One thing that stands out about a record deal is that it is strictly business. People usually see been signed into a record label as an escape route from their struggle as an up and coming artiste.

Let me tell you what a record label does basically for an artiste;

They Give the Best Environment to do your Music:

When you are signed in by a label, you have the leverage of concentrating fully on your music; it's a full time job. You go to the studio like you're going to the office.

They give you a car, a house, an interview and all that you need to be comfortable. Why? So you can be comfortable doing the job. What's the job - singing or instrumentation.

It's Strictly Business:

Many young musicians miss it when they hear a record deal. They often make the mistake of jumping right into the deal without properly thinking about the consequences or the modus operandi of the deal. One thing is to ensure to carefully read through the contract before signing it.

The Implication of this is that your talent is now treated as your work. Also, you're making money for the company, so you go all out; you are the company's investment, and investments yield profits.

The Place of Research in SongWriting

What is Song Writing?

Songwriting is the act of creating words to accompany musical noises. It is a talent designated for those who are extremely clever.

Despite the fact that it is considered to be one of the easiest tasks for an artistically inclined individual to do. And this is due to the reality that music is made up of only two basic components: tone and time. As a result, the considered professional believes that he or she can pass as a songwriter because he or she has a complete understanding of pitch manipulation verbally or with other types of instruments, and because he or she knows how to manipulate the said pitch with respect to time (rhythm).

Because of this misinterpretation, a large number of ineffective songs have been created. This is because the supposed songs are lacking in critical components such as research. The very sound of the term seems exhausting, as it implies a never-ending process: the process of seeking. Repetition in a search indicates that great attention is taken to locate the desired results.

You don’t have to be the singer of the tunes to earn money in the music business; songwriting is an appealing substitute. It’s a sad truth, but not all of your favorite tracks were penned by your favorite performer.Songwriters aren’t the only creative talent signed by record companies. Why? They know that no one individual can do everything on their own and that success requires cooperation.

The only true difference is that the songwriters behind your best tracks almost never take credit for their work. You can think of them as ghostwriters who add to outstanding works but receive no recognition for their efforts because they choose to sell their image in return for an amount of money. Consider them to be people who contribute to outstanding works but receive no recognition for their efforts. Many people may have overlooked it, but it’s actually a profitable method to earn money covertly in the music business.

To get to this point, it is intricate that you know your onions, one of which is how to use research as a tool to your advantage as a songwriter. But before then, let’s take a look at what research is in itself.

What is Research?

Research is the process of systematically gathering information and studying existing data to form new ideas. To put it another way, research is an inventive and systematic endeavour that is made to increase the existing bodies of knowledge. Research is the process of collecting information and examining it to learn more about a subject, with the primary goal being the elimination of potential mistakes and prejudices in the data.

You might be wondering what the relationship is between songwriting and research, well it’s a question that should cross your mind since research is mostly associated with the process of scientific expeditions. As a songwriter, one thing that should guide your writing process is the fact you are writing to communicate, which is what music in itself is about generally; you should be able to send the message across to the audience irrespective of the intervention of other musical instruments.

As a Songwriter What are the things to Research on?

Contrary to popular belief, creating works of art requires a certain level of skill in addition to a certain level of intellect. The same is true for the creative process of songwriting; thus, if you want to build a name for yourself, you must take things carefully and execute at the greatest level possible under all conditions.

Studying is essential to becoming proficient in any kind of writing, and composing songs is no exception. Remember that the audience will listen to whatever it is that you choose to disseminate at all times. They will tune in no matter what. Effective communication is now not only a fundamental principle of music and the arts in general, but also a responsibility that is placed on the shoulders of those who produce it. So make sure that the listeners will be able to grasp the content of whatever it is that you intend to write as a song.

I know you’re wondering what you are supposed to research about as a songwriter, which is why I am here to put you through. Below are a few that I think would help raise your songwriting up a notch.

The Subject Matter:

At the outset, the most important items. Investigating something is like attempting to solve a puzzle. If you really want to know the solution to a query, there’s nothing stopping you from doing whatever it takes to discover it. In this instance, you want to convey information to your audience in a manner that is as relaxing as possible. Why? No one can claim to have been the first to pen a ballad about heartbreak, battle, or salvation. In other words, you’ll need to do something new if you want them to listen to you. What would set you apart from the crowd? Information. Where do you go to get it? Research.

