¡Hola, hola, creadores y soñadores!

Hoy vengo a hablarles sobre un tema que siempre ha generado debates tan apasionados como las batallas épicas de nuestros cómics y mangas favoritos: la ilustración digital vs la tradicional. Ya sé, ya sé… cada uno tiene su guerrilla y sus fanáticos, pero al final, lo importante es cómo podemos expresarnos y plasmar ideas al estilo único de cada uno.

Hace poco, mientras trazaba algunos bocetos para mi próximo proyecto, me puse a pensar en cómo han evolucionado las técnicas. Durante años, me sumergí en las tradiciones del dibujo a mano, sintiendo la magia de cada trazo en papel y la calidez de las texturas, mientras que más recientemente, la tecnología me abrió un mundo infinito de posibilidades en la ilustración digital. ¿Y ustedes? ¿A qué lado del ring se ubican?

Antes que nada, analicemos los pros y contras de cada una:

Ilustración Tradicional
------------------------

Pros:
• Conexión Orgánica: No hay nada como sentir el papel, la textura de un pincel o el trazo de un lápiz. Esa sensación táctil es casi mística. Cada trazo se vuelve único, irrepetible y, en cierto sentido, lleno de alma.
• Originalidad y Experimentación: Cuando dibujamos a mano, a veces el error se convierte en una oportunidad para crear una nueva expresión. Un salpicón de tinta o un trazo inesperado pueden darle un toque auténtico a la obra.
• Sin Dependencia Tecnológica: No necesitas una computadora de última generación o programas costosos. Solo precisas tus herramientas básicas, una hoja en blanco y toda tu creatividad.

Contras:
• Correcciones Complicadas: Cuando algo no sale como planeabas, borrar y reacomodar puede ser frustrante. Aunque tienes correctores y nuevas hojas, la sensación de “volver a empezar” puede desgastarte un poco.
• Logística y Almacenamiento: Las obras, una vez terminadas, requieren un cuidado especial para preservarlas. Además, transportar materiales y mantenerlos en buen estado puede convertirse en una tarea extra para el artista.
• Limitaciones de Recursos: Si bien la diversidad de técnicas es amplia, ciertas herramientas pueden ser costosas o difíciles de conseguir, según el lugar donde vivas.

Ilustración Digital
--------------------

Pros:
• Flexibilidad y Control: La posibilidad de deshacer un trazo con un simple “Ctrl + Z” es un verdadero salvavidas. Además, las capas nos permiten separar elementos y trabajar con total libertad sin miedo a arruinar todo el trabajo.
• Acceso a Herramientas Innovadoras: Programas como Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, entre otros, ofrecen pinceles, texturas y efectos infinitos que pueden hacer que nuestras ilustraciones sean únicas.
• Fácil Compartir y Modificar: Desde compartir en redes o enviar a impresoras, el entorno digital facilita la adaptación a distintos formatos y la corrección de errores sin tanto esfuerzo.

Contras:
• Curva de Aprendizaje: No es barato ni sencillo dominar todas estas herramientas digitales. Se requiere tiempo, paciencia y práctica para saber aprovechar al máximo cada función.
• Dependencia de la Tecnología: Un fallo de software, la pérdida de datos o problemas técnicos pueden ser una pesadilla para aquellos que confían plenamente en lo digital.
• Sensación “Fría”: A veces, no se logra replicar la calidez y el carácter único del trazo a mano. Muchos artistas extrañan el “feeling” natural que solo ofrece el dibujo tradicional.

Cada técnica tiene su magia, y la verdad es que no hay una “mejor” que la otra, sino que depende de lo que tú, como ilustrador o creador de cómics y manga, quieras transmitir. Yo, por ejemplo, disfruto mezclándolas. A veces comienzo con bocetos a mano para sentir verdaderamente el flujo creativo, y después digitalizo todo para pulir detalles y agregar efectos que en el papel no se podrían lograr de la misma forma.

Esta fusión de métodos me permite aprovechar lo mejor de ambos mundos. Y, si bien al principio puede parecer un choque entre dos filosofías opuestas, junto se complementan de forma magnífica, enriqueciendo la calidad y versatilidad de nuestras obras.

En el mundo de la ilustración, lo vital es que mantengamos siempre la pasión y la capacidad de innovación. Tanto si prefieres el encanto del trazo tradicional como la inmediatez del mundo digital, lo importante es que cada obra cuente una historia. No se trata solo de herramientas, sino de cómo estas nos ayudan a expresar aquello que llevamos dentro.

Today I want to chat about a topic that has sparked debates as passionately as the epic battles in our favorite comics and manga: traditional illustration vs. digital illustration. I know, I know… each camp has its warriors and loyal fans, but in the end, what really matters is how we express ourselves and capture our unique ideas.

Not long ago, while sketching some ideas for my next project, I started thinking about how techniques have evolved. For years, I was immersed in the traditional drawing way, feeling the magic in every stroke on paper and the warmth of those textures. More recently, technology opened an endless world of possibilities with digital illustration. And you? Which side of the ring are you on?

Before diving in, let’s break down the pros and cons of each:

Traditional Illustration
------------------------

Pros:
• Organic Connection: There's nothing like feeling the paper, the texture of a brush, or the stroke of a pencil. That tactile sensation is almost magical. Every line becomes unique, unrepeatable, and, in a way, full of soul.
• Originality and Experimentation: When drawing by hand, sometimes a mistake turns into an opportunity for a new expression. A splatter of ink or an unexpected stroke can add an authentic touch to your work.
• No Tech Dependency: You don’t need a top-of-the-line computer or expensive software. All it takes are your basic tools, a blank sheet, and all your creativity.

