Rome to Host the 2027 InterPride General Meeting & World Conference

Rome will host the 45th GM&WC of InterPride in 2027, bringing together organizers, activists, and Pride leaders from all over the world. The bid, promoted by Roma Pride and Circolo di Cultura Omosessuale Mario Mieli, was selected at the latest InterPride Conference, reaffirming Rome’s historic role in the global LGBTQIA+ movement.

More than 25 years after WorldPride 2000, the Eternal City becomes once again a hub of visibility, unity and solidarity. The program will include workshops, plenaries, cultural events, networking, exchanges with numerous delegates from over 400 organizations, and caucuses dedicated to trans, non-binary, GNC, intersex and BIPOC communities.

The Global Advisory Council (GAC) of InterPride will have two open seats on the Board of Directors, representing the many autonomous regions of the Organization.

Persons filling these roles may apply from only the following regions/continents:

• Africa — Region 16

Following a ballot of existing board members, InterPride welcomes three new Board Members with immediate effect.

Rick André (he/him) of Kelowna Pride (Canada) and Geneva Pride and Zürich Pride (Switzerland) was elected as Vice President of Member Services, following the resignation of Debbie Brixey. We thank Debbie for her years of service to InterPride, and we look forward to working with Rick in the months and years ahead.

Kristie Matheson (she/her) of Winnipeg Pride (Canada) was elected as Vice President of Accessibility, a new role created following a resolution proposed at the most recent AGM and World Conference that split the role of Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility into two roles. Richard Brethour-Bell continues as Vice President of Diversity & Inclusion.

Diane Minnis (she/her) of First Mardi Gras Inc. (Australia) was elected as Vice President of Global Outreach, filling a role vacated by Rahul Upadhyay when they were elected Co-President. We thank Charlene Liu (she/her, Shanghai Pride, China) and Christopher Joell-Deshields (he/him, Pride in London, UK) for stepping up and running for the role.

EN Call for Submissions — Vice President Seats Open

We’re calling for submissions by those who might be interested in filling the open Vice President seats on the InterPride Board of Directors. InterPride strives for a widely diverse participation in all roles within the Organization.

Deadline: Submission period closes on Friday 8 March 2024 at 17:00 GMT.

The following criteria should be submitted to governance.chairs@interpride.org, in one comprehensive email, with the subject field reading “Candidate — YourName — Role” (for example, Candidate — Alex Black — VP Global Outreach):

• 400-word maximum narrative bio inclusive of candidate statement (what you plan to contribute/bring to InterPride). Be sure to include your pronouns!
• Letter of Intent (stating which role you seek and why)
• Letter of endorsement (from your actively affiliated InterPride full-member organization, in good standing — membership fees fully paid in 2023 and expected to be in 2024)
• Three references with full contact information
• Note which years you attended the IP General Meeting & World Conference (including virtual)
• Add details about your other IP activity (committee membership, previous officer roles, workgroups and task forces)

Open seats

The Vice President of Global Outreach will serve as a liaison to the Global Advisory Council (GAC) Directors and members of Regions 1 (Mexico only), 9, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20; working together with the three other VPGOs, to expand and support InterPride membership. There is one seat currently open for appointment. This seat fills the role vacated by Rahul Upadhyay, and the term ends after the 2026 Board elections. Re-election is possible.

The Vice President of Accessibility is a brand new role created by the membership this year. There are no duties to relate at this time — persons seeking this role will help to create a definition and overview of the position. There is one seat currently open for appointment. This seat’s term ends after the 2024 Board elections and re-election is possible.

The Vice President of Member Services develops and implements member resources and benefits, ensures accessibility to said resources and benefits, and communicates their existence to the Membership; develops and maintains a membership guide and delivers it to each new and renewing Member Organization after receiving confirmation of dues payment by the Treasurer; establishes and maintains a database of the Organization’s membership data regarding all current and former Member Organizations and making it available as might be required; and chair or co-chairs the Member Services Committee. There is one seat currently open for appointment. This seat fills the role vacated by Debbie Brixey, and the term ends after the 2024 Board elections. Re-election is possible.

In seeking to fill positions that are non-gender specific, the Organization shall strive to achieve the goal of gender parity and we are particularly keen to hear from candidates who are women, trans, non-binary and intersex as these identities are under-represented on our current board. We also strive for a balance of representation from members self-identified as large, medium, and small organizations; and a balance of geographic representation.

Conditions:

• At no time shall more than one person from any given Full Member organization serve on the Board.
• It is recommended that no less than two of the Vice President roles be filled by female-identified candidates. At this time, there are currently no female-identified Vice Presidents.

Process: Candidate criteria will be reviewed by Governance, for verification they meet the criteria, then will be presented to the Co-Presidents and the Board of Directors (or notified if they do not meet the criteria). There will be an opportunity for a question and answer session, before the Board votes on the appointments.

