man i'm boring
May. 18th, 2009 10:32 pmSo, er, hi internets. I went to Ottawa and then I came back. It rained a lot on both ends of the trip. In Ottawa I ate a lot of samosas and looked at a lot of tulips. Saw Star Trek. Spent Mother's Day doing a jigsaw puzzle with my mom and then meeting the rest of the family (wee nephews included) for dinner. Here are some pictures, mostly of flowers and birds, from Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver and Commissioners Park in Ottawa..
On my last day in Ottawa I had a vague aching of the jaw; once I got home it continued. I procrastinated actually calling the dentist, thinking hopefully that maybe I had been grinding my teeth in my sleep again which just causes me temporary issues, only then on the weekend (a holiday weekend no less) it turned into actual pain around a tooth I had work on last month and then I woke up with that side of my face all swollen which was quite alarming. So I ended up at the (non-dental) walk-in clinic and they agreed with me that probably it is an abscess which it seems must be correct since the antibiotics I am on now have made it somewhat better. Tomorrow when the dentist is actually in I shall have to see what they think. (Probably the dentist thinks "root canal," while I think "yank the sucker.")
Also I have been working on things for a chocolatier class I am taking, though mostly of the reading and writing sort of thing and not the making and eating sort. Also, doing a lot of laundry and standing-on-the-deck-shaking-blankets. For some reason my orange cat is shedding at least two cats' worth of fur every week, it's ridiculous. Also, while I was writing this just now he horked up a giant hairball practically the size of his head. At least he missed the clean blankets.
Telebision: yes, I watched much. Though mostly of the random-rerun sort in Ottawa and some lovely random episodes of Star Trek and Stargateses on an airplane. Also, I am delighted that Castle, Dollhouse, and Chuck were renewed. Not so delighted about Sarah Connor's non-renewal, though I have secret hopes that the slightly dumb-looking new movie will cause them to want it back somehow. I think maybe I should go back to not thinking about this and only thinking "yay!" thoughts about shows of which there will be more. Leverage will be new soon, I am glad.
I have nothing much to say about Star Trek right now, I think I truly expected it to be horribly terrible, so on actually coming out of the theatre I was pretty impressed with the shininess of it all but am somewhat less so now. I do nearly always enjoy seeing movies in the theatre (since I do it so rarely) especially if there are spaceships and explosions and regardless of actual plot. Overall it was a Star Trek movie all right, and of all the others it was probably better than many though certainly not my favourite by any means. I sort of want to watch the one with the whales now, I wonder if I have it around here somewhere.

I have a way? Is that better than a plan?
May. 3rd, 2009 08:50 pmSo I'm spending Tuesday afternoon in Vancouver before catching a plane to Ottawa to visit my mom, nephews, and the tulips. I don't really have a plan for the day on the mainland; maybe I'll go to Queen Elizabeth Park and the conservatory? Probably it will rain. Likely I will have some random and incoherent things to say in 140 characters or less during the trip, especially on the ferry as that is usually pretty boring (but super-pretty. Except probably it will rain.)
Also don't have much of a plan for Ottawa, which is nice - just doing whatever comes up. I'm staying at my mom's, and vaguely planning to see Star Trek with both of my sisters. I can't remember the last time the three of us hung out together, and now we live in different cities, so that will be awesome. Also, there will be nephew pictures. There are three of them now. Nephews, I mean, not pictures. Yay, nephews!
I put on the Dr Horrible DVD while I was packing up the chocolates I made that I'm taking to my mom's, and now for some reason I have Mr Terrible's song stuck in my head. I prefer Lord Stabbington really.
You know what's awesome? Google Maps has transit times & directions for Vancouver, so I don't need a plan. (After all, what I plan and what takes place ain't ever exactly been similar. Oh great now I want to watch Firefly. Too much to do! Must stop procrastinating and watching TV! Although tomorrow I can probably do laundry/pack and watch TV at the same time. That's multitasking.)

Oh god, another day gone and all I accomplished was obtaining two lemons and some cream. Rode bike to the store, forgot to bring water; cursed the fact that I live up on a hill all the way home, as usual.
I feel almost certain that I had something else I was going to say, but my head hurts. I suppose I could get off the computer. OR, I could make Futurama icons. hmmm.