Cons:
• Challenging Corrections: When something doesn't go as planned, erasing and reworking can be quite frustrating. Although you have erasers and new sheets, the feeling of "starting over" can be a bit disheartening.
• Logistics and Storage: Once finished, your artwork needs special care to be preserved. Plus, transporting and keeping your materials in good condition can become an extra task for the artist.
• Resource Limitations: While the range of techniques is wide, some tools can be expensive or hard to come by, depending on where you live.

Digital Illustration
--------------------

Pros:
• Flexibility and Control: The ability to undo a stroke with a quick “Ctrl + Z” is a real lifesaver. Moreover, layers allow you to separate elements and work freely without the fear of ruining the whole piece.
• Access to Innovative Tools: Programs like Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, and others offer endless brushes, textures, and effects that can make your illustrations truly unique.
• Easy to Share and Modify: Whether it’s posting on social media or sending files to a printer, the digital realm makes adapting to different formats and fixing errors much easier.

Cons:
• Learning Curve: Mastering these digital tools isn’t cheap or easy. It takes time, patience, and plenty of practice to use every function to its full potential.
• Tech Dependency: A software glitch, data loss, or technical issues can be a nightmare for those who rely entirely on digital tools.
• Cold" Feeling: Sometimes, it’s hard to replicate the warm, unique character of a hand-drawn line. Many artists miss that natural “feel” only traditional drawing can offer.

Every technique has its own magic, and there isn’t a “better” one—it all depends on what you, as an illustrator or manga and comic creator, want to express. Personally, I enjoy mixing them. Sometimes I start with hand-drawn sketches to really feel the creative flow, then I digitize everything to polish details and add effects that simply can’t be achieved on paper.

This fusion allows me to take advantage of both worlds. And while at first it might seem like a clash between two opposing philosophies, together they complement each other beautifully, enhancing both the quality and versatility of our work.

In the world of illustration, what really matters is that we keep our passion and innovative spirit alive. Whether you’re drawn to the charm of traditional strokes or the immediacy of the digital realm, remember that each piece should tell a story. It isn’t just about the tools, but how they help us express what’s inside.

Hoy quiero tocar un tema que, a mi parecer, es esencial en el camino de cualquier creativo, ilustrador, creador de cómic o fanático del manga: El poder del feedback y cómo aceptar críticas constructivas. Sí, ya sé, la palabra “feedback” suena a veces como algo frío y corporativo, pero créanme, cuando lo vemos como una herramienta para crecer y mejorar, se convierte en uno de nuestros mejores aliados.

Sé que muchos de nosotros hemos pasado momentos donde recibir una crítica nos hace sentir como si alguien estuviera destripando nuestro trabajo, pero les cuento algo: cada comentario, cada opinión es una oportunidad para afinar nuestro estilo, descubrir nuevas luces y sombras en nuestras creaciones y, en definitiva, evolucionar. Es como cuando trabajas en la hoja de expresiones de tu personaje favorito: cada boceto, cada trazo, por incómodo que parezca, te acerca a sacarle brillo a esa idea que tienes rondando en la mente.

Una de las primeras cosas que debemos aprender es a diferenciar entre la crítica destructiva y la crítica constructiva. La crítica destructiva, que a veces puede doler y hacernos sentir inseguros, no es más que un obstáculo. ¿Cuántas veces hemos pensado “¡pero si me sale tan bien esto!”? Pues bien, esa voz interna es la que debemos ignorar cuando se trata de comentarios sin fundamento. En cambio, la crítica constructiva es como ese empujón amistoso que te dice: “oye, ¿no crees que este ángulo se vería mejor si lo resaltas un poco más?” o “quizás podrías experimentar con estas técnicas de sombreado para darle más profundidad a tu ilustración”. ¡Y qué mejor que escuchar a quien conoce el tema, a quien entiende las curvas de la narrativa o las dinámicas de personajes!

Aquí les dejo algunos consejos para aprovechar al máximo el feedback:

1. Escucha activa sin defenderte de entrada
Cuando alguien te ofrece una opinión, detente un momento, respira y escucha. Muchas veces nuestra primera reacción es justificar o explicar, pero si te tomas un momento para asimilar lo que se dice, descubrirás puntos de mejora que quizá no habías notado.

2. Separa tu obra de tu persona
Es fundamental recordar que una crítica a tu trabajo no es un ataque a quién eres. Tu estilo, tus ideas y tus creaciones son parte de un proceso en constante evolución. ¡No te lo tomes como algo personal! Imagina que cada dibujo es como una página en tu manga personal: algunas se ven mejor, otras necesitan más retoques, pero todas forman parte de la gran historia.

3. Pide ejemplos específicos
Si un comentario te queda en el aire o no entiendes bien el punto de vista, ¡pregunta! A veces, nuestro interlocutor puede darte ejemplos concretos o sugerencias prácticas que te ayudarán a ver tu trabajo desde otra perspectiva. Preguntar “¿cómo crees que podría mejorar esta parte del diseño?”, puede abrir una conversación que ilumine aspectos que jamás habrías imaginado.

4. Filtra lo que no te sirve
No toda opinión tiene el mismo peso. Considera quién te da el feedback y su experiencia en el campo. Acepta lo que resuena contigo, aquello que encaja con tu estilo y visión, y deja de lado lo que simplemente no se alinea. Al final, ¡tú eres el creador! Recuerda siempre que tienes el control total de tu proceso creativo.

5. Agradece el feedback
Aunque a veces la crítica no suene a “elogio”, toma un momento para agradecer a quien te la brindó. Una respuesta sencilla como “gracias, lo tendré en cuenta” puede marcar la diferencia. Esto no solo demuestra profesionalismo, sino también apertura y humildad, dos cualidades que todos podemos aprender a incorporar en nuestro día a día como artistas.

