Overview About The Brand:

InsideIIM is India’s largest community of India’s top talent that pursues or aspires to pursue a career in Management. This community is where India’s top management talent comes to figure things out. Whether you’re prepping for CAT, exploring MBA options, or planning your next career move, the community provides a space to learn from those who’ve been there before you.

It all started with a distribution-first approach, growing from a website into a thriving YouTube channel (Konversations by InsideIIM), Instagram, and LinkedIn presence.
Before 2020, there was a clear content gap in the market around management education, and InsideIIM stepped in to fill this white space with storytelling-driven content across multiple formats.

For many Indians, an MBA is the gateway to a better career. While the 2000s and 2010s saw a surge in public and private management institutions, there was still a vacuum of credible guidance — especially from those who had been through the journey themselves. InsideIIM entered the space when reliable, online resources for exam preparation (like CAT and other non-CAT exams) were scarce. But the platform didn’t stop at exam prep — it expanded its total addressable market (TAM) to cover broader career paths, offering a complete knowledge hub for young professionals navigating their careers in management and beyond too.

The Start:

InsideIIM emerged when credible online resources for CAT and other exam prep were scarce. But it didn’t stop there. Over time, it expanded its content reach beyond just MBA prep, covering a wide range of career paths to help young professionals navigate their journeys.

The Challenge:

InsideIIM had a presence on all major social platforms, the challenge here was social media was used as a billboard, filled with information the company wanted to push out to the public. Social media is more than just a PR tool, more than just an ‘impression’ manufacturing machine and that was the knowledge that helped us revamp the way we look at social media. The real strength of these platforms lies in their ability to humanize brands.

The brand’s social media strategy was overly focused on direct calls-to-action, be it signing up for webinars or registering for courses, without offering extreme value. This approach often alienates audiences who seek more than just calls to action sales pitches. Modern social media strategies thrive on creating value-driven content that educates, entertains, or doesn’t behave like a coded bot.

Brand Foundation:

Every brand stands for something, InsideIIM (and AltUni, which was its EdTech vertical focused on upskilling) stood for guidance, career decisions and genuine advice from folks who have done it — Be it cracking a management entrance test or preparation for placements, unfiltered truth about campus life or tackling academic stress. It provided a platform for people to give unfiltered knowledge on how to ace corporate life and lessons from their career mistakes.

We started doing research and building ways to make a consistent brand positioning on social media.

Foundational Idea: The idea was to build a full repository of content for young aspirants looking to build a solid career in management and other related domains. A go-to resource for aspirants looking to break into management and beyond, with real insights, expert guidance, and practical advice to shape their career trajectory.

YouTube:

Tonality and Brand Voice: We chose edutainment (Education + Entertainment) as our way of interacting with the audience. This included not talking like a college professor but a senior who just has a better overview of the system that the students.

Content Formats: The content formats we majorly focused on were long-form videos for YouTube combined with a good mix of shorts that led to long-form content eventually.

Major formats we focused on were :

Podcasts

A property called ‘Konversations Cafe’, is designed to host conversations around better career planning in an interview format.

Talking Heads

Talking head videos featuring various in-house creators break down some of the most asked questions in the simplest way possible.

Tours and Vlogs

The team would visit major campuses of the country and interview students and faculty about what makes it a special place to study and a lot more.

Content IPs

Several IPs were planned with one focus ‘helping the audience understand their career choices better’. This included:

Konversations Cafe Podcast

Konversations Cafe originally started as a live event series in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi, bringing together students and young professionals (18–30 years old) for real, unfiltered career conversations.

Later on, with the right packaging, we started to put these episodes on YT. This slowly became the flagship IP of the entire channel as well as the company.

🔹 The Format:

A 1:1 podcast-style conversation with guests from A-list companies, startup founders, consultants, bankers, accountants, VCs, and more.

A candid Q&A session, where the audience got to ask the questions that really mattered. At its core, Konversations Cafe was all about real talk on careers building, no fluff, no textbook advice. It brought industry professional face-to-face with young professionals, breaking down career paths, sharing real experiences, sharing not just success but stories of failure too.

