Did it ever occur to you that even though you are watching Youtube Tutorials or any Editorials you don't know actually how to do it? This feeling of being unsure in grasping concepts strengthens more when you are in the Technical realm as everything you learn you have to apply. Or shall I say we learn to apply …?

The prevalence of project-based learning (PBL) has increased significantly, contributing to serious discussions about its advent.

What Project-Based learning does is create engagement, build a community, improving one’s connection and I cannot express enough how significant that is for the growth of your career. A significant relation was found between the PBL method and collaborative learning, disciplinary subject learning, iterative learning, and authentic learning, which, in turn, produced student engagement. The results show that the PBL technique improves student engagement by enabling knowledge and information sharing and discussion. Thus, the PBL approach is highly recommended for educational use by students and should be encouraged in universities.

So next time whenever you are learning something new, don't focus on the duration of learning the concepts or gaining knowledge rather focus more on applying and making it visually appealing!

The Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) is a student-run organization of the Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. HPAIR organizes Harvard University’s largest annual student conferences in the Asia-Pacific region. It aims at a gathered growing pool of international students from top universities, renowned academics, business professionals, and political leaders to engage in our rigorous conference events. The conferences bring students together to interact with a distinguished group of speakers and explore issues ranging from international security to natural resources.

When I heard about this opportunity I could not wait but engage myself with such a prestigious community.

The Application procedure was similar to any other application but what I felt unique was the question were designed to understand how intuitive and innovative your brain is and where you see yourself or what drives you. It was quite fun and enlightening answering them.

After a few days, I received an email about the acceptance of my application.

Then I received an interview call from my interviewer.

Experience with my interview:

The interview was scheduled for a duration of 10 minutes. First I had to introduce myself. Then sir asked me about my projects and how I contribute to the community. Then several other intuition-based questions were asked. Finally, I was asked what drives me to take part in HPAIR.

My Journey to become a Women Techmakers Ambassador….

At first, while applying for WTM, it did not really strike me the gravity of this position. Then I surfed the internet and took a glance at some of the ambassadors. They were all so inspiring and had done so much in their respective domains. Of course, it made me feel my nerves!. But I still went for it. I applied thinking that I will not get accepted and it is okay!

In the application form, you need to...

You need to list down all your technical and community-based work. You need to upload a fully updated resume so make sure it's new and the format is correct. (You can use novoresume for making your resume)

Next, you have to update your GitHub account. So make sure there are sufficient and relevant projects there.

Apart from that you also need to upload your activities on various social platforms including Linkedin, Twitter, and Medium. (If you don't have sufficient engagement in a particular platform there is no need to mention it while applying as this creates a negative impression)

Then again you have to mention if you had done any social work or if you are connected to any social organization. I was a part of (Secretary in women’s wing —) @ International Human Rights Commission.

There will be a couple of other engagements that you have to assure about your involvement or not on various technical platforms and skills (the application form will itself guide you as you proceed).

Now comes the part where you have to write a few essays showing your interest and what drives you. This part is extremely crucial as this carries quite a good weight. Now, remember to express yourself to the best of your capabilities and with absolute honesty. Let them dive deep into you and know what interests you. Make sure you review your essay several times before the final submission.

In the end, there are some optional questions but make sure to fill that in too. Also, you can mention your referee(completely optional). In my case, I would like to express my gratitude to — Aanisha Bhattacharyya (Incoming ML Research Associate @ Adobe | Former Research Intern at Adobe | Adobe WIT’21 Scholar) for allowing me to mention her as my referee.

Lastly, review and submit. After which you will be receiving a confirmation mail.

The selection depends completely on how they perceive your profile and how much of value you could add to the WTM team.

When I got selected, I could not believe my eyes as I was so sure something was wrong. Then again as our Google WTM lead — Caitlin Morrissey says “If you are here…You are here for a reason”.

The Harvard WECode (Women Engineers Code) Conference is organized by undergraduate women at Harvard University and is an initiative of Harvard Women in CS Link is — (www.harvardwics.com). WECode hosts the largest student-run women in tech conference in the world.

I got the opportunity to be a part of and attend their annual conference for undergraduate students in the spring of 2022.

Harvard WECode (Women Engineers Code) is a global community of technical leaders aiming to foster a network among engineers and promote greater representation in the technology industry by those who have been traditionally marginalized. WECode culminates in the world’s largest student-run women in tech conferences, held for undergraduate students.

My experience?

First of all, getting selected was really a surreal experience. So this is how it went…..

I came across this opportunity through Linkedin. From there I went to their official website and registered myself. From there I was taken to the application page. Now, this is very crucial …. While applying you need to share about your work in tech till date apart from your personal information.

While sharing your work make sure your GitHub profile is updated and has some relevant projects. The next step involves writing essays. There are 5 essay-type questions that you need to answer. Now, remember to express yourself to the best of your capabilities and with absolute honesty. Let them dive deep into you and know what interests you. Make sure you review your essay several times before the final submission.

In the end, you need to update your resume so make sure you have a fairly updated resume with the correct format.

The results will be out within a week's duration after the application to WECode closes.

What excites me to date is when I see this screenshot…

That's where Blogs come in. It is a short and simple way of expressing an idea or achievement or something that one wants to share. It's a real transformation from ordinary articles. Writing Blogs not only unleashes a great impact on the community of readers having similar interests but also on the writers of the Blogs.

The Benefits of writing blogs are enormous…

Starting from the business and marketing perspective- Blogs help in drawing attention to a website thereby engaging a huge audience and maximizing traffic.

Creating one’s identity -Online: People like to share when they are good at something. They want to let the world know thereby creating their identity. Many people who are centered around household chores, self-employed or independent freelancers prefer writing blogs and sharing their expertise and be identified amongst many.

There are several other benefits of writing blogs such as building connections, sharing some technical expertise, promoting a product, improving writing, etcetera.

Blogs have revolutionized into a community where both the readers as well as the writers of the Blogs equally benefit.

Students should be more acquainted with blogging about their activities or something new they had learned that day. As this will help them to keep track of their growth as well as strengthen the concepts they had learned while writing the Blogs!

Keep writing!

Blogs are surely certain hubs that appear to be partial teachers to us and we can for sure rely on them.

I myself have gained and keep gaining so much from this community and my attempt through @medium is not only to put something new out there every day but also extend the reach of the little but significant things that often fail to meet the eyes.
