Dfinance Blockchain Overview

We are happy to share that progress has been made on the new version of the Dfinance node — dstation. Along with this progress, we have updated the Cosmos SDK to v0.42.6 and Tendermint to v03.34.11. The updates fix the critical HDD space usage issue as well as the node synchronization issue. They also allow the continued support of the Dfinance blockchain by implementing new features and functionality. Since the changes were significant, validator nodes had to migrate to the new version — which was carried out successfully.

What Else?

Tokens Transfer

While developing the new version, we also researched the Cosmos Gravity Bridge with the main goal of enabling the transfer of assets between the Ethereum and Dfinance chains. Although preparations for the Gravity Bridge have already been implemented, the Gravity Bridge itself is not yet ready for production. Therefore, for the time being we will continue to use our Staking Gateway until there can be a stable release of the Gravity Bridge. The Staking Gateway can be used to transfer your XFI tokens to and from the Dfinance chain.

Along with that, the new version also enables the transfer of XFI tokens between accounts that are within the Dfinance network. Please note that only addresses that are connected through the Staking Gateway will remain eligible for rewards. Transferring your XFI tokens from the Dfinance chain to ERC20-XFI (=disconnect) using the Staking Gateway without withdrawing rewards to another Dfinance chain wallet address will result in your rewards remaining within the Dfinance network wallet and your account being marked as disabled. In this case, you will not be eligible to receive any rewards, but only your original ERC20-XFI balance.

XFI Staking

There are also changes to the inflation model in the new version that allow you to stake XFI and earn rewards while the inflation and block rewards are being updated to float between 20% to 7% per year. The goal for staking is 67%, which would reduce inflation to 7% per year. Lower amounts will increase inflation to 20% per year. It’s helpful to note that no inflation parameters are final and are subject to changes via governance.

LP Staking

LP staking has been disabled within the Dfinance node and will not be available for the time being. That being said, LP staking will probably be re-enabled at a later stage, but using an out-of-blockchain approach.

IBC

In its current form, as well as for security reasons, IBC requires Cosmos validators to integrate with Dfinance to allow the transfer of assets between blockchains. IBC will be enabled when this integration has been completed.

That is all for the current updates.
In the next article, we will tell you all about HLL development progress, and the changes!

Site \ Twitter \ Telegram

Dfinance Retrospective Overview of Work Done was originally published in Dfinance on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

In November 2020, we announced the development and upcoming launch of the first version of HLL (High Level Language). Today, we would like to update you on our progress.

Reminder

HLL is planned as the first programming language for financial smart contracts development that is fully human-readable. It will enable creating DeFi instruments with no-code/low-code skills.

The first use case

Over the last three months, our team was working to implement HLL to provide a no-code level of experience and now you are finally able to try it on Dfinance. The first available instrument is CDP (Collateralized Debt Position) deals.

Interface

Currently, HLL appears as text where you may replace preset parameters with your own; The magic actually happens under the hood. The end result of the process is a fully fledged smart contract deployed on Dfinance, based on the preset parameters. Here’s a peak of the UI:

We’ve developed the mechanics of CDP Offers that will enable lending out assets to other users, thus, earning more. And in order for this procedure to work well, we have compiled requests with two options on HLL: to create and use CDP Offers.

This mechanic is available on HLL, so that users don’t have to write all the code by themselves. You can create a CDP contract and become a mini-bank for borrowers or get a CDP from other users.

What’s next

Our next big milestone when it comes to HLL development is to work on scaling, increase its power, and add more tools and opportunities.

First, we plan to integrate additional instruments and to add the possibility to create compound dependencies in the requests on HLL. This will allow users to combine different instruments and compose more complex financial solutions. Our end goal is to turn the HLL into a universal environment that enables creating financial instruments and trading strategies without any programming knowledge.

We invite you to try out this new feature and leave us your constructive feedback. As always, please follow us on our social channels and share!

Site \ Twitter \ Telegram

Dfinance HLL Updates was originally published in Dfinance on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Meet the upgraded Dfinance Wallet!

We have been involved in a complex yet important task the past few months- our wallet’s redesign. It all started with the desire to develop a flawless user experience that would complement the functionality.

Finally, we have released the newly redesigned wallet, and we are glad to share it with you in a short walk-through.

Renewed Wallet and How to Use it

We have put a lot of effort into improving our wallet’s UI/UX design and making the user experience as comfortable as possible. The functionality has remained the same but is now presented in a more logical way.

