	Woven in the Woods

My senior year architecture studio coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, stripping my colleagues and I of the classic collaborative studio environment; therefore, we made our own studio in the woods of Amity, Connecticut. Through an independent yearlong study that honored and embodied unique design and art-making pedagogies before customizing our own syllabus, and from multi-sensory explorations of the forest, myself and my collaborator Sam Oldshue made an intervention that could immerse the body while honoring the structures given to us by the surrounding nature.

	Riverside Park Community PlazaMethods and Form in Architecture II, Yale College, Spring 2020.
A center for my community of Washington Heights on the riverbank of the Hudson. The maze-like series of concrete walls extends from the parking lot off of the Henry Hudson Parkway at 158th Street into the river. The walls closest to the street on the east are more concentrated, creating a more narrow navigation path and allowing people to meander more slowly through the collection of murals on the wall surfaces. As the space moves towards the west and towards the river, it opens up to allow for more programs such as a kitchen, an urban outdoor gym, group seating, and gardens.

	Inside/Outside


Senior Studio, Yale College, Fall 2020


Tasked to design a program for the area outside of the Ives Main Branch of the New Haven Free Public Library, I was interested in the flow of bodies through the space around the library over time and the different activities that occur along those movements.

The library is right next to the New Haven Courthouse and across from the Green, two locations where historic protests focused on Black liberties took place. I therefore wanted to create an intervention  that would give placement to the ideas of and needed programs for liberation. 
I categorized those needed programs into four groups; cultivation, consumption, rest, and protest. In my reinterpretation of the space. I incorporated a natural landscape that is almost growing out of the library so that these programs could flow into one another and also be grounded in nature, which also speaks to liberating oneself from unnatural conditions imposed by societal norms. There are hilly enclosures where one can take shelter, smaller mounds for rest or to witness/participate in protest, an area for food consumption and distribution, a farming area, and an elevated stage for protest that has a greenhouse-esque space below.

	Festival Lunchbox


Methods and Form in Architecture II, Yale College, Spring 2020


Inspired by the consumption and production of Jamaican Festival dumplings, this lunchbox is made to share such a meal between two people, with dynamic forms and configurations that alter the orientation of this food-sharing interaction. Each compartment of the lunchbox is made for a specific component of a traditional Jamaican Festival meal; a cone with a bottom mesh for the fried dough, a sloped dish with holes to drain oily main dishes like sltfish and ackee, a colander-like dish for boiled greens and bananas, and a simple cubic box for a napkin or other components that tie-up the meal.

	Deep Sea


Methods and Form in Architecture I, Yale College, Fall 2019


Inspired by jellyfish from BBC’s Planet Earth, I sought to recreate the freeform bioluminescent body of the creature. As I worked, starting with plastic shower caps, water, and glow-in-the-dark bracelets, I realized the wonder of the jellyfish body is its thin membrane; almost nothing materially stops the jellyfish from simply spilling out into the depths of the ocean. My task: create a form that is formless, contain the seemingly uncontainable, and display the fragility between these solid and liquid states.
