As we wrap up an exciting and productive 2024 at Max Level Studios, we want to pause and reflect on the growth, achievements, and foundations we’ve built this year. While some of our biggest releases are still on the horizon, the progress we’ve made — both in development and in strengthening our partnerships — has set Uldor on a trajectory we’re incredibly proud of. Laying the Groundwork for Tomorrow

Throughout 2024, our focus has been on establishing a rock-solid foundation for Uldor. From core gameplay mechanics to forming strategic alliances, our efforts were aimed at ensuring that when new modes and features do launch, they arrive on stable ground with plenty of room to evolve. Here’s a snapshot of some milestones:

• Dread Arena Remastered
  We elevated our beloved Dread Arena mode to new heights with deeper story elements and overhauled visuals, fully immersing players in the dark halls of the Dread King’s lair. Alongside the atmospheric enhancements, we introduced an updated user interface and a custom tournament system that lets players compete for prizes — adding a thrilling competitive edge to the experience.
• Basilisk Discord Minigame Revamp
  Our community-favorite minigame received a complete overhaul, revitalizing player engagement with fresh challenges and an updated design. We also introduced a Discord points system where community members can earn exciting rewards.
• AI-Powered Character Creator
  This year, we introduced a groundbreaking AI-driven character creation system — an industry first. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, we’ve unlocked unprecedented levels of customization and player agency. Even more exciting, this innovation represents just a fraction of the AI-powered tools we’re developing, hinting at transformative features yet to come.

Strengthening Strategic Partnerships

One of the most defining elements of 2024 was the way we forged and reinforced partnerships to better serve our players and expand the Uldor universe.

• Mantle
  Collaborating closely with Mantle, an Ethereum layer-2 network built with modular architecture, will be a key factor in optimizing Uldor’s performance and security. Mantle’s low fees and high throughput capabilities lays the groundwork for a seamless gaming experience — and the support from their team has been instrumental.
• Community Engagement and Collaborative Events
  This year saw us join forces with some of the top names in the web3 space for projects like the Mystery of the Nexus event, uniting players from multiple communities (including Ethlizards, Wildcard, Champions Arena, Illuvium, and Dimensionals). Partnerships with platforms such as Game7, GR1D Network, Starnet, DeQuest, Earn Alliance, and Space Mavericks brought additional expertise, new audiences, and exciting initiatives that broadened Uldor’s reach and visibility.
• Catalyst and Mizzy
  We’re also thrilled about our growing relationship with Catalyst, a talented group of gaming content creators. Adding Mizzy as a strategic advisor has proven invaluable — his expertise in web3 gaming, combined with his network in projects like Paladins DAO, helps us stay in tune with the evolving landscape and push the boundaries of what’s possible.

Welcome to the Februray 2024 Uldor Monthly Update! We use these posts to summarize our progress from the previous month and give you a quick look ahead. What is Uldor?

Uldor is a web3 MMORPG being developed in UE5. The game will be free-to-play, featuring a vast open world for players to explore, large-scale PvP battles in faction zones, and structured PvP matches in the Arena. You can find more specifics about Uldor in our whitepaper.

Dread Arena Remastered

In February we released an update to the Dread Arena with our new environment. This version takes players deep underground in the Dread King’s lair, and gives you a glimpse of a larger dungeon that will be fully explorable in future versions of the game as the bravest players face off against the Dread King himself.

This update adds a new ranged enemy type, training dummies, movable and destructible objects, enhanced physics, a new parry ability, improved character feet IK, and many other fixes and improvements.

We also added a training mode where you can test out combat at your own pace. The training mode takes place in a special gothic cathedral map where you can spawn in enemies and test out the combat system in a controlled environment.

Development Updates

After releasing our Dread Arena update, we fully shifted our focus to our upcoming PvP mode. We are making significant progress and will be sharing much more in the coming weeks! We have also added more talent to the team in recent weeks to accelerate our progress. Stay tuned for more details!

Mystery of the Nexus

The Mystery of the Nexus has concluded after 3 teams solved the epic scavenger hunt! This event was hosted by Ethlizards and joined by web3 games Champions Ascension, Uldor, Illuvium, Dimensionals, and Wildcard. The event had been in the works for months and we were thrilled to be a part of it! The prize pool comprised over $10,000 worth of gaming assets from these incredible projects, and we’re proud to see several Uldor community members among the winning teams! Ethlizards are processing all the submissions from other teams to determine the 4th and 5th place positions, which will be announced on a March 7 livestream on the Ethlizards YouTube channel.

