The Myth of the Exhausted Creator

There was a time when “hustle culture” ruled social media — when sleepless nights and endless content churn were worn like badges of honor. But in 2025, the game has changed. The most successful creators aren’t the ones posting relentlessly; they’re the ones who’ve mastered the art of working smarter, not harder.

At Kommunity Flex, we’ve learned this firsthand. After working with hundreds of creatives and managing our own explosive growth, one truth became clear: burnout is the enemy of brilliance.

Here’s how to stay sharp, relevant, and sane in the social media landscape of 2025.

1. The 70/30 Rule: Less Content, More Impact

The Problem:
Posting daily doesn’t guarantee virality, it guarantees fatigue.

The Fix:
Shift to the 70/30 content model:

70% of your content should be high-value, low-effort (repurposed clips, smart UGC collaborations, AI-assisted scripts)

30% is your “signature work” — the deeply researched, culturally rooted pieces that remind audiences why they follow you

Why It Works:
A study by Content Science Institute found that creators using this model saw 43% higher engagement with 60% less production stress.

KF Example:
When we reduced the frequency of our posts, our impressions improved and we gained followers.

2. Algorithm-Proof Your Content with “Cultural Anchors”

The 2025 Reality:
Platforms prioritize content that sparks real-world conversations, not just likes.

The Strategy:
Weave in Cultural Anchors — elements that tie your content to:

Local proverbs (e.g., framing a business tip with “The tortoise didn’t learn to walk slowly in one day”)

Hyper-current events (but only if authentically relevant)

Nostalgia triggers (e.g., “Remember when Nollywood used this trope? Here’s why it worked”)

Keyword Tip:
Phrases like “African storytelling techniques” and “culturally relevant content” now trend in SEO searches.

3. The “Creative Sabbath” (No, Really)

The Science:
Neuroscience proves that creativity replenishes itself, but only if given real rest.

The KF Method:

One platform-free day weekly (your brain needs analogue time)

Quarterly “Off-Grid” Weeks (where we literally leave our phones at the office and retreat like our Takwa Bay reset)

Pro Tip:
Use this time to consume art, not content. Visit galleries, read physical books, or just people-watch at a local buka.

4. Batch Creation + Strategic Silence

The Hack:

Record 10 video clips in one studio session (then drip-release)

Schedule “silent periods” (e.g., no stories on Sundays, audiences now respect boundaries)

2025 Shift:
Followers now value consistency over frequency. Posting 3 stellar times weekly beats 7 mediocre ones.

5. Let AI Handle the Busywork (So You Don’t Have To)

Tools We Trust:

ScriptGenius: Turns your voice notes into polished scripts

ClipCraft: Auto-edits long videos into platform-ready snippets

EngageBot: Handles 80% of DM responses (trained in your tone)

Human Touch:
AI drafts, but you add the soul: like sprinkling in local slang or personal anecdotes.

Dominating social media in 2025 isn’t about shouting the loudest, it’s about resonating the deepest. By working smarter, honoring your cultural roots, and protecting your mental space, you create work that lasts.

Audit your current content against the 70/30 rule

Block your first “Creative Sabbath” in your calendar

Reply to this article with your biggest burnout challenge — we’ll send personalized tips

At Kommunity Flex, we don’t just talk about sustainable creativity — we live it. Every strategy here was forged through our own trials, errors, and breakthroughs while building a real community of African creators who refuse to choose between success and sanity.

This isn’t just advice; it’s an invitation.

👉 Follow @KommunityFlex for daily doses of this energy, where we break down trends, share behind-the-scenes hustles, and spotlight creatives like you.

👉 Join the KF inner circle to connect with fellow creators who’re rewriting the rules, no burnout required.

Because the future belongs to those who create on their own terms. Are you in?

For the first time ever in Kommunity Khronicles history, we sat down with not one, but two creatives in the same session and trust us, it was music to our ears. Literally.

We had the absolute joy of catching up with Bonnie Tunes, the talented sister duo made up of Isiramen Graceheart and Isiramen Greatness. If you’ve been online lately and randomly smiled after stumbling on two girls harmonizing sweetly in their living room, you’ve probably met them already virtually, at least.

