As I said to @SandyofCthulhu: don’t spill any blood or wine on it. Or… how did they activate the gates in Stargate SG-1? I only watched the movie, and I don’t remember how they worked there, either.

UPDATE: Preorders are now available!

And, thanks largely to user error but it’s also Amazon’s fault, the print version of CONSEQUENCES will probably be available tomorrow while the e-book goes live Friday. Silly me, I thought that when they cloned the e-book for the print version everything would get cloned, including the publication time.
But that’s a minor annoyance. The important thing is, I’ve gotten something off of my plate. Huzzah!
No, no link yet.
I don’t know if I’m ever developing this one further (background here). Short version: a crucial vote during the Articles of Confederation period resulted in both the territories defaulting to free soil status, and delayed the invention of the cotton gin by a few crucial years. This timeline’s Nullification Crisis ended with Andrew Jackson gleefully presiding over John Calhoun’s firing squad, a lot of King Cotton pro-slavery advocates heading south and west, and (as usual) Mexico taking it all on the chin.

Anyway, here’s a map. It’s set around the 1850s-1860s; and, as you can guess, many people in the United States wish that Jackson had shot even more of those Royalist sons of bitches. Certainly the Mexicans do. It should also be noted that the USA as a whole isn’t very invested in actually conquering/destroying those three kingdoms, although the border states of Texas, Houston, and Jackson have their own opinions on the matter.
Will I work on it further? Maybe. It’s an interesting setting.
I shall not miss this one. Hopefully February will be better; if nothing else, it will be shorter. Right now that feels like it might actually be enough.
Oh, and I do a monthly newsletter via Substack. This month’s entry just went up. Free, so go ahead and check it out.
And wasn’t it just a month? It’s been a while since I had one this aggravating. Fortunately, we have gotten through it.
Anyway, onto the stuff!

I am working on it right now, although I’m about to stop for the night. CONSEQUENCES will be my latest chapbook…