Glimpse of a few episodes of Konversations Cafe Podcast: 🎥

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMYr1HHzGSR0RM2fEP3AXFLsbWwshooyh

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMYr1HHzGSR0OBlRDxw5ZKoOIc5vdOMRW

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGf6YGCKGNc&list=PLMYr1HHzGSR0RM2fEP3AXFLsbWwshooyh&index=13

Know Your Exam | Career Talks | Many More

To position the channel as a go-to edtech brand, we launched multiple talking-head series covering career, exams, and skill-building. These formats provided high-value, no-fluff insights — something that truly mattered in an age of information overload where credibility is the real game-changer.

🔹 Series Breakdown:

✅ Know Your Exam — A deep dive into the why, how, and what of every major exam in India, making test prep simpler and more structured.

✅ Career Talks — Tackling burning questions around career planning, in-demand skills, and hot opportunities.

With these series, the channel didn’t just put out more content, it built trust and authority, cementing itself as a must-follow for young professionals and students.

Here’s a glimpse of some of the videos that made it happen: 🎥

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDCPwJDoecQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoCv7efvtr0

Campus Tours, Take a Seat and Vlog

One of the best ways to hook an audience is to give them content they see themselves in.

That’s exactly what we did with ‘Know Your Kampus’, a series where we took viewers on a first-hand tour of India’s top campuses, through the eyes of students who live it every day.

🔹 The Format: We’d hit major campuses, mic up students and faculty, and get them talking about what makes their college special.

The episodes kicked off with a solid intro with some shots capturing the energy of the campus. Then, we’d go full POV mode, following students through their favourite spots.

Vlog series: To keep things raw and relatable, we launched a UGC-led vlog series where students shot their own day-in-the-life videos — no script, just pure candid vibes.

Filmed on phone cameras, with No production crew, no forced storytelling, just students being themselves.

Take a Seat: This series was designed to give the audience a front-row experience letting them feel the energy, discussions, and dynamics inside top B-school classrooms. Idea was to make viewers feel like they were part of it.

All these series helped the channel build trust and numbers among B-school students, making it the go-to place for anything careers.

Here’s a glimpse of some of the videos that made it happen: 🎥

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ngiuzY7pE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INYEzSUZya4&list=PLMYr1HHzGSR2romC0oIVfeK-OPln8Y8-o&index=14&t=255s

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcn5xIYyHEc

Revamping ‘Konversations Cafe’: A Game-Changer for Channel Growth

One of the biggest growth spikes for the channel can be credited to the podcast format series, ‘Konversations Cafe’. Originally launched in 2019, it was later revamped and reintroduced with a sharper focus on better packaging — titles, thumbnails, and hooks.

For any YouTube strategist, the core goal remains the same:

1️⃣ Get people to click on the video.

2️⃣ Keep them watching for as long as possible.

To achieve this, we focused on two key areas:

1. Optimizing & Rethinking Video Packaging

🔹 Thumbnails & Titles

The best thumbnails create a curiosity gap while triggering an emotional response, whether it’s doubt, surprise, excitement, nostalgia, or even intrigue.

Titles must provide clear context about the thumbnail while setting up the payoff the video promises.

A common mistake most videos make is misalignment between the title, thumbnail, hook and actual essence of the content. If the hook doesn’t match the promise, viewers drop off fast. Mostly before 30 sec of clicking on the video. We made sure each video packaging says the same story what the video is all about.

2. Retention & Viewer Engagement

Getting the click is one thing, but ensuring viewers stay is the real challenge. That’s why every podcast episode was structured with:

✅ An engaging 1-minute hook that sets up the conversation and evokes curiosity. This is mainly a montage of the best moments from the entire episode.

✅ Retention graph analysis to identify drop-off points and optimize future episodes.

✅ Constant iterations: because no YouTube strategy is ever one-size-fits-all. Anyone claiming all their videos perform equally well doesn’t understand YouTube’s dynamic nature.

We also experimented with episode duration, balancing depth and engagement to ensure content was valuable without feeling too long or exhausting.

