MKVtools Überblick
MKVtools ist Teil der VIDEOtoolbox-Suite von Anwendungen, die für die Erstellung und Bearbeitung von MKV-Videos verwendet wird. Für Benutzer der ursprünglichen MVtools (d.h. MKVtools 2) könnte die Namenskonvention etwas verwirrend sein. Dies ist eine neue und verbesserte Version der Anwendung, die sich auf das konzentrieren wird, was die ursprüngliche Version nicht sehr gut konnte - die Erstellung und Bearbeitung von MKV-Dateien. Es wird jedoch keine MP4- oder AVI-Dateien erstellen. Wenn Sie Videos in MP4 oder AVI konvertieren möchten, sollten Sie entweder MP4tools oder AVItools ausprobieren. Wie der Name schon andeutet, ist MKVtools eine grafische Benutzeroberfläche für eine Vielzahl von Tools, die nützlich sind, um Videodateien zu verarbeiten.
Funktionen:
- Konvertieren von verschiedenen Video-Dateiformaten wie MKV, MP4, OGM und AVI in MKV-Videos
- Kann die meisten Videos konvertieren, ohne die Videospur und/oder die Audiospur neu zu codieren, sodass die Verarbeitung Minuten statt Stunden dauert und keine Qualität verloren geht
- Vereinfachte, intuitive Benutzeroberfläche, die das Rätselraten bei der Verarbeitung von MKV-Videos beseitigt
- Fähigkeit, verschiedene Surround-Sound-Audios in 5.1 AC3 oder 5.1 AAC zu konvertieren
- Intuitiv gewünschte Video-, Audio- und/oder Untertitelspuren zur Verarbeitung auswählen, mit der Möglichkeit, die Auswahl mit einer Video-Vorschau zu überprüfen
- Voreinstellungen für eine automatisierte Kodierung und Spurenauswahl definieren
- Untertitelspuren in das Video einbrennen (d.h. hart kodieren) oder muxen (weiche Untertitel) aus internen Spuren oder externen Untertiteldateien, die häufig im Internet zu finden sind
- Steuern Sie die Schriftart, Größe und Positionierung der eingebetteten Untertitel
- MKV-Videos in Segmente einer bestimmten Dateigröße oder nach Start-/Endzeit aufteilen
- Die Header-Entfernungskompression eines MKV-Videos deaktivieren, um die Kompatibilität mit Wiedergabe und Bearbeitung zu erhöhen
- MKV-Videos zusammenfügen
- Die ausgewählten Spuren aus MKV-Videos als einzelne Video- und/oder Audiodateien extrahieren
- Jobs entweder einzeln oder in Chargen über Drag & Drop in eine Warteschlange hinzufügen, sodass Sie mehrere Dateien über Nacht verarbeiten können (nur registrierte Kopien)
- Eine Einstellung auf eine Gruppe von Dateien für einfache Batch-Erstellungen anwenden (nur registrierte Kopien)
- Einen "Überwachungsmodus" aktivieren, in dem MKVtools alle Videos verarbeitet, die in einen definierten Ordner gelegt werden (nur registrierte Kopien)

iDealshare VideoGo, the professional Subtitle Extractor, can easily extract subtitles from MKV, MP4, VOB, TS, AVI, MPG, FLV, WMV, SWF, and etc on Windows 8/7/Vista/XP or Mac OS X (Mavericks included).

MKVtools 3.6.6 is the current version, and the occasion for me to leave a review. ;-)
Well... you can read my review of MP4tools as it's basically the same tool but for MP4. :-D
A difference with MP4tools is essentially that there's at least one free alternative that works great: MKVtoolnix. But although it works ok, I must say I prefer the simplicity of the interface in MKVtools.
In fact, I wonder why they don't make a single MP4&MKVtools app, as the only difference I can see is the output container! — As many of you might know, you can remux the contents of MP4 to MKV and vice versa without having to convert anything.
If you don't need any conversion — or if you already bought MP4tools ;-) — Remux.app might be enough.

IOW: Yes, it's being regularly updated, despite the stagnation here at MU.

I use this every day, version 3.5.3. I do not do any recoding, but pull out subtitle files and rebuild MKV files. Rock solid. Fast. A somewhat quirky UI but understandable.

Hi,
It seems this nice project is stalled and isn't maintained anymore :-(
Last update on MacUpdate is from May 2014... The website offers more recent versions, but it seems update do not happen on a regular basis. It's like the dev is working on it when he has time. Do I have to mention that NO support is offered ? You can try to send a mail. I don not think you'll get an answer.
And that all is really too bad. Why ? Simply put because MKVTools is a really nice app. It doesn't offer as much tweaks as Handbrake, but if you're looking for an app that will convert your 30GB large .mkv file to a 12GB .mkv file, leaving out unneeded soundtracks and subtitles, with a minimum of hassle, then this is the way to go !
And I can only say one thing : the output is simply astonishing... the result looks really great on my 55" display... Of course : that has it's price. Encoding times aren't the fastest. But it at least uses 100% of computing power (2 X Xeon 2.93Ghz) but it's really worth the wait :-)
On the darker side : it sometimes just "refuses" to compress. Clicking "Convert" only produces a .log file. Like if everything is set to "pass-through". But it isn't. So probably something wrong at creating the preference file ?
Really hope to see this dev continue it"s development for MKVTools.
