Univers has a dynamic team with many different skill sets and responsibilities. A few weeks ago we had the honour of introducing our Product Manager to you via our weekly Founder’s Corner session. This week we are proud to delve deeper into his mind and history in our Meet the Univers Team Series, featuring Paweł Kalinowski! Paweł has a vibrant background in finance, software and blockchain: here’s what he had to say about himself and Univers!

What is your professional background?

My professional background comes mostly from financial/banking software areas. I started my career as a functional tester in a world-leading company producing software for banks and financial institutions then continued my testing career in one of the Nordics banks — in the largest core banking program in Europe. It was a really challenging and ambitious project, with great people and energy. In the meantime, I started growing my knowledge about Scrum and Project Management, which resulted in changing my position to being a Scrum Master of two Scrum teams.

After-hours, the crypto world became my private interest. After some time, I became an advisor for VAIOT project, focusing on software quality and product development. That was my first professional step into the crypto industry. After couple of years in big corporations I wanted to gain hands-on experience with blockchain and started working in the polish software house Veriori, which offers software which builds on blockchain. From there I landed in Univers.

What attracted you to Univers?

Being part of such an interesting project from the very beginning, is something you can’t miss. Working with visionaries (Yann), tech geniuses (Cherif) and crypto wizards (Michał) is an everyday pleasure. Apart from the people, the concept of the Univers is second thing which got my attention. Connecting virtual worlds and real-time decision making in live e-sports games are the things which I can’t wait to make a reality.

How do you believe your expertise will enhance Univers?

Thanks to my mixed experience — joining hands-on software testing with working in agile software teams has helped me to hone my ability to develop IT projects and products.

What are you looking forward to the most/what about Univers excites you the most?

As I’ve mentioned in the previous question, connecting virtual worlds and real-time decision making in live e-sport games excites me the most. Those are very ambitious and complex initiatives, almost without any precedence.

Paweł is a curious mind with the incredible ability to view problems from many different angles giving him the unique ability to find creative and unique solutions. He continues to elevate the Univers vision and we cannot wait to back in his achievements as we continue to develop!

Univers has spent the last few months in a deep state of development and expansion. Those of you attending our weekly Founder’s Corner sessions are savvy to some of the most exciting announcements and operations. This week we are proudly relaunching our Meet the Univers Team series with some amazing new additions to the team and one such introduction today! Corentin Guillaume has a diverse background in video game project management, production, software development and has been officially on-boarded to Univers as our Video Game Producer. We asked Corentin some questions about himself and Univers; here’s what he had to say!

What is your professional background?

I studied video game project management in a school in Paris, where I learned how to manage any kind of game development. My first experience as a project manager was in the VR field. At this job, I was in charge of asking developers to join a Netflix-like catalogue for VR Games. I was also in charge of managing the development of the catalogue. My next job was as a producer in an indie game studio. I was responsible for the daily management of multiple project teams as well as nurturing relationships with numerous clients and multiple video game publishing companies. A few years ago, I created a company to sell plugins that I developed for the Unreal Engine marketplace. This company enabled me to sell my game/software– NFT Museum, which I developed alone for six months!

What attracted you to Univers?

The thing that attracts me the most to this industry is the challenge. We are at the beginning of something great with blockchain technology in general; a blank slate where everything must be done. A space with so much potential and so little definition is very alluring. The core vision of Univers is what attracts me to the project. In essence, Univers intends on building a developer network to actually create the metaverse. In my opinion, you can’t make a metaverse with a single entity. A metaverse is built on the synergy between many projects and that is exactly what Univers is facilitating.

How do you believe your expertise will enhance Univers?

With my game industry knowledge, I will be able to bring a healthy, qualitative, fun, and sustainable front end to our metaverse. With my technical background, I will be able to understand the technical challenges of incorporating blockchain into video games and address them/solve problems– with the help of a talented team!

What are you looking forward to the most/what about Univers excites you the most?