We created more than 200 frames to make it possible.

Overall, the renewed wallet contains the maximum necessary functionality and less unnecessary information that might distract users from their goal.

-Dashboard

The Dashboard is the first page users see when opening the Dfinance Wallet. Here, you can perform and track all your manipulations with cryptocurrencies.

At the top of the page, you can see your up-to-date total balance and the wallet address, which can be easily copied. Below this block, you can find the information about your transactions, as well as all the latest actions performed with staking and proposals.

Here you can add more test tokens to your balance by clicking Request tokens.

On the same page, you can find the Send button. For now, you can only use it to send test currencies within the network. After clicking the Send button, you will see several fields, including the recipient’s wallet address. Everything is clear and simple.

If you click the menu button in the top left, you will find two other tabs (apart from the Dashboard) — Staking and Proposals. These tabs will allow you to take part in network staking and track local proposals respectively.

Let’s take a closer look at each of the tabs.

Staking

Here, you can easily monitor two of your balances — the total amount of cryptocurrency you have staked and the amount of staking reward. There are also two tabs below on the same page — Delegated and All Validators.

The Delegated tab shows all necessary details about the nodes, the delegated amount of SXFI, rewards, bank amount, and current status.

The All Validators tab showcases all nodes on the network, the number of delegators that joined these nodes, and up-to-date status. Also, there is a convenient calculation of the voting power and commission that nodes get from each transaction.

Proposals

In the Proposals tab, you can submit a software upgrade proposal or vote for existing ones. This allows any member of the community to introduce software improvements and contribute to the much bigger picture of the network.

In this panel, you can also see the status of existing proposals (passed, rejected, voting period, deposit period), duration of consideration of the proposal, as well as the amount of the reward.

Dfinance: Never stop improving

The main goal of this update was to simplify the wallet design, bringing the focus to the convenience and transparency of your work with cryptocurrency. We hope that our efforts won’t be in vain, and you will enjoy the new look of the Dfinance Wallet.

We’ve already released the updated redesigned version of the wallet, so you can try it right now. Just sign in and check it out yourself!

In the meantime, we are continuing to improve Dfinance, so stay tuned for more news!

*Please note, the Mainnet is in the beta stage.

Meet the upgraded Dfinance Wallet was originally published in Dfinance on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Hi everyone! We are happy to share some fresh project updates for all Dfinance supporters.

#1 Distributed Rewards

One of the major updates we’ve got at Dfinance is that we have distributed the rewards to the users who sent us their ERC-20 wallet addresses.

We want to thank the participants and congratulate all of those who have already received their well-earned XFI.

If you didn’t manage to provide your Ethereum address or didn’t want to receive allocation through the Ethereum network, you will get the rewards through our Dfinance mainnet in the near future.

If you have any questions regarding the Reward campaign or the distribution itself, you may share them via this form: https://dfinance.typeform.com/to/GDAMvzTj

#2 Cosmos Bridge launched

The next step of the Dfinance rewards allocation is closely connected to another piece of news — Cosmos has finally released the Bridge!

We are happy to hear about it, and we’d like to congratulate all the blockchain enthusiasts and the Cosmos team on such a great accomplishment in the first place.

What does this mean for the community? Well basically, Cosmos-based blockchains will be able to communicate via a standardized protocol, exchanging data and tokens. Besides, transactions in Cosmos blocks will be processed faster, and the cost of the commission will be decreased.

What other benefits are there? Full Cosmos Bridge integration will allow to boost nodes synchronization time by 96 times and updates time by 20 times.

For Dfinance users, this means new opportunities and functionality, and most importantly, the exchange of liquidity.

#3 Dfinance listed on CoinGecko

And last but not least, as most of you have already heard, now you can find Dfinance on CoinGecko!

We applied several times and finally found success!

CoinGecko is a data analysis system that provides a detailed overview of cryptocurrencies and blockchain activities around the world. Its distinctive features include the ability to monitor the price, volume of transactions, and market cap, take part in community growth, open-source development, major events, and chain metrics.

It’s a great step for the Dfinance team and our community, and we hope that there will be even more news like this in the future!

Stay tuned to learn more about our updates!

The Latest News: Reward Program, Cosmos Bridge and CoinGecko was originally published in Dfinance on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

More specifically, we will shed light on such features as CDP development and tools to automate smart contract creation. Besides, we will showcase how we plan to enhance our UI/UX design.

