Watch Aubrey Grow - 5 Months

Aubrey is 5 months old!

and I just realized that her name blanket wasn't on the back of the chair.  :-(  It's the thickest blanket we have for her and I used it to cover her carseat to shield her from the cold and wind the other day.  oh well!

Caleb's Masterpieces - Fall/Winter 2011

Now that Caleb goes regularly to MDO (twice a week), he brings home plenty of adorable artwork for Daddy and Mama to enjoy! He also brings some home from Sunday school, so between those two we have quite the little art collection. I plan on getting a notebook and plastic page protectors and starting a little book of his masterpieces. I will cherish these forever!

Oh, and there are a lot of pictures here.  With the exception of a few that he shredded to bits before I could save them, this is everything he's brought home this semester (from end of August until now).

This was the first thing he brought home from MDO at the end of August.  "My New Friends"  How sweet!

Umm, not sure what this is!

Not exactly sure about this one either....I'm thinking maybe a nose?  a runny nose?  (for Jesus healing sick people)  Any guesses?!  :-)

This is from when they did some things with apples at MDO...

Now I know Caleb inherited his Dad's "full" lips, but the person at church who drew this got a little carried away, LOL.  This one is on the side of our fridge and when Caleb sees it, he yells "blue eyes!" so I guess they talked about eye color when they did this?

Caleb works in many mediums, including chalk!

more chalk drawing (hard to see)

Hard to read, but it says "The Bible is from God" underneath Caleb's lovely brown coloring...

Whoever helped him with this gets a gold star for getting him to actually cooperate!  These are the best handprints of his that I have ever seen!

Image

He made this Noah's Ark at MDO.  The tan colored spots on the ark WERE the animals.  They used animal crackers, so I think you know what happened to Noah's poor animals.  The teacher just laughed when she told me that Caleb didn't let them stay on the ark for too long.  What do you expect with a 2 year old and animal crackers?!

Image

And this is his "countdown to Christmas" tree from MDO.  He gets to eat one every day this month up until Christmas.  He NEVER forgets to ask for one either!  He just calls them "kissmas!"  (not meaning to even though they are Hershey's Kisses....he just mis-pronounces Christmas!)

goodie bag from MDO.  Didn't he do a good job decorating the tree?

isn't his ornament from MDO adorable?

Ok, this one is my absolute favorite so I wanted to save it for last.  Every time I see this one, I just crack up because it is perfectly Caleb!  (you will soon see...)

Image

Can you guess why this just has "Caleb" written all over it??

Image

Because Caleb is all about DESTRUCTION these days!!  I mean, you put something in that boys hands and he will find a way to break it, rip it, tear it, shred it....destroy it!!  I can just see his teacher giving him these foam stickers to put nicely into his "Read to Me Bible" and the first thing he does is rip them to pieces!  I cannot stop laughing when I see this!

Image

I don't remember dinosaurs in the Bible, but even he was not spared!

Image

This poor purple guy didn't stand a chance.  Also, take note of the blue dinosaur head.  If you notice, he only tore up the things with heads and limbs....he left the flowers and the ichthus in tact.  Oh wait, he did spare the caterpillar!  I would hate to see a psychologist get ahold of this.

And last but not least, a little artwork at home.....on the wall............

(a little hard to see, but that's blue crayon)

and chair......

I was a little lazy and didn't clean it off for a few days, so every time he walked by the wall or chair, he would point at it and say "Caleb do dat!"  LOL

1, 2, 3, 4........

In addition to her monthly bear pictures, I have also been taking just a regular monthly photo of Aubrey.  Since she can't sit up yet, they all pretty much look the same....her laying on a blanket.  She better start sitting up in the next few months or I'm going to run out of blankets to use for my background!  :-)  I'm no professional, but I think they have been turning out pretty cute!  Here's months one through four.......

Maybe I am biased, but I think she could be the next top baby model!  Anyone know the telephone number for Gerber??  ;-)

CUPCAPES!! (and colors)

Caleb really likes cupcakes...or as he calls them, "cupcapes" - LOL.  I don't want to correct him because the way he says it is just too cute!  Actually, he doesn't just say it in a normal voice (well, nothing he says is in a normal voice), he yells very excitedly "CUPCAPES!!"  And it's not just the eating of cupcakes that he likes - he likes to point them out whenever he sees them or even just pictures of them.  Aubrey has quite a few little outfits that have cupcakes on them, so he is quick to let us know when she's wearing them!

