We hope everyone has been getting back into normal pace after some chaotic past weeks.

Before Terra Classic’s collapse, our team was busy planning side events for GalacticDAO members attending NFT NYC & the Terra dApp Expo in Austin.

Unfortunately, the dApp expo is no longer happening and we therefore had to cancel our party plans.

Fortunately, NFT NYC lives on.

That’s right GalacticDAO members — If you’re going NYC for the conference (or if you just happen to live in the most populous city in America), we’re having a party and you’re invited.

This event has been in the works for some time. Considering everything that happened lately, we had to scale down our original ambitious plans for bigger NYC presence. But we want to celebrate the community and friendship that helped us all make it through these hard weeks — and the party is going ahead! At first, we didn’t feel right hosting/promoting the event with the collapse of Terra still fresh on our mindsl. But as the rubble clears, we appreciate how important it is to celebrate together.. Our path forward is also clearer and we want to invite old friends and new ones to join us as we get ready to build back stronger on Terra 2.0

I think it goes without saying that the last 2 weeks have been rough for everyone. There are no words and no announcements that could magically help us get through it. But if anything, the events have demonstrated the importance of NFT communities within the wider structure of a crypto ecosystem — with many Discord channels transformed into lines of support for members and Terra users alike. We are all dealing with unprecedented events but at least we don’t have to do it alone.

This update aims to:

• Provide a transparent recap of events over the last few days
• Share the thoughts and views of the team as it related to GP
• The next steps for the collection

We appreciate your patience and ask that you read the entire update as there is a lot to unpack.

A recap of recent events

Treasury

On May 12th, as UST/LUNA spiralled out of control, the GP team posted a proposal to the DAO (PROPOSAL 022 — CRISIS MANAGEMENT MODE) using our new on-chain hub. It requested DAO transfer fund management control to the core team, as the situation required quick actions.

Despite our best intentions, it quickly became clear that the congested Terra Network and upcoming chain halt rendered the voting process difficult. The GP core team decided it was time to take action and salvage parts of the DAO treasury.

The DAO funds were stored in a multi-sig with 5 signers. First, we withdrew all the aUST from the Anchor Protocol. All of the aUST was then sent (except 270 for gas and incidentals) to a separate hot wallet. We proceeded to bridge the 403,200 withdrawn aUST via wormhole to a new Metamask ETH wallet. It was then time to swap UST into either USDC or USDT.

Sushi Swap was quoting the best price for UST-USDT. However, it was madness. UST kept bleeding and ETH transactions kept failing. Gas was skyrocketing & we kept needing more ETH. Unfortunately, it reminded us of why we loved Terra so very much.

To reduce slippage, price impact and failed txs — we proceeded to sell UST in batches. Finally, the 403,200 UST was swapped for a total of 136,720.9 which comes to an average price of $0.339 per UST. At today’s prices, we’re happy to have salvaged what was left. At the discretion of ambassadors, our final move was to swap all the USDT for 134,175.828342 USDC.

None of the DAO´s liquid or staked LUNA was touched because at that point, it was pointless. We have shared these steps with you in Discord immediately after they were taken.

On May 16th we made 3 payments from the DAO funds, totalling 3,320. This went to developers Tony, Whilom and Vince for their building contributions of the on-chain DAO voting hub.

On May 20th, all of the USDC and most of the ETH was moved out of the hot wallet to a newly established Gnosis multi-sig consisting of the 5 core team members with a ⅗ requirement. The address of the Multisig is: eth:0xe025fCAffb2fCf1117009B13f7FF3986bc1A0bdC.

Current holdings
At the time of writing, the DAO Gnosis multi-sig holds:

• 130,856.36 USDC
• 0.78417623 ETH
• 0.1233 ETH (in DAO hot wallet for gas)

All the USDC and ETH will remain in the the team multi-sig and used for proposals as they are passed. The assets will be sent to a new, fully DAO controlled multi-sig a council of signees are elected (see more below).

Galactic Punks Validator
Our Validator has been running and supporting Terra throughout all these events. Our dev has upgraded the AWS node instance to help with the network congestion in the days of peak mayhem, and we have since downgraded it again.

In our newest DAO proposal 023 — TERRA 2.0 GALACTIC DAO VALIDATOR — over 85% of members voted in favor of GP supporting the upcoming Terra 2.0. This means our Validator will support and validate that new chain, and the costs for running it will be taken out of the treasury left — as outlined above.

Next Steps: Terra 2.0 and Galactic DAO Decentralization

The most frequently asked question in the past days has been “What other chain will Galactic Punks migrate to from Terra?”

The answer is — none.

This might come as a surprise to some. However, we strongly believe that Galactic Punks are and will always be a part of Terra. It was more than an NFT collection — we created a community believing in Terra’s role in advancing decentralized finance.

The Galactic DAO crowdsourced talent and created a framework for members to contribute to the ecosystem in ways they couldnt on their own. We run one of 130 Terra Validators, with over 1,5 Million LUNA entrusted to us at the ATH. We organized the first NFT Hackathon on Terra, partnered and invested in key Terra Protocols, and worked to educate the space on ways they worked, and contributed to our space. We built the first audited NFT smart contracts on Terra, and first NFT on chain voting.

