Steve Jobs

(English below)

Cover

Evtents

Resources

Mentorship

Speaking Engagements

Google

Women Thriving in Tech.

A New Chapter: Seven Years with Women Techmakers, Moving Beyond Google

Since 2013, Women Techmakers (WTM) Ambassadors have powered thousands of tech events globally, inspiring and connecting a strong network of women in technology. WTM itself was a non-profit initiative launched by Googlers back in 2012 with a simple but powerful goal: to create an environment for women in tech rooted in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), offering a local space to gather, network, and grow together.

From its founding, WTM underwent several major organizational shifts and identity changes within Google. Notably, between 2014 and 2017, it was parked under the Google Developer Groups (GDG) Program — a kind of subsidiary relationship where WTM only existed when a GDG did. The pivotal change came in 2018, moving the structure from a team-led model to one centered on the individual Ambassador. This shift gave individuals huge autonomy, allowing a single Ambassador to drive and decide on many local activities.

I was lucky enough to join in early 2018, right at that turning point, and seven years have simply flown by. I embraced this new model, taking the initiative to organize countless gatherings and events of all sizes here in Taiwan.

Since 2020, we’ve had to fill out a follow-up form after every single event to maintain our Ambassador status. At first, it felt like tedious admin work. However, looking at the data I’ve accumulated over time, it’s become my most treasured “report card”:

My WTM Impact

Here’s a snapshot of what I’ve accomplished since the formal tracking began in 2020:

Events: I have submitted a total of 112 events, with nearly 4,900 attendees. I was also able to invite 1,100 speakers to share their experience at my events.

Events

Resources: Being non-technical, my “Resources” entry — for articles or GitHub contributions — is zero, but I poured all my energy into community building and mentorship.

Resources

Mentorship: I’ve dedicated 191 hours to mentorship, guiding others in their journeys.

Mentorship

Speaking Engagements: Seeing the public speaking record was a genuine surprise. Ultimately, the program decided to part ways with Google headquarters on October 6, 2025, and is being transitioned to Technovation.org, an international non-profit organization. This marks the official end of WTM’s era under Google’s management.

Reflecting on my seven years with WTM, I’ve seen the community grow from a little-known program into a name recognized by nearly everyone in the tech community. From a solo effort to mobilizing thousands of participants, I feel an immense sense of accomplishment and pride. While the future direction of WTM under its new steward is uncertain, and I’m still deciding if I’ll continue my role, these seven years remain a huge personal milestone and a lasting footprint in the history of the tech community here.

Another WTM-Related Article: Women Thriving in Tech.

最近讀到《A Day Magazine》的一篇報導 — —

👉 NETFLIX Wonderland Movie Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJFDkqC5tk4&t=7s

(上) was originally published in ∅User eXperience on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

It’s about how we navigate, the choices we make, and our willingness to reignite our inner boosters when it matters most.

⸻

Liftoff: Where It All Begins — Family & Early Foundations

When a space shuttle first lifts off, it depends on the immense power of its main engines and solid rocket boosters to overcome Earth’s gravity.

It’s a powerful surge — loud, intense, and not entirely within its control.

This experience is quite similar to the beginning of our lives.

We are propelled by the foundational forces of family, education, and the society we are born into. We don’t get to choose these forces; we absorb, react, and adapt.

However, these early influences — no matter how invisible or unquestioned — become the core fuel that shapes our foundational beliefs, patterns, and sense of self.

⸻

First Stage Burn: Growth, Identity & the Power of Choice

After a rocket completes its first stage burn, the boosters fall away. At that moment, the vehicle begins to rely on its momentum to move forward.

In life, we all experience a similar moment — the stage when we start asking ourselves, “Which direction do I want to go?”

For many, this realization occurs during adolescence, as we begin to feel the first spark of awareness that we do not have to become what others expect of us. We have a choice.

Should I pursue vocational training? Stay on the academic track? Or take the unconventional path just to see where it leads?

This marks the beginning of self-driven flight — scary, liberating, and unforgettable.

⸻

Second Stage Burn: Career Formation & Personal Trajectory

This is where higher acceleration and alignment come into play, ensuring that the payload reaches its intended orbit.

In reality, this represents the moments when we enter college, step into the workforce, start a business, or engage in deeper self-exploration. It’s no longer just about finding direction; it becomes a quest for clarity:

“Where do I shine?”

You may be developing new skills, but you might also experience the unsettling feeling of “not enough fuel” or the uncertainty of being off course.

This stage demands more from you, because now you’re not just in motion; you’re aiming for something.

⸻

Payload Deployment: Independent Orbit & Social Identity

The moment a spacecraft enters its true orbit, it separates from the rocket and begins navigating on its own.

In life, this is akin to the moment we stop relying on our parents, take on responsibility, start defining who we are, and begin making our impact.

