The initial excitement of acceptance quickly changed into a seemingly endless series of interviews(2 up to 7 sometimes) comprised by panel discussions, one-on-one meetings, and even surprise skills assessments, all spread out over a period of weeks(even months)while he or she’s eager for a position.

While companies may view this multi-interview process as a thorough evaluation, for candidates, it can feel more like a frustrating and exhausting experience close to a nightmare most probably. Exhaustion isn’t just a metaphor; it’s a real consequence of the current interview landscape.

Juggling multiple interviews with their existing job search, personal life, and potentially their current job, can be incredibly draining. This fatigue can negatively impact a candidate’s performance during the interviews themselves. Let me give you one or two examples

Martine, a graphic designer, spent three weeks attending five separate interviews for a design role. The lack of structure across interviews (one panel, one one-on-one, and a surprise design challenge) left her feeling unprepared and ultimately confused about the company’s expectations. This confusion can lead to missed opportunities, as candidates struggle to effectively showcase their skills and experience in a constantly shifting interview format. Maria competed against 500 hundred applicants for a cosmetics company to find herself to the last 2 candidates only to hear that none will take the position since in between the company decided to close the position before even someone occupy it.

Photo by Andre Hunter on Unsplash

The Toll of the Multi-Interview Marathon

From a candidate’s perspective, the current multi-interview system presents several challenges:

Exhaustion and Uncertain Time Commitment

Unclear Expectations

Limited Feedback

The varied nature of interview formats can leave candidates feeling uncertain about what interviewers are looking for. Like this it’s difficult to tailor responses effectively and showcase their skills in the best light.

Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of the multi-interview process is the often radio silence from companies after interviews. Candidates like John, a software engineer, receive only a generic rejection email, leaving them with no insights into their performance or areas for improvement. This lack of feedback hinders their ability to learn and grow as applicants, not to mention others that didn’t even received an answer at all.

Building a Better Bridge: Alternatives for a Smoother Journey

Fortunately, there are alternative approaches companies can adopt to improve the candidate experience while still conducting a thorough evaluation. The screening process can begin right from the job posting, crafting clear, concise, and more targeted job descriptions than the ones you already do(!), you can attract qualified candidates who are a good fit for the role from the outset. This reduces the need for extensive pre-screening measures later in the process. Job postings should detail the required skills and experience, as well as the (actual) company culture and expectations.

pre-screening interviews or skills assessments can identify qualified candidates quickly and efficiently. This reduces the number of unnecessary interview rounds for both sides. Prescreening allows companies to assess fundamental skills and experience alignments, ensuring only the most relevant candidates progress further.

Transparency is essential throughout the interview process.

Companies should provide candidates with precise timelines regarding interview rounds, the format of each stage (e.g., panel, one-on-one, presentation), and the expected outcomes. This transparency allows candidates to prepare effectively and manage their expectations.

Photo by Jon Tyson on Unsplash

Offering constructive feedback, even to unsuccessful candidates, demonstrates respect for their time and effort. This feedback can be invaluable, allowing candidates to identify areas for improvement and strengthen their application process for future opportunities. John, the software engineer from the previous example, would have greatly benefited from specific feedback on his interview performance. Knowing his strengths and weaknesses would empower him to refine his approach for future applications.

A Balanced Approach: Fostering a Positive Experience for All

The goal isn’t to eliminate multi-step interviews altogether. A well-structured, multi-stage process can offer valuable insights into a candidate’s skills, cultural fit, and personality. However, streamlining the process and prioritizing transparency can significantly improve the experience for both candidates and employers.

Companies that value candidate’s well-being and foster a positive interview experience are more likely to attract and retain top talent in the long run. This shift towards a more efficient and candidate-friendly approach benefits everyone involved, building a bridge between talented individuals and the potential for a fulfilling career.

