Step 1: Click “ENTER THE GARDEN”.

Step 2: Click “LEARN MORE” on either DEPOSIT or STAKING.

Step 3: Log onto MetaMask or whichever EVM compatible wallet you prefer and choose Rinkeby Test Network.

Step 4: Enter the amount of test USDT or USDC you would like to have sent to you, then click “SEND ME” and then click APPROVE to allow the protocol to access your USDT and USDC on the test network.

Step 5: After the approval succeeds, enter the amount you would like to deposit and the number of days, then click “DEPOSIT”.

Step 6: To fast forward time, just enter the number of days you would like to pass in the highest row and click “EXECUTE”.

Step 7: With the passage of time, notice now that you have claimable tokens as rewards. You can claim these tokens with the “CLAIM” button. You can also choose to withdraw your test stablecoins with the “WITHDRAW” button.

What is Arbitrage?

Arbitrage is the age-old art of buying low and selling high, but doing so simultaneously to eliminate the market risk.

There are a lot of ways to perform arbitrage in traditional financial markets. The advent of crypto has multiplied the types of arbitrages available due to the appearance of new markets, new fungible and near-fungible goods, and more importantly, new market inefficiencies.

Why is Arbitrage Important?

Arbitrage has always been an important component of markets, be they traditional financial ones or ones on the blockchain. Arbitrage causes the convergence of prices among similar goods and markets, and allows the discovery of “correct” prices. Thus, the efforts of the arbitrageurs (people/protocols that perform arbitrage) prevent the ultimate end user from getting ripped off due to laziness and settling for whatever is readily available at hand, something that even sophisticated users are sometimes guilty of.

What are the Risks of Arbitrage?

While arbitrage is defined as the act of securing a riskless profit, the reality is often far from that, both in traditional financial markets and in the crypto markets. In traditional markets, the price fluctuations (also known as market risks) are often substituted by counterparty risk (the risk of our trading partners defaulting). In the crypto markets, the market risks are substituted by smart contract risks i.e. the risks of the smart contracts not doing what they are supposed to do. We mitigate that risk at Garden Protocol by studying the code of the smart contracts that the protocol interacts with.

A Tour through the Garden — how to use Garden Protocol

What is Garden Protocol?

Garden Protocol is a Defi protocol that allows users to make safe and high returns through arbitrage among stable coins, in both bull and bear markets.

How to Use Garden Protocol?

There are two main modules in Garden Protocol: Watering (Staking) and Sowing (Depositing)

1. Sowing (Depositing)

Like good gardeners, users have to sow and plant the seeds through depositing USD-backed stable coins. The protocol will then employ the stable coins in arbitrage strategies among Defi protocols and earn returns for users.

Besides the safe and high yields in stablecoins, users are also rewarded with HEDGED tokens, Garden Protocol’s governance token.

2. Watering (Staking)

Users can provide additional nutrients for the Garden by watering the plants. This comes in the form of staking the HEDGED tokens with the protocol. Stakers share in the fees that the protocol collects.

Protocol Fees

Fees will be charged in order to maintain the protocol’s operations and to grow the protocol.

Management fees: the stablecoins staked will be subject to annual management fees of 2% APR.

Performance fees: returns on the stablecoins staked will be subject to performance fees of 20%.

Uses of HEDGED Token

The HEDGED tokens can be used for the following functions:

Staking: As mentioned, users can stake HEDGED tokens in order to share in the protocol’s fees.

Governance: When the DAO is established, staked users can propose resolutions and vote on them.

NFT rewards: Exclusive NFT rewards are being planned for early users.

It’s on everyone’s mind now — winter is coming in the Defi world, and no one knows how long it is going to last, or even when it is going start.

In any case, one of the most reliable ways to generate reliable returns in the upcoming winter will be through stablecoin arbitrage, just like in long bear markets in traditional finance.

Of course, arbitrage will not get you the greatest returns for the whole phase of the bear market — buying and hodling the best undervalued protocols/tokens/coins will do that, if you can find them and avoid starving during the long winter. Arbitrage will just get you the most reliable returns and simply ensure that you will survive the Defi winter — with annual returns of 40–50%.