They’ve been melting hearts across the internet with their soulful songs, vibrant energy, and a kind of sisterly synergy that feels rare and refreshing. But it turns out there’s a deeper story behind the harmonies. From a supportive brother (shoutout to Gideon, one of our illustrators here at Kommunity Flex) to a father they call “a genius,” Bonnie Tunes is built on more than music it’s built on community.

Names / Brand Name

Graceheart: Good evening, my name is Isiramen Graceheart.
Greatness: And I’m Isiramen Greatness. Together, we’re Bonnie Tunes.

What’s Your Flex?

Graceheart: I love singing a lot and I can sing anywhere, anytime.
Greatness: For me, it’s the fact that we sing regardless of the season or time. It’s what we love.

Fun Fact

We both love to draw, dance, and act just as much as we love to sing. Basically? We’re vibes all round.

Favorite Book/Song/Movie

Greatness: I don’t really have a favorite book, song, or movie I just enjoy everything. Same goes for my sister. We like to soak it all in.

Hobbies / Interests

Singing, drawing, acting. It’s who we are and what we do.

Tell us about a Recent Project you’re working on

We just released a gospel track titled “You Made a Way” with our dad (by the time you’re reading this, it’s live!). It’s a really special one, and we’re excited to share it with the world.

What Sparked Your Creative Journey?

We’ve always been singing at home, but one day our brother Gideon said, “This is too nice to keep to ourselves.” He recorded a video, posted it and the rest is history.

What’s the Most Challenging Project You’ve Worked On?

Greatness: We haven’t really faced any creative challenges yet. Our dad is very experienced, and he guides us a lot, so things flow.

What Does a Day in Creative Mode Look Like?

We wake up, do house chores like every other child, rehearse, and record. We don’t over-edit just clean, simple videos that speak for themselves.

How Do You Handle Creative Blocks?

We haven’t had any yet. Maybe because we’re always having fun!

Who Inspires You?

We draw inspiration from everyone. It could be a random TikTok video or something we saw in passing. We just stay open to it all.

Fun Fact That Might Surprise People

We play a lot. Behind the calm voices and sweet songs? Chaos. But the fun kind.

How Do Your Hobbies Feed Into Your Work?

Singing used to just be a hobby and now it’s our thing. So yes, our hobbies influence everything.

A Lesson That Stuck With You

Greatness: It’s not about talent alone. If God isn’t with you, nothing can happen. God is everything.

If Your Creative Journey Was a Movie, what would it be titled in 10 words and why?

Just Vibes, No Mics — Then Boom, We Went Viral

Because We were just having fun, posting for the vibes, didn’t expect it to blow up like that!

Advice to Fellow Creatives

Greatness: Be yourself. Believe in yourself. Don’t get distracted.
Graceheart: Stay focused and be determined.

Throughout the interview, the theme that kept echoing was support. While Graceheart was setting up for the call, their dad, who I caught glimpses of, was nearby helping. And the girls kept returning to how much his input, encouragement, and talent guides them.

Their creative journey is a reminder that it’s not always about the loudest shout or the fanciest gear, it’s about the support, the intention, and the love poured into your craft.

So yes, their name is Bonnie Tunes, and yes, they sing beautiful songs. But behind that is something even more beautiful: a kommunity that lifts them up, believes in them, and gives them the courage to keep going.

Know someone we should spotlight next?

Clap for this article to show Bonnie Tunes some love, leave a comment with who we should talk to next, and don’t forget to follow us here and on Instagram @kommunityflex for more inspiring stories like this.

And if you missed any past editions of Kommunity Khronicles, head to our Medium profile and catch up. You’re going to love it here.

Not the birth father but the father who stepped up

If you’ve ever seen Flexy (Kommunity Flex’s mascot) or the quirky avatars of Flexers in our content, you’ve witnessed the magic of Hermann Paul Ayomiposi the man who speaks in visuals, not words.

A man of few words in group chats but many strokes on his canvas, Herman is the detail-obsessed illustrator behind Kommunity Flex’s most iconic visuals. Tag him in any campaign, and like clockwork, he delivers artistry so sharp, it’ll make you question if he sleeps with a Wacom pen in hand.

Join us as we pull back the curtain on the artist who turns briefs into brilliance and who, despite calling himself “lazy,” might just be the hardest worker in the room.