It used to be the shiny new toy of the working world, a revolutionary tool connecting colleagues across the globe. But these days, for many of us, our inboxes feel more like an overflowing inferno, constantly demanding attention with a never-ending stream of digital flames.

The problem isn’t the technology itself, but how we (ab)use it. Here’s why email might be silently sabotaging everyone’s productivity, and what you can do about it.

Photo by Daniele Levis Pelusi on Unsplash

The Time-Sucking Monster

A study by the McKinsey Global Institute found that knowledge workers spend an average of 28% of their workweek reading and responding to emails. That’s a full day every week dedicated to sifting through messages, many of which may not even be relevant to your work! Imagine what you could accomplish if you reclaimed those precious hours.

Multitasking Chaos

The constant ping of new email notifications disrupts your focus and throws you into a state of constant context switching. Research from the University of California, Irvine shows that this mental ping-pong can actually lower your IQ by as much as 10 points! It’s like trying to write a novel while simultaneously juggling chainsaws — not exactly a recipe for top-notch work.

Miscommunication Misery

Email lacks the richness of face-to-face or even phone conversations. Without nonverbal cues like tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language, it’s easy for emails to be misinterpreted. A playful jab can come across as a harsh criticism, and a simple question can be misconstrued as demanding. This can lead to frustration, resentment, and wasted time spent clarifying intentions.

Photo by Tim Gouw on Unsplash

Re: Final, Re: Final-Final, Re: Final-Final vol.2…

Remember that time you spent searching through a 20-email thread to find the “final” version of a document attached somewhere along the way? Email is notorious for creating version control chaos. Attachments get lost, edits get overwritten, and figuring out the latest iteration feels like navigating a bureaucratic nightmare.

Photo by Wei Ding on Unsplash

Information Overload

Our inboxes are constantly bombarded with a barrage of information, from urgent requests to casual greetings. Trying to sift through the noise and prioritize what’s important can be overwhelming. Important messages get buried in the avalanche, and deadlines get missed.

So is there something that we can do?

The good news is there’s hope! A growing number of companies are embracing alternative communication and task management tools. Project management platforms are a solution and can help track tasks and keep everyone on the same page. Instant messaging platforms allow for quick questions and real-time communication, while video conferencing tools facilitate clear and efficient collaboration.
By adopting these tools and encouraging a more mindful approach to email use, we can reclaim our inboxes and our focus, leading to a more productive and less stressful work experience. Of course since we’re humans we can always use the old-fashioned routes that can still work perfectly like a charm.

ps: dedicated to my good friend M.Theodoridis

Navigating the Risky Greek Waters: Think Twice Before You Invest to Your Doom

The Aegean breeze whispers promises, full of ancient ruins tales of past empires, a vibrant culture with a rich tradition, amazing food, stunning landscapes, It’s no wonder why Greece hold’s great appeal to investors with visions of lucrative ventures. But hold on to your investor’s optimism for a second, because after digging a bit deeper, a different picture emerges — one painted with the harsh colors of bureaucracy, red tape, under the table money and a business environment that can feel downright toxic. A reality that can turn those investment dreams into a financial nightmares

The Labyrinth of Bureaucracy: Where Hopes Die

When it comes to Greece, I can’t help but proceed with caution. The country’s business environment, unfortunately, is far from ideal, Imagine this: you’ve identified a fantastic business opportunity in Greece, your plan is solid, and excitement is in the air. You dive deep into the process, only to find yourself lost in a bureaucratic maze seemingly designed by Daedalus himself. Permits take months, if not years(!), to obtain. Regulations change faster than the speed of light -which are often times applied retroactively(!)- leaving you scrambling to adjust. Simple tasks morph into epic sagas, testing your patience and depleting your resources. This isn’t an exaggeration. A report by PwC, lights the historical disconnect between Greece’s GDP and investment levels. They point out that, the system isn’t geared up to handle significant inflows of investment, making the process frustrating and slow. According to the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business report, Greece ranks 72nd out of 190 countries which to be honest it sounds better than it actually feels like.