Me he encontrado en situaciones en las que el feedback me parecía una espina, pero con el tiempo comprendí que cada análisis, cada comentario, por más difícil que fuera recibirlo, es una herramienta de aprendizaje. Recuerdo que, en algunas etapas, me costaba separar mi identidad personal de mi obra. Pero con el tiempo, hice las paces con la crítica constructiva y descubrí que mejorar mi técnica y profundizar en mis ideas se vuelve un viaje tan emocionante como crear un nuevo personaje para una serie.

Hoy, al retomar mis proyectos, me lleno de gratitud por cada opinión que recibo. Porque cada crítica es una perspectiva única, una forma distinta de ver lo que he creado. Y eso, amigos, no es más que un recordatorio de que en el mundo del arte siempre hay espacio para aprender, reinventarse y sorprenderse a uno mismo.

Así que ya saben, ¿qué les parece si la próxima vez que alguien les comente “podrías trabajar un poco más en los detalles de esa ilustración”, en lugar de sentir que les están “aplastando”, lo toman como una invitación a mejorar? Today I want to dive into a topic that I believe is essential on the journey of any creative, illustrator, comic, or manga creator: the power of feedback and how to accept constructive criticism. Yes, I know the word “feedback” sometimes sounds cold and corporate, but trust me, when we see it as a tool for growth and improvement, it becomes one of our best allies.

I know many of us have gone through moments when receiving criticism feels like someone is ripping our work apart. But let me tell you something: every comment, every opinion is an opportunity to fine-tune our style, to discover new lights and shadows in our creations, and, ultimately, to evolve. It’s like when you’re working on the expression sheet for your favorite character: every sketch, every line—even when it feels awkward—is one step closer to perfecting that idea you’ve been nurturing in your mind.

One of the first things we need to learn is the difference between destructive criticism and constructive criticism. Destructive criticism, which can sometimes hurt and make us feel insecure, is merely an obstacle. How many times have we thought, “But my work is great!”? Well, that inner voice is the one to ignore when faced with baseless opinions. On the other hand, constructive criticism is like a friendly nudge that says, “Hey, don’t you think this angle would look better if you accentuated it a bit?” or “Maybe you could experiment with these shading techniques to add more depth to your illustration.” And what could be better than listening to someone who understands the field, someone who knows the ins and outs of narrative curves or character dynamics?

Here are a few tips to make the most out of feedback:

1. Listen actively without immediately getting defensive
When someone offers you their opinion, pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and truly listen. Often, our first reaction is to justify or explain ourselves, but if you take the time to absorb what’s being said, you might discover improvement points you hadn’t noticed before.

2. Separate your work from your identity
It’s crucial to remember that criticism of your work isn’t a personal attack. Your style, your ideas, and your creations are all part of a constantly evolving process. Don’t take it personally! Imagine each drawing as a page in your personal manga: some pages stand out, while others need retouching, but every single one is a part of your grand story.

3. Ask for specific examples
If a comment feels vague or you don’t fully grasp the perspective, just ask! Sometimes the person providing feedback can give specific examples or practical suggestions that help illuminate aspects of your work you’d never considered before. Asking a question like, “How do you think I could improve this particular design element?” can open up a conversation that sheds light on areas you might not have looked at otherwise.

4. Filter out what doesn’t serve you
Not every opinion carries the same weight. Consider who is giving you the feedback and their experience in the field. Accept what resonates with you and fits your style and vision, and disregard what just doesn’t align. After all, you are the creator! Always remember that you have full control of your creative process.

5. Show gratitude for the feedback
Even if the criticism doesn’t sound like praise, take a moment to thank the person offering it. A simple response like “thanks, I’ll keep that in mind” can make a big difference. Not only does this show professionalism, but it also highlights your openness and humility—qualities we can all strive to incorporate in our daily lives as artists.

I’ve found myself in situations where feedback felt like a thorn in my side, but over time I’ve learned that every analysis, every comment—even when hard to hear—is a valuable lesson. I remember a time when separating my personal identity from my work was really challenging. But as time passed, I made peace with constructive criticism and discovered that improving my technique and deepening my ideas can be as exciting a journey as creating a brand new character for a series.

Today, as I dive back into my projects, I feel immense gratitude for every opinion I receive. Because each piece of feedback is a unique perspective and a new way of seeing what I’ve created. And that, my friends, is a reminder that in the world of art there’s always room to learn, reinvent ourselves, and surprise ourselves.

So, what do you say? The next time someone tells you, “Maybe you should work a bit more on the details of that illustration,” instead of feeling crushed, try to see it as an invitation to improve. Hoy quiero compartir un tema muy importante para todos nosotros, los creativos: cómo establecer metas realistas como artista. Sé que en algún momento te has sentido abrumado por la idea de alcanzar el éxito, y la presión de cumplir con estándares irreales puede llegar a ser desmotivadora. Sin embargo, establecer metas claras y alcanzables es esencial para avanzar en nuestro camino artístico y, sobre todo, para aprender a disfrutar del proceso sin agobios.

Al principio de cualquier carrera artística, es normal soñar en grande y querer conquistar el mundo con tus ideas. Pero, como bien sabes, el arte es un viaje lleno de altibajos, y lo ideal es trazar objetivos que se adapten a tu realidad y te impulsen a mejorar poco a poco. Imagina que cada meta es un peldaño que te acerca a tus aspiraciones a largo plazo, y que lo importante es dar el siguiente paso, sin importar lo pequeño que parezca.

