenization, and on-chain identity and reputation services. Through applied zero-knowledge encryption, Fractal is creating a secure on-chain environment for all of Web3.

Join our communities to learn more and contribute:

X/Twitter | Reddit | Telegram | Website | LinkTree

Fractal’s inscription launchpad leverages the unique features of its robust UTXO layer.

After significant internal testing, we are proud to release the beta version of FRAGMENTS, Fractal’s Inscription Launchpad. This is a holistic platform bringing programmability to Inscriptions and BRC20-style tokens.

Fragments allows users to deploy a BRC20 collection on Fractal Network for a fraction of the cost of launching a similar collection on other UTXO networks. It provides an easy way for users to deploy, mint, trade, list and buy inscriptions from various collections. Any user can permissionlessly deploy and claim tickers that have not yet been used on the platform.

But this is just the beginning of the platform. We have an exciting roadmap planned that will include:

Bridging inscriptions on Fractal to other ecosystems

Vaulting or staking BRC20 tokens

Cross-chain swaps for BRC20s

Adding inscription and ordinal compatibility

A Fair-Launch Toolkit.

Fragments is a great place to bootstrap a fair-launch project. Gas prices, paid in FRA on the UTXO network, are extremely low compared to other chains making it easy for creators to deploy a collection and for community members to mint them. Plus, BRC20-style tokens can be permissionlessly minted and traded by anyone.

To kickstart community activity, the Fractal team has announced the Accelerator Program and Creator toolkit. This gives creators and founders access to:

1. Technical Assistance: Our team of experts will provide hands-on support in navigating the complexities of launching your inscription.

2. Inscription Toolbox: Gain access to a comprehensive suite of tools tailored to streamline and optimize the inscription deployment process.

3. Co-Marketing and Go-to-Market Plans: Leverage our marketing prowess and strategic insights to maximize the visibility and adoption of your inscription.

4. Marketplace Support: Seamlessly integrate your inscription into the Fractal marketplace, tapping into a vast network of potential users and collaborators.

5. Partnership and Integration Support: Forge valuable partnerships and integrate with leading inscription wallets such as Unisat and OKX, unlocking new avenues for growth and engagement.

To be an early-supported founder, apply for the accelerator program here.

New Platform, New Wallet

To get started with Fragments, the first step is to download the new Fractal browser extension wallet tailored to work with the inscription platform. Then, simply connect it to Fragments.

This wallet is the principal way to interact with the Fragments platform. The team has been preparing this wallet for months and is proud to release the beta version to the community. It offers a familiar user interface to provide an intuitive way for users to connect to and use Fragments.

The new browser extension wallet and Fragments platform are new products, and as new products, the team would love feedback from the community on how to improve them. The best place to leave your feedback is in Fractal’s Product Feedback group here.

The “Send” functionality will be restored later this week

Leveraging Fractal’s UTXO Layer

Fractal is a multilayer network featuring an L1 EVM chain and an L1 UTXO chain that are atomically linked. The team is planning L2 layers later in the year, but Fractal’s L1 UTXO is uniquely suited to support inscriptions and inscription-like tokens.

Our robust UTXO standard was based on Bitcoin’s UTXO model, but we’ve added ZK capabilities and larger data fields. By incorporating these advantages with the energy, excitement, and innovation of the BRC20 market in our own marketplace, we can harness the potential of inscriptions on Fractal. Those who have an appetite for innovation will bring the expertise and the vision needed to cultivate a thriving inscription ecosystem.

Creating a BRC20-compatible system just made sense. The Fractal team is also excited to work with those building programmability into Ordinals, Inscriptions, and BRC20s. It’s a whole new era for Bitcoin-compatible tokens!

About Fractal Network

Fractal Network is a multi-layer network committed to applying zero-knowledge cryptography at every level of the Web3 stack. Today, Fractal is happy to announce our entry into the inscriptions game Fragments — an inscription launchpad to deploy, mint, buy, and trade inscriptions on Fractal Network.

The Fragments Marketplace and Launchpad

Ordinals — the ancestor of inscriptions — were deployed by issuing a Satoshi with a small bit of data etched in (essentially) the memo field. These etchings on the tiniest fractions — or fragments — of a Bitcoin opened up new ways to think about Bitcoin itself and small data inscriptions on digital currency in general. The promise of these fragments is why we put effort into developing and deploying an inscription marketplace. It’s a quickly developing and growing sector.