Name/Brand Name: Hermann Paul Ayomiposi. My brand name is simply my surname: Herman.

Flex: What do I take pride in? Hmm…do I have a flex? I’d say the ease of my creativity, how effortlessly ideas and originality flow through me.

Fun Fact: I’m extremely detail-oriented. Whether it’s conversations, habits, or even the color of Tope’s (KF team member) last nail set, I notice it all. There’s something about details that captivates me, and it reflects heavily in my work.

Favorite Book/Song/Movie:

Book: Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I don’t know why, but it’s had me in a chokehold since I first read it.

Song: Anything by Travis Scott. I’m a simple man.

Movie: MCU everything. Give me all of it.

Hobbies/Interests: Drawing, illustrating, video games, cooking, hands-on activities, and painting; especially acrylics. I dabble in it all.

Recent Project: Right now, I’m deep into kommunity-focused work, with Betajollof with Kunmi taking up most of my creative energy. I’ve also got a few personal projects simmering on the side.

What first sparked your interest in your creative field? The freedom of originality. It felt nothing like mathematics. I fell in love with the spontaneity and self-expression this space allows me.

A project that challenged your creativity? Recently, I’ve been pushing myself with industry-standard tools to level up my illustrations. Learning design techniques and diving into animations has been tough, but I know it’ll be rewarding soon.

A typical day in full creative mode? Back pain. Laughs. I’m a bit lazy, so I take breaks, lock in with a podcast or music, work, eat, and repeat. I can’t stay in one spot too long.

How do you overcome creative blocks? Blocks have been constant lately. Artist friends tell me to take breaks, but breaks sometimes kill my momentum. Other times, I’m advised to create for myself or switch tasks to refresh my mind. It helps me return with a new perspective.

Any inspirations? Seeing others’ work online can make me doubt my own, so I don’t linger. I admire it, then keep it moving. My artist friends’ work ethics and creations inspire me more. Music-wise, anything that gets my head nodding works.

A fun fact people wouldn’t guess? I’ve never been fully satisfied with any of my work. To me, everything is unfinished. There’s always room to improve.

How does digital art influence your writing (or vice versa)? I write poems, but merging that with my art hasn’t clicked yet. Making visuals as layered yet simple as poetry? Still figuring it out.

Most surprising lesson in your creative career? No matter how stuck I feel, I always lock in and finish. There’s no project I can’t handle or improve on: no excuses.

If your creative journey were a movie, what’s the title in 10 words?
“Hermann’s Artistic Dilemma: Can This Lazy Illustrator Find His Muse?”
It sums up my life; overthinking, calling myself lazy to push harder, and forever searching for that spark to elevate my work.

Advice for someone starting out? People say tools don’t matter, but better tools do help. Your real enemy? Procrastination. Attack briefs immediately. Learn how you work, then use that to get things done.

Hermann calls himself lazy to outsmart laziness. His work? A testament to relentless refinement. From Flexy’s smirk to the tiniest pixel in a campaign, his patience and precision scream one thing: This man doesn’t miss details.

Who should we spotlight next? Tag them in the comments or slide into our DMs on social media.

Clap if you loved this, share if you’re #TeamHermann, and stay tuned for more Kommunity Khronicles.

His growth has been nothing short of phenomenal, and we’re honored to have been part of it.

So, grab a seat, relax, and enjoy as we unwrap the layers of this storyteller — ti awon online Yoruba content lovers n pe ni Olootu Agba.

Name/Brand Name:

My name is Lumee, also known as Olootu Agba. After my service year I started playing with Yoruba proverb content after moving away from being a skitmaker and dry jokes teller. I wasn’t comfortable just making skits; I was on the lookout for something I could sustain, brand, and keep up with.

How does your personal life inspire your work, or vice versa?

I made a video where I mimicked radio presenters, shared it on my WhatsApp status, and people on my contact list loved it. When I pushed it to Instagram, the response was even greater. This made me happy, and I decided to pursue this path. It was really easy for me — I would sit in the car, record my voice with radio sounds playing in the background, and boom, I was done.