3. Discovery Via Shorts ’n’ Reels

We systematically flooded every episode with Reels and Shorts, cutting out the most insightful moments from the podcast. With the boom of short-form content, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts didn’t just act as redirects to the full episode, they became powerful organic discovery tools, pulling in new viewers and expanding the reach of each podcast episode.

https://open.spotify.com/show/5y29UDgbkyUQaJu1FwR8nU

https://open.spotify.com/episode/6mgOcFfBExvaNiVkpEbMCJ?si=lsvA7FkgRUWg-eJneqLldw

The Goal:

At the heart of every video and post was a simple goal — help a young person figure out their career choices. And in doing so, build trust. Because when you genuinely help, people remember. Career choices shape lives — helping someone navigate that isn’t just content creation; it’s brand-building at the deepest level. This was true for not just video content on YouTube but we reshaped how we look at Instagram and Linkedin as well.

<aside> 🟡

Instagram:

</aside>

Instagram as a Discovery Engine for Brand Growth

Instagram isn’t just another social media platform — we saw it as a discovery channel for the brand, especially when targeting young audiences. With the 18–28 age group being highly active on Instagram, we experimented with multiple formats — carousels, reels, and static posts, creating engaging and value-driven content. Most of question we recieved or feedback were though Instagram DMs, making our belief solid that Instagram offers one of the most unfiltered brand interactions, making engagement feel natural and direct.

Instagram is one of the most frictionless platforms to interact with any brand. Instagram is where brands and audiences connect without much fiction.

At the core of every successful Instagram page lies value — it’s why we follow and engage with content. But on Instagram, two buttons matter the most:

Share Button

Save Button

As we built our education brand, our primary goal was twofold: to provide valuable career guidance and solve for the lack of structured mentorship — all while ensuring our content remained engaging, not overly preachy. Striking this balance meant blending insightful content with a fun, light-hearted brand personality.

Content Strategy & Formats:

🔹 Carousels:

A deep dive into business case studies, career opportunities, and other high-value insights, making complex topics digestible and engaging. Carousels were a perfect fit for the page that wanted to show career trajectories, ever-changing career trends and job market insights in graphics form.

Along with the carousel, we also made use of single-slide infographics, to show data-driven content that either evokes curiosity and helps the audience understand a sector better. Here is a small glimpse of few posts from the page, due to limited space only a few could make it to here.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cx9rGz3yEiY/?img_index=7

https://www.instagram.com/p/C8dumGxhMHb/

https://www.instagram.com/p/ClBbHunSWLe/

https://www.instagram.com/p/CtN3mA_y3-G/?img_index=1

🔹 Reels: Original & Repurposed

Repurposed Podcast Reels: These sub-60 second clips became a game-changer. They acted as a discovery tool for new episodes of Konversations Cafe while also delivering quick, valuable insights for time-crunched audiences. These reels quickly became one of the most popular formats on the page.

Original Reels : These were created with a sharp script, a compelling 3-second hook, and a strong payoff, leveraging the short-video boom post-2020. The topics were came from all walk of the career and work umbrella. Priority was given to things which were topical in nature. With reels we managed to do some B2B content as well, for legacy brands like HUL, Nestle, Tata Steel, Mahindra, and many more.

https://www.instagram.com/p/C3wd53JyPmp/?hl=en

https://www.instagram.com/p/C2NNusdie0A/?hl=en

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cw6rOStKbFE/

https://www.instagram.com/p/Cwe2K_Fh2Rf/

https://www.instagram.com/p/C4Ip3gjSQUL/?hl=en

https://www.instagram.com/p/Czu-SFsp2jo/

https://www.instagram.com/p/CrhpjO_vXfP/

🔹 Memes & Relatability: We also leaned into memes, injecting humour to keep the page fun and shareable. A well-placed meme doesn’t just entertain — it builds a sense of connect with the brand/page. It makes the brand more ‘human’.

Curious about my meme creation process? Check out my meme framework here.

Growth & Impact

This wasn’t just about chasing vanity metrics like impressions or views — it was about generating tangible business results.

1️⃣ Konversations Cafe as a TOFU Growth Driver

The Konversations Cafe podcast played a key role in Top of the Funnel (TOFU) growth, bringing in a steady stream of new audiences.

Every episode featured a subtle yet smart plug for AltUni’s offerings, seamlessly integrating brand messaging without disrupting content flow.

2️⃣ Reduced CAC & Lower Ad Spend

AltUni, the brand’s EdTech division, focuses on upskilling professionals for the ever-changing job market. Video content, combined with strategic posts on Instagram and LinkedIn, helped drive organic lead generation, making it easier to convert engaged viewers into learners.