CDP Smart Contract Development

The main thing that will make participation in the Dfinance network even more comfortable is the Collateralized Debt Position (CDP) smart contact.

CDP smart contract is built to enable borrowing and lending cryptocurrency against another cryptocurrency. But unlike the centralized ways of lending, CDP brings more opportunities and security.

First, it does not require the participation of a third legal entity and is executed automatically due to a predefined algorithm. CDP contracts contain all the relevant information, including the property rights. Users don’t have to wait to ask for a centralized authority loan and hope for approval. Everything happens in real-time.

Second, Dfinance users will benefit from a highly secure CDP that is impossible to falsify. Since these contracts are based on the blockchain, they are immutable and decentralized. Once created, they cannot be deleted, edited, or altered.

And the most exciting part is that users will not need much to borrow funds. For taking a loan with CDP, they only need to provide collateral in cryptocurrency like ETH as a guarantee of repayment to secure a loan.

There are many other features and benefits of the CDP mechanics that we implemented into our platform. To learn more, you may look through one of our previous articles.

Automated Smart Contract Development

Another improvement we have recently added is the automation of the smart contract development process.

With this instrument, users will be able to create smart contracts in one touch. All you need is to add your contract’s text, select the required procedure, and leave it to compile and deploy. Just a few seconds — and you receive a ready-made smart contract that you can use to your benefit.

Refined UI/UX design

The last piece of news that we would like to share today is the upgrade of the platform’s UI/UX design. Currently, this task is still in progress.

Platform usability and user experience have always been our priority. For this reason, our team is actively working to bring new design concepts and make the interface more functional and aesthetically pleasing.

At the moment, we have created more than 30 new screens, and we plan to increase this number up to 100 soon.

We strive to bring you efficient tools and comfortable conditions for participating in the ever-changing world of DeFi. Stay tuned to learn more about our updates!

What’s New on Dfinance?

This means that we’ll have to close the Discord chat and stop moderating the Telegram group in Russian. As of now, the only official and moderated channel will be the English Telegram group.

We believe that this will allow us to improve our communication, reply faster, and be more helpful. Hopefully you’ll find it easier as well.

And finally, we would like to mention the Reward Program that we conducted last year, the development of the Dfinance, and our media channels.

Upcoming Wallet Design

As one more substantial news that we have to share is the ongoing work on the Wallet design. Our main goals are to increase its functionality, improve user navigation, and provide the best possible user experience. But, of course, the esthetic part of the job is also important.

Today, we are sharing a couple of introductory sneak-peeks of what to expect.

Reward Program Results

And finally, we would like to mention the Reward Program that we conducted last year. As you remember, in July 2020 we launched a Reward Program with a total prize pool of 125,000 XFI. We’d like to thank all the participants who created memes, shared information about Dfinance, worked on the technical tasks, and participated in other activities.

We’ve already calculated the outcomes of the campaign and got ready to distribute the rewards. As planned, we are going to finish the distribution by the end of January.

Yet, due to urgent development tasks, we won’t be able to pay out the rewards through our own chain. For this reason, we’ll transfer your well-earned XFI through the Ethereum blockchain.
In this regard, we ask you to fill out this form in order to know to which address we allocate your rewards.

https://dfinance.typeform.com/to/ouxT9Xxh

We are sure that everything will go smoothly, but in case you don’t get a reward or have any questions along the way, let us know, and we’ll solve the issue.

There are even more updates to come, so stay tuned!

Dfinance updates: Reward Program, Wallet, Community was originally published in Dfinance on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

Upcoming financial products.
Part 1. CDP

The time’s come to tell you more about the upcoming financial products — Collateral Debt position, or CDP, and Debt Risk Option, DRO.
This article is dedicated to CDP. You will learn what CDP is, what the use of this financial instrument is, and what to do with the money you get.

What is CDP?

CDP stands for Collateralized Debt Position. Basically, it’s a smart contract that allows the taking of a loan in cryptocurrency against another cryptocurrency.

But let’s make it simple. Today we will look at everything through examples.
Suppose we have one user, let’s call him Bob.
Suppose Bob decides to contact a centralized bank.

When Bob goes to a bank asking for a loan as a borrower, the bank, as a lender, considers his profile and credit reputation to decide if it’s going to give Bob that money.

In a decentralized crypto world, there’s no central body, which is a point of failure and risk. If Bob decides to take a loan in cryptocurrency, to make sure Bob pays the loan, he needs to provide collateral cryptocurrency, an asset that secures a loan, as a guarantee of repayment. If Bob fails to repay the loan, the CDP will be liquidated.