I kept pushing out this type of content, and one day, it went viral on Twitter (now X). I had gotten good impressions from Instagram over the years, but never from Twitter. Getting this reaction from people on a platform where people are known to be real and uninterested in the ‘bullsht’ changed things for me. Someone in the comment section mentioned how my name could be Olootu Agba, and I felt there was a nice ring to it, so I took on the name.

I was a bit worried at some point because there’s an established influencer who also does Yoruba content and is an alumnus of my university who goes by the name Agba. But eventually, I warmed up to the name, swallowed my fears, and branded it. I wish I had taken a screenshot of the comment — I even went in search of it, but whoever that person is, God bless you. You named me and my new content era.”

I try to let people understand that the brand is Lumee, but Olootu Agba is the content.

Full Name: Michael Oluwadamilare Adelakun. By default, I’ve always been called Micheal, but somewhere along the line in secondary school, we entered the nickname era, and I definitely didn’t want to be a Mikel or Mikeo. I started using Lumee after someone who knows my father referred to me as Lumee — everyone else called me Lumee jnr, and I loved it, so I picked it up. As a way of keeping his legacy alive: Lumee has always been my fathers nickname, the first time I used it, I wrote it on the wall of my secondary school — ‘Lumee wuz ere.’ It felt good, and Lumee has been here ever since.

Flex: I have always been a creative.

Fun Fact: People think I’m quite deep and very knowledgeable about Yoruba, but I’m sure a good number of my audience know a lot more in-depth Yoruba than I do. My parents are largely surprised too about my fluency but they raised me to be fluent so it gives them pride.

I do a lot of research and practice. The Yoruba I speak is, to a large extent, self-taught, and I try to get better at it for my content. God did!

German Studies and Creative Dreams

Lumee: I studied German, and I’ve thought about creating German content, but I also want to push what is original to me. I’m not ruling out creating German content but for now, I’m trying to build this Yoruba content the best way possible. I believe it has become my life and career, and I cannot abandon it without a clear pathway. I fall into the category of people who don’t know what they want to do with their life because all I’ve ever wanted to do is create.

I never had the thought to study something so I could be something — I just wanted to create. Growing up, I was either painting or considering studying theatre arts because it felt like what a real creative would do. I ended up studying mass communication at the polytechnic, and I believe that’s where I picked up what I do right now.

I moved to university to study German because my parents were very confused as to why I didn’t want to follow up mass communication with CLA studies, which felt like a direct pathway to them. My parents, advised by their friend, told me to put in for law, but I didn’t make the cutoff.

I tried again for sociology and didn’t meet the cutoff, so I ended up changing the course to German. I would never trade the path I’m on. I however make use of my German skills: I take on translation gigs for individuals and the government.

Favorite Book/Song/Movie:

It’s hard for me to have a favorite because I thoroughly enjoy the media I consume, but if I had to pick off the top of my head right now, I’d say:

Book: Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon by Wole Talabi

Song: Was Du Liebe Nennst by Bausa

Movie: Forest Gump

Hobbies/Interests:

Anything that gets me far away from people. My latest healing obsession is going to the beach to take walks, swim, and just touch sand.

Can you describe a recent project that really challenged your creativity?

I’m launching a digital media outlet — Lumee Studios. The video platform will serve as TV, audio as radio, and prints as text. Think of it as a digital media house. I’ll be starting out with Yoruba, but it will grow and embrace more languages.”

This project is taking him out of his comfort zone. “Yes, it is. I’m having to be more accountable because I’m working on it with various people, and because of that, I need to do better, be conscious of their time, and try my best to make sure I show up at my very best. You can’t tell people what to do when you’re also confused. I’m putting a structure to everything I do, and it has kept me on my toes.

What does a typical day look like when you’re in full creative mode?

I don’t get up early on creative days. I come alive around 1 PM. Then I go to the studio to record, create everything I have planned or not planned. Lock in, create, eat, take calls, and make sure I finish everything I need to do. Depending on the day, I either go back home to rest or go out with my friends after to unwind and have a good time vibing to loud music outdoors.

What do you do when you hit a creative block? How do you regain inspiration?

I’ve never hit a creative block. It feels like someone out there is constantly recharging me. I flow like a tap. The minute I start recording, I start to flow. I do have to do research to ensure the quality of what I’m churning out, but for now, I’ve never hit a block.

