Punkins & Aspergers

"Not everything that steps out of line, and thus ‘abnormal’, must necessarily be ‘inferior’." – Hans Asperger (1938)

About May 12, 2010

My sweet son was diagnosed with major depression, anxiety, and ADHD in 2009 when he was six years old.  Nine months later were were told that he has Asperger’s Syndrome/Disorder.

Because my favorite name for him is “Punkin” and it’s a nickname he doesn’t seem to mind, it’s the way I thought I’d start this blog and will refer to him from now on.  I also want to protect his identity now and in the future.

My goal is to share the sweet and inspirational stories that we experience as a family.  There may be times that my mind will wander and I may gripe about the situation, but my hope is that this will be a place where I can highlight the amazing person that he is and can bring awareness to those out there that only understand Aspergers and mental illness as something intimidating.

I want to provide resources along the way that have helped us as well.  I hope that you find them helpful for your own situation or to learn more about these conditions and can provide the much needed support to those that are suffering.

Punkin is a little boy who wants to be loved, accepted, and valued just like any other child who doesn’t carry these diagnoses.  Thank you for humoring me as I share our stories.