Lo primero es definir qué quieres lograr. ¿Quieres mejorar tu técnica en el manejo del color? ¿Deseas perfeccionar la anatomía de tus personajes o encontrar un estilo personal que te identifique? Sea cual sea tu objetivo, es fundamental ser específico y detallado. En lugar de decir “quiero ser mejor dibujando”, define algo como “voy a practicar y dominar la representación de expresiones faciales durante el próximo mes”. Al plantear la meta de esta manera, te darás cuenta de que cada día de práctica te acerca un poco más a lo que deseas.

Una vez que tengas definido tu objetivo específico, divide tu meta a largo plazo en pequeñas metas a corto plazo. Por ejemplo, si tu sueño es desarrollar una serie de ilustraciones que cuenten una historia, empieza por esbozar la idea general y luego trabaja, paso a paso, en cada uno de los personajes y escenas. Estos “micro-objetivos” son la clave para mantener la motivación y, al mismo tiempo, permiten ajustes en el camino. Recuerda que el éxito no se construye de un día para otro, sino con esfuerzo y constancia.

Establecer un calendario o una rutina también es crucial. La organización te ayudará a asignar tiempos específicos para trabajar en cada meta, sin dejarte llevar por la procrastinación. Crea un plan semanal o mensual que incluya tanto prácticas técnicas como momentos de revisión y reflexión. Es útil utilizar herramientas como agendas, aplicaciones de seguimiento de metas o simplemente una pizarra en donde anotar tus logros diarios. Así, cuando mires hacia atrás, verás cómo cada pequeño paso suma en tu crecimiento como artista y te dará esa dosis de motivación extra para seguir adelante.

Es importante también ser flexible contigo mismo. La vida, y especialmente el camino artístico, está lleno de imprevistos. Habrá días en los que la inspiración fluya y otros en los que simplemente no quieras levantar el lápiz. Eso está bien. La clave es saber que cada esfuerzo cuenta y que no existe un único camino correcto hacia el éxito. Ajusta tus metas cuando lo necesites; si te propones algo demasiado ambicioso y sientes que se convierte en una fuente de estrés, es momento de replantearlo. Como dijo alguna vez un conocido artista, “no es el resultado lo que importa, sino el camino recorrido”. Permítete aprender de cada experiencia sin castigarte.

Otra estrategia que me ha funcionado es compartir mis metas y avances con otros colegas o en comunidades de artistas. Presentar tus objetivos no solo te hace rendir cuentas, sino que también abre la puerta a recibir feedback y sugerencias que pueden enriquecer tu proceso. Imagine each goal as a step that brings you closer to your long-term aspirations, and remember that what really matters is taking the next step, no matter how small it may seem.

The first step is to define what you want to achieve. Do you want to improve your technique with color? Do you wish to perfect your character anatomy or discover a personal style that truly identifies you? Whatever your objective is, it’s crucial to be specific and detailed. When you transform a corner, a room, or even just a table into an inspiring space, you fuel your creativity and turn your surroundings into your best ally for making your ideas come true. And the best part is, you don’t need a huge studio or a complete renovation to achieve it; with simple details, you can create the perfect atmosphere to draw, paint, or revisit your old studies.

First, think about lighting. Good lighting is essential so that our eyes can capture all the details and to brighten up our mood along with the space. Organize that digital corner too: keep your files well sorted and your devices in optimal condition so that when a new idea arises, you can capture it without any hiccups. And if you enjoy watching tutorials or inspiring talks, make sure you have a screen or projector positioned in a way that you can easily consult them.

Finally, I encourage you to surround yourself with elements that motivate you on a personal level. Sometimes, a small detail like a mug with an inspiring quote, some photographs of meaningful moments, or a sentimental object can be the spark you need to start your day with renewed energy. Many artists find in these small touches the trigger that ignites a creative session full of magic and authenticity.

Creating an inspiring space for your art at home goes beyond decorating a room; it’s about organizing and transforming your environment into a place that boosts your creativity and makes you feel like you’re in your natural habitat. It’s about finding that perfect balance between functionality and poetry, where every detail contributes to making the creative process as enjoyable as the final result. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes algo fundamental para todos aquellos que vivimos del arte: la práctica diaria. Sí, esa rutina que a veces parece repetitiva o aburrida, pero que en realidad es el motor que impulsa nuestro crecimiento y el desarrollo de nuestro talento. Tanto si eres ilustrador, creador de cómic o manga, dedicar tiempo cada día a dibujar puede marcar la diferencia entre sentirte estancado y seguir avanzando en tus proyectos.

Al principio, la idea de practicar a diario puede sonar abrumadora. A menudo, cuando empezamos, nos encontramos comparando nuestro trabajo con el de artistas consagrados y la autocrítica golpea fuerte. Yo misma he pasado por esos momentos de duda, donde un trazo torcido parecía confirmar que no tenía lo necesario para progresar. Pero te cuento algo: la perfección no llega de la noche a la mañana. La práctica constante, sin importar lo pequeña que sea, es la clave para aprender, equivocarse, corregir y evolucionar.

Para mí, la práctica diaria es como ese café mañanero que activa mi creatividad. No importa si es un boceto rápido, un estudio de una expresión o simplemente garabatear lo que se me ocurre en un cuaderno. Cada trazo suma, y cada día es una oportunidad para experimentar y crecer. Por eso, te invito a que establezcas pequeñas metas diarias: dibuja algo en 10 minutos o dedica 15 minutos a ese personaje que siempre te ha rondado la mente. Con el tiempo, verás cómo esos minutos se transforman en horas de creatividad y aprendizaje.