I can’t go into many details as much of my present work is under NDO, but what I can say is, we will work on some groundbreaking (and technically challenging) features that can change the way we watch and use entertainment. This tech added to the blockchain concept, and you have exceptional value with Univers.

Corentin is a brilliant mind with a creative flair. Experienced in all the right areas and full of passion for discovery and exploration, he is sure to not only bring the Univers vision to life, but carry it to even greater heights.

What would the physical world look like if more of it were designed and built with greater social consideration and with the input of many minds from all different backgrounds? Univers founders ponder this frequently, especially when contemplating ever changing cityscapes. Cities that in the past were considered glorious, are now often preserved for their historical value, but present difficult challenges to modern day needs. Historical structures, roadways and landscapes alike are often modified to increase and meet new accessibility standards. We witness this all the time with the continued adoption of accessibility ramps/escalators and elevators for those who use assistive devices. We have also experienced an increase in the popularity of braille in public buildings and transportation stations/vehicles, and have even seen widespread social media adoption of the captioning of videos to be inclusive of those who are hard of hearing. Many accessibility issues that in historical times drastically decreased the quality of lives of those they belonged to, are now (not without their challenges), but not factors which limit our potential to thrive and enjoy fulfilling lives. It is very easy to determine the incredible value of considering many different human experiences when building a strong society. And Web 3.0 has the potential to further increase accessibility and capacity in our physical worlds!

How could Web 3.0 be used to improve our lives? The opportunities are infinite. Consider the ways we already use the technologies which make up Web 3.0…

1. Social media (although addictive) is at its core both an extension of our voices and a method of fulfilling our very primal human need for connectivity. It allows us to communicate with one another, learn from and teach one another, as well as feel connected to and part of a community which is essential to our survival.
2. Augmented Reality (AR) is literally an extension of our physical reality, but one in which we gain the ability to experience life with even more creativity. Sure, AR is a ton of fun, but it also helps us make important decisions about our lives– from our aesthetics such as what hair colours we like on ourselves, or what furniture we think looks good in our houses, to teaching us valuable historical information and delivering visuals of what the future could look like overlaid on our current world.
3. Virtual Reality (VR) takes that one step further and is an extension of our physical reality into a virtual setting. VR allows us to build upon familiar concepts of existence and create entirely new worlds, creatures and even thought processes. It can stimulate the imagination of those with little creativity, or be used as a tool for teaching valuable lessons to those with learning difficulties. It can even give those with physical difficulties, the opportunity to participate in exhilarating experiences such as roller coasters, skydiving or mountain climbing, but in a safe and virtual way.
4. When it comes to blockchain and its positive potential, consider the many people with limited earning opportunities who have found ways to earn active and passive income regardless of the financial state of their governing nation. It is also continually increasing in its security and speed which makes it ever more powerful.

But like all technological advancements, Web 3.0 has both positive and negative potential and the result will be determined by the groundwork we are collectively laying now.

When we say negative potential, what we are considering are the various ways technology has been or is being used to submit the population, extract information and resources from them or deliver false or hateful information on a wide scale. We also wish to be mindful of the balance necessary to ensure users are utilizing Web 3.0 as a tool to enrich their lives, and not as an escape from it. Louis Rosenberg provides an excellent example of the many ways metaverse participants could be targeted in XR in his recent article for VentureBeat:

“Imagine walking down the street in a virtual or augmented world. You notice a parked car you’ve never seen before. As you pass, you overhear the owner telling a friend how much they love the car, a notion that subtly influences your thinking consciously or subconsciously. What you don’t realize is that the encounter was entirely promotional, placed there so you’d see the car and hear the interaction. It was also targeted — only you saw the exchange, chosen based on your profile and customized for maximum impact, from the color of the car to the gender, voice and clothing of the virtual spokespeople used.” Click here for the full article.

Now, we’re not saying that targeting advertising is inherently negative because it can in fact be quite convenient at times. The grey zone is how the information has been collected and distributed to 3rd parties for advertising purposes and the degree to which users are targeted–Louis’ example is quite disturbing! Thus, there must be collective agreements made on what is appropriate, fair and beneficial, and what is unhealthy, and potentially harmful. This brings us to choice, and why you should care about it as the metaverse blossoms.

