Time for an Update!

I used to be really good at this blogging thing, but now it seems that I am way to busy or way too tired. Things have been going really great for us lately so I thought I would share a little.

Nursing school is going GREAT! I love it! The first few weeks we learned about different theorists and developmental stages...etc. but now we are starting to learn about nutrition and metabolism so its starting to become more applicable. The drive to Cheyenne is a drag, but now we're done with labs and just waiting for clinicals to start after spring break, so I only have to be over there 2-3 days a week usally. The weather has been AMAZING! There has only been about 2 or 3 days total that we have had to leave a little early to accomodate the snowy roads, but there are three other people that I drive over with so it breaks it up a little. Besides those few days, the roads have been dry and clear, except the wind of course, which happens even in the summer. In the past few weeks we had the class officers elections, and since I was the only one who wanted to be the "Class Representative" I got voted in! Yay for me! I still meet with the other class officers, i.e. the president, vice president, but I get to be a representative for our class at the faculty meetings with all the instructors once a month. By the way, all of the instructors are amazing! To teach nursing school at LCCC you must have/or be working on your masters degree so these ladies are really smart! Anyway, that's about everything on nursing school... When we're done with this semester we will all have our CNA certification so we can go get jobs for the summer...yippee!

Because I'm so busy with school and commuting, I am not working this semester which leaves my wonderful, hardworking hubby do all the work. He still works for StarTek, for a week and a half more... They are laying him off by the end of March so he went and got a different job and put in his two weeks. He is so excited to not have to sit in front of the computer all day! He will be working for our Stake President who has a painting company and he will be painting houses for a living. He's pretty excited about that! He is going to school too and will be able to apply for the Pharmacy Program this fall (to attend next fall). He is taking the second dose of Organic Chemistry... He likes those classes. NOT ME! O-Chem 1 would have been enough for me, now he's taking O-Chem 2. No thank you!

As for Bosco, well he definately keeps us on our toes. He spends most of the day sleeping but when he's alert and awake, he is actually a really smart dog. He knows the word "outside" and knows that it really means the outdoors, not just potty. He knows and loves the word "car ride." He loves to ride in the car! It is amazing, when we go to my parent's house, we are a block away and Bosco somehow knows where we are and starts barking and wagging his tail to see Maddy and Lucy (My parents Shi Tzu's who HATE him). My favorite thing about him is that he hates the mud... This is really great because our lanscaping is not quite done and when the snow starts to melt on the dirt--well it becomes mud. Yesterday I put him outside to go potty and somehow he trampled through the mud and got into the firepit. I couldn't see him from the back door and he wasn't coming when I called him. I looked out the side window of the house and he was standing in the firepit, trying to get out. But everytime he stuck his paw on the ground there was soggy, red mud and he was not going to step in it again. We eventually had to bribe him with treats to make him come back inside, which meant a bath for our muddy paws. He is such a character! He won't even walk through puddles when we take him for walks.

So there's the life of The Winters' lately. Nothing terribly exciting but we are happy and love spending time together as a family of three! :) Hopefully I will be able to update more often.

And this year's post is.....

Top 10 Countdown

This year has definitely been a great one for Mike and I, but not as profound as last year. It was hard to beat buying a house and getting a puppy, but as with life, it has its challenges and rewards! I hardly ever get on here anymore to update everyone on our lives, only for our yearly christmas letter! I know, so lame! So here it is... the top 10 events of 2010.

#10 We got rid of our little Geo Metro (AKA: the golden bullet, the pregnant rollerskate, the 0oik9booger) and bought ourselves a 4-cylidner Toyota Tacoma. It’s pretty old but Mike got it all spic and span with new tires and a few replacement parts. Mike now has a way to get to the mountains to go fishing, and my 16-year-old brother has a golden vehicle to call his own.

#9 I quit my job at Perkins, which started to destroy my morale! I looked for a job for almost 9 months and finally found one! I currently wait tables at a little steak house in Centennial, Wyoming which means a 27 mile commute for 4 days a week. It is much better for me!  Some day I won’t be a waitress… someday….

#8 Mike still works at StarTek as an Escalation Tech. It’s a pretty mundane job but it works with his school schedule so he bites the bullet and just does it. The good thing is that he is working from home now! The site where he was working got shut down and they laid-off all but 40-something people. Luckily Mike was one of the ones who got to keep his job! Yay!

#7 We have had to replace a few belongings of ours, which means getting new stuff, but it also means spending money! Yuck! A few weeks ago, our washer and dryer both died so we had to get new ones. We even took the old ones to the salvage yard and they paid us $16 dollars! Now we’re rich. Not.

#6 We got a new laptop! It is newer and nicer than our old one, but we didn’t buy it just because we wanted to, Bosco ate a few of the keys off of the old one and after that, it lost its will to live.

#5 At some point, most of you knew this would probably come up, but the longest continual event of this year was our dog Bosco eating almost everything he could get his slobbery mouth on! He ate things like, tinfoil, candy wrappers, Oreos, couch cushions, lights and ornaments off of the Christmas tree, even the wall. He definitely keeps us busy!

