To understand Web3, you must first understand the Web as a whole!

The Web1 — Read Only.

It all started with Web1 from 1990 to 2004.

During the Web 1.0 era, websites were primarily static and owned by corporations.

User interaction was extremely limited, and content was rarely created by individuals. This lack of user interaction earned Web 1.0 a reputation as a read-only Web.

The Web2 — Read, Write, Interact.

The onset of Web 2.0 started around 2004 and continues today.

With the emergence of social media platforms, there was a significant shift in the online landscape.

This transition transformed the web from a read-only experience to a read-write environment.

Instead of solely providing content, companies also introduced platforms that facilitated the sharing of user-generated content and interactions between users.

With Web2, users gained the ability to create content, but they did not possess ownership rights or reap the benefits of it.

Instead, big tech companies and sites where you are publishing own everything you create. Every bit of data and content you make! This is a real issue.

Even more when we know that big companies are using our data and making huge profits with it!

The Web3 — Read, Write, Own.

Regarding what we said in the Web2 part, you have understood that everything you publish, create and share does not belong to you. Every entity where you publish content owns your creation and data.

But Web3 fix this! Web3 is not only a question of decentralization. It’s about Ownership!

When you interact with Web3 applications (we call them dApp: Decentralized Application), all your content is relayed on the blockchain.

If you want to interact with Web3 and publish content, you will need a wallet. This wallet will allow you to start publishing content that you really own on the web3 application.

And everything you’ll create belongs to your wallet and is relayed on the blockchain. So you are the owner of everything.

So Why Web3?

1/ Ownership.

Web3 is built on the foundational idea of ownership, which encompasses more than just technical or financial changes. It way to connect with one another.

Ownership relies on 3 desires :

• Desire of Control
• Desire of Belong
• Desire to express our Identity

Our relationship with ownership evolves as we grow up.

First, when we are a child, ownership is related to control. And then, when our social brain emerges, Ownership is more seen as a Social tool to express our Identity.

Ownership is a huge part of the Web3 space. This is the core value of this ecosystem. Own everything you have, create, like…

NFTs played a big part in allowing people to understand what Ownership means. People were buying NFTs and flexing their NFTs on social networks.

And they were proud to be part of a community. Web3 brings the collective piece of Ownership. That’s why Ownership in Web3 is so powerful!

Why? Because people were proud of their possession and knew they were the only person who owned the NFT they collected.

2/ Unbanking.

We can’t talk about the benefits of Web3 and Ownership without addressing Unbanking.

In this modern world, it is important to understand that you own nothing.

During a crisis, states and banks will do everything they can to survive. We have seen that recently, with banks freezing transfers because of their situation.

We have seen that with Web3 companies as well. Centralized Exchanges (CEX) freeze crypto transfers many times when they are in trouble.

You have to own your money. For this, you have to buy or create a wallet and send your funds to it.

Nowadays, it is important to have funds that do not belong to an entity or state.

3/ Decentralized Community.

When we talk about Decentralized Community, we can first talk about DAOs.

DAOs are Decentralized Autonomous Organizations. They operate without intermediaries and rely on the collective strength of their members in order to function.

Every DAO has a purpose. You can join a Self-development DAO, Professional Network DAO, Social DAO, DeFi Project’s DAO, Investment DAO…

Brands and Influencers are threatened with censorship by these entities. And this is an issue where most of your business depends on your personal branding and social community.

A decentralized community could be interesting for Brands and Influencers. Most of the communities that we know are on social networks.

Thanks to the Web3 and Decentralized community, you own your community. People who are following you are not following you on specific social media platforms.

They are following you on-chain. Your community will then follow you wherever you go.

4/ Incentivized Space.

The Web3 space has many ways to incentivize people.

We talked earlier about Decentralized Communities.

Communities within Web3 are the most incentivized communities. Every project asks for feedback from their communities and rewards those who helped the project grow.

We talked about DAOs.

People within the DAO are incentivized to be active inside the DAO. DAOs are giving Governance Tokens to DAO members for their activity and help. With this Governance Token, members have voting power and have their say regarding the development of the DAO.

We talked about Ownership and NFTs.

NFTs can be bought and used within a Game.

Playing with your NFT inside the game will allow you to earn real rewards.

We have seen lots of Play To Earn projects rise during this last Bull Market. The principal reason was that people were incentivized to earn rewards while playing!

A New Way of Learning.

The rising of the internet allows people to learn whatever they want, when they want, wherever they are.

In 2022, we have reached 221 millions of people doing MOOC (Massive open online course) and we will reach 271M in 2023.

Web2 online education has grown but it faces engagement issues.

Learning processes are a mess.

We believe that learning processes need to change. The current methodology is outdated, boring, and no longer engaging.

Nowadays, knowledge transmission remains largely the same as it was a hundred years ago: attending a class, listening to the teacher, and taking notes.

It’s a very vertical approach without much interaction, stimulation, or enjoyment. Sometimes there may be exercises at the end of the lesson to check understanding.

However, such methods can be boring and not very engaging, leading to poor attention and learning efficiency.

The learning process of today’s generation has evolved. However, methods and learning patterns themselves have never evolved.

Studies show that our attention is at its highest after 25 minutes and then, our focus starts declining.

On the other hand, other studies show +81% retention when learning with gamification. People learn better when they feel like they are playing and having fun.

This is a real problem when most of online courses are long form of courses and not engaging.

We believe that the perfect combo is : Short, Interactive and Fun courses!

The rising of social network and short forms of content have affected our attention.

A term that is often used to describe this current generation : the TikTok generation. Dopamine hits brain much more frequently and disturb focus window.

Therefore, you are less likely to focus on a long subject than before and you need to be stimulated. This is affecting learning results.

How can we fix this?

We believe that education has to be Open and Accessible to anyone. Even today, accessibility to learning is unequal due to finances, geographical position, etc…

Education has to be Free, Gamified and Incentivized.

Free: Accessibility to learning has to be available for anyone, at any time, no matter where you live or who you are.

Learning does not have to be for the elite.

More than being free, learning has to be accessible from anywhere, no matter the device or place you are in.

Gamified: Learning should be fun. We learn better when we are engaged in the activity.

When you fail in a game, you learn from what you did wrong and try again until you reach your goal. The learning process is constant and fun.

To gamified learning processes you can create a point system, levels, leaderboards, or challenges that allow learners to earn points, unlock achievements, or compete with others.

This fosters a sense of competition and accomplishment, motivating learners to actively participate.

Incentivized : The traditional education system is built around the idea of a one-size-fits-all approach.

You can’t be incentivized with these kind of learning processes.

To incentivized you can offer tangible rewards or recognition for achieving specific learning goals. Recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of learners (publicly or not).

Personalized learning paths. Allowing learners to have some control over their learning journey. Offer a variety of learning options, such as different courses, modules, or projects, and let them choose what aligns with their interests and goals.

Proof Of Achievement

Blockchain lets you mint your own proof of achievement. These are on-chain credentials or collectibles that prove you attempted and succeed in a course.

Diplomas are proof of authority given by institutions. They show corporates that you are qualified.

People are more interested in skills and experiences than studies that you’ve done.

The future is not in Diplomas.

The future is in On-Chain Credentials.

In web3, your reputation is built on provable micro-tasks that can be authenticated on-chain.

You will soon be able to track your progress, prove that you learn new skills thanks to Credentials, and prove that you have skills thanks to the provable tasks you did on-chain!

This leads us to a new Era of Open Learning.

Web2 has improved the accessibility of Education.