I'm awfully delighted to learn that Thrifty Foods is doing away with plastic bags entirely starting in a couple of months. And probably overly delighted at the way other people (ahem, family members) are ever so slightly grumpy about it. I bring my own bags, it's not that hard. Thrifty's sells nice cloth bags for like fifty cents or something anyway, though they're not as awesome as my vast collection of bags; my current favorites are this one with excellent handles and this one that folds up tiny.
Oh hey, my icons are not recognizing my paid account. Shall probably go look to see if that's a known issue or whatever.

Am becoming slightly concerned that this swine flu thing is going to turn into a panic that affects my flight next week. Overly paranoid I'm sure; I'm only flying across Canada. But it was really irritating when the no-liquids panic happened the same week I flew a few years ago. Possibly am spending too much time on Twitter.
Trying to get some things written that are due during the time I'll be away; keep getting distracted by shiny internets. Also having hard time not mentioning Skynet or Cylons in one paper, which is absurd since it's about methods of tempering chocolate. (and then why it's important not to rely on machines...I can't help it.)
Things I intend to do Real Soon:
- get chocolates for my mother finished before I leave to visit her (unless somehow time travel invents itself so I can do it after)
- do Buckaroo Banzai things including finish gorram screencaps and edit/upload those pictures with random watermelons. It's the 25th anniversary of the "documentary" this year.
- clean my bedroom, which is ridiculously cluttered at the moment
- uh, actually post things in futurama comm I made here (yeah)

What does your drawing say about YOU?
The results of your analysis say:
You tend to pursue many different activities simultaneously. When misfortune does happen, it doesn't actually dishearten you all that much.
You have a peaceful mind, viewing the world with calm and serenity. To you, life is not about struggle and strife but about existence and co-existence.
You like following the rules and being objective. You are precise and meticulous, and like to evaluate decisions before making them.
You have a sunny, cheerful disposition.
(huh. true enough. also, clearly i am a TALENTED ARTIST. haha. I think I was drawing what I see out my window. that is sposta be a ferry.)

Apr. 25th, 2009 08:28 pmI used to take a lot of photos. It seems like I used to be better at it, too. Oh well. Here are some of my recent pics:

Time passes so quickly. I feel like there are just a few moments that happen each day and I don't know where the rest of the hours go.
Yesterday I was on the way home from Value Village, where I found some awesome pants and a Ballantine Best Of I didn't already have (Frederik Pohl) and where I watched some weirdo get kicked out for being a racist creep. Um, anyway, on the way home I took a different path than I'd taken on the way there. I could see part of the other path (which goes through a park) and there was a fire truck there with lights on. Probably best I missed whatever that was, I guess (though I would kind of like to know what it was.) I got to a particular bit of the path and was just overwhelmed with the feeling that it was so beautiful and I had to stop and look around for a few minutes. Which is sort of weird because it's not like I haven't been on that trail eight million times and it just goes beside the highway, nowhere exotic or anything. But the sun was high and the hill was so round and the day just seemed so perfect. In retrospect I maybe got too much sun yesterday.

Apr. 21st, 2009 07:16 pmOh TV. Just laughed so hard I nearly choked and had to step away from the show. Castle: It Has Nathan Fillion. I don't really care if the show is even good (sometimes it is.) Patrick Bauchau was on this one, yay.
Today I did not do very much but did call the lawyer (I am notorious for putting off telephonic chores) and went to the library and also crocheted two coasters and untangled my big bag of yarn with my cat's helpful assistance. And also I had an accidental three-hour nap after taking a muscle relaxant because I couldn't find the ibuprofen and I had cramps.
My head hurts quite a lot now and I can't remember what the other thing was I was going to write. Still can't find ibuprofen. Could I be all out? That seems unpossible. More likely I just Put It Somewhere.

Apr. 20th, 2009 05:56 pmToday I was planning to Do Something: first I thought maybe I would go to Vancouver which I am intending to do soon, but then I have to get up early to catch the ferry and I didn't, so I didn't. Then I thought, well maybe I'll go to the thrift store, I've been meaning to do that too. But it looked like it was going to rain and it's a tedious trip uphill to get home and I really just didn't feel like shopping so I didn't. Then I thought, well, I could go up to the lake, that's so close, all I need to do is put my shoes on and grab my camera or something. But apparently this wasn't a "put my shoes on" kind of day. I did go inspect the garden. (It did not, in fact, actually rain at all.) I'm not sure walking around the perimeter of the house in bare feet counts as Doing Anything. Though it was quite nice. I don't really like wearing shoes.
Apparently I am just named after myself now, instead of being
cleverocity. Since I am getting lazier and lazier this seems easiest.