Mystery of the Nexus

In January we kicked off the Mystery of the Nexus! This epic scavenger hunt is hosted by Ethlizards and is joined by Champions Ascension, Uldor, Illuvium, Dimensionals, and Wildcard. This event has been in the works for months and we are thrilled to be a part of it! Players can create and join teams and scour the clues to solve the hunt to win some amazing prizes! The prize pool comprises over $10,000 worth of gaming assets from these incredible projects.

Development Updates

Our next release of the Dread Arena is imminent! We’ll release a full changelog with the update, but this update introduces our new environment, taking players into the depths of the Dread King’s domain. We’ve greatly improved our combat system, but it is still under heavy development. We added ranged enemies and improved the bow for players as well.

What’s ahead

After this update, we are shifting our full focus to our PvP release. The combat improvements in this update were mostly focused on PvP mechanics. While the Dread Arena wave mode is fun and served as a great early game mode, PvP combat is not well suited to face off against hordes of enemies. This new chapter for Uldor will add intense competitive gameplay and allow us to fully develop and balance class abilities!

Uldor Genesis NFT Updates

After thoughtful consideration and community feedback, we’ve decided to lower the max supply of our Guardians and Furies NFT collections to 1,500 each. This strategic move, including the burning of remaining NFTs, allows us to focus on enhancing the utility of these collections for our early adopters and future participants.

Guardians and Furies NFTs offer a plethora of benefits, including early or exclusive access to content, special discounts, and more. Upcoming perks include unique in-game companion pets and eligibility for exclusive NFT mints, reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional value to our holders.

Our community is a critical component of our success. Your insights and enthusiasm have been invaluable support to our development. We continue to share regular updates with our community through Discord announcements, weekly Twitter spaces, monthly Medium updates, as well as Town Halls, polls, and more! In 2023, we grew closer to our community as it continued to grow and bring in new voices, competitive players, and true community champions!

Content Creators

We’ve also nurtured relationships with web3 content creators, recognizing their essential role in educating and onboarding gamers. We’ve actively supported these creators, providing them with direct access to our team and highlighting their contributions across various platforms. Web3 content creators face unique challenges and deserve our support. If you aren’t already, please find some creators to support. Every day, creators are streaming web3 games on Twitch or Kick, sharing videos on YouTube, and posting detailed threads and newsletters sharing updates and announcements from web3 games.

Partnerships

We’ve made significant strides in establishing synergistic partnerships that enhance our ecosystem. Our commitment to these relationships goes beyond mere announcements, focusing on tangible collaborations that bring value to our community. Several of these partnerships will be significant drivers of our growth in 2024.

Looking Ahead

The best of Uldor is still to come! In the coming weeks we will be releasing our Dread Arena remastered update, and soon after we will release our first commercial game mode, our PvP Arena.

PvP Arena

Set to launch in March 2024, our PvP Arena represents our first commercial game mode, featuring ranked matches, unranked skirmishes, and a comprehensive progression system. This exciting development will introduce seasonal content rewards, including exclusive armors and weapons. This also marks a significant stage in our marketing and outreach efforts as we onboard many thousands of gamers to our ecosystem.

Throughout 2023, we’ve made substantial progress in this arena, including enhancing combat and animations, developing custom microservices for our progression system, leaderboards, and chat functionality, and creating distinctive character cosmetic armors and weapons. We’ve also diligently worked on designing and testing our initial PvP maps, setting the stage for an immersive and competitive gaming experience.

Faction Battles

After our PvP Arena launch, we will start turning more attention to our Faction Battles game, currently planned for release in Q3 2024. In this game mode, players join a faction and participate in large-scale PvP battles competing over territory. Factions defend their territory by building up fortifications. Players can organize assaults to attack enemy fortifications to claim their territory. Holding territory gives factions certain benefits, including special shops, dungeons, and quests where players can obtain rare items.

MMORPG

After releasing our Faction Battles game, we will complete the development of our full open world game. Essentially, this mode expands our Faction Battles persistent world to add PvE content, including many cities and towns, quests to explore the vast world, dungeons and world bosses introducing unique challenges and rewarding loot, and a rich story where players can immerse themselves in the world and its characters.

Final Thoughts

Despite the challenges faced by many in the web3 space this year, we’ve seen growth and resilience. We’re excited to be at the forefront of this evolving landscape, offering gamers truly compelling gameplay and the unique benefits of blockchain.