So what exactly are you writing about? Just like academic research, you have no right to write about a subject matter if you know nothing about it; you should at least be in the field to have the right to write about it. Picture yourself attempting to pen a song about love with a faulty viewpoint. There is no way around the fact that your display will be inaccurate. That means that whatever you give to the people will become a symbol of affection in their eyes. It is important to keep in mind the psychic weight of music, as it serves as a means by which the words can penetrate more deeply into a man’s soul. For this reason, it should come as no surprise that Socrates proclaimed music to be the quickest route to the human spirit.

The Language/Tone:

There is a language used in every genre of literature. To this end, it is important, beyond the musicality of the words themselves, to know what to write in order to inspire action. Your words are what would transport the subject matter, exposing it in its purest form to your audience, although there is a portion where you need to choose the correct set of notes to communicate the message. Music’s harmonies are like words, and when they’re played over and over again, they form a sequence that can be thought of as a phrase. Choosing the best terms to express yourself is as important as figuring out the best structure for your work.

Your words are what would transport the subject matter, exposing it in its purest form to your audience…

In addition, you cannot afford to compose a love song for a woman in the same manner as a song that encourages love in the community. This is because the two types of songs require very different approaches. They each approach the topic of attachment from their own unique vantage point.

Moreso, like how a regard for the reader’s time is ensured by well-researched writing. Incorrect information and unconvincing reasoning bore the viewer. Songwriters who put in the time and effort to properly investigate and show their songs to the public can expect to attract a dedicated fan base. In the pursuit of writing a significant song, some songwriters will go so far as to change their daily routines and even embark on trips to far-flung locations in the hope of resonating more deeply with their inner creative selves and eliciting the inspiration necessary to write a memorable tune.

You don’t have to do all the heavy lifting on your own if you choose to collaborate with a songwriter rather than taking on the task all by yourself. Some people go as far as trying their hand at music production, only to come back with a recording that is poorly written or defective in some other way. But that should be saved for another article.

Conclusion

When you’ve done your homework as a composer, you’ll have a composition that’s full of depth and emotion because you’ll know how to introduce the subject simply without making it sound conceited. There is a need for research in nearly every area of human endeavour, including music, and it must be conducted accurately to prevent the spread of false information or interruptions in the transfer of important data. compose songs founded on solid inquiry; don’t just compose songs. Your music should do more than just make people happy; it should educate them as well. There is so much more than people would get if only they listened to the right kind of music, or hired the services of a good songwriter.

Just to add, songwriting can help you articulate your feelings, relax, make sense of tough situations, and even help you triumph over them. Creating music can be a relaxing hobby or a meaningful healing outlet.

At every point of your growth curve, you have to constantly raise the bar for yourself, so you don't go extinct. If you want to stay relevant in this word industry, you have to keep up: times are changing, innovations are coming in in their numbers by the day; new gadget are being added. You need to know these things if you must stay relevant.

It's okay to have someone ahead you look up to, but be careful not to fall into the trap of getting lost in the shadow of the said model.

I'll give you an instance:

Starting off singing, I imitated a lot of people at different intervals because of my perceived range; I wanted to expand it, but with time, I realized I couldn't sing like them because we had totally different voice types which had their limitations just as mine did.

So,

Give yourself time to grow, evolve, and become you. This doesn't mean you'll slack and drag yourself through your becoming process, but make sure it's at a pace you can stretch yourself with and not get cut in the process.

It's okay to sound like someone, but don't remain that someone.

Everytime you make a mistake running that riff or scale on your instrument, it shows that you weren't ready. The failure is not because you didn't rehearse the leaks, scales, chords, riff, or run.

So what's the real question ? Where did you miss it?

So here's a tip:

Why not break your rehearsals into bits rather than do them in large chunks. That way, you'll be more effective with your routine.

When you play or sing a song intentionally, it's internalised, and becomes a part of you. And when you have to do it again, it's a flow!

Don't just practice, practice intentionally.

John is a highly skilled drummer but everybody prefers his twin Jonna to play for a live recording. John couldn't get it; he had put in so much work while they learned the instrument at a very tender age. He could fissile in hemi-semi-quavers in a quaver; man was faster than Usain Bolt's legs with his sticks on the drums.