Fractal is uniquely suited to support inscriptions. Our robust UTXO standard was based on Bitcoin’s UTXO model, but we’ve added ZK capabilities and larger data fields. By incorporating these advantages with the energy, excitement, and innovation of the BRC20 market on our own marketplace, we can harness the potential of inscriptions on Fractal. Those who have an appetite for innovation will bring the expertise and the vision needed to cultivate a thriving inscription ecosystem.

Announcing the Fractal Inscription Accelerator

But this is new territory. The nature of the inscription ecosystem is new, nascent, untested. In the spirit of supporting our community, we are thrilled to introduce the Fractal Inscription Accelerator. We understand that there are inherent risks associated with launching a new product and building the community needed to thrive, which is why we are committed to sharing this journey with the community. Together, we aim to drive the success of an inscription projects launching on Fragments.

What We Offer

Apply Now

Ready to embark on this transformative journey into BRC20s with us? Submit your application and stay tuned for further details and updates as we embark on this exciting venture together.

Apply here.

About Fractal Network

Fractal Network is a multi-layer network committed to applying zero-knowledge cryptography at every level of the Web3 Stack. All of the reported issues boil down to the same root cause: our full nodes and Graph node implementation. The bugs manifest themselves as:

A slow or unresponsive UI when users stake or unbond tokens

Transactions not showing as received or sent in a timely manner

The Fractal RPC node sometimes being unresponsive

We wanted to take a moment to address these issues directly.

First, The Nature of Existing Issues

First, these issues are DISPLAY issues only caused by a slight incompatibility between Fractal’s EVM RPC and the standard Graph Node we have implemented. No tokens will be lost because of this issue. The actual Fractal blockchain itself is battle-tested and rock solid, and the Fractal team is working to resolve the issue.

Second, The Cause of the Incompatibility

The root cause of intermittent issues on the Fractal’s EVM Layer (Fractal Confluence) is a slight incompatibility between the Fractal EVM RPC and the standard Graph node. The EVM itself was an implementation related to the Frontier project, a Rust-coded project made originally for Polkadot-related communities.

Third, The Solution to the Incompatibility

We are working to restructure our data going forward to ensure that the EVM layer will be compatible with the Graph Node, but in the meantime, we are looking for alternatives to Graph that will be compatible with our EVM instance.

Immediate Fixes

Our DevOps team is also implementing workarounds to improve performance. This includes upgrading the VM size, adding redundancy to our systems, and using more efficient ways to balance traffic. Restructuring the data is our ultimate solution, but these measures should help in the meantime.

Additionally, new Fractal L2 layers will go a long way to resolve these issues for users. These new layers will not be affected by the existing Graph issue and will also extend the reach out of zero-knowledge technology to more of the Web3 ecosystem.

Thanking our Community

We know these intermittent issues are frustrating and sometimes disconcerting for the community. But please rest assured: these are cosmetic issues that are often solved simply by clearing your cache or simply waiting just a few minutes. And they won’t be present on future Fractal layers.

Since our recent reorganization into Fractal, we have redistributed developer resources to help with debugging and product improvement. This reorganization, combined with additional developer resources, should help us resolve existing issues while enabling the Fractal Network to grow. We are excited to use our zk-technology to lead the way in secured decentralized finance.

We started with the ambitious goal of taking zero-knowledge cryptography from being an academic exercise to an applied technology. Since then, we’ve deployed a number of zero-knowledge concepts to Web3 successfully, a feat we are proud of. To that original vision, we’ve added a new goal of extending zk to all levels of the Web3 stack, using the original FRA token on Fractal’s multi-layer architecture.

We hope that you will be part of that endeavor. We are deeply thankful for the support of our community and the patience and understanding you have already displayed. 🙏

About Fractal Network

Fractal Network is a multi-layer network committed to applying zero-knowledge cryptography at every level of the Web3 Stack.

What is Fractal?

Fractal is a multi-layer blockchain that leverages applied zero-knowledge encryption to secure digital assets.

What does that mean?

On-chain transactions have evolved from simply being “multi-chain” to now also being “multi-layer.” Value captured in bitcoin can be used as collateral for a loan on an L2 (where speed and cost are important factors), which can then be used to leverage arbitrage opportunities on a separate L1. This user journey is not unique, nor is it surprising.