Photo by Luemen Rutkowski on Unsplash

Beyond Bureaucracy: A Sea of Uncertainty

Investing is all about calculated risks, but Greece throws a whole bag of uncertainty into the mix. The political landscape, for instance, can be erratic, Shifts in government can lead to sudden changes in policies, law and tax changes(again), leaving investors scrambling to adapt, if not outright scrambling for the exits. Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index ranks Greece 60th out of 180 countries, indicating a significant perception of corruption in the public sector.

This lack of stability isn’t just a hunch. A 2023 article by eKathimerini, a major Greek newspaper, highlights the “investment gap” as a major hurdle for the Greek economy. They point out the historical dependence on domestic capital and the difficulty in attracting foreign investment due to concerns about long-term stability.

Taxing Times: When Profitability Takes a Vacation

Let’s not forget the not-so-sunny side of Greek taxation. While the corporate tax rate itself might seem attractive on paper, a myriad of additional levies and property taxes can quickly erode any potential profit margin. This, coupled with the inefficiencies of the tax system, adds another layer of complexity and potential frustration for investors. The country has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the European Union and often you find yourself having a second partner on the profits…the Greek government. Additionally, the frequent changes in tax legislation can create uncertainty and make long-term planning a nightmare.

The Human Factor in a Toxic Business Environment

A 2023 article by Properstar, a real estate investment platform, discusses the “risks to foreign investors” in Greece. They mention the structural weaknesses of the economy, particularly outside of the thriving tourism and shipping sectors, and the challenges faced by foreign businesses in integrating into the existing system.

Numbers tell part of the story, all the situations above lead people in Greece to be more cautious on risk taking, which can make it harder for new businesses to arise and grow, hurting the entrepreneurial spirit.

Justice, no Justice

Additionally, navigating the legal system can be a daunting task, with long delays and a perceived lack of transparency. The country’s judicial system is also a cause of concern. According to the European Commission’s Justice Scoreboard, Greece ranks last(!) in the efficiency of its justice system. This can make resolving business disputes a lengthy and frustrating process. Cases can take up to at least 7 years to be resolved, in some situations more than a decade…or two…

Greece: A Land of Potential, But Proceed with Open Eyes

Greece remains a land of undeniable beauty and rich history. It possesses undeniable potential. So the question is, “investing in Greece is a guaranteed loss”? There are, of course, opportunities to be found in every market, the same applies here. The Greek government has been making efforts to improve the business environment, such as implementing digital governance and reducing bureaucracy but even that sometimes is fictional and it’s just the same mess transferred online. Areas like corruption and judicial efficiency is something that should definitely be transformed.

For investors, it’s a market that requires a healthy dose of caution and a clear understanding of the challenges that lie ahead, their success stories are often the result of sheer perseverance and a deep understanding of the local landscape which is covered from all the above, so the challenges and risks associated with Greece’s (toxic) business environment are significant and should not be taken lightly.
Before you pack your bags and head for the Athenian sunshine, do your due diligence. Research the specific sector you’re interested in, consult with experienced advisors, and be prepared for a certainly bumpy ride.

But what if I told you there’s a secret weapon waiting to be unleashed in your workplace? A force so powerful it can boost employee morale, skyrocket productivity, and, yes, even line your pockets with more green. That weapon? Happiness.

Now, before you roll your eyes and mutter something about rainbows and unicorns, hear me out. Because happiness at work isn’t some touchy-feely pipe dream; it’s a cold, hard fact backed by mountains of research. Here’s the truth bomb: happy employees are profitable employees.

From Science to Paychecks: The Link Between Happiness and Profits

A study published in the Journal of Happiness Studies found that a 10% increase in employee happiness led to a 12% increase in productivity. Think about it. A dozen more productive employees churning out top-notch work? That’s a recipe for serious success.