Estamos a convidar à apresentação de candidaturas de pessoas que possam estar interessadas em preencher os lugares de vice-presidente em aberto no Conselho de Administração da InterPride. A InterPride esforça-se por ter uma participação muito diversificada em todas as funções da Organização.

Prazo final: O período de apresentação de candidaturas encerra na sexta-feira, 8 de março de 2024, às 17:00 GMT.

Os seguintes critérios devem ser enviados para governance.chairs@interpride.org, num único e-mail abrangente, com o campo de assunto “Candidato — YourName — Role” (por exemplo, Candidato — Alex Black — VP Global Outreach):

Michelle Meow, Producer & Host

Michelle Meow is the host and producer of “The Michelle Meow Show.” The program’s tagline is: “Your A-Z, covering the LGBT, LMNOP, and everyone in between.” Michelle’s mission is to construct opportunities for people to listen to deep conversations to develop understanding and empathy. She shares, “We simply don’t have enough opportunities to talk and not enough moments to listen.” Michelle’s show can be heard in San Francisco and nationally on the Progressive Voices Network, and her local TV show can be seen on KBCW TV and Channel 44.

Michelle also produces programs at the iconic Commonwealth Club, where she has also served on their Board of Governors. There, she is dedicated to conversations around social justice with an intersectional lens. She has interviewed notable thought leaders such as Olympic medalist Adam Rippon, NFL’s first out LGBTQ coach Katie Sowers, the first American woman in space, and Sally Ride’s widow, Tam O’Shaughnessy. Since 2006, Michelle has been a co-host of the San Francisco Pride Parade broadcast and was President of their Board of Directors from 2014 to 2018. She is a self-described LGBTQI+ history geek, information sponge, and lover, not a fighter.

Michelle shares, “Exchanging thoughtful dialogue can create change. We are all different, but we find similarities and hope in our differences. Exchanging thoughtful dialogue can create the change we all seek in humanity.”

Zooey Zephyr (she/her) is the first trans woman to be elected to the Montana State Legislature, representing HD100. She shares her experience and the fight for visibility.

About Zooey

Zooey Zephyr is a progressive, bisexual trans woman, and the current state representative for Montana’s 100th House district

Zephyr has spent much of her adult life working as a public employee for the University of Montana, as well as working as a community advocate. She has worked to help university programs integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion practices into their faculty requirements, and has worked with the city of Missoula, Montana to draft human rights legislation tailored towards making justice more accessible to people who have been discriminated against.

As a representative, she fights for human rights — from voting rights to trans rights to working towards dismantling the cruelties of the prison-industrial complex. She also works to address what she sees as four of the big, interconnected areas where Montana is failing to adequately help its residents: housing inequality, health care, infrastructure, and climate change.

SAN DIEGO, OCTOBER 23, 2023–381 delegates representing 139 Pride organizations from 32 countries across the world will be flocking to San Diego to network, share knowledge, engage with each other, and work on the business of their organization, InterPride, in the frame of its 41st annual General Meeting & World Conference (GM&WC).

The GM&WC features high-level sessions and networking opportunities to help Pride organizers better understand their dynamics, acknowledge diversity, recognize their respective manifold realities, and foster a climate of encouragement and healthy exchanges of ideas.

The Co-Presidents of InterPride, Hadi Damien and Natalie Thompson, said: “We’re delighted to be back in San Diego after 40 years, and we say a big THANK YOU to San Diego Pride and to the InterPride team for pulling this event together.”

“InterPride is not just an assembly of global advocates; it is an annual culmination of our shared legacy, a reaffirmation of our collective strength, and a testament to the power of unity forged out of our vibrantly diverse communities,” stated Fernando Lopez, San Diego Pride executive director. “It’s an honor to be part of an organization that helped lay InterPride’s foundation and to host the 40th-anniversary return of the conference to our beautiful city.”

59 workshops, 8 caucuses, 2 plenaries, social events, and other open spaces and moments offer Pride delegates the opportunity to meet, share ideas, feedback, and desires for a better future.

Our collective hope is that by the end of the GM&WC, Pride delegates would have built stronger connections, broaden their horizons, developed their leadership, and become better equipped to engage with all that affects the realities of Pride organizers all over the world.

As InterPride rounds out its 40th year, this GM&WC is an opportunity for Pride organizers to meet new members that have joined the organization, and to see the many familiar and returning faces.

InterPride was founded in 1982 by Marsha H. Levine* from the Boston Lesbian/Gay Pride Committee, Rick Turner from San Francisco Pride, and Doug Moore* from San Diego Pride.

Founding Members hail from the following organizations: Pride Chicago (Rich Pfeiffer), Christopher Street Liberation Day Committee (Tony Gambino, Dave Colle, AJanet Love*, Brian O’Dell*, Fred Goldhaber, R.