That was just the beginning. For months, we have been working on even bigger things in the background — initiatives that would have put Terra NFTs on the wider map. Ones that will sadly not materialize in the current situation. We mourn our lost work, but do not regret it.

Our core team has created the collection for Terra. The traits celebrate protocols and builders that we are honored to build alongside of. We will not change them. There will be no retrospective snapshots — we are here to preserve history, not to erase it. This collection had a narrative and a mission, and we will not twist it against its nature. Galactic Punks will continue — on Terra & Terra 2.0.

No matter your personal opinion about Terra 2.0, it is an opportunity to save some of the vibrant ecosystem and developer power that we love. The DAO should follow the migration, in order to have an opportunity to rebuild value alongside other contributors. Below we’ll outline our step by step plans for decentralizing control over the remaining funds and the collections/DAOs migration to Terra 2.0.

1) Elect multi-sig council members

We propose voting in a group of 9 DAO members to make up a multi-sig council whereby every transaction will require 5/9 approvals. These members will be chosen from the trusted Council members and Ambassadors that were democratically voted in by the DAO. It will also include 2 members of the team, to facilitate transition and communication.

This group will be proposed to the DAO and voted in on-chain.

2) Establish multi-sig wallet & send funds

Once the council is agreed upon, we will establish a Gnosis multi-sig and send a test deposit from the core team multisig mentioned above. If all is fine, we will send the remaining USDC and ETH to the new council operated multi-sig.

3) Migrate Galactic Punks collection to Terra 2.0

Once Terra 2.0 is live, we will work to migrate the Galactic Punks collection over from Terra Classic. The precise mechanism hasn’t been determined yet, but it will likely involve a snapshot on Terra + airdrop on Terra 2.0 (No snapshots have been taken yet, and when we take one it will be announced transparently, in advance). We’ll keep the community informed. Punk staking makes no difference to a potential future snapshot — you can keep staked or unstake if you would rather keep them in your wallet.

Additionally, migrating to Terra 2.0 might allow for some NFT contract updates and metadata fixes. We hope that Cosmos NFT ecosystem will keep growing, and upgraded NFT standards will make it more interoperable and free long term. Stay tuned.

TLDR: when we migrate, you will own your GPs on both chains — Terra and Terra 2.0.

4) Finalise the DAO v2 on-chain voting so anyone can post a proposal

Our mission all along has been to fully decentralize the Galactic DAO. Before all the madness, we were so close. We’re proud to say that we were the first truly on-chain NFT DAO and have has 2 proposals go live where DAO members could connect their wallet and vote independent of Discord (The voting supports staked punks, and is weighted by amount of punks you own).

As long as the DAO supports it, we will continue working towards the final form of Galactic DAO v2 on Terra 2.0: a DAO hub where anyone can submit proposals similar to that of Terra, Mirror, and Anchor. This will require more developer work, and once we have the final estimates, we’ll let the community decide if they want to continue funding it. More details regarding timeline will be shared once we have a better picture of all that’s going on with Terra 2.0

5) Open source everything we have built on Terra

If all goes accordingly, our aim is to open source all of the Galactic DAOs contracts for other NFT communities and DAOs to move on-chain. We hope it can help light up the ecosystem we cherished most, and help other teams build their own iterations of staking, minting, and on-chain voting.

Final Words

We were — and are a web 3.0 collective using NFTs as a gating mechanism and the events of the past days do not diminish the amazing things we have accomplished.

As a team, we are overwhelmed by sadness — but also by pride, when we look at what GP has become. We will share another medium post with a summary of the Projects History soon, celebrating our joint work as a community any blockchain could be proud of.

A long-overdue announcement.

Although never explicitly stated, we have always been in favour of Galactic Punk holders having commercial rights & ownership over their GP’s Intellectual Property (IP).

However, in light of recent steps taken by the Yuga Labs (BAYC) team & other IP headlines, we figured it was about time we formally addressed the topic.

As a Galactic Punk owner, you have commercial rights over and own your Galactic Punk’s IP.

Meaning that you can make and sell merch, accessories, and license your Galactic Punk to metaverses, protocols or movies. What you decide to use the IP for is up to you.

But if you decide to sell/transfer your Galactic Punk (why?), then you forfeit that IP ownership to the next holder.

Tl;dr — IP rights are attached to the individual NFT.

Important

The core team retains the rights over the Galactic Punk brand and logo.

Additionally, and similarly to other projects, the core team retains the right to use (without permission) any individual Galactic Punks’ IP in marketing initiatives — such as a promotional video or on event merchandise.

These retainer clauses help us stay flexible and deliver on current & future marketing and roadmap initiatives.

In other scenarios, when a company or protocol wants to use your IP they should request approval / strike a deal with you. It’s up to you to pursue this.

That said,

when we do use a Galactic Punk for a marketing asset or in merch, we’d like to compensate holders (and hopefully set a precedent amongst the NFT community).

