On November 29th, SAO Network was invited to participate in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session on Nulink Discord to discuss their partnership with Nulink and share the details of their collaboration. The AMA received a significant turnout of participants who actively engaged in the session, making it a great success. It’s my honor to have Alex from Nulink and Chase from SAO Network, to talk about the details of their partnership here today. Let’s start with Nulink. Can you Introduce yourself and your experiences?

Alex:

Hello everyone and welcome to our AMA with SAO Network. My name is Alex. I’m the Community Lead at NuLink. I have more than two decades experience in the IT industry, I’ve explored a variety of roles, ranging from sysadmin to SQA, and have experienced the full spectrum of tech support levels, from L1 to L3. Also lead teams in tech support, which has provided me with substantial knowledge and expertise in both people and community management.

Chase:

Yeah sure! I am Chase. I am the tech lead of SAO Network. I have been working in blockchain since 2014, and have rich experiences in web3 and blockchain development.

I have led the SAO team to develop the web3 storage infrastructure SAO Network based on cosmos-sdk. Besides, our team has also built a social dapp — Storverse, which participated in the 2022 DATA DAO hackathon and won the first prize.

Alex:

As this is our server, I hope a lot of people know about our project, but I will try to be brief about it.

Ok, NuLink is a decentralized solution that focuses on providing privacy-enhancing technology to decentralized applications. Our main goal is to simplify the process of creating secure and private applications for developers, startups, small businesses, and enterprises.

Perfect! So Nulink is trying to protect data privacy in Web3, right? How can Nulink make it?

Alex:

Now let’s get a little bit more technical. That’s right, data privacy in Web3 is our mission. The architecture of NuLink Network is built on a robust foundation, integrating various cutting-edge technologies. It comprises the application layer, encryption layer, storage layer, blockchain layer, and observer network. With NuLink’s unified API, developers and users can easily integrate and access multiple storage and blockchain solutions. In a nutshell, NuLink empowers developers to build applications with the utmost security and privacy practices.

Great! How about the SAO Network? Can you introduce the SAO Network to the Nulink community, Mr. Chase?

Chase:

No problem. SAO Network is a Web3 data infrastructure built on cosmos-sdk and IPFS preserving user’s sovereignty. SAO Network aims to build a data verse where data can be stored, protected, shared and tokenized together with web3 natives and dApps. It’s a permissionless open storage network composed of consensus layer, storage layer and computing layer that allows users to access data computing services.

Ok sounds like SAO Network and Nulink are both Web3 pioneers protecting data privacy and sovereignty. So what are the key features of SAO Network?

Chase:

We build a new decentralized storage network with an ecological incentive mechanism, aiming to provide functions that the existing decentralized storage projects cannot offer, such as data fast access, data privacy protection, data ownership and data access management etc.

Besides, SAO also provides tools such as SDKs, gateway and data indexing for developers to make it easier to build Dapps based on the SAO storage network.

That’s amazing! Now let’s talk something about the cooperation. Do you have any story behind your cooperation to share with the community? @Alex

Alex:

Of course. As I mentioned above, NuLink Network features a storage layer where we invite both miners and storage projects to join and offer storage services. The NuLink team became aware of SAO Network early in their development, but the collaboration didn’t take shape until the two teams met at KBW in September this year. We talked and found a common ground for work and since then, our partnership has gained momentum.

OK it’s such an interesting story! What are the future points of cooperation between SAO Network and NuLink? Can you share this?

Alex:

The collab between SAO Network and NuLink is set to cover several areas such as Secure Credential Management, Privacy-Preserving Identity Verification, and Secure Identity Storage and Authentication. Beyond these, we’re also looking at broader cooperation in areas like interoperability, enhanced privacy in data sharing, user consent and control, and initiatives for user education and awareness. These elements are key to forging a well-rounded partnership between our two projects.

Chase:

Yes, Mr Alex has put it quite clearly. I just want to add some more details of our collaboration. While NuLink has already successfully integrated with IPFS, Web3 Storage and Greenfield, SAO Network will further enhance NuLink’s data encryption storage services, offering users a wider range of choices. SAO Network will provide more data computing and encryption services with the support of NuLink’s solutions like Proxy Pre-Encyption and ZKPs.

Ok got it. So What do you think this collaboration will bring to Web3?

Chase:

I believe the collaboration between NuLink and SAO Network will be a win-win decision for both parties. At this very important stage, data and its value and sovereignty have been no more essential for web3 development. Our two projects have built partnerships based on the same faith on data value and web3. NuLink and SAO Network agree on the importance of data privacy and sovereignty protection and we are trying our best to do it. So base on a mutual collaboration. NuLink and SAO will hold hands in the way of web3 data privacy protection and data sovereignty realization.