Una de las herramientas más poderosas para potenciar esta práctica es la constancia. En lugar de esperar a tener “tiempo libre” o “la inspiración perfecta”, crea un horario y respétalo. Coloca en tu agenda ese pequeño espacio para ti y para tu arte. No se trata de obligarte a hacer algo grandioso cada día, sino de comprometerte con el proceso. Como cuando alimentamos una planta: el riego diario, aunque sea un poco, la mantiene viva y la hace florecer con el tiempo.

Otra recomendación que quiero compartir es la de la experimentación. La práctica diaria no debería ser una rutina de repetición monótona, sino un espacio para la exploración. Si en algún día sientes que lo que dibujas no tiene la chispa de siempre, prueba con algo completamente distinto. Cambia el medio: usa acuarelas si siempre trabajas digital, o viceversa. Juega con la iluminación, los colores o incluso el tema. A veces, salir de tu zona de confort desencadena nuevas ideas y te abre horizontes que ni siquiera habías considerado. Recuerda que el error es parte del aprendizaje y que cada experimento, exitoso o no, te acerca un paso más a tu mejor versión artística.

Hablar con otros colegas también ha sido un elemento vital en mi proceso. Compartir tus inquietudes y resultados con amigos ilustradores o en grupos de redes sociales te permite recibir feedback sincero y, además, te recuerda que todos estamos en este camino de crecimiento constante. No dudes en mostrar tus bocetos, por muy “incompletos” que parezcan; muchas veces, la opinión de otros puede brindarte ese empujón extra que necesitas para seguir practicando. El intercambio de experiencias es enriquecedor y te ayuda a ver tu trabajo desde otras perspectivas. Yo he aprendido muchísimo de colegas a los que admiro y que, al igual que yo, dedican un momento cada día a su arte.

Otro consejo para enriquecer tu práctica diaria es establecer pequeños retos o ejercicios temáticos. Por ejemplo, puedes proponerte dibujar una misma pose en distintas emociones o representar un objeto cotidiano desde varias perspectivas. Estos micro-desafíos no solo te ayudan a mejorar técnicamente, sino que también inyectan creatividad y novedad a tu rutina. Verás que con cada reto, tu capacidad para resolver problemas artísticos mejora y empiezas a encontrar soluciones más originales.

Por último, no olvides celebrar tus logros. Muchas veces, en la búsqueda del progreso, nos enfocamos tanto en lo que aún falta por aprender que olvidamos reconocer cuánto hemos avanzado. Sorpréndete a ti mismo revisando tus antiguos dibujos: verás cómo cada día de práctica ha dejado una huella en tu habilidad y estilo. Date un premio, comparte tus avances con amigos o simplemente tómate un momento para apreciar el esfuerzo que has hecho. Esta actitud positiva te motivará a seguir siéndote fiel al compromiso de dibujar todos los días.

La práctica diaria no se trata de alcanzar la perfección instantánea, sino de disfrutar y aprender en cada trazo. Yes, that routine that sometimes seems repetitive or boring, but in reality, it's the engine that drives our growth and develops our talent. Whether you're an illustrator, comic creator, or manga artist, dedicating time every day to drawing can make the difference between feeling stuck and moving forward with your projects.

At first, the idea of daily practice might sound overwhelming. Often, when we start, we find ourselves comparing our work to that of established artists, and harsh self-criticism hits hard. I have been through those moments of doubt myself, where a crooked line seemed to confirm that I didn’t have what it takes to improve. But let me tell you something: perfection doesn't come overnight. Constant practice, no matter how little, is the key to learning, making mistakes, correcting them, and evolving.

For me, daily practice is like that morning coffee that kickstarts my creativity. It doesn’t matter if it’s a quick sketch, a study of an expression, or simply doodling ideas in a notebook. Every stroke matters, and each day is an opportunity to experiment and grow. That’s why I invite you to set small daily goals: draw something in 10 minutes or dedicate 15 minutes to that character who’s always on your mind. Over time, you’ll see how those minutes transform into hours of creativity and learning.

One of the most powerful tools to boost this practice is consistency. Instead of waiting for “free time” or “the perfect moment of inspiration,” create a schedule and stick to it. Carve out that little slice of time just for you and your art on your calendar. It isn’t about forcing yourself to do something grand every day; it’s about committing to the process. Think of it as watering a plant: daily watering, even if it’s just a little, keeps it alive and helps it flourish over time.

Another recommendation I want to share is experimentation. Daily practice shouldn’t become a monotonous routine of repetition; it should be a space for exploration. If on some days you feel that what you’re drawing is lacking its usual spark, try something completely different. Change the medium—use watercolors if you normally work digitally, or vice versa. Play with lighting, colors, or even themes. Sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone triggers new ideas and opens horizons you never even considered. Remember, making mistakes is part of learning, and every experiment, whether successful or not, brings you one step closer to your best artistic self.

Talking with other colleagues has also been a crucial element in my process. Sharing your concerns and results with fellow illustrators or within social media groups lets you receive honest feedback and reminds you that we’re all on this journey of constant growth. Don’t hesitate to show your sketches, no matter how “unfinished” they might seem; often, others’ opinions can give you that extra push to keep practicing. Exchanging experiences is enriching, and it helps you see your work from different perspectives. I have learned so much from colleagues I admire who, like me, dedicate time each day to their art.

Another tip to enrich your daily practice is to set small challenges or themed exercises. For example, you could challenge yourself to draw the same pose with different emotions, or represent an everyday object from various angles. These micro-challenges not only help you improve technically, but also inject creativity and novelty into your routine. You’ll see that with each challenge, your ability to solve artistic problems improves, and you begin to find more original solutions.