To keep it simple, when the GP core team does the following (IRL or URL) the user can expect:

• Using a GP in a marketing graphic — $150 UST
• Using a GP in a marketing video/gif — $200 UST
• Using a GP in event merch — $250 UST
• Using a GP in a general merch drop — $500 UST

👾 Why GP Staking? Background

The Galactic Punks staking platform was built to disperse tokens from the DAO’s investments to GP holders in a fair and transparent way.

Supporting the development of Terra ecosystem and delivering value to Galactic Punk holders are two of the main goals of the DAO. The DAO invests through its treasury, which is controlled through voting by all GP holders. With the passing of proposals 015 & 017, DAO members have voted to invest in two upcoming projects so far: the NFT Marketplaces Luart and Messier.

Both investments are on an 80/20 basis — with 80% of tokens distributed to DAO members via staking and 20% held in the DAO’s treasury. This distribution of Tokens grants members access to early-stage raises usually reserved for VCs, democratizing the investment space, and granting upcoming protocols a wide, authentic distribution of tokens to active users.

When it came to distributing tokens — the snapshot then airdrop method was out of the question. For starters, it wasn’t fair to wallets who held multiple punks since all airdrops would be equal. Additionally, people could take advantage of the system and create multiple wallets. Staking solves this.

🧊 GP Staking & Reward Details

Enter GP Cryogenic Pods — our dApp to facilitate freezing punks (staking) and claiming rewards.

• You can stake multiple GPs at once
• Every staked GP earns the same amount of rewards
• Staked punks will begin to accrue rewards immediately.
• You can ONLY start to claim these rewards after 21 DAYS.
• There is NO staking lock-up period.

We believe everyone is illiquid enough as it is, and should have access to the NFTs at all times. You can unstake your GP whenever you’d like BUT if you don’t meet the minimum 21 day period, your accrued rewards will be passed on to the DAO treasury instead and you’ll have to restart the process.

The staking contract is a proof-of-work for DAOcratizing the VC space on Terra. Maximizing APR is not at the forefront — we are looking to increase distribution of tokens instead, and help new Terra protocols connect to an active user base!

💰 Token disbursements

The DAO will receive 5,000,000 Luart tokens and 2,500,000 Messier tokens, 80% of which are to be distributed to stakers.

For both Luart and Messier investments the plan is as follows:

• The tokens are vested daily by the Protocols that we invested in BUT they will be distributed by punk staking on a weekly basis — to ensure enough has been accumulated, and the transaction costs don´t outweigh the airdrop.
• Tokens will be distributed on Sundays when devs wake up and do something
• The amount of tokens that you receive per week will vary — and depend on how many eligible punks are staked that week

Example using nice, entirely made-up numbers:

• The DAO has 100,000 tokens to distribute this week
• A total of 4000 staked punks are eligible for the rewards
• Each punk receives 25 tokens
• If a user is staking 4 eligible punks, they can claim 100 tokens

The GP staking app is super simple and easy to use.

• Connect your wallet via Terra station or mobile (top right)
• Make sure your on the ‘Stake Punks’ page, not ‘Reward Details’ one
• Your ‘un-frozen’ or not staked Galactic Punks will appear.
• Press Stake Now to freeze your punks

Claiming Rewards

• Under your punk press on ‘more info’
• You will see your claimable rewards on the pop-up
• Press claim and post the transaction on Terra station

Risks & Safety — Audit ✅

As with all new technology there can be risks. That said, the Galactic Punk team has done everything possible to ensure the utmost safety for DAO members.

🌖 Thinking Ahead 🌍

The GP staking app started out as an innovative proof-of-concept, and a solution to disperse tokens to GP holders without the DAO acting like a custodian, which could have regulatory implications.

We believe it has the potential to be a lot more, and a useful tool for not only the Galactic DAO, but all NFT Communities on Terra. Just like in the early days of Terra we saw new protocols airdrop their tokens to reward the LUNA stakers, Galactic Punks staking can be used by upcoming products to connect to a passionate user base, and airdrop tokens to invite Punk holders to use their products..

Mint Recap

🌖 The OGs — 1st Stage

was created to award members of various nft communities among Terra, with each project being gifted whitelist spots and organizing a contest or giveaway on their own terms. Within one hour, over 500 people were able to mint one Gridz each, at a price of 1.5 LUNA.

Many address combinations got snapped up almost instantly, including galactic.punks — in fact not even all team members were able to get them. It was on a first-come-first serve basis. There were NO private “pre-mints”. The 6 gridz displayed as minted upon start of OG mint were tested (3) and official addresses of galactic dao (galactic.punks.dao, galactic.punks.gallery and galactic.dao.gallery)

👾 The Galactic stage — 2nd Stage

Consisted of whitelisted owners of Galactic Punks (Snapshot taken on February 2nd 17:00 UTC). Within one hour, over 4000 people were able to mint up to 2 Gridz each, at a price of 2 LUNA.

During this stage, our on-the-spot image generation was significantly slowing down servers and the speed at which people could mint. We wanted to give every minter an image that represented their address, but 20 minutes into the galactic stage we decided to shut off on-the-fly image generation to quicken the mint process.