Uldor Character Outfits

We are fortunate to have an extremely talented and passionate team working at Max Level Studios! This month we share some incredible outfits designed by our lead character artist. We have been working on custom character armors for players, as well as outfitting NPCs to populate Uldor’s vast open world. You will be seeing a lot more of these outfits and more in upcoming videos and game updates!

Uldor Character Videos

We are working on cinematics featuring Uldor’s characters. As a reminder, Uldor is utilizing Epic’s Metahuman characters. These hyper-realistic characters can be completely customized, as seen with our Dread King. We will not only use these high-fidelity characters in our game, but we can also utilize the same characters in cinematic quality videos for teasers, trailers, and story-telling without the high cost and time of traditional game cinematics.

What’s Ahead?

As you can tell from our recent sneak peeks, we are working on a number of things that we are extremely excited about!

Dread Arena Update

We are working on a big game update which we hope to deliver in November. This update will be the biggest update for the Dread Arena yet! We are still working on a number of items, and there are some things we want to save for the reveal, so we aren’t giving all the details just yet! You can expect some gameplay improvements, new features, combat updates, and more, but stay tuned for the full details of this update!

We have a lot more in the works and will be sharing more updates as soon as they are ready!

Uldor Town Hall

We will be hosting a Town Hall in Uldor’s Discord on Tuesday, November 7 at 7:00 pm EST. We will go into more detail on some recent Uldor updates and will also be taking questions from the community. Town Halls are a great way for your voice to be heard! If you have a burning question, feedback, or suggestions for us, make sure to join us! If you can’t make the Town Hall but would like to drop your questions or comments in advance, you can do so in the #townhall channel in our Discord.

Dread Arena Tournaments

Our latest Dread Arena tournament concluded on September 30. This tournament introduced our new Mayhem Mode and featured a $500 prize pool! In Mayhem Mode, players start with increased health, stats, and elixirs, and all weapons begin unlocked. There is only 1 wave in this mode so the leaderboard scores are entirely based on kills.

Future Tournaments

Stay tuned for future Dread Arena tournaments! We are talking to partners about hosting Featured Tournaments. If you are interested, please contact Graslo or Sander in the Uldor Discord. As a reminder, players can create their own tournaments and share an access code for others to compete on a private leaderboard.

Sneak Peeks

We have been hard at work on a number of things behind the scenes. While most are not ready to be shared quite yet, we know our community is anxious to see what we’ve been working on! Today we can share some sneak peeks from a few new areas.

Khasar, the Oasis Jewel

Nestled amidst the arid expanse, Khasar was birthed by the heart of a bountiful oasis. Once a mere stopover for thirsty travelers, its fate transformed with the fall of Tamana, making it a pivotal hub for traders and merchants. Though the ominous shadow of Karg looms nearby, the wisdom of Khasar has allowed it to maintain a delicate neutrality amidst the raging tempests of war that have gripped the world.

Fairwatch Keep, the Northern Bastion

Perched majestically in the northeast, Fairwatch Keep stands as the indomitable sentinel for Zetan. Its walls, kissed by sea mists and brushed by chilling northern winds, are ceaselessly manned by devoted soldiers. Ravenspire Settlement in the Heart of Tenderbark

Ensconced within the embrace of the vast Tenderbark forest, Ravenspire is more than just a settlement — it’s a testament to human resilience. The dense canopies hide both the beauty of wild tribes and the danger of lurking beasts. As war tore through the land, severing Ravenspire from the protective reach of the empire, its denizens stood tall. With each passing moon, as the forest’s shadows grow deeper and more perilous, the people of Ravenspire harness their innate courage to defy the odds.

What’s Ahead?

We are working on a number of things that we are very excited about. We have begun talking to investors to prepare for our next milestones. To that end, we have prioritized some tech demos to show off some capabilities. We are also working on a new teaser trailer that showcases some of our newer content.

We also have plans for co-op mode, progression system, improved enemy AI, wallet integration, PvP, more lore and storytelling, and more. We have made progress on a number of these items and more that we don’t want to share just yet.

Community Spotlight

This month we recognize lopistflyingstar! Lopist has been a longstanding supporter of Uldor and hosted numerous custom D&D campaigns as our official gamemaster. Lopist surprised us by creating a large tufted rug using the Uldor logo! The rug is massive and looks incredible in person! We hope to show this rug off at some events in the future! Huge thanks to Lopist for the rug and the continued support.

Welcome to the August 2023 Uldor Monthly Update! We use these posts to summarize our accomplishments from the previous month and give you a quick look ahead. Many of these updates will have been discussed previously on our Twitter Spaces (X Spaces?), Twitch Streams, or other announcements, but these posts serve as a way to catch up in case you missed anything!