Alex:

Well said, Mr. Chase. We are eager to explore these potential cooperation points and work together to serve the Web3 ecosystem. By leveraging our respective expertise and technologies, we can contribute to the advancement and adoption of privacy-preserving solutions in the Web3 world.

Good! Now let’s move back to the two honorable projects. What’s the next step for NuLink? I understand that you’re close to launching your mainnet. Can you please share more about that?

Alex:

Our mainnet launch remains on track for Q4, but we’re considering an additional brief testnet to refine our technology and engage the community. This testnet would ensure a smooth mainnet transition, provide valuable feedback, and reward active participation.

There are few reasons behind this: We’ve made significant upgrades to our technology since our last testnet over a year ago, and we want to ensure a seamless mainnet operation. Another testnet with community rewards would allow us to gather important feedback and address any potential issues before launch.

We’re committed to protecting user privacy, and we believe this additional testnet will be crucial for a secure and user-friendly mainnet. We believe community testing adds immense value, and we’re confident this additional testnet will benefit both us and the community.

Good luck with that! What’s the next step for SAO Network?Can you share with us Mr Chase?

Chase:

Currently SAO Network is integrating Chainlink’s product: price feed, functions and CCIP to support cross-chain storage payment.Meanwhile, SAO Network will build the computing layer to provide data computing service.

Next, SAO will start the encryption development, SAO will support peer to peer data encryption with the support of NuLink PRE, besides, SAO will support MPC too. so as to protect data safety.

Great! Looks like SAO is immersed in its way to realize its mission. What about plans for the community?

Chase:

For community and ecosystem growth, SAO will launch incentive programs to involve notable storage providers and validators in our Network. We are giving SAO Credits as rewards. which can be used to pay for data storage service on the Network.

SAO will also improve and perfect functionalities to establish partnership with more projects like NuLink which need to store their data onto a premium decentralized storage network.

On October 11, 2023, the ETH Riyadh 2023 conference successfully took place at the CODE Lab of King Saud University at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. ETH Riyadh 2023, a highly anticipated Web3 technology summit, was dedicated to the Ethereum ecosystem and blockchain technology, aiming to gather developers and builders from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and other regions in the Middle East.

Co-organized by Tharawat Technology, Studio1727, ChainIDE, Coffee with Crypto, and Mask Network, this event received guidance and support from the Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Saudi Internet Association, and the KACST Digital Entrepreneurship Center. The ETH Riyadh 2023 conference kicked off with a keynote address by Tim Beiko, a representative of the Ethereum Foundation, who presented “Ethereum Governance Overview.” Tim Beiko eloquently outlined various ways to engage in Ethereum technology development and contributions, along with collaboration opportunities.

Following this, Yasser Alobaidan, CEO of Tharawat Technology, delivered a presentation titled “Digital Economy,” introducing the digital economic landscape in Saudi Arabia, an overview of the Vision 2030 plan, and future opportunities in related domains.

• Early in July, Chase Wang, CTO of SAO Network, was invited to give a lecture on Cosmos SDK Developer Academy held by Cosmos Hong Kong Accelerator, which is co-organized by IBCL, BianjieGlobal and HashKey Capital etc.
• In July, SAO Network was invited to showcase at Cosmos Meetup in Shenzhen, strengthening its connection with the Cosmos Chinese community.

Introduction

Originally, Storverse was built by Hedra Labs as a demo application utilizing SAO Network’s data services. Storverse has won the Data DAO Hackathon co-hosted by Filecoin Foundation and Filswan and demoed its features on Binance Live on Sept 28th for its innovative design. To improve user experience, the team has launched an upgraded version of Storverse after a period of testing and development, which created new functions such as social networking and content publishing, etc.

With these new features, users can connect with each other, follow their favorite creators, and share their favorite content to their friends, etc. Meanwhile, the team has also launched the SDKs of Storverse interoperable data models for developers to use. Let’s dive deep into the newest functionalities of Storverse.

Storverse New Features

1. Functioning as a Content Marketplace

Generally speaking, Storverse is a marketplace for both Web3 content creators and content readers. For content creators, Storverse will be a user-friendly marketplace where they can publish their self-generated content and get them exposed to other Web3 natives. Futhermore, Storverse also enables content creators to get benefits from their quality content with the following mechanism:

Verse to Earn

To get started, for creators, they can “verse”(compose) their content on the platform. A verse means a post on Storverse. Those verses can contain text, photos, videos, GIFs or links, etc.

Once the content is uploaded as verses on Storverse, creators are able to control and manage the access to their verses. With the support of decentralized identity (DID) solutions provided by SAO Network, creators can choose whether their content is open to all or viewable only to specific users. This allows creators to have greater control over their content.

In addition to the benefits of content sharing and access control, Storverse also provides content creators with the opportunity to earn revenue from their “verses”. There are three ways that creators can earn from their content.