A recent prediction by Gartner suggests that “by 2026, 25% of people will spend at least one hour a day in the metaverse for work, shopping, education, social and/or entertainment”. In the physical world, when you spend one hour of your free time somewhere, it’s usually because something about the environment or experience appeals to you– you are choosing to be there. However, XR is a little different…That’s because a lot of the time that we spend online is actually habitual and somewhat mindless. It is with this, and everything else we’ve discussed up until this point in mind, that we seek to highlight the incredible importance of choice from the initial formation of the metaverse, to its more evolved state. Keeping the human at the centre of Web 3.0 reminds us that this technology is to enhance human life, not extract from it. By listening to and utilizing the opinions and feedback of users and community members, metaverse and GameFi projects can develop experiences that are not only curated to suit the wants and needs of the global community, but keep their safety and health in mind. Again, it’s like building a city but with greater awareness of and input from people with varying capacities/backgrounds so that more people can be empowered to fulfill their potential and gain greater freedom. Implementing choice in the metaverse as an infrastructure tool can determine architectural preferences, define social climates, stave off corporate dominance, ensure a level of quality control, and more than anything, keep the conversation between users, developers, and project teams fluid. Most of all, choice gives us the opportunity to have our virtual reality not just mirror our physical reality, but improve it. Let’s shatter the barriers between the two so that innovative solutions, imagination and global connectivity enrich every spectrum of our existence, together.

Earlier this month we introduced you to our proprietary blockchain mechanic, Choose-to-Earn (C2E). In our last article we provided some insight on the Philosophy of C2E, C2E User Functionality and C2E Broader Metaverse Integration. Today we’ll delve deeper into C2E, explore its variations, as well as highlight some of its user impact metrics.

C2E as a Game Mechanic & Self Governance Tool:

Those of you who joined our last Discord Founder’s Corner talk, may recall our Blockchain Advisor– Michał Szachno, talking about C2E representing a game mechanic as well as a self governance tool. That’s because C2E is designed as a sort of “plug-and-play” mechanic that any project/virtual experience joining our network may use to improve their ecosystem, and gain direct and valuable insight from their users, all while rewarding users for their votes and decisions. C2E can be regarded as a self governance tool in that user “voices” are represented via decisions/votes. These decisions and votes will help shape the future of the ecosystem, even to the degree of what projects will be built up and provided development support from our DAO, or what tools/weapons/geographic regions are available in the ecosystem. C2E will take different shapes depending on what project/game is using it and have greater or lesser influence on the ecosystem/gameplay itself. Above all, C2E serves as a powerful tool to both developers and everyday users.

C2E vs C4A:

By now you are aware of what C2E is and its various utilities but we have yet to introduce you to C4A — Choose-for-Allocation. C4A is the MVP/premier version of our C2E mechanics. C4A will focus on using choice-based mechanics for interactive and gamified lore building through storytelling with rewards in the form of token allocations. C4A will allow us to familiarize our community with C2E type decisions as well as reward them even before our TGE! C4A rewards users for true engagement thereby eliminating the potential of increased bot activity prior to our TGE; in other words, only real users are rewarded! As our main focus is on interactive and real engagement, C4A can also be extended to social activities (social mining) where off-chain activity (ie. social media engagement) can be rewarded on-chain in the form of increased scores and greater allocation earnings. C4A provides us the unique opportunity to start building a symbiotic relationship with our incredible community where our ecosystem may quickly improve based on the decisions of our users, and our users are rewarded with allocation for their quality engagement.

C2E User Impact Metrics and How They Work:

All Univers user choices will be permanently recorded on-chain enabling users and projects alike to create, and determine member time investment and corresponding community value. In the Univers ecosystem, impact, voting frequency/consistency, and total vote share (TVS) will allow our users to earn tiers. The elite voters with the most impact will have the opportunity to ascend to Arbiter status, where they can strive towards becoming the driving governors of the Univers ecosystem. User impact metrics represent a major opportunity for projects to establish it as their own DAO infrastructure– giving users feedback on their impact and giving them the opportunity to gain ranks.

