Nana: How to Recreate the Looks in Real Life — Plus Size Fashion

Ever since I recall, during my anime watching days, I always heard people talk a lot about Nana. I never got to watch it, in the meantime. But I did some research about its topics, and fashion (of course). And what a little piece of paradise it was. From gothic and more edgy outfits, to lolita and girly ones, the anime had it all. It had so many good choices, that it was really hard to hand pick two. So, I opted for the ones I would wear myself.

Nana is one of the most iconic josei anime ever created. Known for its raw storytelling and incredible fashion, it features everything from gothic punk looks to soft, girly outfits. For this post, I handpicked and reimagined two signature outfits — one from Nana Osaki and one from Nana Komatsu — into real-life, plus size fashion.

This anime is about two girls who have the same first names, but couldn’t be more different from each other. Both visually and personality wise. It tells the story of their friendship, music and personal struggles.

🎸 Look 1 — Nana Osaki (Suit with Punk Twist)

This look reimagines Nana Osaki’s iconic punk elegance in a structured yet rebellious outfit.

Color Palette Inspired on Nana Osaki suit’s look

Pieces included in the moodboard:

Black tailored blazer with silver buttons.

Short-sleeved burgundy shirt with white pinstripes.

Wide-leg black trousers with a leather half-skirt.

Black tie with star-shaped pins.

Black ankle-strap pumps.

Multiple slim black rings.

Silver star ear cuffs.

Vibe: Bold, edgy, androgynous — a perfect mix of masculine tailoring and punk femininity.

✨ Plus size styling tip: When recreating Osaki’s suit-inspired looks, focus on structure.

A well-tailored blazer with defined shoulders instantly sharpens the silhouette.

Instead of a leather half-skirt, you can also layer with a leather belt — easier to adjust and flattering on curves.

Don’t be afraid of bold accessories like ear cuffs and oversized rings, they balance proportions beautifully.

Plus Size Look Inspired on Nana Osaki suit’s look

🌸 Look 2 — Nana Komatsu (Romantic Sweetness)

Hachi’s look radiates innocence and charm, full of soft textures and feminine touches.

Color Palette Inspired on Nana Komatsu

Pieces included in the moodboard:

Hot pink long-sleeved blouse with frills.

Lilac vest with white edging.

Pink ruffled mini skirt.

White tights.

Lilac Mary Jane shoes with bow.

Dusty rose heart earrings.

Dusty rose scarf with rose detail.

Vibe: Soft, girly, dreamy — an everyday outfit that feels like stepping into a shōjo manga.

✨ Plus size styling tip: For Komatsu-inspired looks, volume is your friend.

A frilly blouse tucked into a high-waist skirt elongates the waistline.

If you’re not into short skirts, swap for a ruffled midi skirt or even wide-leg trousers in pastel tones.

Pair with Mary Janes or ballet flats to keep the sweetness intact.

Layering with soft vests or cardigans keeps the romantic energy flowing.

Plus Size Look Inspired on Nana Komatsu

Where to Find the Pieces (Categories)

Most of these pieces can be found on Shein Curve/Plus Size collection. Below are categories to look for:

Blazers & Jackets → structured, tailored, cropped, leather details.

Tops → shirts, frilled blouses, vests, knits, cardigans.

Bottoms → wide-leg trousers, ruffled skirts, tailored pants.

Shoes → pumps, Mary Janes, ankle-strap heels, ballet flats, combat boots.

Accessories → ties, scarves, rings, ear cuffs, earrings, bows.

✨ Want More?

🌸 Save these outfits on Pinterest and share with fellow Nana fans.

🖤 Want to build your own anime-inspired looks?

Hello! I’m ThreadedFandoms, and welcome to my little corner. Here, you’ll get a peek into what goes on in my head (fair warning: it’s a lot).

I’ve decided to start sharing a bit about what I’ve been doing and what I plan on creating for you.

Since I was a little girl, I’ve loved diving deep into my favorite fandoms. It all started with video games, watching older family members play, and then eventually exploring the cyberworld myself when I got my first console: a pink Nintendo DS. Many of you probably don’t even know what I’m talking about — go research, it was cool, I promise!

After adding some cute games to my collection, my love for anime and movies followed. Honestly, I don’t even know which came first — it’s like asking whether the chicken or the egg came first.

Over the years, my tastes have changed a lot. I mostly dabble in video games now, on my gaming laptop plastered with cute stickers that look like they escaped a Monster High locker (sigh a girl can dream).

Movies? I catch them occasionally in theaters, but only when my mood and attention span line up perfectly. And yes — I’m that person who whispers-commentates the whole movie behind you. Sue me!

Anime… well, it’s been a while. The last series I watched was probably Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Season 6. Why did I stop? As I grew, so did my awareness. I realized a lot of anime is overly sexualized and problematic, and being me, who overanalyzes everything, I just… stopped. I don’t hate it, of course. It just stopped being my cup of tea. But who knows in the future…

But something else grew alongside me: my love for fashion and aesthetics. And we all know how jam-packed the worlds of games, anime, and movies are with style.

So, I decided to combine my four loves into one beautiful mix. Why not create looks inspired by anime, movies, or video games — people like me to also enjoy?

And when I say people like me, I mean plus size. As a plus-size girl myself, I know how frustrating it can be to want to dress cute and feel represented.

Say less :)
