Realityjam’s Industry Access Scholarship program is unique new career launchpad for UK game developers and artists, offering a new pathway to games industry careers.

From next Monday aspiring game developers and game creators in the UK can apply to join Realityjam’s Scion scholarship program which will grant membership in the ‘Scion’ Foundation’ Training Program free of charge to Unity Learn users. This opportunity means that the regular cost of £4740 required to join the program is fully funded by Realityjam, democratizing access.

During the Scion Foundation program members work on high quality MMO games by building and publishing monetized game assets like skins, maps, characters and vehicles inside free to play MMO’s.

This grounds the learning experience in real, industrial work, done in s studios setting, on high quality multiplayer titles.

90% of the revenue generated by these assets is earned by the creators who made them, creating a shared ownership model that empowers program members to earn up to £10k per year.

Program members will be credited for their work, with members names included in the published credits for the games they work on, elevating their professional profiles.

Following successful completion, members are invited to apply to join Realityjam’s 12 month apprenticeship program as an apprentice game artist or developer, creating a direct pathway to full time employment with Realityjam studio or one of Realityjam’s partner game studios.

During the apprenticeship, participants will also qualify for a Unity Associate Certification, providing a globally recognized industry qualification that boosts the professional quality of Industry Access Program members.

To be eligible to apply for a scholarship you must have earned at least 600xp on the Unity Learn platform, or published a game on Unity Play, Unity’s own indie game marketplace. You’ll also need a high quality portfolio of game related work, either personal or professional projects.

The games industry has a talent pipeline problem, not a shortage of talented people, but a shortage of genuine pathways for them lauch their careers and find work.

Realityjam’s Industry Access Program was built in response to that gap. We’re a game studio and development platform focused on expanding what’s possible for the next generation of creators, coders and artists. Not through rhetoric, but through practical, structured routes into real industry work.

The UK games industry is growing. The demand for skilled developers, technical artists and interactive storytellers has never been higher. And yet meaningful access remains frustratingly narrow, shaped by educational institutions that often fail to bridge the gap between learning and employment, and an industry culture that has historically been slow to open its doors to new voices.

We think that needs to change. And we’re trying to do something about it.

The Industry Access Program

Realityjam’s Industry Access Program is designed around a simple idea: the best way to prepare for a career in games is to actually make them.

The program begins with our Scion Foundation Training (SFT), an intensive 12-month course developed in partnership with Unity. It covers game development, 3D content creation and interactive storytelling, and from day one, participants are contributing to live, in-production MMO titles. This isn’t a simulation of industry work. It’s the real thing.

Course cost: £395 per month over 12 months, paid at commencement. Full and part scholarships are available.

Addressing the Gender Gap

This year’s GDC State of the Industry Report found that women represent just 24% of the games workforce. That’s a figure worth sitting with.

To help shift that balance in a meaningful way, 40% of SFT places are reserved for women. We’re not interested in tokenism, we’re interested in building a cohort that better reflects the breadth of people who love and play games, and in creating an environment where that diversity strengthens the work everyone produces.

From Training to Employment

Completing the SFT isn’t the end, it’s the transition point. Graduates move into the Adeptus Apprenticeship Program (AAP), a 12-month paid graduate apprenticeship with a guaranteed role working four days per week on MMO titles.

Apprentices specialise in one of two tracks:

• Junior Tech Artist, 3D art and game content creation
• Junior Gameplay Developer, development, coding and scripting

Work happens in teams of five, Guilds, who collaborate throughout the year to build a level within a live MMO game. The program runs on Agile methodology, with success defined by the quality of what you produce rather than the hours you log. We think that’s a more honest way to measure contribution, and a better preparation for how the industry actually operates.

Compensation: £17,000 base wage (part-time, 4 days per week), plus holiday pay, pension and commission, with total earnings of up to £22,000 annually.

The Industry Access Program is demanding by design. The games industry moves fast, operates under pressure, and rewards people who can think independently and adapt quickly. We try to be upfront about that from the start.