Those of you who have been following Univers from the very start have watched our project evolve from broad concepts to brilliant realities. The Philosophy of C2E

C2E emerged from Univers’ fundamental belief that our community should be intimately involved in our decision making processes. This is to ensure our ecosystem (unlike many others) develops in ways that suit the needs and interests of our community. Many projects incorporate mild versions of these ideals however, C2E is one of our core blockchain mechanics and ensures our users are involved in high impact decisions that directly shape their Univers experience.

C2E User Functionality

C2E functions by rewarding users for their engagement with and feedback on Univers. We present users with high-level choices such as validating user experiences around the development of the network and providing opportunities for them to earn based on their time engagement. The more active a user is with Choose-to-Earn, the more compound rewards they will receive via $VRS through an auto-stake mechanism. Additionally, many of these choices will be presented to our users via captivating lore and immersive experiences. This means users will get to experience riveting entertainment and earn $VRS, all while sculpting the Univers ecosystem for the betterment of all.

Host: 2: Now please tell us about your project “Univers” What were the initial thoughts and motives behind this project?

Guest: We at Univers firmly believe the metaverse is the next stage in human technical evolution but has some inherent issues or failings that need to be addressed and resolved.

Metaverse experiences are largely centralized and disconnected from other metaverse experiences and projects. In addition, the parties currently investing money into the development of the metaverse are primarily centralized organizations known for forcing users to agree to unfair and questionable terms which grant them complete control over the user-generated data. These organizations raise huge ethical and proprietary concerns amongst users worldwide, making the metaverse experience less credible, less trustworthy and thus, less engaging.

Our solution is infrastructure and technology capable of harnessing the power of the blockchain while championing connectivity and interoperability between virtual experiences. We are building a diverse network of independent projects where every idea has the opportunity to be explored and thrive regardless of what is popular or trendy at the moment. Univers will connect metaverse experiences without trying to dominate or control them!

What is the ultimate vision that “univers_network” is trying to achieve within the cryptocurrencies market? Obviously the whole space will experience huge growth in the upcoming years, but what role would you like your project to play in this?

Guest: We want to be the premier solution for all metaverse projects. We plan to develop and build upcoming projects through our Univers Foundation which is our Game Maker’s Fund. Through this we will create a strong network of games, experiences and live events!

Host: 3 : What will the $VRS token mean for each project that enters the universe ecosystem? What will other project owners be able to do with $VRS and what advantages will they have? also how will he use $VRS tokens with his own tokens?

Guest: Having $VRS as the universal token will allow independent game studios to easily enter blockchain with an in-game economy ready to go.

This also means that there can be universal asset flows across each metaverse on the Univers Network. So all of the hard work that players have spent in customizing their avatars, levelling up their characters, collecting in-game items and assets can now be transferred seamlessly and frictionlessly across our network!

Guest: Our core team has extensive experience in developing AAA games and have produced some major hits in the past! As a sneak peak we are also developing our own in-game mechanics for the world of Avalon.

Avalon will be the community hub where users can enter via any of the mixed realities and explore ways to play and earn, including a live PVP-Arena, Marketplace, Live Event Spaces and Concerts. It allows users to not only meet and socialize within an immersive experience, but then directly access any other virtual experience connected to our network.

Guest: One of the killer features is definitely our link between the location based entertainment and the metaverse. We allow users to see what the immersion trully is with the help of our multiple locations!

Layer Zero is a data transfer layer running beneath Univers. It’s connected to our mother network (COSMOS based chain providing interoperability and security) and to metaverse based projects and gaming apps that enable horizontal scalability.

Layer Zero can be best understood as the data transfer layer. This layer is enabled by the IMC Protocol and a transport layer for metaverse smart contracts, facilitating their on-chain communication.