After a session one day, he decided to speak to their boss at the studio: "why don't I get to play in live recordings like my brother" he managed to squeeze rye word into the silence they had during their conversation. The boss stared intently at him for a while and asked if he really wanted to know. He nodded affirmative, and boss took a deep sigh and let the words out: "He's more disciplined than you are". John couldn't get it, he tried processing it. " But I'm faster, more innovative, more dexterous, expressive, and ..." He lifted up his eyes, and boss was miles away.

Discipline as a musician is what makes you different from the other; it is what makes you stay with the given part even when you could have done something extra, it is what makes you play the redundant chords and not make it complex, it is what makes you hold on to the groove as a bassist and not be all over the place. I could go on and on, but let me say, that being disciplined doesn't make you boring. Rather, it is you saying I know how to do this, but I'll put it where it ought to be.

Be disciplined even in your process; take it block by block.

When a lot of persons hear the word block chain, the almost next thought that comes to mind is crypto and bitcoin literarily hops on the boat of the unknown. As much as the two terms seem very a like and familiar, there is quite a difference in the two words. Here in this article, you’ll learn the difference between the two words and how it works.

IT ALL STARTED WITH MONEY.

Money is an essential commodity to humanity beyond the notes and coin; it is how we live. We live by giving what we have for what we want; we exchange value for what kind of value we want (which we live by). As the world evolved, there began to be diversification of the kinds of money we use and that was how currencies were birthed and today we have some many currencies in the world used by different countries: ranging from Pound to Euro, Dollar to Yen and the list goes on; there are even varieties of the Dollar currency too, but that is not the purpose of this article. The Hierarchy

Well, if you read the recommended article, I guess you must have had a sneak pick into how the money thing works. So I’ll just jump right in, but I’ll leave you a trial so what you just read doesn’t just fall off your head a we journey through what this term block chain actually is. So here goes: First we have MONEY, then we have CURRENCY, and then there is a diversification of currency which we call CRYPTO CURRENCY which in itself gives its meaning away — an encrypted currency. How is this done ? you may ask, by Encrypting which is a method called Cryptography.

What is Cryptography ?

It is a collation of binary data that works as a medium of exchange (money). This does not exist in physical form like the normal currencies we carry about in our purses or go to withdraw in banks, rather it uses a decentralised control system and is a tradable digital asset or digital form of money that is distributed through a ledger community called BLOCK CHAIN.

What is Block Chain ?

Well, as earlier said, it is a ledger technology that records all transactions of Cryptocurrency such that they never get lost, and that means accountability is intact. The implication of this is that no crypto coin can go missing since it is a digital currency that stores all transaction information and also a track record of the cryptocurrency that goes round; you are sure that it is the same cryptocurrency that was minted that is still going round to everyone, unlike the paper and physical coin that can go missing and unaccounted for.

One notable thing about how the computer works is the GIGO principle, otherwise known as Garbage In Garbage Out principle; this means that what you put in is what you get as your end result (even in cases were you get more or less, the only happened because you first put in something). It cannot be overemphasized that this principle cuts across all areas in life, from education, to marriage, to business, and even in our health; everything works in a cycle.

On seeing this, you must have probably thought about jus buying and selling cryptocurrency, and also think about the Forex market works and all of that. In as much as that is true, here we’ll be taking a toll on how to attract customers to yourself in the crypto space; good thing is, this will not only be useful in the crypto space,but also in business generally (this is business isn’t it ?).

What should you put in ?

It’s very simple you know, it’s called value. Value is what makes people different in the an organisation and in business today. It is what makes a newbie bypass the ancient in an establishment to the top and leave them hanging in the tread. When looking for a job firs off ask yourself a simple question of:

What can I Offer:

You do not expect to be paid for a job (crypto or physical), if you have nothing to offer the establishment or project. You need to offer something to get something back in return; sometimes it’s an idea, sometimes it’s sales, and the list goes on and on and is endless. You don’t need to be the owner of the business you know, this shows that you have empathy and it puts you in a position of trust before your employer.

What am I being offered ?

What are you going to get in return ? What is the stakes like ? It might sound selfish, but then we are dealing with Gigo here; so it would be unfair to deal with the “in” and leave the “out”. Think of the consequence of what you’re doing if it’s worth. In some cases, you might be underpaid, but you might have to go through with the future benefits.

The point of all these is that you weigh your odds before you go ahead; be sure you can meet the target, and be sure you’ll get you ought to. The worst thing to do is to work grumbling, because this will playout in your work (whatever it is).