This update fix does not affect the NFTs metadata, and everyone’s images will be updated on IPFS to reflect their addresses over the following days.

🌍 The Public Mint — 3rd stage

is still ongoing and will stay active until it mints out. This stage has always been envisioned as a “slow burn” and we want to give people enough time to think of cool combinations that are left as they become more difficult to find!

Analytics & Words 🔢

Shoutout to @Svarnadvipa for the speedy Gridz mint analytics dashboard on Flipside Crypto. They shared a breakdown on the dispersion of selected words, combinations, number of gridz minted, total combinations and owner distribution. If you’re interested click here. Some cool findings at the time of writing:

• Most selected first word: galactic (22.1%), luna (6.68%), terra (5.19%), the (5.01%), stampede (2.69%) & icedout (2.56%)
• The most common second word after selecting galactic as the first word, is tied for ‘punks’, ‘dao’ and ‘glitch’, all at 4.97%.
• The most common second word after selecting luna as the first is ‘bulls’ at 10% and ‘nft’ at 7.73%.

Since the mint has yet to be concluded we can’t offer a complete summary but word on the street is @brian_terra_ will share full breakdown in the days to come.

Colonies Rooms & Words 🤔🤩

On the subject of words — you may have noticed a link between the words chosen as the Gridz address, and the look of your main Colony room! You are not wrong — the first word dictates the view, the second — the room aesthetic, and the third changes the shape of the window, its color and style, and influences the ceiling and the floor as well.

Secondary Market 🛍

Bummed you didn’t get the address of your dreams? Don’t stress, Galactic Gridz will be listed and tradeable on NFT marketplaces. The listing event will happen on the afternoon of February 8th (EST) OR shortly after the mint sells out, whatever comes first.

Why not now? First, because there are plenty of cool combinations still waiting to be found and we’d like to give potential minters the opportunity to find them. Second, as mentioned above, the point of Galactic Gridz x Colonies was to give users and builders Utility — a new way to interact with NFTs and build on a unique world. There’s nothing wrong with flipping NFTs, but we’d like to encourage people to play around with their Gridz Colonies first.

Both RandomEarth & Luart will support Galactic Gridz trading. There will be a 4% royalty on all secondary sales, of which a portion will go towards Galactic Gridz bounties (see below).

👂Important: the base room ‘attached’ to your Galactic Grid is unique to that address (view/window/room aesthetic). If you sell your Gridz address, you’ll lose access to this room design. Think of it like selling a house: you keep the items inside (NFTs/furniture) but lose the actual house and views.

Next Up — Roadmaps & Community Ideas 👂

As a base layer, Galactic Gridz are plots of digital land with unique addresses that double as the owner’s coordinates and NFT identity. And Colonies are the houses built on top of Gridz. But this is just the start.

Now that #LUNAtics have their coordinates and colonies — it’s time to build.

As a team, one of our roadmap goals is to create an interactive map to explore what neighborhood you are in and find your neighbors (if you’re interested in building this please let us know). The Colonies team plans to add additional rooms, floors, and decorations with further customization and themes. However, Galactic Gridz is an open-source & community-driven initiative and we want to get the community involved in the development of our roadmap.

Galactic Gridz x Colonies Bounties 🌍 🏗 💸

DeFi protocols, Games, social platforms, NFT communities — anyone/project can apply for a bounty as long as it builds on top of and/or integrates Galactic Gridz or Colonies. Ideas big & small are welcomed.

We have created a new channel in the GP Discord #gridz-build which we will use to share & receive feedback on ideas. This channel is also for discussing community ideas and finding potential teammates.

Bounties will be granted by the Galactic Gridz & Colonies team on a case-by-case basis, with a goal to decentralize this process in the future. They will be in $UST and can range in size, based on the requirements of the idea/implementation. We will also look to support and connect builders with other teams, engineers, and applicants when possible.

The initial bounty allocation comes from a portion of mint proceeds. We hope to deploy all of this and support builders over the coming months. Royalties will hopefully sustain this.

The time has come. Tomorrow is the Galactic Gridz x Colonies launch and we wanted to share a step-by-step walkthrough on how to mint.

Note: the minting app supports desktop & mobile but for the best experience we suggest using a desktop.

1. Enter Gridz Minting App

Once the mint starts (times below) the minting app will be accessible. You can access it through the Gridz home site by pressing MINT: https://gridz.gg/

OG Stage: 16:00–17:00 UTC | 11 AM -12 PM EST

Galactic Stage: 17:00–18:00 UTC | 12 PM -1 PM EST

Public Stage: 18:00 UTC — Soldout | 1PM EST — Soldout

2. Connect Your Terra Wallet

Both Terra Station wallet extension & mobile will work.

3. Check if You’re Eligible for the Current Stage

Once your Terra wallet is connected, it will tell you’re ‘Eligible for current stage’ OR ‘Not eligible for current stage’.

4. Choose Your 3 Words

Time for the fun part. Choose from the list of 100 whitelisted words and create a 3 worded combination that will be your Galactic Gridz address. If you’re still wondering what this means please refer to the FAQ in this blog.

