VITian — VIT Student Application Redesign

This was my first UI/UX project, during the initial lockdown when, for the first time I discovered that I had unparalleled passion towards something and that being design. I was a final year engineering student and I realized that engineering is probably the second or last thing I wanted to pursue as my career.

This project helped me narrow my path to understanding what kind of a designer I want to be. I lost the plot somewhere during the last year but I am back to realizing what I set out to do and hence I wanted to showcase this project again.

Mission Statement

Create a minimalistic, visually pleasing college application that addresses the vital functions that students need on a day-to-day basis.

The idea was to put into test my newfound UI/UX skills to help solve a valid problem that would, if implemented rightly, accomplish helping a lot of students.

The current application was very badly designed, synchronization with our data was bad, a lot of unnecessary options that as students we don’t utilize and a lot of essential functions missed out.

Software

Adobe XD Photoshop.

Functions designed to make the new application

Schedule with a reminder that alarms where and when your next class is 10 mins before it starts.

A list of weekly pending digital assignments to submit.

A calendar to access, add and edit your co-curricular activities across the university. It also provides every student with updates on events conducted by the university.

A weekly timetable with all your classes for the semester with your current attendance %.

A detailed score section which helps you access your assignment scores for each of your subjects.

A overview of your curriculum details and summary of your performance.

A leave request form which previously could only be accessed via desktop or mobile site provided along with a leave history.

Access the design file with the wireframes and user flow

Looking back to this now, after 3 years of learning, exposure and how design languages have changed, I see how I can make this 100x better how it looks.

But I wanted to write this because of how I am proud of my journey and how with continuous learning, I know now I can create and design better products. The realization is very key to growing and I want everyone out there irrespective of whether or not being a designer, to keep learning and that’s how we grow as individuals.

Thank you