• Feature 1.1 “Follow to Access”

First, creators have the option to set their content as “Followers Only”. This restricts access to their published content to only those who follow them. This creates a sense of exclusivity and fosters a dedicated follower community. On the other hand, users can choose to follow specific content creators to gain access to the specific content. This gives users the ability to curate their content based on their interests and tailor their social media experience.

• Feature 1.2 “Pay to Follow”

Secondly, Storverse introduces a “Pay to Follow” function that enables creators to receive earnings from their followers. It also allows users to support their favorite creators by paying to follow them and keeping themselves in the loop. This new feature is working to create a more dynamic and engaging creator economy platform for creators and users who share very similar tastes.

• Feature 1.3 “Pay to Access”

At last, creators can set a verse as paid content, which is only viewable to those who “pay to access” it. This can be an effective strategy for creators who have a dedicated fan base that is willing to spend money to support their work. Additionally, creators can provide exclusive content or perks to those who have paid for access, which further motivates them to do so repeatedly.

Overall, the features for creators to set content as “Followers Only”, “Pay to Follow” or “Pay to Access” are powerful tools that can help creators create a more engaged and dedicated follower base. It is important to note that creators should thoroughly evaluate their audience and the value of their content before implementing a paid model, as it may not be appropriate for all types of content or audiences.

2. Functioning as a Social Platform

With all that has been said, Storverse will also acts like a social platform where users can interact with each other by reacting to specific content by “like”, “comment”, “reply to comments” and “favorite” etc.

• Feature 2.1 “Like”. To show appreciation for someone’s verse, press the “heart” icon. This lets them know you admire their work and creates a supportive environment in the Storverse community.
• Feature 2.2 “Comment”. Comment on someone’s verse to create a dialogue and offer constructive feedback. This can encourage them to continue writing and improve their content. Your feedback could be the spark that lights the fire for a budding poet!
• Feature 2.3 “Reply to Comments”. Storverse enables users to engage in conversations and discussions with a “reply to comments” function. This feature facilitates interaction with others, enables users to stay up to date with conversations, and helps build a vibrant community.
• Feature 2.4 “Favorite”. You can favorite a verse that resonates with you to access it later through your bookmarks. This feature helps track your spiritual journey over time. Consider favoriting a verse that speaks to you for easy access and reflection in the future.
• Feature 2.5 “Share”. Share your favorite verse on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, and inspire others to explore the enjoyment. Share the link with acquaintances so they can enjoy the verse without limitations.

Through these features, Storverse aims to build a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for storytelling and creative expression. This API is applicable to multiple programming languages supported by Amazon S3 with the goal of simplifying the process of uploading and downloading. With this API, a variety of applications could easily apply SAO Network as their decentralized data storage layer. By improving its compatibility with Amazon S3, SAO Network allows developers to seamlessly integrate their existing Amazon-S3-based applications with SAO Network’s storage.

Introduction

As a Web3 storage infrastructure, SAO Network has been endowed with the mission to boost Web3 ecosystem and support the migration of Web2 users to Web3. As many applications rely on Amazon S3 to store their structured data, SAO Network has developed an Amazon S3 Compatible API to enable a smooth transition from Web2 to Web3. This API will make it easier to use SAO Network’s storage and reduce unnecessary development efforts.

QuickStart Guide

Now please follow the guide to set your own server to upload and download data onto SAO Network using MinIO with Amazon S3 services.

Prerequisites

• Git
• Go (version 1.19.x)

Clone the Repository

First, clone the MinIO repository from GitHub by running the following command line:

git clone git@github.com:SAONetwork/minio.git

Checkout the SAONetwork Branch

Navigate into the cloned repository and checkout the saonetwork branch:

cd minio
git checkout saonetwork

Build the Project

Then build a project by running the following command line:

make build

Configure Credentials

The default credentials for MinIO are minioadmin:minioadmin. You can change these by setting the MINIO_ROOT_USER and MINIO_ROOT_PASSWORD environment variables.

Configure SAOClient

MinIO uses the existing configuration file of SAOClient. To initialize the SAOClient with the network you want to connect to (beta network for example), you can use corresponding command lines as follows:

For Beta Network:

./saoclient --chain-address <https://rpc-beta.sao.network:443> --gateway <https://gateway-beta.sao.network/rpc/v0> init --chain-id sao-20230629 --key-name nancy

For a Customed Node:

If you have your own node, you can initialize the SAOClient with the following command lines, replacing the chain address and gateway with your specific node’s addresses. Also, specify the chain ID according to the network you want to connect to (sao-20230629 for beta and sao-testnet1 for testnet):

./saoclient --chain-address YOUR_CHAIN_ADDRESS --gateway YOUR_GATEWAY_ADDRESS init --chain-id YOUR_CHAIN_ID --key-name nancy

Replace YOUR_CHAIN_ADDRESS with the address of your chain (e.g., http://127.0.0.1:26657), YOUR_GATEWAY_ADDRESS with the address of your gateway (e.g., http://127.0.0.1:5151/rpc/v0), and YOUR_CHAIN_ID with the chain ID of the network you want to connect to (sao-20230629 for beta).