5. Mint Your Galactic Gridz Address

If the 3 worded combination is available, a bright blue button with ‘MINT word.word.word’ will appear. You can now mint your Galactic Grid. Note: your mint is not confirmed until you sign the transaction (6).

If someone beats you to the combination, it will instead say ‘NOT AVAILABLE’. You will need to pick a different combination —we encourage planning for some back-ups.

6. Sign Transaction

You will be prompted to sign a transaction. If someone signs a transaction before you with the same 3 worded combination, you will lose the Gridz address and an error will appear. You won’t be charged and will need to go back to step 5.

7. Congrats! You Minted a Galactic Grid!

After a successful transaction, you will officially own that Galactic Grid! An image will pop up with your address and you can share on Twitter.

8. Head over to Colonies

Shortly after successfully minting your Galactic Gridz (land), it’s time to start setting up your colony (house).

Go to http://colonies.gg and click on My Homes (available soon) at the top, where you will see all of your minted addresses.

Click on your desired address and you’ll be take to your base room in your new home. This base room is “attached” to the home and can not be sold/traded/etc. If a user sells their Gridz address NFT, they lose access to this home.

You will not see any NFTs in the home when you first enter. You’ll need to manually select the 8 NFTs you want to display.

Once the 8 NFTs are selected, you can drag and drop them in the order you want displayed. Press ‘save’ and sign a small transaction which will save your room.

Each room was designed to be the perfect resolution to be used for Twitter covers.

We aim to create a visual representation of the Galactic Gridz universe where users can search for addresses and see where they live compared to other addresses. If anyone is interested in contributing to this initiative Galactic Punks DMs are open.

We will also share a post on the Galactic Gridz bounties program which will hopefully encourage projects and builders to integrate and built on-top of Gridz.

For Colonies,

Discord roles/private channels created for all their respective Colonies they’ve joined. Remember first word = colony, second word = sector, third word = home.

Ability for users to add additional rooms to their homes. Some will be airdropped (free) and others will require a mint. There will be “themed” rooms for NFT communities & partners — ie. a biker bar for HellCats, aquarium for TerraWhales, dragons den for Levana, galactic quarters for GP, bull pen for LunaBulls, etc.

Ability for users to add more floors to each room, allowing them to show off more than 8 NFTs.

The Galactic Gridz x Colonies mint is happening this week — Saturday, February 5th. We’re excited to share with you the official whitelisted words, mint time and community partners.

As outlined in last week's blog post, there will be 3 mint stages; OG, Galactic & Public. Each stage is on a first-come-first-serve basis and has its own price, start time and set of eligible wallets. You’ll find the details below, but first a quick Q&A 👇

Why be early? Why plan ahead?

Unlike randomly generated collections where the minter has no control over what traits they get, Galactic Gridz is a mint your own experience where you get to choose the traits — in this case, the 3 worded address / NFT pseudo-identity.

Being early gives you a better chance of minting your #1 combination. Planning ahead and having some back ups will help get your #2 and so on in the event that another minter beats you to it.

If I mint 1 in the OG stage can I mint 2 in the Galactic?

Yes. The max mints are per stage and do not limit the amount you can mint in other stages.

Why mint multiple? 2 ways of looking at it — utility & rarity.

As your stake on a customizable plot of land in the Terraverse, Galactic Gridz grant their owners the ability to create a Colony on top of it. If you want multiple colonies you’ll need multiple plots of land. Same goes for future projects that look to build on-top of Gridz.

Galactic Gridz inherits rarity from the unique 3 worded combination. Therefore, lucky (and witty) minters can speculate on future demand for prime real estate.

🌆 Community Words & Finding Your Colony

As you can probably tell, some of the words directly (or indirectly) represent NFT communities and protocols on Terra. Exactly what words and how to rep them is up to each community and its members.

Besides being cool-sounding, these community words offer a chance for holders of Gridz to ‘live’ near each-other. Additionally, they resemble your colony.sector.room with the 1st word = colony, 2nd = sector and 3rd = room.

Don’t worry if this all sounds a bit confusing. Below is an example & in last weeks blog post we covered it in more depth under the FAQ section ‘Does order of words matter?’ and ‘So are there neighbourhoods? How does that work/look?’.

Example 1: galactic.wagmi.uponly

This holder would be in the galactic colony, sector wagmi and have an uponly room.

Example 2: bulls.icedout.airdrop

This holder would be in the bulls colony (our friends the Luna Bulls), sector icedout and have an airdrop room.

Do I need to follow this order?

Simple answer is no. Choose whatever combination you like the most, whether it sounds cool, forms a sentence, or places you in your desired colony & sector.

The idea behind the colony.sector.room format is to let communities create ‘neighbourhoods’ in the Terraverse, while allowing sub-communities to form and flourish. In addition to communities and protocols being able to airdrop and create DAOs around these sub-communities, the Colonies team plans to offer custom room designs for certain colony & sectors.

We’ve received a ton of positive feedback and excitement from the Terra community after announcing Galactic Gridz x Colonies. As with most new projects, there have also been a lot of questions. In this post, we aim to clear up any confusion, answer some frequently asked questions from the community, and share our plans for the Mint date and stages.

