4. After the transaction is successful, you can go to the GateChain browser to view the transaction details.

In order to bring more flexible profit space to the nodes on GateChain, we now support the modification of the maximum commission parameter value of the consensus account. On-chain consensus accounts are now free to modify their maximum commission rate (the default value was 1%). Being a GateChain node allows you to participate in GateChain consensus mining. Freely set your maximum commission value, and obtain stable mining income.

This article will give you a detailed introduction of how to participate in the GateChain consensus, including:

1. Node consensus account installation steps
2. Normal account delegation steps
3. Explanation of the distribution of proceeds for consensus accounts and delegated accounts

There are four types of GateChain accounts: ordinary accounts, consensus accounts, insurance accounts, and EVM accounts. Satisfying the fast and efficient needs of daily payments, the safe and reliable needs of fund storage, and requirements that Etheruem’s native accounts using GateChain’s EVM.

GateChain’s full nodes are key to keeping the network running. A full node has all of GateChain’s features, including building a local testnet, and joining a public testnet or mainnet. It also supports downloading on-chain block data, validating and executing business logic, observing consensus information, and more! By building a full node to participate in the consensus, you can earn delegation commission on top of your mining revenue, as you can opt to accept delegations from other accounts.

GateChain full nodes currently can run in Unix environments (mac OS,ubuntu, and centos).To run a full node, the hardware must meet certain requirements.

• OS: Mac OS 10.14.6 or above, CentOS Linux release 7.7.1908 or above, Ubuntu 18.04.2 or above;
• Storage: Quad-core, 8G RAM, 100Gb HDD or more
• Network: Stable internet connection, bandwidth 1MB/s or above

GateChain Full Node Installation Instructions

For the full procedure, please refer to GateChain Full Node Installation Steps.

1. Firstly you should have a linux or mac device in good performance, then install the latest GateChain binaries according to the Installation Document.
2. Create a normal account. Consensus accounts don’t need too much balance in order to go live. The minimum amount to participate in the consensus is 1GT(10e9 NANOGT). You should also ensure to be able to pay the fees of online transactions (0.01GT), Therefore, the balance of a consensus account should be ≥ 1GT.
3. Create a Consensus Account using a single signature account.
4. On the node, initiate a “consensus account online transaction”; if successful, the single signature normal account becomes a consensus account.
5. This consensus account and its node will participate in GateChain’s consensus mechanism. Make sure your system is running well and network connection is stable.
6. Each time the consensus account is elected in the consensus committee, it will be credited with the PoS mining reward.
7. As a consensus account, you can accept delegations from accounts. Accepting delegations adds weight to the consensus account’s votes and increases the odds to be elected into committee. Besides getting mining rewards, a consensus account can also charge delegator accounts “delegation commission”. The commission rate can be specified when initiating a “consensus account online transaction”.

Delegate GT to a Consensus Account

If you do not want to build a node and POS mine as a consensus account, you can opt to delegate your GT to a consensus account and get a share of mining rewards. Delegation can be performed via CLI/API/Wallet.

There is no minimum delegation amount for the account. If too low, then the yielding rate will be relatively low as well. If too high, yields will fall off and it’s suggested to build more nodes. All account types can delegate to consensus accounts，It is recommended to use a vault account, guaranteeing the safety of the funds.

Delegations initiated by vault accounts work exactly the same way as from normal accounts. Including:

• The delegation takes effect immediately. Rewards are calculated from the very next block.
• There is still a 21 day freeze period required if you wish to redelegate/undelegate your funds.
• Reward withdrawals will be credited to the account immediately.
• When a vault account initiates a clearing transaction, there mustn’t be any ongoing delegations or frozen funds, otherwise the clearing transaction will fail. Delegation does not affect the security of the accounts’ funds, therefore, after the clearing height is reached, four kinds of delegation transactions can still be initiated.

How-To Delegate:

1. Firstly, choose a consensus account to delegate your GT to. You can check the commission, holdings, rate of returns etc of a consensus account and decide which one to choose. You can view data using a blockchain explorer.
2. Initiate a “delegate” transaction to delegate all or a portion of your GT to one or more consensus accounts.
3. If the delegation transaction succeeded, you can get a share of the mining reward following the consensus account’s POS mining.
4. While delegating, a delegator can perform three functions: “fetch income” , “shift delegation” or “undelegate”. Kindly note that when the principal performs one of the functions: “fetch income”, “shift delegation” and “undelegate”, the reward amount is directly credited to their account’s balance. To query the specific reward amount, you need to view the content of “transfer” in the corresponding transaction details.
5. Delegators can initiate a “fetch income” transaction and get credited its share of the mining rewards to their own account. Delegators can initiate a “shift delegation” transaction for a given delegation to move their GT funds to another consensus account. After the delegation shift, the income from the consensus account will be settled immediately. But the delegation can not be shifted again from the consensus account for a period of 21 days.
6. A Delegate can “undelegate” its delegation from a consensus account in part or in whole. Note, the delegation income will be settled immediately at the consensus account after un-delegating. But the earnings and principal will be credited 21 days later.