Is there a particular social media account, artist, book, or piece of music that inspires your work?

Everything inspires me. I could look at a color and be inspired to write a script to voice on. But there are people who are visible influences on defining what I do right now. Yoruba media presenters are the most notable ones. Their flow, melody, and storytelling have shaped what I do and how I do it. One person I listened to a lot was Yinka Ayefele. There’s also a way Gbenga Adeboye uses his voice and storytelling — if he were alive, I’d love to meet and talk to him. There’s also Gboyega Lawal. I love the texture of Yemi Shodimu’s voice too. Also, Kola Olawuyi — words cannot describe how much of an influence he is to my voice and style.

What’s the most surprising lesson you’ve learned in your creative career so far?

The most surprising lesson I’ve learned in my career so far is that you are allowed to explore, evolve, and make adjustments. I’m currently in a good place for someone who is building something from scratch for myself, and I’m here because I allowed myself to do something for myself and wasn’t scared to try something new.

If your creative journey were a movie, what would it be titled in 10 words

Irin Ajo: The Travails of the Storyteller.

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out in your field?

To reach your fullest potential, you need to allow yourself to evolve. Accept that change is a part of progress, the process, and growth. Give room for change; don’t restrict yourself. Grow wings and fly. Be mindful of the sun, but fly.

Loved Lumee’s journey?

So, you want to be a lifestyle creator? Cool.

How to Build a Personal Brand as a Lifestyle Creator

Being a lifestyle creator isn’t just about posting pretty pictures of your oats with boiled eggs and banana or your favourite sunset picture (though, let’s be honest, that’s a solid start). It’s about building a personal brand that screams “This is me, and you’re gonna love it.”

But how do you do that without losing your mind or your followers? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s your flex approved guide to building a personal brand as a lifestyle creator.

1. Know Thyself (Yes, We’re Getting Philosophical)

Before you start posting, ask yourself: “Who am I, and why should anyone care?” Harsh? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely.

Your personal brand is basically your vibe — the thing that makes people stop scrolling and say, “Wait, who’s this?” So, figure out what makes you you. Do some self introspection, Ask your friends, Define your niche, Are you:

A quirky foodie?

The fitness guru who makes granola from scratch?

The traveler who always gets lost but finds the best hidden gems?

Once you know your vibe, curate it and stick to it like glue. This is what will set you apart. Who you are becomes your brand message and that is what you will build on for your content pillars.

2. Pick Your Platform (And Own It)

Not all platforms are created equal but you are not either. Instagram is for the aesthetic, TikTok is for the chaotic videos, and Twitter is for the witty one-liners. Figure out where your audience hangs out and plant your flag there.

Also pay attention to the algorithm — use every new update and change to your advantage. Also do not pay too much attention to the algorithm — understand that it is not you it is them. Don’t let it affect or push you to change the core of your brand.

Pro tip: Don’t try to be everywhere at once. Master one platform first, then expand. Otherwise, you’ll end up like that friend who double-books themselves and shows up to neither event.

3. Content is King (But Engagement is Queen)

Here’s the tea: Your content can be fire, but if you’re not engaging with your audience, you’re basically screaming to a void.

Reply to comments. Slide into DMs (professionally, of course). Ask questions in your captions. Use polls in captions. Use stickers in stories. Add music to posts. Show your followers that you’re a real person who cares about them and brings value to them.

And hey, if someone says something shady? Choose kindness with love emojis. Use it as inspiration for your next content. Or block them.

4. Be Authentic (Because No One Likes a Fake)

Here’s the hard truth: People can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. So, don’t try to be someone you’re not. If you’re a hot mess, own it. If you’re a perfectionist, own that too.

Your quirks are what make you relatable. So, post that awkward selfie. Share that embarrassing story. Let your followers see the real you. Because guess what? Real is refreshing.

In a world where everyone is trying to stand out and blend in, your authentic self is what sets you apart and ahead.

5. Collaborate Like a Boss

Building a personal brand doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Collaborate with other creators, brands, and even your followers.

Host a giveaway. Do a takeover. Partner with a brand that aligns with your vibe — send a cold email to brands you want to work with. Not only will this help you reach new audiences, but it’ll also show that you’re a team player.