I thought it would be fun to have him help me bake some cupcakes, so we did that one morning while Aubrey was sleeping.  I let him put in the liners and he loved that.  I was going to let him help pour the mix into the mixer bowl, but he is afraid of "Mama's mix-aaaa!" so he wouldn't go near it.  He didn't even want to watch it mix around, so pretty much all he did was put in the liners.  I think he still had fun, though!  And then once they were ready to eat, I iced one for him and then gave him a bowl of sprinkles and let him decorate his own cupcake.  I thought he'd just devour the cupcake, but he was actually more interested in putting on the sprinkles one by one, so that kept him occupied for a while.

We even worked on colors using the sprinkles!  He knows all of the main colors now (for probably almost 2 months now, he's had them down)....red, blue, green, yellow, orange (sometimes known as "Home Depot"), purple, pink, brown, black, white, and sometimes gray.  As he put a sprinkle on, I would ask him what color it was or ask him to find a certain color sprinkle.  Then we lined the sprinkles up on a plate and went down the line naming them.  I wasn't really planning on doing this, but it turned out to be a good little learning time as well as fun time!

(this was on 11/3)

Dewberry Farm

Ok....still trying to play catch-up!  My new goal is to have all 2011 posts done before the new year.  I think I can do it!!

On November 13th, we went with our friends, Jenn, Jarod and Camille, to Dewberry Farm in Brookshire.  This is a really neat place!  They have lots of family and kid-friendly activities and depending on the time of year, they have a pumpkin patch and a Christmas tree farm.  We went kinda in between the pumpkin season and tree season.  I actually bought a Groupon for this back in September so we got in for half price, which was nice...especially since Caleb is still a little too small to fully enjoy all the activities.

Image

Caleb and daddy fed the goats.  Believe it or not, they actually do not have cows (of all things!) at this FARM - kinda odd, huh?!  Caleb was expecting cows, but we could not deliver.  Luckily, he didn't ask about them for too long.

Jarod, Camille, Caleb, and Rhett watching the ducks (and geese?).

checking out the baby chickens...or are these ducks?  apparently I don't know my farm fowl...

Funny story about this.  This is Caleb waiting for the pig races, which we thought the kids would enjoy.  We got there about 5 minutes before the starting time so we could get right by the fence.  Well, at the start time, they did not actually start the races.  They played this story over an extremely loud speaker that we happened to be standing right next to.  The story was about a pig on a farm doing some stuff....can't remember exactly.....and it went on for at least 5 minutes.  We all thought it would eventually pertain to the pig racing and then somehow tie into the race we were about to watch....but it didn't.  After 5 minutes or so, they abruptly ended the story (before it was finished) and the announcer of the pig races shares over the loud speaker that if you want to hear how the story ends, that you can visit the Dewberry Farm gift shop to purchase a CD of it for only $5!  Seriously?!  It was both funny and irritating that they wasted our time (while the kids were beginning to melt down) to try and sell a not-so-interesting CD of "Tales from Dewberry Farm."  Needless to say, we did not rush to the gift store to buy it!  You could literally hear kids crying and fussing as we were standing there because they really wasted a lot of time when they could have just started the races and then let people go on their way.  And then the races happened so fast that I'm not sure Caleb and Camille even knew what had happened.  The pigs did have some cute names, though - one I remember is "Kevin Bacon" - ha!

This was probably Caleb's favorite activity....a slide made of PVC pipe.

This was a "cow train" pulled by a tractor.  Caleb had a bit of a melt down right before this and didn't want to ride, but once we got going, he loved it.

This was Aubrey's first time in the Baby Bjorn and she did great!   (it was so windy)
Image

Image

We took a ride in a wagon thing (don't know the name, exactly) pulled by a tractor and Aubrey fell asleep sucking her thumb - ha!  Isn't she precious?!

Image

This was the remnants of the pumpkin patch.  Most of them were rotten.  Aubrey was still asleep here but it didn't last too long because it was so windy.

Image

The driver let Caleb sit on the tractor when we stopped at the pumpkin patch and he loved it!

Image

Image

The girl in the pink pants in the wagon kept yelling things like "hey, you can't drive the tractor!" - LOL

We had a fun day and look forward to going back!
