Breakaway Corners

Prototype Design
With our clients leading the process, we design bespoke solutions that sustainably protect your products. Our facilities allow for rapid prototyping and product testing, so that our packaging is durable, high quality, and perfectly tuned to the product it is protecting.
7 Days to Grow
The mycelium grows inside under standard environmental conditions, taking just 7 days for your packaging to emerge complete and ready to ship.
The Process
Packaging Solutions
Send us one sample of the product that needs packaging, or a CAD file with its specifications. If your product has an existing packaging solution, please ship directly in existing packaging.
Design and prototyping includes:
- 3D model of the packaging sample piece or pieces
- Two custom grown samples
- Expedited shipping (within the US) to one address
- Up to two prototype iterations
- Flat fee of $1350
A detailed dimension drawing proposal is sent for approval or changes, along with a ballpark price, before a final proposal that includes the per-part price (which comes after prototyping).
Once dimension drawing proposal is confirmed, we create custom molds to grow your packaging solution.
Design and prototyping includes:
- The molds are filled with the MycoComposite™ mix, which takes up to 4 days to grow into form.
- After growth, the pieces are removed from the mold and left for another 2 days to finish developing their velvet-smooth texture, which is completely natural, as it is mycelium.
- Kiln drying then removes water and renders the mycelium inert, so your packaging stays dry, stable, and strong.
- The final sample products are fit-tested and shipped to you for approval. One additional iteration is included for final dimension or aesthetic adjustments, if needed. Additional iterations, prototype samples, or shipping addresses require additional fees.
Once the samples are approved, the same 3D file used for prototyping is used to make more durable hard tools. This typically costs between $2k-$9k depending on annual volume needs.
Design and prototyping includes:
- This hard tool can be used to produce multiple growing molds, which are used over and over again in production.
- Your packaging can be tested to mimic the rigors of transportation and various temperatures, we are as strong as polystyrene and other foams!
- The parts can be scheduled for pickup or delivered (at cost).