What is Uldor?

Uldor is a web3 MMORPG being developed in UE5. The game will be free-to-play and feature a vast open world for players to explore, large-scale PvP battles in faction zones, and structured PvP matches in the Arena. You can find more specifics about Uldor in our whitepaper.

Uldor Dread Arena

Our first playable game mode is out now! Uldor Dread Arena is currently available free-to-play from Elixir, HyperPlay, and Seddona game launchers. In this game mode, players face off against waves of the Dread King’s minions. Test your might in the arena today!

Dread Arena Tournaments

In July we added tournaments to the Dread Arena! Players can participate in Featured Tournaments with public leaderboards where they can compete for prizes. Our latest tournament started today and goes through the end of September. This tournament introduces a new game mode, Mayhem mode, and has a $500 prize pool! In Mayhem Mode, players start with increased health, stats, and elixirs, and all weapons begin unlocked. Enemies are sent out in a random order, without end. There are no waves so there are no additional upgrades after the game starts, so you can’t afford to make mistakes.

In August we also had a partner tournament featuring ZeroSum with a $200 prize pool. We are also working with additional partners to bring more regular tournaments and introduce Uldor to more communities.

Dread Arena Updates

We introduced a number of updates in August, including:

Tournament character rules

When creating a tournament, players can now allow/disallow specific characters. Maybe you think a certain character is overpowered, or maybe you just want to see who the best player is with Lyrina. This feature enables players to have more control and customization when creating tournaments.

Mayhem mode

In Mayhem mode, players start with increased health, stats, and elixirs, and all weapons begin unlocked. Enemies are sent out in a random order, without end. There are no waves so there are no additional upgrades after the game starts, so you can’t afford to make mistakes. Mayhem mode can be selected during the tournament creation by changing the mode from Normal to Mayhem.

Enemy levels

We added enemy levels so that enemy difficulty can be scaled up or down. For now, enemy levels match the wave number. A skeleton on wave 5 is a level 5 skeleton. The level benefit for enemies is subtle, so players may not notice it until they get into further waves. We are still tweaking the enemy stats and level effect. Enemy levels will play a much bigger role in our open world modes, but the idea of introducing levels now was to give us more control over the difficulty curve so we can better balance the early, mid, and late game experience in the Dread Arena.

Additional balance tweaks

We also made some weapon balance tweaks to reward the later tier weapon unlocks. We increased damage from dual axes and reduced halberd damage slightly to distinguish it from the royal lance.

Misc. fixes and improvements

We continue to make minor fixes and improvements to the codebase. There are a number of items still on our list to improve, but we are happy with the direction the updates are going!

Soulbound quests

We announced a partnership with Soulbound, a gamer reputation platform where gamers can accept and complete quests from various games. Players can find Soulbound quests on the Soulbound website or in Uldor’s Discord. You can read the quest announcement here.

What’s Ahead?

In the coming weeks you will see some teasers from new areas we have been working on, including a desert city where players will be able to hang out, socialize, interact with NPCs, as well as accept quests. We also have an expansive open world zone we are very excited to show off!

We still have some big items in store, including co-op mode, progression system, improved enemy AI, wallet integration, PvP, more lore and storytelling, and more. We are also actively discussing additional strategic partnerships to grow our player base and provide richer experiences to our players.

First tournament complete!

Our first tournament, Awakening, has concluded. Huge congrats to FDSmog for taking the top spot! The competition was intense, and we were blown away by the participation and extreme dedication of the top-placed players! Your names will be immortalized.

Authentication system

We also implemented our new authentication system, allowing players to claim a profile name that will be displayed on leaderboards. Profiles will also be important going forward as players earn rewards through our progression system.

Create your own tournament!

In addition to offering featured tournaments created by us, we thought it was important to allow players to create and host their own tournaments! This empowers our players to challenge one another in private tournaments. After creating a tournament, you can share the access code with whomever you like! This is great for communities of gamers or content creators who want to have private tournaments among themselves without them being open to anyone. We will be adding custom tournament rules, including limiting the tournament to certain characters, the maximum number of attempts per player, difficulty setting, and more!

New Hire!

This month we were delighted to share that the legendary Tim Upper (Tupper) has joined the ranks at Max Level Studios as our new Technical Product Strategist!

With his technical background and unique experience in the web3 space, Tim brings valuable expertise as we build and scale Uldor’s infrastructure. Tim shares our passion for web3 communities and will aid us in our mission to deliver amazing and rewarding experiences to the Uldor community.