And who doesn’t love a team player? We know creatives do.

6. Stay Consistent (But Not Boring)

Consistency doesn’t mean posting the same thing over and over again. It means showing up regularly and staying true to your brand.

Create a content calendar. Plan your posts. Use a scheduler. But leave room for spontaneity. Because life happens, and sometimes the best content is unplanned. Open your eyes to content opportunities in every interaction but have boundaries for things you want to keep to yourself.

7. Analyze and Adapt

Here’s the thing: What works today might not work tomorrow. So, keep an eye on your analytics. See what’s working and what’s not.

If your reels are killing it but your stories are flopping, double down on reels. If your audience loves your travel content but couldn’t care less about your morning routine, give the people what they want.

Building a personal brand as a lifestyle creator isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. It’s about showing up, being yourself, and creating content that resonates with your audience.

So, go forth and flex your creativity. And remember: The world might not need or want another creator but — It needs you.

Ready to take your personal brand to the next level? Follow us on instagram for more tips, tricks, and insights on becoming the best version of yourself.

And hey, if you’ve got a personal branding tip to share, drop it in the comments — be a team player. Let’s flex together!

Too many cooks spoils the broth and we learned firsthand

Kommunity Kitchen Podcast Is Live

We teased it. Then teased it again. Then teased it so much that one might assume what we were cooking got burnt. Maybe it did. Maybe it didn’t. We’ll never know.

Welcome to Lost Files, where we dive into projects that never saw the light of day. This time, we’re talking about Kommunity Kitchen — a project that started as a fun idea but ended up lost in the chaos of creative production.

The Idea That Wasn’t “Serious” (Until It Was)

Kommunity Kitchen wasn’t supposed to be something serious. It was just an idea we tossed around, planned for a while, and even did a mock shoot for. In fact, we did two versions of it. The goal? To get everything perfect, from the setup to the content.

But as with many creative projects, the journey wasn’t straightforward.

Disclaimer: The next few paragraphs are from Akinkunmi, as Ifeoluwa has declined to speak on this sensitive matter.

The Plan (and the Pivot)

For content, we decided to try something different. Let’s shoot outdoors. Let’s break barriers and do something fresh. We got a producer on board, and we started working on it. But here’s the thing: at Kommunity Flex, we work based on available resources. And sometimes, those resources don’t show up when we need them.

We reached out to someone to take charge of the project, and they were on board. But as the production day approached, things started to unravel.

The Disappearing Act

The podcast version of Kommunity Kitchen had already gone through multiple hands — from Precious Ibeh to Oyinda, and finally Christina, who was supposed to produce the show. Oyinda was set to host, holding fun conversations with guests.

Like a Yoruba man named Femi living in Lagos, the idea and its execution bounced through a lot of people.

But on the day of production, the producer disappeared. The reason? In their words, “We’re not ready.”

Fortunately (and unfortunately), the team realigned and shot the pilot episode anyway. We had a sponsor, a popular refreshment brand ready for product placement. We had Choc Boy as the guest. Oyinda and Choc Boy spoke extensively on his brand, the process while having a good time on set.

The Hiccups That Sank the Ship

The episode with Choc Boy was the most manageable version we had, and it got us excited until we realized the set design didn’t meet the project scope. The lighting was great however, a win. The materials weren’t what we needed. And editing? Let’s just say it didn’t go well.

We thought we could salvage it for promotion, but it didn’t work out.

But here’s the catch: this was last year. Faces have changed. People have grown. And now, we’re not even sure if we can use the content anymore.

The project got lost in the editing process, and now, it’s just another file that doesn’t exist anywhere on the internet.

Lessons Learned

As Kunmi puts it, this was a learning experience. He is right, a constant for the team is learning from projects executed and learning more and better from projects we never got to push out.

Kommunity kitchen was a learning curve that taught every member of the team a lesson or two.

Here’s what we took away:

Point People Are Key: Having a dedicated point person for projects creates accountability. The point person holds the team accountable, and the team holds the point person accountable. This ensures smoother project execution with fewer hiccups.

Fix It While Shooting: Whatever needs fixing should be fixed during shooting, not in post-production. Because sometimes, you might never get to post-production.