Thanks to high audience engagement and strong organic reach, Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) dropped significantly.

With a solid content-led inbound strategy, we reduced reliance on Meta, Google, and performance marketing spend, allowing the brand to scale efficiently with lower burn.

By putting valuable content first, we built a system where trust and engagement naturally led to conversions without aggressive ad spending.

3️⃣ Growth Across Socials

YouTube: Grew from less than 100K to almost 400K subscribers, with a massive surge in watch time and total views across all content IPs.

Instagram & Linkedin: On Instagram, the journey went from 5k followers to 65k+, driven by the right content mix that transformed the page into a powerful brand-building and discovery platform. Meanwhile, the LinkedIn page grew from a modest 8k followers to nearly 40k, strengthening the brand’s professional presence and expanding its reach.

More than just numbers, the real win was seeing the impact — user delight, heartfelt DMs, and a growing community that genuinely valued our content.

I led the social media team, working alongside multiple creative strategists, editors and social media managers to make this growth happen. Over more than two years, I was deeply involved in both strategy and execution, ensuring everything stayed aligned with our creative direction.

At the end of the day, this wasn’t my solo effort, it was a team-driven success, built on a shared mission to create something meaningful.

“The work will never be called mine alone — great things are built when passion is shared, ideas flow freely, and everyone moves toward a common vision.”

I considered myself an evolved species in a huge spherical environment. I was ambitious and pompous (I still am), I considered my dreams to become somebody significant as the end of the road, Little did I know about the vast untouched ocean of ideas around me.

When I changed my perspective of seeing things (Which of course took some time), I had a revelation, I was just the collection of ideas that were engulfed into my brain since the day I came out of the bio-tunnel (Just made this term).

I was taught the language slowly, Although It wasn't taught consciously to me, I just mimicked the lads and lasses around me.

I learned about a basic force in physics called gravity through observation and mistakes.

I started to watch people around me and learned body language to live my life ahead. It taught me how important social norms are. Everyone around me was following those rules. Rules were set.

How to poop and eat?

How to greet somebody you know?

How to talk to a new person?

How to smile when you don't want to?

How to showcase your pseudo-social status?

How to pursue the degree that you aren't interested in and how to enter the so-called elite institutions that commanded social respect?

All of that was preset, step by step.

All you need is an entry into this world and you’re set to become the next version of versions around you. You will come out of this structured jungle almost the same as everybody else.

The schools here are designed to make us run in the herd.

Colleges have courses and curriculums designed to produce an obedient workforce for the top 1% and for the businesses owned by them.

Nobody talks about the unique combination of traits that you have and how to leverage those traits. Everyone is obsessed with following the preset norms.

Just of one thing: Societal acceptance.

Societal Acceptance

It won’t be an exaggeration if I tell you that everything that we do, every action we commit to, and every desire we form or chase is just a modified way to fit into society.

Humans have a history of living in groups. The individuals who were vocal and dominant enough to lead were termed as alpha. All others followed his directions. The one who sat on the spot of the leader had all the power within his fist.

Times changed, Humans evolved, but it's been rightly said that

“you can't deny the basic biology through a small progress in chronology”.

We all are still hardwired to behave the same way. Our systems are structured to give power to the top-ranked individuals.

What are people gonna think?

This is an omnipresent fear that everyone faces, The fear of what people are gonna think!

The same society that teaches us norms and rules to behave also brilliantly teaches us to care about the opinions of others around us.

As a counter effect of the conditioning done by society, we start to give a lot of time to impress others. We start to develop a desire to impress others as that is our way to find social acceptance.

As the technology exploded with tiny lethal bombs of social media validation, we all got more and more glued to our virtual screens and started to treat the social media metrics as the measure of social success.

We never asked: Is it even significant?

We never questioned because we are never taught to do that. The only time we asked questions when we faced difficulty in a math problem during school. We usually accept all other things.

We accepted the norm of renting out our time for money,

We accepted the rule to be financially stable by 25,

We accepted the norm of being married to someone at least by 30,

We accepted everything that was thrown at us because if we didn't, the ultimate fear would have arisen:

“What are people gonna think of me !”