But here’s the real question:
Have you truly chosen your orbit, or are you merely following a trajectory that was set for you?

⸻

Orbital Maneuvering & Mission Execution: Soul Re-navigation, Realignment, and Redefining Meaning

In space, no journey remains fixed. Whether it’s docking with the International Space Station or heading toward distant galaxies, course adjustments are always part of the mission.

You may have once believed you’d found the perfect trajectory, but as time passes, the external landscape shifts, and your internal world changes too.

When your propulsion starts to slow and you long to go farther, the answer isn’t to push harder — it’s to realign your orbit.

This moment often brings self-doubt. It may feel like a plateau, a breakdown, or a quiet of loss.

However, it’s also a turning point.

You may begin to ask yourself:
Is this still the direction I truly want to go?
Am I willing to release my past version and redefine who I’m becoming?

⸻

Even in a well-planned mission, there’s no such thing as complete certainty in space. The journey always comes with unknowns.

⸻

Guidance System: Mentorship, Learning & Course Correction

A space shuttle without a guidance system will drift endlessly through space.

Similarly, if our life is without direction, we often find ourselves wandering, uncertain, and stuck between choices.

The guidance system is built on mentors, learning, mistakes, course corrections, and sometimes… just time. It also resides within us — a quiet inner compass shaped by our experiences and reflections.

Every crash and every wrong turn isn’t the end; it’s an invitation to recalibrate.

So, ask yourself: Have you found your guidance system?

⸻

Fuel & Resources: Skills, Knowledge, and Connection

A space shuttle doesn’t operate solely on thrust; it also requires a consistent supply of fuel to maintain its motion.

Similarly, in life, our “fuel” consists of the skills we develop, the knowledge we acquire, and the relationships we cultivate.

We replenish our energy by learning, growing, expanding our networks, and gaining real-world experience. This enables us to keep moving forward rather than stalling when we run low on energy.

⸻

External Conditions: Challenge & Uncertainty

Even with the best navigation systems and plenty of fuel, a space shuttle is still affected by external forces, such as gravity shifts, solar winds, and cosmic debris. Any one of these factors can subtly or suddenly alter its path.

Similarly, our life journey is rarely smooth. Changes in the world around us, competition at work, or unexpected events can all throw us off balance.

These external conditions are real and unpredictable, and they influence how we move, respond, and adapt.

So, here’s a deeper question:
Are we truly choosing our direction, or are we merely a product of the environment we navigate through?

⸻

Right now, in the vastness of your life’s journey —
Where is your spacecraft drifting, steering, or recalibrating?

Who am I?
What orbit am I currently in?
Am I flying steadily, or am I preparing for a course correction?
And… do I still want to move forward?

There are no right answers to these questions.

But remember this:
You always have the power to choose.
Any moment, you can ignite the engines, reboot your mission, and set a new course.

Life Journey Map

Life is a shuttle mission.

(English below)

“Your job is not always going to fulfill you. There will be some days that you just might be bored. Other days, you may not feel like going to work at all. Go anyway. And remember that your job is not who you are. It’s just what you’re doing on the way to who you will become.”

Many of life’s experiences may seem unrelated in the moment, but when we look back, we realize those dots were all connected — and they shaped who we are today. This is a theory of Connecting the Dots from Steve Jobs, who spoke in 2005 at Stanford graduation.

Steve Jobs shared that after dropping out of college, he randomly enrolled in a calligraphy class. It seemed to have no practical use at that time. Years later, that class influenced the design of the first Mac, making it the first personal computer with beautiful fonts and elegant typography.

He said, “If I had never dropped in on that single college course, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts.”

And that’s why he famously said:

You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.

This idea doesn’t just apply to life choices — it also holds in our careers.
Every job we take, every challenge we face, even every moment of uncertainty, may one day become a critical piece of the bigger puzzle.
We can’t see the full picture while we’re still in it.

⸻

I wouldn’t be who I am today without the friends, mentors, and loved ones who supported me at every stage — growing up, studying abroad, my career, and building communities. Some appeared briefly but showed up exactly when I needed them. Others stayed and shaped me in ways I’ll never forget.

If it weren’t for the senior engineer who said something bad to me, I wouldn’t have had the motivation to push myself forward. My tech mentor did more than support me. He laid the foundation of my technical knowledge by patiently walking me through software architecture and development principles. I asked him, “Why are you so willing to teach me all this?” He replied, “Because I want you to surpass me someday.” I was stunned and thought: “Wow. That’s such a powerful idea — who teaches a total stranger, hoping they’ll outshine you?”

Although I didn’t end up pursuing a career in backend development, I’ve applied what I learned in that field to UX, workplace, AI/digital transformation, community building, and even personal growth.