Finally, don’t forget to celebrate your achievements. Often, in the pursuit of progress, we focus so much on what we still need to learn that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come. Hoy quiero hablarles de algo que, sin importar cuánto amor tengamos por el dibujo y la narración, nos toca enfrentar de vez en cuando: el bloqueo creativo. Sí, esa implacable parada que a veces nos deja mirando una hoja en blanco o una pantalla vacía sin saber por dónde arrancar. A mí me ha pasado más veces de las que puedo contar, sobre todo cuando estaba a punto de terminar ese proyecto que me tenía tan entusiasmada. Así que, si alguna vez te has sentido estancado, este post es para ti.

Hace poco, mientras terminaba una ilustración para mi próximo cómic, me di cuenta de que la inspiración se me esfumaba. El lápiz no corría por la hoja como siempre, y mis ideas parecían haberse tomado un largo descanso. ¿Te suena familiar? La primera reacción que tuve fue la frustración; después de años trabajando en este mundo, crees que ya deberías tener un caudal inagotable de creatividad. Pero claro, la moral baja cuando uno piensa: "¿Y si nunca encuentro mi camino de nuevo?" La buena noticia es que he aprendido algunos trucos y estrategias que quiero compartir contigo, para que en esos momentos oscuros, la luz vuelva a brillar.

Primero, es importante recordar que el bloqueo creativo no es más que una fase del proceso. No eres tú “fallando” o “inútil”, ¡es solo parte del camino! Te comparto una táctica que suelo aplicar: tomarme un break de lo que estaba haciendo. A veces, dejar a un lado la ilustración y simplemente desconectar un rato es lo que tu mente necesita para reiniciarse. Por ejemplo, sal a dar un pequeño paseo, escucha tu canción favorita o mira algún anime relajado. Esta desconexión no significa abandonar tus proyectos, sino regalarte un espacio para respirar y recargar energías.

Otra estrategia que me ha funcionado es cambiar de ambiente o de herramientas. Si siempre trabajas en la misma mesa y con el mismo set de marcadores, prueba a reacomodarte. Puede ser tan simple como cambiar la iluminación de la habitación, poner unas plantas, o incluso sentarte en otra parte de la casa. A veces, el ambiente inusual, el cambio de escenario, despierta nuevas ideas y perspectivas. Y si eres de los que siempre están en el mismo software de ilustración, ¿por qué no probar una aplicación distinta, aunque sea solo para garabatear? La novedad puede ser un gran disparador de la creatividad.

Otra clave es la experimentación sin miedo. Recuerdo aquella vez que, en medio de un bloqueo, decidí mezclar técnicas tradicionales con digitales. No tenía planeado hacer un “collage” en mi ilustración, pero al final resultó ser una idea genial que transformó mi obra en algo único. Permítete explorar sin la presión de que todo salga perfecto. A veces, los errores o los experimentos fallidos se convierten en puntos de partida para nuevas ideas. Así que, cuando sientas que no tienes nada que ofrecer, atreverte a jugar con lo desconocido puede abrir puertas que ni imaginabas.

Además, compartir tus inquietudes con otros creadores puede ser un salvavidas. No estás solo en esta travesía. Conversa con amigos ilustradores, únete a foros o grupos de redes sociales donde puedas comentar lo que sientes y compartir tus experiencias. Muchas veces, escuchar que otros han pasado por lo mismo y descubrir cómo lo superaron puede ser la chispa que necesitabas. Yo misma, en varias ocasiones, me he animado a retomar un proyecto tras ver que algún colega había enfrentado un bloqueo aún peor y, sin embargo, logró reinventarse y salir adelante.

Otra recomendación es crear pequeños "micro-proyectos". Si sientes que abordar una ilustración completa se vuelve abrumador, empieza con algo más sencillo. Dedica un ratito cada día a dibujar algo sin compromiso, puede ser un boceto rápido, un personaje en distintas poses o incluso algo tan simple como una emoción en distintas manos o caras. Estos mini retos te ayudan a desbloquear la mente y, poco a poco, te das cuenta de que la creatividad fluye de nuevo en grandes cascadas.

Por último, recuerda no ser demasiado exigente contigo mismo. A veces nos castigamos pensando que cada obra debe ser una obra maestra. La verdad es que cada trazo, cada experimento y cada error son parte del crecimiento. Tu estilo va evolucionando conforme practicas y te arriesgas. Disfruta el proceso sin compararte eternamente con los demás o con versiones pasadas de ti mismo.

Today I want to talk about something that, no matter how much we love drawing and storytelling, we all face from time to time: creative block. Yes, that relentless standstill that sometimes leaves us staring at a blank page or an empty screen, not knowing where to start. It has happened to me more times than I can count, especially when I was about to finish that project that had me so excited. So, if you've ever felt stuck, this post is for you.

Not long ago, while finishing an illustration for my upcoming comic, I realized that inspiration was slipping away. The pencil wasn’t flowing on the paper like it usually does, and my ideas seemed to have taken an extended break. Does that sound familiar? My first reaction was frustration; after years working in this field, you’d think you’d have an inexhaustible creative reservoir. But of course, our spirits drop when we think, "What if I never find my way back?" The good news is that I’ve learned some tricks and strategies that I want to share with you, so that when those dark moments arise, the light can shine again.

First of all, it’s important to remember that creative block is nothing more than a phase in the process. You’re not “failing” or “useless”—it’s just part of the journey! One tactic I use is taking a break from what I’m doing. Sometimes, setting aside your illustration work and simply disconnecting for a while is exactly what your mind needs to restart. For example, go for a short walk, listen to your favorite song, or watch a relaxing anime. This disconnection doesn’t mean abandoning your projects; it means giving yourself some space to breathe and recharge.

Another strategy that has worked for me is changing your environment or tools. If you always work at the same desk with the same set of markers, try rearranging yourself. It can be as simple as changing the lighting in the room, adding a few plants, or even sitting in a different part of the house. Sometimes, an unusual setting or a change in scenery sparks new ideas and perspectives. And if you always use the same illustration software, why not try a different app, even if it’s just for doodling? Novelty can be a great trigger for creativity.