But the benefits don’t stop there. A study by the University of Warwick’s Business School revealed that happy employees sell 37% more than their less joyful counterparts. Imagine your sales team brimming with enthusiasm, genuinely connecting with customers, and closing deals left and right. Talk about a win-win!

Here’s another reason to crack open the champagne: happy employees are less likely to leave. A study by Kenexa Research Institute found that companies with high employee satisfaction experience a 50% lower turnover rate. Think about the time and money you’ll save by not constantly having to recruit and train new staff. It all adds up to a healthier bottom line.

So, how do we unlock this happiness goldmine? The first step is to identify and dismantle the happiness killers lurking in your workplace. For example Micromanaging employees is like trying to control a butterfly with a net. It stifles creativity, autonomy, and trust, leaving employees feeling like cogs in a machine rather than valued contributors. Instead, empower your team to take ownership of their work. Give them clear goals and the freedom to achieve them in their own way. Trust me, they’ll surprise you with their ingenuity.

Building a Culture of Joy: Simple Steps for Big Results

Now, let’s get down to brass tacks. Here are some actionable steps you can take to cultivate a workplace that fosters happiness:

Recognition and Appreciation: A simple “thank you” can go a long way. Publicly acknowledge employee achievements and celebrate milestones. Make them feel valued and appreciated.

Work-Life Balance: We all have lives outside of work. Respect your employees’ time and offer flexible work arrangements when possible. A healthy work-life balance leads to a happier, more engaged workforce.

Positive Work Environment: Create a space that feels welcoming and inspiring. Encourage collaboration, open communication, and a little bit of fun. A little laughter goes a long way in boosting morale.

Invest in Growth: Help your employees develop their skills and knowledge. Offer training opportunities and mentorship programs. Show them you’re invested in their long-term success, and they’ll be more invested in yours.

The Happiness Revolution: It Starts With You

Remember, creating a happy workplace isn’t a one-time event; its an ongoing process. It starts with you, the leader, setting the tone. Be approachable, listen to your employees’ concerns, and be open to feedback.

By prioritizing happiness at work, you’re not just creating a more pleasant environment for your team, you’re making a smart business decision. A happy workforce is a productive workforce, a loyal workforce, and ultimately, a profitable workforce. So, ditch the frown and embrace the joy revolution. Your employees, your bottom line, and your sanity will thank you for it.

Heads are bent over tasks, fingers flying across keyboards, but there’s an energy that hums beneath the surface. It’s the energy of solidarity, a collective spirit of support and collaboration that fuels a thriving workplace. Now, imagine the opposite. Every keystroke, every step monitored. The air hangs heavy with silence, broken only by an occasional nervous cough. This, my friends, is the suffocating reality of micromanagement, a culture killer that crushes innovation and progress.

For years, the workplace mantra has been efficiency, a relentless pursuit of getting things done “the right way.” This often translates into a top-down approach, where managers, hover, dictate, and control every detail, leaving little room for individual initiative or creativity. But here’s the shocker: micromanagement backfires.

Remember the iconic lunch breaks from classic movies, bustling with colleagues sharing stories and forging bonds beyond their tasks? That wasn’t just Hollywood; solidarity in the workplace used to be a necessity. In past decades, companies were smaller, work often involved manual labor, and success relied heavily on collaboration. Teams relied on each other, fostering a strong sense of “we’re in this together.” ..think now of your colleagues as fellow adventurers on a thrilling expedition. You each bring unique skills and perspectives, forming a team.

Why Solidarity is the Secret Weapon, Not Micromanagement:

But imagine if every step you take is pre-planned, every decision pre-approved. The joy of exploration, the thrill of discovery — gone. This is the deadening effect of micromanagement. Solidarity, on the other hand, empowers.

So, what exactly is solidarity in the workplace? It’s not just about getting along with your colleagues, though that’s certainly a good start. It’s about mutual respect, trust, and a shared sense of purpose. It’s knowing you can count on your colleagues to have your back, to offer support when you’re struggling, and to celebrate everyone’s successes. It’s about feeling valued for your unique skills and perspectives, and knowing that your voice matters. This kind of environment doesn’t just happen overnight.