However, in order to truly serve that user journey, a holistic approach is more efficient than using the existing hodge-podge of single-point solutions. A holistic approach that simplifies the complex back-end processes and presents a user with a simple, clear interface.

Fortunately, zero-knowledge technology (applied correctly) can simplify the processes. It can make proofs of state easier to establish and communicate and, at the same, inject needed security into the process.

The focus here isn’t on a single technological achievement, but rather, the focus is on the Users, seeing how they navigate value creation and value transfer and ensuring that — wherever they may be, on whatever layer, Fractal users have a solution they recognize.

How is Fractal different?

Our goal is to support the widespread adoption of tokenized assets. We view the multi-layer ecosystem as a natural evolution of the multi-chain ecosystem. And, as we found with multi-chains, there will be layers that fit some asset types better than other layers. While the added complexity of these multiple layers must be addressed, this complexity will also lead to significant growth as adoption penetrates more and more of the non-on-chain universe. As was once said, software is eating the world. And now blockchain is eating software.

Where are we going?

Obviously, there’s a lot of work to be done, and we’re excited to do it with help from the community. As market conditions change and the core team races to respond, we hope to involve community members in the resulting initiatives and projects to increase alignment and our pace of development.

Additionally, we have been having active negotiations with developer teams that provide DEXs, token minters, NFTs, and more. You can expect to see those announcements in the coming weeks before EthDenver.

We have also been exploring solutions to inscriptions and ordinals that would interact with web3 native individuals. We are working on two solutions highlighting these sorts of assets.

We will also be announcing certain partnerships in the coming weeks that point to our plans around the layer-2 space. There are only a handful of obvious leaders in that space — so you have a pretty fair chance of guessing who those partners will be.

Finally, our team here at Fractal has significant experience working with UTXO chains, like Bitcoin. We don’t plan on allowing that experience to lie unused. You can anticipate information regarding those products dropping before the end of the quarter.

What’s next?

Growth

For the next several weeks, you will see the growth engine turned on for Fractal. We will be sponsoring airdrops and tournaments. Follow us on X at @_FractalNetwork. You can also visit www.fra.tech to learn more about our products and services. Be warned, the website is still a construction zone, so there is still some dust on the ground.

Usage

We will be releasing beta versions of our products as soon as they are available, but please remember these will be beta versions. We have a specific channel for product feedback and are open to constructive criticism in there.

Staffing

Fractal will be growing strategically. Individuals who are talented designers and coders are always welcome — but we also want to meet with people who are well-connected (building bridges is hard), and strategically oriented.

You will be able to meet us in the wild at EthDenver.

The Fractal Team will soon expand access to its token, but in the meantime, here’s how to get started.

What is Fractal

Fractal aims to build a multi-layer ecosystem, all powered by FRA. This ecosystem, which will include an L1 UTXO chain, an L1 EVM chain, and L2s, will bring applied zk to the entire Web3 stack so that on-chain assets can be secure at each level.

We often think of on-chain assets as being secure already. Doesn’t being on an immutable ledger make our assets unhackable? However, any veteran of the space will tell you that the transparent nature of blockchain makes everyone a target. Hacks and phishing attacks are common when everyone’s assets and addresses are waving out in the open.

Fractal and its FRA token will change that through Zk. No matter what level or layer a Web3 asset may exist in, Fractal is working to secure it through on-chain encryption.

How to Get FRA

This multi-layer ecosystem is powered by the FRA token, which is already available on a variety of CEXs and DEXs:

SimpleSwap

Kucoin

Bitmart

Gate.io

LBank

Lets Exchange

You’ll be able to buy, swap, or trade for FRA at all of these platforms by following the instructions provided on that specific platform.

NOTE: Make sure to pay attention to which network you are using when purchasing FRA. Almost all these exchanges use EVM FRA, that is, FRA that uses an “0x…” address on Fractal’s EVM L1 layer, called Fractal Confluence. Do not send EVM FRA to an “fra..” address, which is for FRA tokens on Fractal’s UTXO L1 (called Fractal Spring). Only Gate.io offers UTXO FRA.

Conclusion

Zk is essential for the mass adoption of Web3. Only through zk will dApps achieve the functionality of traditional apps, and we’re excited to promote decentralization through Zk at every level of the crypto space.

If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to the Fractal Team on our official Telegram community.