Another key is to experiment without fear. I remember once, in the midst of a block, I decided to mix traditional techniques with digital ones. I hadn’t planned on creating a “collage” in my illustration, but in the end, it turned out to be a brilliant idea that transformed my work into something unique. Allow yourself to explore without the pressure that everything must come out perfect. Sometimes, mistakes or failed experiments become the starting point for new ideas. So, when you feel like you have nothing to offer, daring to play with the unknown can open doors you never imagined.

Additionally, sharing your concerns with other creators can be a lifesaver. You’re not alone in this journey. Chat with fellow illustrators, join forums, or participate in social media groups where you can talk about what you’re feeling and share your experiences. Many times, hearing that others have gone through the same thing and discovering how they overcame it can be the spark you needed. Personally, on several occasions, I’ve found the courage to resume a project after seeing that a colleague had faced an even worse block but managed to reinvent himself and move forward.

Another recommendation is to create small “micro-projects.” If you feel that tackling a full-blown illustration becomes overwhelming, start with something simpler. Dedicate a bit of time each day to quickly drawing something without any commitments—whether it’s a quick sketch, a character in different poses, or even something as simple as conveying an emotion with various facial expressions or hands. These mini challenges help to unlock your mind, and little by little, you realize that creativity is flowing back in great cascades.

Lastly, remember not to be too hard on yourself. Sometimes we punish ourselves by thinking that every piece must be a masterpiece. The truth is that every stroke, every experiment, and every mistake is part of your growth. Your style evolves as you practice and take risks. Enjoy the process without constantly comparing yourself to others or to past versions of you.

Ahora bien, ¿Te has dado cuenta de cómo los videojuegos han evolucionado en las últimas décadas? Ya no sólo se trata de jugar y ganar (volvámonos nostálgicos y recordemos a PacMan); ahora son verdaderas obras de arte que cuentan historias profundas y emocionantes.

Hoy quiero hablarte sobre la influencia del arte en la narrativa de los videojuegos, un tema que creo que merece más atención y el cual te podría servir también de referencia si te dedicas al comic o al manga.

¡Imagina que estás sentado en un café, disfrutando de una buena taza de café mientras te cuento esto!

La primera vez que jugué a un videojuego con una narrativa que realmente me atrapó fue con "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver". Desde el primer momento, el arte visual me atrapó (era de los mejores gráficos en la época en que fue lanzado): los paisajes desolados de Nosgoth, los personajes tan bien diseñados y las emociones que transmitían. Todo eso no solo era bonito a la vista; era parte fundamental de la historia. El arte no solo complementaba la narrativa, sino que la enriquecía. Los diálogos eran y siguen siendo una joya.

Today, I want to talk to you about the influence of art in video game narratives, a topic that I believe deserves more attention and could also serve as a reference if you are dedicated to comics or manga.

Imagine you are sitting in a café, enjoying a good cup of coffee while I tell you this!

The first time I played a video game with a narrative that truly captivated me was with "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver." From the very first moment, the visual art caught my attention (it had some of the best graphics at the time it was released): the desolate landscapes of Nosgoth, the well-designed characters, and the emotions they conveyed. All of this was not just beautiful to look at; it was a fundamental part of the story. The art not only complemented the narrative but enriched it. The dialogues were and still are a gem.

Artistic design in video games goes beyond aesthetics. Every visual choice has a purpose. For example, in "Journey," the use of color and shape creates a unique atmosphere that reflects the protagonist's emotional journey. The warm and soft tones invite the player to explore a vast and lonely world, while the transitions between different visual landscapes reflect the stages of the character's personal journey. Here, art becomes a language of its own that speaks directly to the heart of the player to convey the emotions and feelings of the characters.

Let's also talk about how art can influence the perception of characters. Ya sea que estemos hablando de un héroe valiente, un villano carismático o incluso un compañero cómico, los personajes son los que nos hacen sentir, reír y a veces llorar. Así que hoy quiero compartir contigo algunos consejos sobre cómo podemos crear esos personajes inolvidables que se quedan con nosotros mucho después de haber apagado la consola. Esto también lo puedes aplicar a la creación de personajes de manga.

***1. Dale profundidad a su historia***

Primero que nada, hablemos de la historia. Un personaje sin trasfondo es como un café sin sabor. Necesitamos saber de dónde vienen, qué les motiva y cuáles son sus miedos. Piensa en personajes icónicos como Kratos de God of War o Ellie de The Last of Us. Ambos tienen historias complejas que explican sus acciones y decisiones. No tengas miedo de explorar su pasado; a veces, una experiencia traumática puede ser el motor detrás de su personalidad actual y la razón por la cual la audiencia simpatice con él.

***2. Hazlos humanos (o lo más humano posible)***

Incluso si estás creando un alienígena o un robot, es crucial que tu personaje tenga rasgos humanos. Esto no significa que deban ser perfectos; al contrario, las imperfecciones son lo que los hace interesantes. Dale a tu personaje defectos, inseguridades y sueños inalcanzables. En el caso de mi manga "Ángel Guardián", seleccioné los colores de la vestimenta de Kyrsiel y Gersiel en función de los elementos que dominan: Agua y Tierra, los cuales a la vez están muy en concordancia con las personalidades de ambos.

Los diálogos son la ventana al alma de un personaje. Asegúrate de que lo que dicen se sienta auténtico y acorde a su personalidad. Un buen diálogo puede hacer que un personaje sea inolvidable. Recordemos a Vegeta, de Dragon Ball Z, quien inicia como un villano deseoso de destruir la Tierra y termina siendo un padre de familia, con una esposa e hijos terrícolas y arriesgando su vida por conservar la paz y la seguridad del planeta.