After successful initialization, the by default configuration file should be located at ~/.sao-cli/config.toml and presented in the following way:

Configuring MultiAddr:

In addition to the basic configuration file, you can also set the MultiAddr option in the config.toml file of your SAOClient. This option specifies the multiaddress of the libp2p node that the SAOClient will connect to. If MultiAddr is set, files wil be uploadeding to SAO through libp2p, which is a recommended method for large-file-uploading.

Here’s an example of setting the MultiAddr option:

You can find the MultiAddr by running the following command line, replacing YOUR_GATEWAY_NODE_ADDRESS with your specific node address:

saod query node show-node YOUR_GATEWAY_NODE_ADDRESS

Alternatively, you can also use a curl command to find the MultiAddr:

Replace YOUR_GATEWAY_NODE_ADDRESS with the specific address of your node in the curl command as well.

Search for a TCP peer in the peer field, such as /ip4/8.222.225.178/tcp/5153/p2p/12D3KooWJA2R7RTd6aD2pUdvjN29FdiC8f5edSifXA2tXBcbA2UX

Start the Server

You can now start the MinIO server by running the following command line:

./minio server /data_folder

Replace /data_folder with the path to the folder where you want MinIO to store its data.

Concept

In the context of SAO Network, a MinIO bucket maps to a group ID in SAO, and an object name in MinIO maps to an alias in SAO. This mapping allows you to interact with SAO Network using familiar S3 operations.

You should now have a working MinIO server that’s configured to work with SAO Network. You can use the MinIO client or any S3-compatible client to interact with your MinIO server.

Upload & Download Data

Upon successful creation of your own server, you can upload and download data on the SAO Network with MinIO using the SDKs devloped by the SAO team.

What is ZK Proof?

In cryptography, a zero-knowledge proof(ZK Proof) or zero-knowledge protocol is a method by which one party (the prover) can prove to another party (the verifier) that a given statement is true while the prover avoids conveying any additional information apart from the fact that the statement is indeed true. (Source: Wikipedia) ZK proofs are highly recognized for its soundness, completeness and zero-knowledge. This means that ZK proof will help Web3 natives protect their data privacy during the process of data utilization.

Different Forms of ZK Proofs

There are several types of zero-knowledge proofs (ZK proofs) that are suitable for various use cases. These proofs have been developed to enable information verification without revealing any sensitive details.

One of the most commonly used types of zero-knowledge proofs is ZK-SNARKs (Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Arguments of Knowledge). These proofs are perfect for applications where privacy is a top priority. They can be used to verify information without revealing any private details, which makes them ideal for applications where confidentiality is critical.

Another widely-used type of zero-knowledge proof is ZK-STARKs (Zero-Knowledge Scalable Transparent Arguments of Knowledge). These proofs are ideal for applications where information needs to be verified on a transparent database. How Can ZK Proofs Protect Data Privacy on SAO Network?

Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary for SAO clients to provide data-bound verifiable attestations to prove that they meet certain requirements or qualifications. SAO Network is dedicated to providing clients a wide range of ZK proof solutions to meet different needs and situations to provide verifiable attestation for clients so as to protect their data privacy. The following are the most common use cases.

Web3 natives often need to provide verifiable attestations based on private data, such as personal resumes. In terms of resumes, the clients may want to provide credible proof of their working experiences at least exposure of other personal information. Through ZK proofs, SAO Network can offer attestation of required information. Users can authorize designated users to access private data related to working experiences. At the same time, working experience data can also include employer signature to ensure data reliability.

Another typical use case is DAO governance. As previous voting history may impact the clients’ vote weight, they may need to provide a verifiable attestation of vote times without exposing vote details. For example, a client can apply verifiable attestation without data exposure to prove that she/he voted 3 times before without providing voting details because the more one votes, the higher the vote weights.

This is how it works: For each user, all data will be constructed into a Merkle Tree, of which each leaf represents a “key: value” pair. The key is an identifier used to retrieve data while the value is the hash (CID) of the data. The hash roots of each tree will be recorded on-chain in the consensus. Based on this tree, users can prove:

• The tree contains the user’s voting data;
• The number of votes is calculated from the voting data;
• The data has not been modified since onboarding.

To conclude, ZK proof can protect data privacy on SAO Network by providing verifiable attestations without revealing private information. This can be particularly useful in cases such as providing credible proof of working experiences or previous voting history, where confidentiality is critical. With a combined utilization of technologies like ZK Proofs and TEE(Trusted Execution Environment), SAO Network will protect privacy and sovereignty for all data stored onto the network.
