After a successful 2024-2025, the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) and the Tezos Foundation have launched an expanded partnership for 2025-2026.

After a successful 2024-2025, the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) and the Tezos Foundation have launched an expanded partnership for 2025-2026.

The partnership will feature a new series of artists commissions exploring blockchain as a creative material, with a focus on FA2 smart contracts, a standardized framework in the Tezos ecosystem that allows anyone to create and manage different digital assets.

In addition to artist projects, a ​​public workshop track, the FA2 Fellowship, invites a broader community of artists to engage with FA2 through hands-on instruction, mentorship, and guided development. Complementing these two components, the program also includes a series of two live events, featuring performances and time-based pieces.

To Be Perceived, Against Evil (2026)

Inspired by Édouard Glissant’s “right to opacity,” the work asks what we choose to make visible, what we withhold, and who gets to decide. Trees shape the work on two levels: as images on the projection’s surface, and as branching data structures in the system that determines what is revealed. The projection first appears submerged in blur. Passersby become encrypted branching data to a program which decrypts this “proof of presence” through Tezos smart contracts. A single visitor may reveal only traces; a group that stays together brings more into view. For Dounia, opacity connects to her research with the Serer community in Senegal, whose cosmology centers five sacred trees tied to creation, burial, ancestry, and memory. For Myers, opacity speaks to the double-edged nature of trans visibility, and to systems that demand proof, categorization, and exposure.

At the heart of the partnership is the FA2 Fellowship, a series of virtual educational sessions focused on smart contracts and creative blockchain applications.

Tezos’s FA2 standard offers powerful capabilities for artists, enabling multi-asset structures, batch operations, and low-cost transactions that are ideal for complex, interactive works. The FA2 fellowship empowers artists and builders to learn from industry experts about the Tezos blockchain smart contract applications and develop their own projects under the guidance of MoMI curator Regina Harsanyi and participating lecturers. The program culminates in two finalists being comissioned to present a collaborative project on the MoMI Schlosser Media Wall for a 2-month exhibition period.

By completing 4 sessions, fellowship participants also qualify to apply for the Microgrants to receive further support in developing their projects.