Un villano como Thanos en Avengers: Infinity War tiene una motivación clara (aunque retorcida) detrás de sus acciones: busca equilibrar el universo según su propia visión distorsionada. Sephiroth, de Final Fantasy VII buscaba venganza después de descubrir su origen como forma de rechazo y repulsión hacia la humanidad a quien defendía cuando era un Soldado.

***8. Incluir elementos culturales***

Finalmente, considera incorporar elementos culturales en tus personajes. Esto no solo les da profundidad, sino que también permite a los jugadores conectarse con ellos a nivel personal o emocional. Whether we're talking about a brave hero, a charismatic villain, or even a comic sidekick, characters are what make us feel, laugh, and sometimes cry. So today I want to share with you some tips on how we can create those *unforgettable characters* that stay with us long after we've turned off the console. You can also apply this to manga character creation.

***1. Give them depth in their story***

First of all, let's talk about the story. A character without a background is like coffee without flavor. We need to know where they come from, what motivates them, and what their fears are. Think of iconic characters like Kratos from God of War or Ellie from The Last of Us. Both have complex stories that explain their actions and decisions. Don't be afraid to explore their past; sometimes, a traumatic experience can be the driving force behind their current personality and the reason the audience empathizes with them.

***2. Make them human (or as human as possible)***

Even if you're creating an alien or a robot, it's crucial that your character has human traits. This doesn't mean they should be perfect; on the contrary, imperfections are what make them interesting. Give your character flaws, insecurities, and unattainable dreams. For example, think of Captain Price from Call of Duty. He is a strong leader, but he also has moments of doubt and vulnerability that make him believable. The vulnerable points of a character are areas where there can be an *emotional connection* between the viewer and the character.

These connections not only help develop the main character but also add layers to the overall story of the game. Remember how the relationship between Joel and Ellie evolves in The Last of Us. The way characters interact within the entire universe created for the story will create situations or resolve conflicts that may arise through different narrative arcs. Don’t hesitate to delve into those relationships that are relevant to the development of your main character.

Don't underestimate the power of visual design. A character's appearance can say a lot about their personality even before they speak. Think about how colors, shapes, and details can reflect their internal characteristics. For example, a villain might have a palette of dark and sharp colors, while a hero might be dressed in warmer, softer tones. In the case of my manga "Ángel Guardián," I selected the colors of Kyrsiel and Gersiel's clothing based on the elements they dominate: Water and Earth, which are also very much in line with both of their personalities.

Dialogues are the *window to a character's soul*. Make sure that what they say feels authentic and aligns with their personality. A good dialogue can make a character unforgettable. Listen to how people speak in real life: their idioms, their way of expressing themselves, and their emotions. This will make your characters feel more real and relatable to the player. Remember, not everyone has to be poetic; sometimes, a simple line can have a big impact. Develop the dialogues based on each character's personality. Some may have a very formal tone while others are more irreverent.

***6. Character evolution***

An unforgettable character is not static; they must evolve throughout the game. This evolution can be the result of lived experiences, difficult decisions, or even failures. Players enjoy seeing how their characters grow and change in response to the events of the game. Think about how Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher faces moral dilemmas that affect not only his fate but also that of those around him. Each new experience helps give purpose to the choices the character makes and contributes to the character's maturity. Let's remember Vegeta from Dragon Ball Z, who starts as a villain eager to destroy Earth and ends up as a family man, with a wife and Earthling children, risking his life to maintain peace and safety on the planet.

***7. Clear motivations***

Every character needs a clear motivation that drives their actions. What do they want to achieve? Why do they do what they do? These motivations should be understandable to the player, even if they don't always agree with them. A villain like Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War has a clear (though twisted) motivation behind his actions: he seeks to balance the universe according to his own distorted vision. Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII sought revenge after discovering his origins as a form of rejection and repulsion towards humanity, which he defended when he was a Soldier.

You can draw from existing cultures and traditions or create a completely new universe with a cultural system that fits the story you're telling.

Don't forget that creating unforgettable characters is a process of *trial and error*. You won't always get it right on the first try, and that's okay. Sometimes a character may need adjustments after receiving feedback or after seeing how they interact with the game world. Don't be afraid to make changes; what matters is that the final result resonates with players.

Espero que estés disfrutando de un buen café. Hoy quiero hablarte de uno de mis temas favoritos: la conexión entre los videojuegos y el arte. A menudo, pensamos en los videojuegos como simples formas de entretenimiento, pero en realidad son una fuente inagotable de inspiración para artistas de todos los tipos. Así que, si alguna vez te has sentido bloqueado creativamente o simplemente buscas algo que despierte tu imaginación, aquí tienes una lista de algunos videojuegos que podrían hacer maravillas por tu proceso creativo.

***1. Final Fantasy Series***
Empecemos con un clásico: la serie Final Fantasy. Desde su primera entrega en 1987, estos juegos han sido un festín visual y narrativo. Cada título presenta mundos ricos y personajes memorables, diseñados por artistas talentosos como Yoshitaka Amano. La música también juega un papel crucial; las composiciones de Nobuo Uematsu son verdaderas obras maestras que evocan emociones profundas. So, if you’ve ever felt creatively blocked or are just looking for something to spark your imagination, here’s a list of some video games that could work wonders for your creative process.

***1. Final Fantasy Series***
Let’s start with a classic: the Final Fantasy series. Since its first release in 1987, these games have been a visual and narrative feast. Each title features rich worlds and memorable characters, designed by talented artists like Yoshitaka Amano.