Rewards distribution structure between consensus and delegator accounts

The total reward of each block is 0.4GT + Transaction fees. (The lower the weight, the higher the rewards), weight =(Currency holdings+delegation GT quantity)* Loyalty coefficient.

Rewards distribution rules of consensus accounts, three cases:

1. Three consensus accounts were selected into the block Committee, according to each account’s weight proportions, If they are between 40% and 27%, distribution will occur according to the actual proportions, If more than 40% or less than 27%, distribution will occur evenly split:40%.33%.27%;
2. Two consensus accounts were selected into the block Committee, according to each account’s weight proportions, if they are between 60% and 40%, distribution will occur according to the actual proportions, If more than 60% or less than 40%, distribution will occur evenly split:60%.40%;
3. One consensus account was selected into the block Committee, and gets 100% rewards.

The consensus account and the delegator account shall be allocated the due reward according to the proportion of money held, example:The consensus account should receive 40% of the rewards, Namely 0.16GT, Consensus account holding 10000GT, Delegation quantity 10000GT, 0.16*50%=0.08，Therefore, the consensus account and the delegator account get 0.08GT respectively(The delegator account shall pay a certain fee to the consensus account according to the fee rate).

Perpetual contract

Perpetual contract is a novel and popular financial derivative in the crypto industry. There is an expiration date for General futures contracts and will be a physical spot delivery, but cryptocurrency perpetual contracts are actually futures contracts without expiration dates using some mechanism to make the price close to the spot price and help buyers and sellers to automatically deliver and exchange positions at regular intervals. It is similar to Contracts for Difference (CFDs) in the traditional financial world. Although there are slight differences in the calculation of the interest rate mechanism, they can still be regarded as the same type of derivatives. It is allowed to magnify positions by using leverage in perpetual contracts trading, but the high leverage of the crypto industry is also accompanied by high risks, please do use it with caution!

Investors who have been exposed to the derivatives market must have another question, how to maintain the price of the underlying asset for perpetual contracts without expiry dates?

The answer is Funding Rate.

What is the funding rate?

The funding rate is made up of two structural indicators — an interest rate and a premium (discount) index.

Interest rate: The contract derivatives on each perpetual contract platform consist of two parts: the base currency (cryptocurrency) and the quote currency (USD, USDT). The interest rate here refers to the borrowing rate function “「(Pricing Rate Index — Base Interest Rate Index)/Funding Rate Interval」” between two currencies, which represents the change between the quote currency and the base currency between the time of receipt and payment of funding charges.

Premium Index: The contract price in the perpetual contracts trading market may have a significant premium or discount to the marked spot price. In this case, the premium index mechanism will increase or decrease the effect of the funding rate in the next period. Usually the premium index is the time-weighted average price of the perpetual contract index within 8 hours (Gate.io, Binance) or 1 hour (FTX).

Funding Rates: If the initial funding rate is calculated using the 8-hour interest rate and premium index, the base interest rate is 0.01%, calculated as follows:

Initial funding rate = Premium Index + Clamp (0.01% — Premium Index, 0.05%~-0.05%)

Usually if the premium index is in the range of 0.05%~-0.05%, the funding rate is usually 0.01% of the base rate.

The final funding rate shall prevail when receiving and paying the funding fee. By applying the final funding rate calculated below to the switching positions between the seller and the buyer, it is possible to settle the funding fees that the buyer and seller have to pay or receive during the time the funds are received and paid.

Final funding charge = Initial funding rate x (next funding charge countdown / funding fee collection interval)

When the proportion of long positions in the market is high, the market price of perpetual contracts will be higher than the spot price, and the funding rate will be positive at this time. The long trader needs to pay the funding rate to the short side according to the funding rate to maintain the contract market price close to the spot market price. When the perpetual contract price is higher than the spot price, the more long positions there are, the higher the funding rate will be, and the more the multi-party will need to pay more fees to the short side.

Similarly, when the proportion of short positions is high, when the market price of perpetual contracts is lower than the spot market price, the funding rate will be negative at this time, and the short investor needs to pay a fee to multiple parties according to the funding rate to maintain the market price.