Beyond the above, this process has fine tuned our execution process as a team too. We pay a lot more attention to details, imagining the end from the beginning — asking the “if we don’t fix it now, will it affect roll out?” Question at every stage.

This has helped us be more accountable towards the process instead of simply believing it and moving on with our day.

What’s Next?

Kommunity Kitchen might be lost, but the lessons remain. And who knows? Maybe one day, we’ll revisit the idea with a fresh perspective and a better plan. When we get to revisit it, it will be treated like a project not an idea with no documents: from the podcast episode ideas, to guests to roll out plans everything will be well documented. Team members will be assigned to specific roles and report to the project manager, a timeline will also be set for the project, with penalties for team members who vanish. Maybe penalties sounds harsh — hehehe.

Kunmi stepped into his big boy shoes of an executor and while I was in the process of getting the gods to approve this article, the first Episode of Kommunity Kitchen: a conversation with Chocboy on starting from the ground up dropped on Spotify.

Guys, say thank you to Kunmi by listening to this life transforming episode on how true love can make you a millionaire. This is not for fake lovers o. Also, safe to say Kommunity Kitchen isn’t lost. We believe the fact that the pilot episode was able to get online in less than a week is a testament to how much we have grown as a team of executors.

For now, it’s another chapter in our Lost Files series. What project should we dissect next? Let us know.

I am the Ugly Filmmaker, and Artist.”

Flex:
Ugly’s work behind the camera speaks volumes — capturing raw moments, crafting visual stories, and pushing the limits of videography.

Fun Fact:
“I like weird food combinations. My favorite is a sandwich with jam, peanut butter, eggs, diced chicken, mayonnaise, and cheese.”

Favorite Book/Song/Movie:
“My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. For music, it changes a lot, but right now, I’m into ‘Back and Forth’ by Blessing. And for movies, I’m loving Dune Part 2.”

“As a filmmaker, I appreciate Dune because of its incredible storytelling and world-building. It mixes high-end technology with fiction in a way that’s immersive and relatable. The Alchemist speaks to my love for self-help books that aren’t too direct. And for music, I waited a long time for Back and Forth to release, so I’m obsessed with it now.”

Hobbies/Interests:
“I like listening to music, writing, painting, drawing, swimming, playing video games, and taking morning jogs. Oh, and coffee! Coffee fuels my creative juices.”

What first sparked your interest in videography?
“I’ve always been fascinated by films, even as a kid. But it wasn’t until later that I discovered what it took to actually make one. Learning the behind-the-scenes process made me fall in love with videography even more.”

Can you describe a recent project that really challenged your creativity?
“To be honest, I haven’t done a project recently that really challenged me creatively. Most of the work I do is already well-defined, so I just expand on it.”

He subtly hints that he is looking for that next big challenge. A project that pushes the boundaries, and he’s constantly searching for ways to stretch his creative limits. He also teases working on his exhibition.

What does a typical day look like when you’re in full creative mode?
“My day starts at 4 AM and ends around 9:30 PM. I have quiet time in the morning, jog, work out, and do yoga while drinking tea and creating art. From 9 AM, I’m editing videos, working on treatments, and doing director work until the evening.”

What do you do when you hit a creative block? How do you regain inspiration?
“Oh yeah, it happens often. My routine helps me keep the creative juices flowing. If I hit a block, I’ll take a walk, travel, or talk to a friend to clear my head.”

Even the best creatives hit a wall sometimes. For Ugly, the key to overcoming it is movement — both physically and mentally.

Is there a particular social media account, artist, book, or piece of music that inspires your work?
“I find inspiration everywhere, but specifically, I look up to Gabriel Moses, whose style aligns with how I see my future work. I’m also inspired by Christopher Nolan and various contemporary dancers like Imre van Opstal.”

Tell us a fun fact about you that no one would guess just by looking at your work.
“I’m extremely introverted.”

How does your personal life inspire your work, or vice versa?
“My morning routine sets the tone for my day. If I skip it, the whole day feels off. My personal habits keep me grounded, and my work influences how I spend my free time as well.”

Balance is key. His personal life and creative work are interwoven, each influencing the other in harmony.

