As many of us already know, the blockchain is decentralized, and this will mean that there’s no central authority, and I mean not even one (like a bank) controlling it.

Instead, it relies on multiple validators who work independently, and this brings to light an amazing system where trust isn’t placed in a single entity but spread across many, making the network more secure and less prone to corruption or hacking.

If you can remember vividly, I said in opening that we will get to look at how to go about selecting a validator, staking in it, the reasons for staking and why users should do it (or not), and the advantages and disadvantages of staking. But before we go into this, it is proper to take us through what staking means for those that might be coming across it for the first time and also to brush up on it for those who already know a thing or two about staking.


WHAT IS STAKING?
Staking is like supporting one of these accountants (validators) by locking up some of your own money (tokens) to show that you trust them to do their job correctly. In return, you can earn a reward.

In simple terms, imagine that each validator is like a small business, and you have the chance to invest in one of them. You choose one that you trust and give them a deposit to show that you’re confident they’ll do their job well, and you get to earn returns on it. This simple concept of depositing and earning rewards is what we term STAKING.

THE STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO SELECT AND STAKE IN A VALIDATOR

STEP 1: Make the choice of a blockchain you’d want to stake on:
Now this is very, very important because each blockchain has its own set of validators. Breaking it down further, Polygon, Solana, or the Arbitrum blockchain have their own group of validators that you can choose from.

STEP 2: Carry out proper research on validators before choosing any:
I said this to say that the following are extremely important when on the road of making a choice of a validator:

Reputability & Performance: Does the validator you’re about to choose have a track record of delivery on its job? You will be able to ascertain this when you check reviews of their past users.

Commission Fees: We know that some of these validators take a slice off your rewards, and that’s fine and good as a token for their job well done, but you need to make sure that these slices, known as commission fees, should not be cumbersome but very considerable.