Mint Details

Date

The Galactic Gridz mint will take place on Saturday, February 5th. The exact time(s) are yet to be decided but will take into consideration all time zones.

How many

10,000. Each stage has a mint limit but there is no end limit to how many Gridz you can hold.

Stages

The mint will take place in 3 stages; an OG, Galactic, and Public mint. Each stage will have its own price and allow either whitelisted wallets or anyone to mint.

The term ‘whitelist’ gets thrown around a lot. Our motivation for doing the mint in stages is simple; reward the OGs and communities that make the Terra NFT space awesome.

Every stage is on a first come first serve basis. Planning your words (and a backup) ahead of time is encouraged. If someone chooses ‘hodl.luna.ser’ before you, you’ll have to think of a different combination. Be creative, have fun with it, and don’t stress too much because what are the odds another LUNAtic thinks like you… oh, wait! Yeah, better be early!

In all seriousness though, Gridz are utility NFTs and unlock your Colony + everything else that could be built on top of them. You can always change your address at a later point on the open market.

Stage 1: OGs Mint

This stage will consist of members from various Terra NFT communities, such as Galactic Punks, Colonies, Luna Bulls, Derby Stars, Levana, Terrans, Styllar, and Hell Cats. We will also offer some spots for the MonkeDAO and Anons communities in the spirit of cross-chain collaborations.

This doesn’t mean anyone holding x NFT. How these communities choose their members is up to them. Again, the point here is to reward those who contribute to the development of each community and in turn the growth of NFTs on Terra.

The total # of whitelisted wallets for this stage will be around ~600.

Price: 1.5 LUNA

Each wallet can mint 1 Galactic Gridz.

For Galactic Punks — we have decided to award 250 GP holders with OG access. This will be based on XP points gathered from activity in the Galactic Punks discord channels #general-chat, #dao-discussion-chat, and #gridz-discussion. XP has already been turned on for a while now without announcement and will be shut off on a non-advertised date. Our efforts are to identify genuine contributors to the community who don’t seek to gamify the system. DAO members are also at an advantage here since they have more channels to reap the rewards. A full announcement on this will be made via Twitter.

Stage 2: Galactic Mint

As the name suggests, this stage is for anyone holding a Galactic Punk. Here we seek to reward our GP frens and family who don’t spend as much time in the Discord and didn’t make OG status.

Each wallet can mint up to 2 Galactic Gridz.

Stage 3: Public Mint

Anyone is free to mint at this time. Price 3 LUNA. No limit.

FAQ

What is Galactic Gridz?

You can think about Galactic Gridz as one big planet in the Terraverse, with 10,000 plots (or Gridz). Anyone who mints a Grid owns that plot of land and can decide what’s built on-top of it. Each Grid is uniquely distinguishable by its 3 words, which act as x,y,z coordinates, a street address and the owner’s NFT pseudo-identity. This 3 worded combo (formatted word.word.word) is chosen by YOU: the minter. This is one of the first ‘Mint-Your-Own’ experiences out there.

What is Colonies?

Colonies is your customizable public display (gallery) for Terra NFTs built on top of your Grid. Confused? Think of a 2D building, such as a house, and the ability to customize how it looks. You can add decorations, upgrade the number of floors, build a garage or even a hangar for your ships. Most of all, you pick the NFTs you want to display and how.

What is the relationship between Gridz and Colonies?

Colonies is the first project to build on Galactic Gridz and use its 3 words a base layer/metaverse. You can think of Galactic Gridz = land, Colonies = home. The 3 words are your street address. Only owners of Gridz will have access to a Colony, since a Colony needs land to be built on.

Will I have access to a Colony right away?

Shortly after minting a Galactic Grid, you’ll be able to enter the Colonies app and connect your wallet to start displaying NFTs and customizing your Colony.

Is my Gridz or Colony tied to the wallet I mint with?

Gridz are NFTs and are owned by your wallet. If you sell it, you lose it. The decorations, additional rooms, or buildings that make up your Colony are also NFTs. The base room that comes with every Grid is not. When you switch addresses (aka sell your Grid) you will keep the customizable parts of your colony but will need to build it again.

A simple way to think of this is moving houses. If you sell a house and buy a new one, you move to a new plot of land with a new address (Grid). You bring your art, TV, furniture, etc along with you (customizable Colony NFTs). In this world, every group of Colony and Sector will have certain attributes — similar to how houses in certain areas all share common features.

What will my Colony look like at first?

Your Colony will start off with one room in your home. In it you will be able to display your top 8 Terra NFTs. The ability to customize your house, decorate the walls and furniture, add new floors and rooms, will come shortly after. The Colonies team has exciting ideas for the future, and you can learn more about them in their Discord.

Can I mint multiple Gridz? Why would I?

Yes you can mint multiple Gridz, depending on limits per mint stage as outlined above. It is up to you how many you want to mint. If you want multiple Colonies then you’ll need multiple plots of land (Gridz)! The same goes if you want multiple addresses/NFT identities. Gridz will also be supported on Terra NFT marketplaces for trading for those who don’t get their dream address or want to sell.

What do the 3 words mean? Why 3?