I thought I’d follow a “standard” career path — a path that could be predictable, linear, and safe. Somehow, I stand on giants, seeing the world from unexpected angles, and exploring career paths I never imagined I’d take.

These journeys taught me more than I could’ve planned for.

And finally, I may have found that I’d been searching for a solution to the missing piece to a dream I hadn’t yet finished.

⸻

Oprah Winfrey said during her commencement speech at the USC Annenberg School for Communication:

Your job is not who you are. It’s just what you’re doing on the way to becoming who you’re meant to be. (This quote, translated by CommonWealth Magazine in Taiwan)

The original:

Your job is not always going to fulfill you. There will be some days that you just might be bored. Other days, you may not feel like going to work at all. Go anyway. And remember that your job is not who you are. It’s just what you’re doing on the way to who you will become.

This perspective encourages us to view our careers through a long-term lens — not to get stuck in short-term frustrations or emotions, but to stay focused on growth, transformation, and the person we’re becoming.

So,
🌀 What are the dots you’re connecting?
🌀 Who are the people and moments that have shaped who you are today?
🌀 And what does career growth mean to you, not just professionally, but personally?

fly

Connecting the Dots: How Every Step Led Me Here was originally published in ∅User eXperience on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

(English below)

電影《型男飛行日誌》 (Up in the Air) 有句令人印象深刻的台詞： “How much did they first pay you to give up on your dream?”「他們當初給你多少薪水，讓你放棄了夢想？」

A quote in the film Up in the Air: “How much did they first pay you to give up on your dream?”

My first dream came when I was ten.

I was in the 5th grade when I read a magazine that sparked something deep in me: I wanted to become a designer of experiences — someone who makes life smoother, more thoughtful, more human. At that time, I had no idea it was called “User Experience.” And I didn’t know this path would be the key to the heart of digital and AI transformation.

⸻

The path to your dreams is never a straight line.

In school, I didn’t get good grades. The education system follows the “right” answer, and I always think out of the box. Therefore, teachers often called me a “slow learner” and a “stupid student.” Eventually, I stopped dreaming when I studied in Taiwan. It wasn’t until I studied abroad that my perspective cracked open — and I reconnected with that childhood spark.

Life in a university, I didn’t like programming. However, I became a backend engineer when I was new to the workforce. Ironically, that detour became one of the most valuable assets in my UX journey.

⸻

Early in my career, I was hit with my hardest challenge.

One day, a senior engineer yelled at me across the office: “Why are you even here? If you don’t know how to code!” I was humiliated, but I don’t want to give up.

The next day, I became the first to arrive and the last to leave, every day for a year. I arrived at 6 a.m. and left the office at midnight. Later, that same engineer looked at me and said, “You’ve gotten good.” I smiled.

That chapter gave me more than coding skills — it built the core technical fluency I now rely on in UX, and revealed how tightly design and development are intertwined.

⸻

UX isn’t just about design. It’s about impact.

Digital and AI transformation continue to reshape industries, and UX has taken on a new level of strategic importance.

I’ve personally witnessed how UX thinking has influenced decisions at the highest levels — including C-suites and boardrooms.

That brings a sense of fulfillment, but what amazes me even more is this: The dream comes true is no longer just a dream when I studied in elementary school. It’s the time that’s helping people interact with technology.

To me, UX isn’t just about user experience — it’s about redesigning how humans connect with the world.

⸻

Someone asked me: “Have you already achieved your dreams?”

I answered, “Most of them, yes. But there are still two more…”

Those two are just starting to take flight. These dreams aren’t just about me — they’re about helping more people understand the true value of experience design, and about bringing technology and humanity closer together in this era of digital and AI transformation.

So,
✨ What’s your dream?
✨ Are you on the path to it?
✨ Or have you traded it away — for a job, a title, a salary?

what’s your dream?

Did You Trade Your Dream for a Paycheck? was originally published in ∅User eXperience on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

I never actively chased recognition or opportunity. But I’ve learned that when you’re truly invested in something, the world has a way of responding.

⸻

From Sharing Ideas to Unexpected Invitations.

In 2023, I hosted a Women Techmakers (WTM) event at AIT in Songshan Cultural Park. She even welcomed having a conversation with her team and going deeper.

At the time, I felt I wasn’t ready to dive into it; therefore, I didn’t follow up. I thought she was telling me to shrink my dreams.

Years later, I realized what she meant: “Everything has its rhythm. True growth doesn’t come from chasing — it comes from grounding.”

Months later, I was also contacted by Headline Asia (VC) and NVIDIA about potential collaborations. Those two don’t make it, but they affirmed one thing: I’m on the right path.

⸻

The World Responds When You’re Ready.

People ask me often, “How do you influence decision-makers at work?”

Honestly, I don’t try to change anyone and don’t chase anything.