#4 Mike and I still have callings in the Primary. I am the second counselor in the presidency and he teaches the CTR 7 class. We both love the kids! They most definitely teach us more than we teach them!

#3 Mike took one of the hardest classes of his life, Organic Chemistry, and passed! Yippee! Now he just has to take Organic Chemistry II this upcoming semester. Hopefully he will make it out alive? Then he will be ready to apply for Pharmacy School.

#2 I got into Nursing School in Cheyenne! I will start commuting on January 13th and will receive my LPN when I have finished in 2 years! We are so excited! It’s nice to know that I have exactly 2 more years of school.

#1 The most important thing this year is that we have stayed healthy and happy! We have been very blessed and lucky to have all of the things we do! We love living in Laramie, for now and will probably be in school until we die but I know we will get through it!

We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and an extraordinary year to come!
Love, Katie & Mike

NEW POST! ... Can you believe it?!?

Image
Hi everyone, You probably don't even remember who we are since I never post anything anymore so I figured it was about time for some updating. We wrote a new year's letter so I think I'll just post it on here and you can read all about us....

Greetings to All Our Family and Friends!

You can probably tell by the date you receive this letter that’s it’s a little late for a Christmas letter so, HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have had a great year and one of the biggest things we did was that we bought a house at the end of June. During this big adventure, we learned “how to” do a lot of little projects. (Mike put in all of our tile and wood floors—and I even helped grout one of the bathrooms) So here’s all of the things we learned “How To” do this year.

January-May (well, all year really)
How To: Go to School
1. Have motivation to get a better job than the one you have now (I am a waitress at Perkins and Mike is a technician at a data entry job here in Laramie) 2. Attend class (easy enough right? Mike is Pre-Pharmacy and applies to the program this fall and I am a nursing major applying in the fall for next spring semester.)

May-July
How To: Buy a House
1. Have a Mom who knows about the loans and tax credits. 2. Find an AMAZING deal on a first time home buyer loan to fit your budget 3. Find the house you want (it was still under construction when we decided to get it) 4. Move in with the parents for a few months until construction is complete (which includes becoming the 15-year-old teenager’s second set of parents and also his taxi) 5. Install tile and wood flooring to upgrade the house during construction. (Mike did a FABULOUS job with the help of my Dad) 6. Make the purchase and move in, in the rain (That was fun...)

August
How To: Celebrate 1 Year Anniversary (and both birthday’s in one week)
1. Get married one year prior 2. Talk about what to do for your anniversary/birthdays. 3. Decide to do some landscaping for our new house 4. Put in a sprinkler system and a lawn (that’s why I married a handyman) – We did go to Denver for our anniversary weekend for some shopping and Mike got me a piano for my birthday!

September-December
How To: Add a New Member to the Family:
1. It’s a BOY!! (Sorry to let you down, it’s a dog not a baby... haha) 2. Go get him in Colorado Springs when he’s 8 weeks old 3. Name him Bosco 4. Teach him how to fetch 5. Teach him how to go potty outside (yes, he played fetch before he even went potty outside even once, silly dog!) 6. Teach him how to sit 7. Make sure he snuggles a lot and gets a lot of treats 8. Now he’s potty trained!!!! YEAH!

By now, Mike could probably be a contractor, and we could teach everyone the best way to clean up little puppy “messes” so if you’re ever in the need—we can teach you all of the things that we learned “how to” do this year. We hope you have a great and safe new year!

Love, Mike, Katie & Bosco

P.s. I will post some more pictures tomorrow or something, It's dad's birthday so we're going over to celebrate...

You're Too Big For a Wagon!!!

It's been a little bit since I've updated and so here's the latest. This past week has been hard for me, I really have been letting people get under my skin and I get pretty aggrivated at work. Luckily, tomorrow is Dress Down Friday so we all get to wear jeans instead of dress pants. I love Fridays. Enough complaining....

This past weekend Mike and I went with my parents and brothers and met my aunt and uncle and cousins at a condo in Steamboat, CO. One of my mom's friends owns a condo down there and was so generous to let us stay there for a few days. It was BEAUTIFUL and the weather was so nice! We walked around downtown for shopping, went bowling and played games. It was really fun and relaxing to get out of town for a few days.

My mom has just made the tragic decision to start drinking Pepsi again, and as many of you know, she's a Pepsi-holic. Seriously. It is a problem. This weekend when she decided to start up her addiction again, we were eating some delicious lunch in at the condo and someone brought up the fact that she fell off the Pepsi wagon. Immediately, my 2 1/2 year old cousin said, "You're too big for a wagon..." We all laughed and kept eating... Kids are so funny!! I had a great time playing with him. He also had a blast bowling after he figured out that he could throw a ball without getting in trouble. Here's a few fun pictures of bowling:

My unlce that we spent time with this weekend is on YouTube!! and since tomorrow's Friday, I think this one's appropriate!