In that case, it means that the collateral cryptocurrency will be sold on a DEX or other steps to protect the lender can be taken.

How will CDP be implemented in Dfinance?

The Dfinance team is creating its own CDP, which will allow Bob to use ETH as collateral and in return receive XFI, the native cryptocurrency of Dfinance.

How many ETH does Bob need to deposit as collateral to receive x XFI?

The formula is quite simple: (xETH * $Сurrent market price)*50% = maximum amount of XFI a borrower can get.

In this formula, 50% is the risk the borrower takes against his collateral. This figure can be changed. We call this figure LTV or loan-to-value ratio, and the logic here is simple: the lower LTV — the lower the risk of default.

Example:
Let’s take a look at the following example. Imagine 1 ETH was worth $100. Bob wanted to deposit 5 ETH. In that case the maximum amount of XFI that Bob could get would be 250. But to take 250 XFI is less risky in terms of loan payback. Just because the liquidation can occur at a lower exchange rate. It means that your collateral is safer at the moment.

Why Use CDP?

Why can’t Bob just buy XFIs on Uniswap?

Of course, he may buy some XFI easily straight from Uniswap, but in this case, Bob has to pay for it and sell ETH to obtain XFI. But what if Bob does not want to sell his ETH, but wants to participate in the Dfinance ecosystem and get some XFI?

When it comes to CDP, Bob’s 5 ethers are not spent, they are secured in a smart contract until he pays back the amount he borrowed.

Ok, he gets XFI. What can Bob do with them?

With the XFI received, Bob may participate in the Dfinance network in many ways with the goal to get rewards in XFI and keep his ETH intact. Here are a few examples of what he might do:

Provide liquidity

Provide liquidity to Unswap to get a fee from any trades within the ETH/XFI pool as well as acquire the pool’s liquidity tokens (LPs) to use within the Dfinance system, and earn inflation rewards in XFI. Currently, the network allocates 48.25% of its inflation rate to LP stakers.

Stake XFI and become a validator.

A validator is a person who has set up a full node, a powerful computer which generates and signs new blocks. To become a validator, Bob is not only required to have sufficient equipment, but to also stake some XFI. For this work, validators get commissions in XFI.

Delegate

If Bob’s computer doesn’t meet technical requirements, he may delegate his XFI or LPT to a trusted validator. This means that these tokens are locked and can’t be used anymore. In return for that, delegators get fees from validators.

In the next article, we will take a closer look at DRO — Derivative instrument for CDP, where credit risk is transferred from one party (Risk Seller) to another (Risk Buyer) without transferring the underlying assets. We will break down this financial instrument, so stay tuned!

Website | Twitter | Telegram | GitHub | Blog | Discord | Documentation

Upcoming financial products.

Each use case will be as simple as ABC and allow users to achieve their goals with a good experience. All useful tools will always be on hand. Also, we’re working on updates to the look and feel of our panel. We will make it minimalistic, beautiful, and illustrative.

IBC

It seems the Cosmos SDK finally supports IBC protocol and we can now enable our IBC module to transfer assets and communicate between Cosmos-based chains.
It will take some time for us to launch our IBC messaging, but it’s worth it. So, most likely in a few months we will be ready to finally receive the first transfers from other blockchains.

Project Pontem

As we managed to successfully deliver the Dfinance mainnet, we are putting our focus on the next chapter in the Wings Foundation cross-chain initiative.

Our goal has always been connecting popular ecosystems, which enabled Wings Foundation products to derive maximum value for token holders.

Dfinance Mainnet

Today on the 16th of November, we are happy to release the mainnet version of the Dfinance blockchain! The development of the Finance protocol has been a long time coming, and today we are ready to announce some interesting news and updates.

During the last month, our incentivized testnet went ideally. It never went down and showed good performance, so we are going to keep the same genesis block for the next 2 weeks

We wanted to mention that our started mainnet does not require validators to update anything.

What’s next? We are going to launch a new network upgrade that will fix part of the non-critical bugs in the case of dnode, enable new kinds of gov proposals, and much more.

Also, domains will be switched, we are going to remove testnet mentions, as our testnet becomes the mainnet and we launch another testnet version just for developers.

What’s New?

Validator Statistic and Staked amount

During our incentivized testnet, we got 26 validators up and running. This is a good result for us, and we very much appreciate community members who set up and ran validator nodes or delegated XFI and LP tokens to existing validators.