The 3 words have 3 purposes. 1) xyz coordinates for future mapping implications. 2) Your Colonies street address is searchable in the Gridz Directory. 3) An identity, like a Twitter handle, that is unique and not 40+ characters long. This identity can be used to show off NFT collections or for future applications and protocols that look to integrate.

What is the Directory?

There will be a Galactic Gridz/Colonies directory where anyone can type in the 3 words ‘word.word.word’ and up will come to the owner’s Colony + chosen NFTs.

What is the minting process like?

Enter the app and connect your Terra station wallet. It will show the current mint stage. If, and once you are eligible, pick from the set of whitelisted words and make your unique combination. If it hasn’t already been chosen you’ll be able to press ‘MINT’ and be prompted to sign a tx. If someone decided to claim that combination just as you were about to do, the tx might fail. Speed is of the essence!

What words can I choose?

There will be between 50–100 words to choose from. Each is around or less than 8 characters. We will share the complete list a few days prior to the $mint day for you to prepare. However, we have a feeling you can already guess what some of them will be.

Can I make suggestions?

If you have any ideas or desired words for your address in the Gridzverse, please make it known in the #gridz-discussion channel on our Discord. You can also catch our attention on Twitter by using the hashtag #GalacticGridz and tagging @galactic_punks & @colonies_nft. Winners of the ‘select.your.words’ contest will be chosen this week.

Does the order of words matter?

Yes & no. Yes because it sounds cool if you get hodl.luna.ser. Yes also because the order of words can mean different things. Remember Gridz will be an open project, with any team free to build on top of. It is likely these projects will want to incorporate different “clusters” of neighborhoods or offer different utilities depending on which words your Gridz has!

Consider for Colonies — word #1 = Colony, #2 = Sector, and #3 = Home. If #1 is Colony, then won’t you want to have the same one as your other community members? (Galactic cough cough) Sectors could be thought of as neighborhoods, or Gridz that are nearby to one another.

For example, Galactic.dao.finance and Galactic.assassin.luna would be parts of the same colony — but Galactic.assassin.luna and Galactic.assassin.ser would be pretty even close neighbors in a sector!

This is where the fun begins. Colonies plan to give unique features to certain words. A stampede.bull.luna will result in a different-looking Colony than a Hell.cat.lover or galactic.cake.eater. Projects and protocols can airdrop decorations for their loyal communities who belong in x Colony or live in x neighborhood. There are a lot of opportunities here, we’re just scratching the surface.

On the other hand, your 3 words are unique no matter what and you will learn to own it. Also, you’re not gonna not sign up for Twitter if you can’t get your dream @. And at least here the secondary market is more accessible.

So are there neighbourhoods? How does that work/look?

At launch, there won’t be a visual representation of where Gridz are located in relation to one another. Building out a visual map is on the roadmap and up for bounty. However, as outlined above, choosing the same words within the community you want to be a part of allows to plan in advance! No matter how future projects choose to integrate, having the same words ensures closer correlation between Gridz.

Our goal isn’t to prescribe how a world/map would look. This is up to the interpretation of projects that build on top of Gridz. And how it can be tied into use cases, such as Colonies is up to their imagination.

For those who like numbers: Say there are 100 whitelisted words. Each word is mapped to a numbered from 0–99. And word 1 = x, 2 = y, 3 = z. If luna: 0, terra: 1, punk: 2, then the distance from luna.luna.luna to luna.terra.punk is the distance between (0,0,0) and (0,1,2), which is sqrt(5). In simpler terms, the more similar your address is to another, the close you are located in the Traverse.

What are the plans after mint?

We aim to make Gridz more of a ‘metaverse’ with greater functionality and interoperability amongst Terra partners. and A % of proceeds from the mint will go towards Galactic Gridz bounties to support projects and protocols that want to integrate with Gridz. Bounties will be awarded based on community forums and votes. One such project is Hermes Protocol which aims to bridge web2 apps, such as Telegram, with web3, and allow for messaging between Gridz owners.

GalacticDAO — Dev Nebula Update

Over the past month, we’ve been hard at work at the GalacticDAO to bring together a lean team of talented and passionate individuals.

Our goal at the Dev Nebula is to craft, build, and maintain the Galactic Hub. This includes everything from the front-end website, at galacticpunks.io, to the smart contract code that powers on-chain proposals.

Here’s an update on what we’ve been up to over the past month & what to look forward to in 2022:

The Team

We started with a team of 1 — just me. In order to build and scale the DAO, we needed to bring on additional talent across every part of the software development stack. We began this initiative with a call-to-arms within our community. Thanks to the passion and talent of our GP holders, we now have 3 additional members on the core development team, responsible for UI/UX (Austin), frontend dev (Kirill), and backend dev.

For those who wonder — this translates into a burn rate of approximately $4,500 UST per week.

Website Redesign

One of our first initiatives is to revamp the existing website with styling in-line with the Galactic Punks theme. In our initial crunch to create a home for the punks, we didn’t iterate too much on the UX/UI of our site. Thanks to Austin and the input from the GDao team, we began re-envisioning the design and workflow of our website.