Fireproof your marriage!!

Right now Mike is out on splits with the missionaries so I'm home. I should be doing dishes but I would rather waste my time on the computer looking at blogs. Right before the missionaries got here we had just watched a FANTASTIC (and very cheesy movie I might add)... I kinda had to force Mike into watching it but I don't think he minded very much by the time it was over. It's pretty good. It's called "Fireproof" starring Kirk Cameron from the oh so great "Growing Pains" as Mike Seaver. The actual site can explain it better so here's the link. Watch the trailer... its so great.. and don't forget to turn your music down and your sound up!! http://www.fireproofthemovie.com

Ok, ok. I know what you're thinking... CHEESY!! But REALLY you need to watch this movie. There are parts (ok, like all of it) is pretty bad acting but the story is really great! (Even Mike got a little bit into it--but don't tell anyone). Seriously! Rent this movie!! Rent it at RedBox, so at least if you think it's awful you will have only paid one dollar... believe me! This movie really changes your outlook on life! It's worth it!

Oh and don't forget to tell me what you think? I'm curious! It's my challenge to you!!

6 months already!!

It has been 6 months since we got married! I can't believe it! It has also been FOREVER since I've updated my blog...Sorry to everyone--especially Aunt Niecy for not keeping you all updated!! :S So where do I start?

School: I've started up school again, just retaking classes so I can try to get into the Dental Hygiene program. I'm only taking 6 credits and they are classes I've taken already so I've got it fairly easy. They are night classes though so thats not so much fun but hopefully it will be worth it. I apply for the program again in August and if I get in I will attend LCCC in cheyenne starting in January next year. We still don't know what we will do, whether we both move there or one of us will just commute since it's only 45 minutes away... I guess we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there. Mike is also finishing up his classes at LCCC. (He's taking night classes as well.) He's changed majors a few times and now that he's a Pharmacy major its time to go to UW, but he has to take 6 more credits to finish his graduation requirements for his associates of general studies....so exciting I know but it gets him to UW. He has about a year or so left of prerequisites and then he can also start applying for his program.

Work: I still work at perkins and I've gotten a few raises in the past few weeks. I am now a trainer and I love it. On Monday's I babysit the Bishop's little girl for a few hours and I have the day off but I have one class at 3 so its nice not to work. I only work about 29 hours a week but the money I make in tips is about the same or more that I was at the mortgage compant. Mike still works at a data entry kinda place that he doesn't mind very much but there are definately some better jobs out there. He's been playing in a small basketball league that the city does at the rec center with some guys from work so that has been fun for him. I like to go watch him play since he loves the game so much.

Our Apartment: We are still in the same basement which we love a lot, but the owners are selling it the whole house. They have been showing the it quite a bit over the past few weeks so we've also been looking for a new apartment to move to...hopefully we can find one that we like since we will be in laramie for a while longer.

Our Ward: Another bad thing about looking for a new apartment is that we really want to stay in our ward. We are just starting to get to know everyone and we also love our callings. Mike is the Ward Mission Leader which keeps him (and me) busy :) and I am the Faith in God Leader for the 8-11 year old girls. It's so fun I learn so much from them and it is definately helping me to become more patient. I also took on the duty of taking pictures of everyone in the ward and putting them on a bulliten board at the church... what a job! whew! I have them mostly done though so thats good.

It's already been 6 months since we have gotten married!! I can't believe how fast time flies! Over Valentine's weekend we took a trip down to denver and stayed in a hotel and then went to the temple and did some shopping the next day. It was really fun to get out of laramie for a few days and just spend some time together. And thats really all that we've been up to lately... not much else is going on... pretty boring life. Hopefully I will get to update this again soon... :)

Recently in the life of the Winters!....

So I got laid off of my job at the mortgage company sso I don't get to sit around all day and surf the internet and get paid for it... Also, we don't have internet at our apartment so right now, I'm at the college waiting for Mike to get done with class. I am now a waitress at Perkin's. So far I love it for the fact that there is actually SOMETHING to do, but I am on my feet all day. It makes me really tired at night.

Mike is still working hard as ever in school and in work so I don't see him much except in the evenings after his night classes. He is going hunting back home this weekend and I have to work on Friday so I won't be able to go with him. This will be the first weekend since we have been married that we will not sleep in the same bed for a few nights. Sad! :(

I just got the calling of the Achievement Days leader so I get to spend every wednesday at 4 with 8-11 year olds. I love it so far! My girls are awesome! Mike is the Ward Mission Leader so he gets to meet with/talk on the phone to the missionaries almost every night! It's really keeping him busy! AND ME!! haha I guess thats usually how it goes (the supportive wife role;) )

He has also now started a basketball league thing for work so on top of working, school, and a busy church calling, he practices about once a week for this upcoming season.... we'll see how good they are.... ha

Well I'm off to try to sell some MaryKay product! :) wish me luck!
