Adelle, at 1 and a half

(We are having trouble with getting pictures from the camera to the blog, but I have let that be an excuse for not blogging for to long. So, i will just have to blog non-picture stuff for now...)

Adelle is now 18 months old. Here are a few things about her right now:
-She loves nursery. Even though she just came 'of age' she has been going for awhile. Her leaders can't tell me enough about how great she is.
-Still she is such a girl!! She loves dolls, purses, necklaces, bracelets, kitchen toys, dressing up, and pink!
-Her favorite animal is horse. 'nough said.
-She is somewhat potty training herself. This has not been an idea that I planted. She likes to sit on the potty, and usually does her business there too if given the opportunity. For now we are still in diapers, I don't think she is totally ready for true potty training, however I am not about to squash her interest. If she wants to go on the potty, fine by me.
-She is really starting to talk. Every day or two I hear a new word. In addition, she talks clearly. Even strangers can tell what she is saying. So cute.
-She loves books! Adelle would be content to sit and look at books for hours and hours. This is an interest that I wholeheartedly support.
-Adelle is out of the crib. I knew she was ready when we moved to utah, but I wanted to hold on to what we could to create some consistency for her. And to find another toddler bed. But then I had the idea to just take the side of the crib off, creating a day-bed. We did that a couple of weeks ago and it has worked like a charm. She loves her bed. She transitioned out of the crib just as well as Caleb did. Ahhh, what great kids I have.

Dear Blog

Dear Blog,
We have had a lot going on. Sorry I havn't been around since Thanksgiving(!?!). It must be the unusual winter weather that has been keeping me away. You see we havn't had any snow to speak of yet. And we are well into February. No snow for Devin's mid-December graduation. No snow for Christmas in Utah. No snow for New Years in Idaho. No January snow. And you guessed it, no February snow yet either. What is with that?
At least we didn't have snow for when we moved down to Utah. Loading and unloading the 16-foot moving truck was tricky enough without the snow. Yes, you read that right. WE MOVED TO UTAH. Right in the midst of moving we also sold our home of 4 1/2 years. Whew.
We have settled into our sweet find of an apartment here in Cottonwood Heights. The kids actually have space to play in their room if they want to. I don't have to haul my laundry through the kitchen (why do apartments put the washer and dryer in the kitchen anyway?) We have family close by. And we are also walking distance from the library. Caleb and Adelle already love story time at the library.
Devin is working hard at finding a job. It pretty much takes up all of his time;)
That is what we have been up to. Doesn't sound like much, but it has kept me very very busy!
Until next time, Emily Jean

Thanksgiving

ImageWe had a busy week last week. On Tuesday Caleb was in his preschool program. It was new for me to see him up there with his class...Later that day we trucked down to Utah because Wednesday my brother Preston returned from his mission in Chile! Tons has happened since he left!

Thursday was a calm and relaxed Thanksgiving day. Calm because, well, we didn't have Thanksgiving at my mom's house. We went over to Nana's. It was great to see everyone and to celebrate Thanksgiving together. All of the food was delicious, as always.

ImageFriday we went downtown to see the lights on Temple Square as a family. (Meaning just Devin, Caleb, Adelle, and I just a family.) That was so much fun! Both kids loved it! Caleb liked getting to go up and touch the temple. He even told a few random people that that is where mommy and daddy were married. He also informed us that he is getting married there. Caleb and Adelle were not even fussy while we were out, despite the coldness. When we got home we made hot chocolate.

Saturday we had Thanksgiving again! This time it was at my mom's house. We had lots of mom's family over this time. Ya know, Thanksgiving dinner was just as yummy the second time around as it was the first time around. That night Devin and I went to see my cousins sing in their Christmas concert while the kids stayed with Grandma.

Sunday was Preston's homecoming. Once again loved ones gathered in my mom's home. It is always so wonderful to get together.

Now we are back in Rexburg. Yesterday I put up our Christmas Tree. Now if only it would snow enough to stick! (pleaseopleaseoplease)

Double Blessings

So, we have lived in our house for over 4 years. It's been a good house! When we moved in everything from the carpet to the light fixtures was original to the house. (orange swirly carpet, handles in the middle of the cupboards, etc.) One of the great original features of this house was a double oven. How incredible is that! Unfortunately, the guy we bought the house from told us that the upper over doesn't work. He figured one of the heating elements had gone bad or something. Over the years Devin had tried to figure out how to fix it multiple times with no success. The particular brand of oven that we have no longer exists, the sticker with the model number is burned beyond readability, etc. Darn. At least the other oven works. Basically the upper oven has been a decorative fixture. Remember that because I will be coming back to it...

Well last Tuesday our washing machine broke. Yes, it happened on my birthday. Devin took a quick look at it that day, but couldn't figure it out. This morning I was with some friends and I happened to mention how I currently had a broken washing machine and I hoped Devin would be able to fix it today. My friend responded by telling me that her husband was a washer repairman and he would be happy to come take a look at it. Really! Great! So, this fine brother from our ward came over and within minutes of taking the front off of the washer knew how to fix it! Yahoo.

So, jokingly I asked if he fixed ovens too. He said he did. So we went over to the oven. He asked questions and turned knobs a bit. He told us why he did not think the problem was the heat element. Then Devin showed him how the timer does work and we talked about how supposedly there is a 'start time' 'stop time' feature on this oven and fiddled with those knobs. That was all it took. Oven fixed! All these years the problem was the start time stop time feature being turned wrong! NO WAY! All this time I had two working ovens and I only have been using one! I then asked if I could make him some brownies in my now fully functioning oven.

What an awesome guy! He fixed my washer and my oven in under an hour. Out of the goodness of his heart! I love nice people! What a service!

So, today's list is a list of Double Blessings!
-two working ovens
-washer and oven fixed in the same day
-two children
-a furnace and a fireplace
-a fridge and a freezer
-slippers and fuzzy socks
-his car and her car
-a sink and a dishwasher
-mom and dad
-gramma and grampa
-cell phones and internet
-scripture and prayer

How many times in life to we go around not even realizing what we have! There are so many blessing we are given daily that we don't even know about. Sometimes God gives us blessings and we are just to stubborn or prideful to notice or accept. This experience has reminded me that I need to be grateful for the blessings that I don't see.

Rexburrrrrrrg!

Caleb is in a stage of not wanting to cooperate with the camera. I seem to have a plethora of pictures featuring the top of his head. Therefore I admonish you to enjoy the few pictures there are of his sweet face. He is such a cutie. And such a gentleman. Great big brother.

Image I had to post these because it was just so darn cute. As Adelle was exploring and entertaining herself (which does not happen often) she came across a little drawer full of bibs. She figured those bibs needed to be put to good use! She is such a little GIRL. She loves necklaces, bracelets, hair pretties, purses, and accessories of any kind. Including bibs. She is already a trend setter;)

Image I am still making bows like crazy! I like making bows. Most of these I made yesterday and today. Looks like fun huh?

Image When the weather turns cold we get the fire going. Adelle and Caleb love to help out. I have enjoyed reading by the fire again. The fire makes our home so warm and cozy, I love it! I am starting to think about using the fireplace to cook soup and tin foil dinners. MMmmmmm.

We had a wonderful Halloween! I can't believe how much candy my two kids got. We gave a bunch to Grandma K and Trevor and we still have tons! Caleb had fun being Lightning McQueen.