Meanwhile, Kirill and I have been pushing code to make this a reality. Over the coming weeks, we’ll continue to revamp the existing site to fit these new guidelines. Launch date is TBD 🙂.

Building for On-Chain Proposals

We promised 100% on-chain proposals. They’re coming.

The smart contracts for on-chain voting are done. In a nutshell:

• Each NFT entails 1 vote
• Each proposal will require a “cost” to the DAO treasury to create. This specific cost is TBD but acts as a natural spam filter
• Each proposal can have any number of different options — this enables multiple choice voting
• Each proposal will have an end date, after which the proposal is “closed”. If quorum is reached by the close date, then the most-voted option is passed

To provide a good user experience, we’re building a backend (likely in Node.js + PostgreSQL) to enable easy querying, filtering, and sorting for the Galactic Hub voting interface.

Speaking of which, Austin has designed an initial set of mockups for what the proposal workflow and the treasury monitor will look like. Feedback is welcome & encouraged 👀:

Galactic Gridz are a mint-your-own combination of 3 words that not only represent an NFT pseudonym, but your unique stake on a volume of customizable space within the Terraverse.

Let’s unpack that.

Mint-your-own as in you get to choose the contents (metadata) of your NFT. Yes, that’s right.

Until now, most NFTs on Terra have been randomized collections. Don’t get us wrong, we love randomized collections (Galactic what?). But, this time we wanted to spice things up a bit.

So, what do I get to choose? Glad you asked.

When you enter the Galactic Gridz minting app you will have the ability to create a unique combination of 3 words from a set of whitelisted options. Think ‘hodl.luna.ser’

When you press mint, we bake those 3 words into the Grid’z metadata. No one else will ever have that combination of 3 words — unless you sell.

A good example of this experience in the web2 world is Yat.

Now you’re probably wondering ‘what can I do with those 3 words’? Again, glad you asked.

Just as a domain can represent your unique web2 address, your 3 words represent your unique web3 address and ownership over a customizable plot of land in the Terraverse (the Gridz NFT).

First, Gridz as an NFT pseudonym.

Since those 3 words are both an NFT and unique to the holder, they double as an identity for searching and a mailbox for messaging LUNAtics. They also make great twitter bios.

Second, a customizable space within the Terraverse.

Every Galactic Gridz mint comes with a Colony. If the Gridz is your land, the Colony is what you build and more specifically what you put inside what you build. You can first think of a Colony as a customizable house.

Owners can choose what NFTs they’d like to display, how they are displayed, and what the house looks like. Do your Punks hang in their Galactic quarters? What art do you want to hang on your walls? Perhaps you need a fireplace or a third story for all your illiquid jpegs.

But it doesn’t stop there.

Colonies are more than a house, they are customizable assets on-top of your land. After phase 1 is launched, it’s time for renovations and some landscaping. Maybe you need a den for your Bulls? A hangar for your ships? A garage that doubles as an anon layer for memes?

Whatever you decide, it’s time to show off your collection. Both Colonies and Gridz will support a directory feature where others can find you by searching your three words. Those 3 words are your pseudo identity in the NFT world.

You mentioned messaging?

That’s correct. IRL every property has a mailbox right? So does Gridz.

Your 3 words can double as a Web3 mailbox, and we’re excited to share that Hermes Protocol plans to support messaging between Gridz holders, both for web2 and web3 applications.

More details on this will be shared as they arise. But for now, you can imagine an interface where users can send notes to each other using ‘hodl.luna.ser’ as a handle. Future development could mean that your messages actually appear on a laptop in your Colony or the mailbox in your front yard.

Speaking about development, Gridz are open-source and we encourage projects to implement the messaging or search feature within their parameters.

So much so that we will dedicate a portion of the mint proceeds to fund a Gridz development bounty for projects and teams looking to build on top of or integrate Gridz.

Our next mission after minting is to create a 3D render of the Gridz world. This will take some time, but we hope to make it interactable and fun to use.

Having a 3D version will also give holders a better idea of their location. The 3 words represent xyz coordinates. Perhaps you don’t like your neighbors or rather join a community’s neighborhood. Galactic Gridz will be tradable on secondary marketplaces after they mint.

Besides adding new rooms or buildings, Colonies will aim to offer further customization such as titles and descriptions for your NFTs, and perhaps some social features for liking and commenting.

In the end, we hope Gridz and Colonies can play a role in building an open-source Terraverse. The Genesis Gridz mint is a limited collection and could very well sell out. We don’t think the Terraverse should have limits like this, and therefore have been thinking of ways to reward early adopters while keeping the barriers of entry open.

You could imagine it like the state of New York. The Genesis Gridz are the city of NYC and have the highest rent, return on land investment, entertainment districts and ultimately opportunities. Future Gridz could be the burbs or farmlands, to which some may indeed rather. The words, capabilities and opportunities may be less, but still accessible.

Timeline & Mint

We aim to offer the genesis Galactic Gridz mint sometime in January. Colonies will be accessible immediately after.

In the meantime, we want to hear your opinions and ideas. We’re opening a #gridz channel in the Galactic Punks discord.