Leaders and managers have a crucial role to play in fostering solidarity in the workplace.

It fosters trust, encourages open communication, and fosters a sense of shared responsibility. When colleagues feel supported and valued, they’re more likely to take ownership of their work, go above and beyond, and offer help readily. This creates a synergy, where the whole truly becomes greater than the sum of its parts.

Unlocking Progress Through Collaboration

Solidarity in the workplace isn’t just about feeling good; it translates into tangible benefits:

Enhanced innovation and problem-solving: Diverse perspectives, combined with a safe space to share ideas, lead to a wider range of solutions and creative approaches. Imagine a marketing team brainstorming campaign ideas. Each idea inspires and builds upon the others, leading to a more impactful and innovative campaign.

Improved employee engagement and morale: When colleagues feel seen, heard, and valued, they’re more invested in their work and their company’s success. A software development team, for example, might feel a sense of ownership and pride in their work if leaders acknowledge their contributions and celebrate project milestones. This fosters a positive work environment and motivates employees to go above and beyond.

Boosted resilience and adaptability: In today’s fast-paced business environment, challenges and changes are inevitable. A team that trusts and supports each other is better equipped to overcome these hurdles. Imagine a sales team facing changing market trends. Through open communication and collaboration, they can adapt their strategies, learn from each other’s experiences, and emerge stronger as a unit.

Micromanagement: The Enemy of Progress

Micromanagement, masquerading as efficiency, is actually a productivity killer:

Kills creativity and initiative: Employees constantly under scrutiny are less likely to take risks or experiment with new ideas, fearing judgment or disapproval.

Breeds resentment and distrust: Constant micromanagement creates a stressful environment, eroding trust and fostering resentment towards management.

Hinders learning and development: Micromanaged employees feel stifled and unable to learn from their mistakes and grow professionally. They lack opportunities to take ownership and experiment, hindering their development and potential.

Increases employee turnover: Feeling undervalued and micromanaged is a recipe for disengagement and ultimately, employee turnover. Talented individuals are more likely to seek opportunities where their skills and contributions are valued and they have the autonomy to thrive.

Solidarity: The Path Forward

Building a culture of solidarity requires conscious effort from both leaders and employees:

Leadership: Leaders must empower their teams, setting clear expectations while providing the resources and autonomy needed to succeed. This means trusting their team’s abilities, encouraging initiative, and offering support and guidance without micromanaging every step.

Communication: Fostering open communication through regular meetings, feedback sessions, and team-building activities is crucial. This allows for open exchange of ideas, challenges, and concerns, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone feels comfortable contributing.

Recognition and appreciation: A simple “thank you” or acknowledging a colleague’s contribution goes a long way in boosting morale and building a sense of shared purpose. Recognizing and celebrating achievements, both individual and team-based, demonstrates appreciation and motivates employees to continue excelling.

Focus on strengths: Recognizing and leveraging the unique strengths of each team member allows individuals to contribute their best and feel valued. By understanding each team member’s strengths and weaknesses, leaders can delegate tasks effectively, fostering a sense of ownership and maximizing individual potential

Micromanagement isn’t the answer. Solidarity is. It’s not a passive concept, but a dynamic force that drives innovation, empowers individuals, and ultimately, propels your company towards success. Let’s choose a path paved with trust, collaboration, and the collective spirit of a team that thrives together.

While it is easily accessible on
smartphones and computers, many users have been wondering about the
availability of WhatsApp for iPad. In this article, we will explore the various
aspects of WhatsApp for iPad, including its features, user feedback, and
compatibility options. Let’s dive in!