Through such a mechanism, the perpetual contract price can be effectively maintained to the spot market. In general, the payment of the funding rate will be settled every 8 hours (e.g. Gate.io, Binance) and once every 1 hour (e.g. FTX) according to the platform.

Perpetual contract leverage and forced liquidation

As mentioned at the beginning of this article, the use of high leverage is allowed in cryptocurrency perpetual contracts, in other words, traders can use margin (collateral) such as cryptocurrencies: divided into coin standards (BTC, ETH…. and U standard (USDT, USDC), fiat currency (USD), or mixed margin mode (non-stablecoin currency + stablecoin) to open a position greater than the value of their own collateral, if the price in the market fluctuates sharply, if the margin (collateral) falls below the standard level of maintenance margin (liquidation price line), then the trader’s position will be forced to liquidate by the platform mechanism.

And perpetual contracts many platforms are divided into cross position mode and isolated position mode, in the case of using the cross position mode, even if you use less margin to operate, in the case of high leverage to enlarge the position, once the price falls below the level of the liquidation line, the assets in the entire account position will be fully liquidated, please be sure to confirm that the mode you use is cross position or isolated position before opening a position! ! !

High leverage can certainly allow investors to use less capital to make higher profits, but there is a risk that cannot be ignored for highly leveraged investors, that is, the chain reaction of forced liquidation. For example, suppose that today’s market price falls sharply, there are many high-leverage positions close to the liquidation line in the market, these high-leverage positions are easy to be liquidated due to insufficient margin value, once a more violent black swan event occurs, resulting in a systematic large-scale decline in the market, at this time there are many high-leverage positions will be liquidated one after another, which will cause the overall market price to fall more dramatically, and there is no circuit breaker mechanism in the crypto market, it will collapse like an avalanche. The knock-on effect of falling prices and liquidation of a large number of positions.

In addition, because the collateral provided by some perpetual contract platforms can use stablecoins and non-stablecoin cryptocurrencies, non-stablecoin cryptocurrencies themselves are volatile digital assets, and it may also happen that some traders who use small coins as margin, when the market price itself does not fluctuate much, but because the small coins plummets, the overall collateral position value is lower than the minimum margin level (liquidation price line), and is forced to liquidate.

All in all, moderate leverage is indeed an investment advantage, but leverage is like a double-edged sword, overuse will expose it to great risk, please be sure to clearly understand the risks behind and always confirm the margin position level!

2.2 Hipo.com UI update

Hipo DeFi’s official website ushered in a new UI upgrade in August. We updated the overall brand color and the UX design of the GateBridge page. The adjustment of more saturated colors and rounded corners is to express the characteristics of Hipo products of asset safety, ease of use, and efficiency.

There are still some pages that are still being upgraded and developed, and the fully upgraded Hipo will be more complete and better to use. We can’t wait to provide a better DeFi tool in GateChain!

2.3 HipoSwap

Hipo Swap is a Swap protocol on HipoDefi. Currently, it has three functions: Profession swap, Quick swap, and Gateswap liquidity.

Profession swap and quick swap are exchange tools provided for transactions between different tokens. The difference is that professional swap can display a specific price trend chart, while quick swap omits this process and directly adopts the optimal exchange path. Hiposwap currently supports token exchange on seven Layer 1 networks of Ethereum, GateChain, BSC, Polygon, Heco, Arbitrum, and Avalanche.

Gateswap is an automated liquidity protocol where each Gateswap smart contract (or pair of contracts) manages a liquidity pool consisting of a reserve of two erc-20 tokens.

Anyone can become a Pool’s Liquidity Provider (LP) by adding the equivalent value of each base token in exchange for pool tokens. These tokens track a prorated LP share of the total reserve and can withdraw the underlying asset at any time.

3.1 The GateOracle: $GT GETS A SEAT AT THE LONG HODL TABLE

The GateOracle was implemented by the GT team through ChainLink and is now able to provide real world data in real time, combined with the blockchain data.

Each on-chain price feed belongs to an on-chain address. This is a function that allows the independent GateOracle nodes to exchange data with the feeds in a decentralized, accurate and real time manner.

3.2 Detailed explanation of Zk-rollup solution

As far as everyone knows, there exist many problems with Layer 1 blockchain networks (ETH for example) such as high gas fee, low Tps, network congestion etc. The discussions on solving these problems are constantly ongoing. Rollup and sharding technology have grown to become an important expansion method to improve the throughput and scalability of L1 networks.