What’s the most surprising lesson you’ve learned in your creative career so far?
“That everything is in your own hands. If you’re not making it, it’s because you’re not putting in the work.”

Success, according to him, is a matter of consistent effort.

If your creative journey were a movie, what would it be titled in 10 words and why?
“My creative journey is just starting, so I can’t name it yet.”

What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting out in your field?
“We’re all starting out together, so just have fun and do your thing.”

Ugly reminds us that creativity is a journey, not a race. His advice? Enjoy the ride and keep pushing forward.

Ugly may describe himself as introverted, but his work speaks boldly for itself.

In the words of Kunmi, “Let’s start from the beginning.”

The idea for the Flex Ibadan documentary was simple: spotlight the people who brought the event to life — partners, team members, and performers. But, like many projects, the journey took unexpected turns. By the end, we had a beginning and…well, an ending. But it’s what happened in between that makes this story a part of our Lost Files series.

The Power of Documentation

So, welcome to our Lost Files series — a spotlight on projects archived for one reason or another. Today, we share the story behind the Flex February (Ibadan) documentary.

One thing we’ve learned is this: documenting an event is just as important as the event itself. Beyond metrics and ROI, it’s the only way to back up your claims and flex your work. That’s why we started considering a documentary for Flex February (Ibadan) — our first Flex event series. But documenting an event means capturing everything from the very start, which we didn’t. As a result, key footage was missing, and critical stories went untold.

Why Flex Ibadan Holds a Special Place in Our Hearts

Flex February (Ibadan) was more than just an event. It was where we tested ideas that would go on to succeed in future events. Maybe that’s why it holds such a special place in our hearts. But despite the events success, the documentary ended up in the Lost Files. Why?

It was an afterthought. We didn’t think about documenting the event until after it had already happened. By then, key moments had already passed. When team members spoke about crucial planning stages — like Ife, who went location scouting while battling a fever (he did not do this) or maybe he did, you would never know — we couldn’t back up their stories with footage. And without those visuals, even the most dramatic stories can fall flat.

If you’re a documentary enthusiast, you know how visuals bring a story to life. They make the audience feel the moment. And yes, some documentaries even hire actors to reenact missing scenes (no, we’d rather not). But this experience taught us one thing: record everything. Every moment, no matter how mundane, could become part of the bigger story.

The Struggle to Tie It All Together

Without key footage, our editors had a stressful time putting together the nonexistent footage which ended up affecting the team’s morale. Maybe it wasn’t a complete failure, but it didn’t meet our standards. As a brand that prides itself on being the best, we couldn’t put out a project that showcased our weaknesses. It would have the same effect as tying ourselves to the tree at the village square and screaming — “see our shame”

Back then, we didn’t have the content team we needed. No one was there to say, “What if we tell the story from this angle?” It became clear that storytelling requires more than just raw footage — it requires people who understand how to weave those moments into something compelling.

Thankfully, that experience pushed us to grow. Our content today tells a much clearer story, and we’ve made storytelling a key part of everything we do.

Key Figures Disappeared — And So Did the Story

To fill in the gaps left by missing footage, we tried an interview format. We brought in key figures who contributed to the event’s success. But some didn’t show up. When important voices are missing, the puzzle is incomplete, and in this case, the holes in the story only get bigger.

That experience taught us another important lesson: operations matter. Our systems weren’t optimized, and that led to a documentary that never saw the light of day. Enthusiasm for the project dwindled, and eventually, it joined the ranks of our Lost Files.

Lessons Learned: Story Is Everything

This documentary project reinforced one crucial lesson: story is everything. You can’t start from the end; you have to capture the entire journey. Now, we always have cameras rolling. Whether it’s a big moment or something small, we capture it all, knowing that the magic of a moment can’t be recreated.

This experience also pushed us to expand our team. We brought in new people who are passionate about storytelling, and we even let team members choose passion projects to work on. The result? A team that’s not just executing tasks but telling stories that matter.

What’s Next for Our Lost Files Series?

For this Lost Files episode, we’d love to show you the video and ask, “Watch, enjoy, and tell us what you think.” But it wouldn’t be a Lost Files project if the content was actually available, right?

So, just imagine watching it, and agreeing with us. What project would you like us to dissect next?