More validator and delegator statistics can be seen in our explorer.

The network currently has 10,088,622 XFI staked, that’s around 44.8798% of total XFIs. It’s a large number and it’s continually growing.

Also 13,361 LP tokens were recently staked, that’s 2 times more than we had during launch time. That’s $174,868.12 in liquidity added to Uniswap in one time frame to the XFI / ETH pair.

That’s a pretty good result for us at the moment

Validator Security and Sentry Architecture

After some research, we resolved to increase our validator security by bringing in Sentry Architecture. This is infrastructure that allows validator nodes to hide behind sentry nodes, which helps mitigate DDoS attacks on validators, as well as other potential attacks.

We enabled this infrastructure for our nodes and recommend validators learn about sentry architecture and take this approach in the future when the network grows.

Rewards Distribution

As we are not able to move values between two chains yet (Ethereum and Dfinance/Cosmos), we are bringing a new solution to stakers. We will distribute validator and delegator rewards using the Ethereum network, and the first distribution will happen in a week.

We will use the same Ethereum addresses validators and delegators used on the Staking Portal. Once distribution is finished, we will announce.

Also, in the future, until the PegZone case has been resolved, we can repeat such distributions.

Understand that it’s not double your rewards as we will take any distribution on the Ethereum network into account.

PegZone and Staking portal

When we started developing the Dfinance network, we chose the Cosmos SDK because at that stage, it seemed the best solution to build your blockchain to us. And it’s true, Cosmos is very usable and a great system if you want to build your blockchain. It also has the IBC protocol, which allows you to build communication and value transfers between chains (which supports block finality). But the main feature we expected it to have is PegZone.

The Cosmos team started developing PegZone a few years ago, but it hasn’t hit production yet. Why? Because PegZone is an extremely complex tech that requires a lot of research, testing, auditing, and a great community. The Latest PegZone version developed in connection with the Cosmos team is Althea project PegZone, you can monitor it’s progress on their Github repository. It’s not too far from being released, so we expect to see it finally working soon.

As already mentioned, PegZone is complex tech and requires a lot of testing and a community. Community, as in a network of validators. These validators are usually necessary to move assets between two chains.

The validators that maintain PegZone must be known, be completely public and have passed the most thorough KYC, because current PegZone implementations and ideas bring a lot of risks. For example, it can be more profitable to steal funds from PegZone than to continue to secure PegZone and earn small fees, especially if validators are not honest. It’s just one of those cases. So, PegZone implementations require a lot of testing, security audits, and a great validator community.

Unfortunately, the Dfinance protocol even now is far from it. We could try to utilize the Althea version and use founders as validators, but this doesn’t bring a lot of security and trust, as PegZone will be very centralized and if some of us get hacked, it brings a lot of risks.

So currently, we resolved to keep our Staking Portal and staking contract as it is, while we’re searching for a way to solve this issue or while Cosmos blockchains will finally have PegZone working and we can just utilize it using the IBC protocol, like other chains.

Government proposals that solve validator problems.

We’ve launched two government proposals since our latest release and they both passed, which is great news for our community, and we thank everyone who participated! Now, let’s see how each proposal changed the Dfinance network step by step.

Proposal #1

The aim: To increase the slashing window for validators who missed blocks.

Issue: Slashing window for validators who missed blocks was previously around 10 minutes, which made validator infrastructure issues or regular validator updates extremely dangerous and hard.

Improvement: Now it’s been increased up to 16 hours, which has made infrastructure issues more convenient, simple, and safe.

Proposal #2

The aim: To solve the issue for community validators with small self-stakes, and to provide more people with the ability to be involved in the staking infrastructure.

Issue: Dfinance allows you to receive delegations only in amounts that are less than x10 that of the self-stake. So if you self-stake 1000 XFI, the maximum delegations you can get is 9000 XFI (1000 * 10–1000).

Improvement: We increased the ratio from x10 to x10000, so low self-stakes are not an issue anymore.

Both proposals passed smoothly, without triggering any network issues. You can look at both proposals in our API.

Our Community Heroes

We are always very happy when our community members are active! We really appreciate it and want to tell you today about two of our remarkable members:

1First of all, we would like to mention @Endijs! He developed missed blocks explorer for us and previously he wrote a great article that describes how to set up a node and become a validator on the Dfinance network. @Endijs has his own validator on the Dfinance network called “new-era”, so enjoy voting for him.

2 Another community member @greenbrx has also helped us a lot!