The pros

WhatsApp Messenger offers a wide range of features that enhance the
messaging experience. One of its key functionalities is the ability to synchronize chats between your smartphone and computer. With WhatsApp for Mac, you can conveniently access all your messages on your computer and continue conversations seamlessly. This feature is particularly useful when you’re working on your laptop or desktop.
In addition to text messaging, WhatsApp also supports voice and video calling. Whether you want to have a quick catch-up with a friend or have a group video call with your family members, WhatsApp provides a reliable and easy-to-use platform for audio and video communication. The call quality is generally excellent, allowing you to stay connected with your loved ones wherever they may be.

Another useful feature of WhatsApp is the ability to share files. Whether it’s
photos, videos, or documents, you can quickly send and receive files through the app. This feature is helpful for work-related collaborations or sharing personal moments with friends and family.
Furthermore, WhatsApp provides various privacy settings, allowing you to control who can see your profile picture, last seen status, and more.

The cons

While WhatsApp has gained immense popularity, it is not without its flaws. Users have expressed concerns regarding banning issues, group management challenges, and data privacy. Some individuals have reported being randomly banned from WhatsApp, without any apparent violation of the terms of service. This has caused frustration and inconvenience, especially for those who rely on WhatsApp for important communications.
Group management has also been a pain point for some users. WhatsApp lacks a straightforward way to list and edit the groups that a user is a member of. This can lead to the creation of duplicate groups and difficulty in managing a large number of group chats. While some workarounds exist, such as navigating through the new communities section, users have expressed frustration with thisaspect of the app.

Data privacy and security are important considerations for any messaging app. WhatsApp collects certain data, including purchases, financial information, location, contacts, and user content. While this data is linked to a user’s identity, WhatsApp assures users that their privacy practices may vary based on the features used. It’s crucial for users to review the app’s privacy policy and understand how their data is being handled.
WhatsApp Messenger is available on various platforms, including iPhone, Android, and Windows. However, when it comes to iPad, there is no dedicated version of WhatsApp
available. WhatsApp’s decision not to support iPad is primarily due to the fact that iPads do not have SMS or call capabilities.
As a result, setting up new accounts on WiFi-only devices is not supported.
However, there are workarounds available for iPad users to access WhatsApp. One option is to use WhatsApp Web through a web browser. By visiting web.whatsapp.com and scanning a QR code with your mobile device, you can log into your WhatsApp account and use it on your iPad. While this method allows iPad users to access WhatsApp, it is not as seamless as having a dedicated app.
Users have expressed their desire for WhatsApp to develop an iPad version,
similar to the one available for Mac and Windows.

Is there a dedicated version of WhatsApp for iPad available?

Currently, WhatsApp does not offer a dedicated version of its app for iPad.
However, users can still access WhatsApp on their iPad by using WhatsApp Web through a web browser. Can WhatsApp be used on an iPad without using the web or mirroring from another device? At the moment, there is no way to use WhatsApp on an iPad without relying on the web version or mirroring from another device. WhatsApp’s requirement for SMS or call capability limits its availability on iPad.
What features does the iPad version of WhatsApp offer compared to the mobile version? As there is no official iPad version of WhatsApp, it is difficult to compare the features of the two versions. However, users hope that a dedicated iPad app would offer a seamless and
optimized experience for larger screens.

How can I download and install WhatsApp on my iPad?

Since there is no dedicated iPad version, you cannot download and install
WhatsApp directly from the App Store on your iPad. Instead, you can use
WhatsApp Web or mirror WhatsApp from your iPhone to use it on your iPad.

WhatsApp has undoubtedly transformed the way we communicate, providing a convenient and reliable platform for messaging, voice and video calling, as well as file sharing. While iPad users currently do not have a dedicated version of WhatsApp, there are workarounds available to access the app on their devices. However, users have expressed their desire for WhatsApp to develop an iPad version to enhance the user experience. As WhatsApp continues to evolve and adapt to users’ needs, we can expect further improvements and possible solutions for iPad users in the future.

/GGR