I have tagged social norms and chasing societal acceptance as a deadly villain, also I might come across as an extremist in these passages, This is because I have seen the ill effects of social norms.

Most of us (including me) are not able to pursue what they really want to do in life just for the sake of fitting into the societal cage.

We don’t pursue our unpopular passion, We don’t marry that ideal one, We don’t wear our comfy outfits for those outings,

We don’t do what we want to do, all we do is what we have downloaded from society over the years.

Your ideas are not original

All of our ideas are unoriginal. Surprisingly while I am writing this blog post I know that my ideas are not mine. I am never arrogant about the originality of my ideas.

This is because most of our ideas are downloaded from society.

Every belief of yours including your religion and ethics, they all were designed by people who lived centuries ago. You practice the rituals because you are told to do so or you have a fear embedded inside of you that tells you if you don't do what is expected from you, you will be booed.

All the desire you form, the desire to own a lavish mansion, getting associated with an attractive partner, working at a top company, filling the wardrobe with brands known to elevate your status game, all of these things are given to you by the people around you.

Every idea you form is just the permutation and combination of the previous idea inside your mind.

It's always a good idea to be humble about this and not get pompous when you create a new song, form a company, or write a new blog (just like this one) because all you are doing is just forming new connections.

The same happens with a structured society, a group gets influenced by a few older sets of ideas and they mould it to influence others around them and the chain goes on.

As we all follow social norms, we all accept the ideas of people above us in the social hierarchy and don't question that. This is how this whole system is formed.

System of religion, the system of business, or the system of education, They all are formed by individuals who have downloaded their ideas and propagate it further.

Is there an end to social norms?

The only way to deal with a parasite is to know that you have a parasite in your body, Most people don't know this exists.

They accept social norms as just another ‘normal thing’.

The problem with social norms is that the more you follow them ,the more you fall in them.

Social norms are made to structure the cluttered society. As every concept is made with some short-term benefits in mind but over the years the concept turns into a norm and those who deny it are thrown out.

The only way to minimize the effect of social norms and not fall into the chase for validation from society is by constantly questioning and removing unnecessary cages around your life.

A rebel will get criticized, People will laugh at him/her, but the way to get out of this societal acceptance cage is to break it, nobody will come with a key and open you up. You will have to take your own stand.

#TheTabishTalks

If this un-original idea of mine gave you some meaningful insights, follow me here and at other places.

My Linktree : linktr.ee/mdtab10

Why does your storytelling fail to grab attention?

Is it the fault of the words that you use or the time you post it?

The reason is simple and that's because you fail to tell the story in a manner that spikes the emotions of the listener or reader.

We all are emotionally driven species and the later you understand that your storytelling will continue on the old traditional trajectory of logical justification.

This phenomenon is called as

“AND and THEN” vs

“BUT and THEREFORE”

Examples speak better so let's look at these pieces of tiny tales.

Robbie woke up at 9 and then he rushed to catch up a flight at 11, after he arrived at the airport he got to know that flight is two and a half hour late due to some thunders above, then he purchased a coffee to boost his energy level that was at all-time low afterwards at around 4 in the evening Robbie reached his destination and then called his friend to pick him up”

Now let's look at the other one :

A lazy fellow Rony snoozed the alarm 19 times after he woke up at 10, the day ahead was a test for Rony’s endurance and stamina, he quickly walked towards to kitchen to get some coffee but found that the milk he stored inside the refrigerator last night has got leaked as the milk pack had a hole.

Rony controlled his disappointment as he called a cab to reach the airport before 12 at least, In the middle of hurry and worry, Rony skipped his usual cold shower and compensated it with deodorants.

As he entered the airport he got to know that the flight is a bit late, this led to some pleasure hormone churning inside Robby’s body. Now he planned to sip his favourite coffee at the lounge area, once the coffee was over it was the time for 3-hour long flight journey. Jasmin’s phone rang twice and it was Roby who wanted her to pick him from the airport.

These were two-piece of stories that depict:

How storytelling is not just about the chronology

The first story is linear and has a lot of THEN and AND,

while the next one has surprise elements in abundance.

This is how you can learn and execute a great storyline but using emotional spiking moments and avoid it getting dull at any point.
