Memorial Day Fun

I have gotten into the habit of forgetting to take my camera places, so you'll have to use your imagination as I describe a bit of Memorial Day Fun...

Thursday we went to the school carnival.  I adore carnivals- they are definitely one of my favorite things to do.  Since I had full view of the entire field I let the girls have their first taste of freedom and allowed them to "hang out" with their friends all night.  They would come and check in with me periodically never knowing that I could see them the whole time.  It was a good test to see how much I could trust them. (Side note- we are in for some big boy trouble when they are older- they had little boys crooning over them all night )Ethan stayed with me as my date.  We ate snow cones, rode rides, played games, ate cotton candy, won prizes and had a splendid time.  As much as I love carnival's they also remind me of the scene from Pinocchio where he is lead to Pleasure Island and there are all kinds of little boys running around gorging themselves on candy and fun without parents.....LOL.

Friday we were invited to go to the Bee's game in a suite by my friend Cheri.  As much as I confess to hate sports- I sure do love going to games.  This was a blast.  She had her daughter and three grandchildren with her so the kids had so much fun.  They cheered when they saw all the points being scored, despite the fact that the Bee's didn't score a single point.  We ate popcorn and the kids set up a little popcorn stand to sell the popcorn to us.  There was a TV- so we watched Disney Channel when the game was at a lull.  It was military night and we got to witness several new Air Force recruits take their oath.  At the end of the night there was a huge firework show set to military themed music- I have so much respect for the men and women that keep our country free and it made me tear up thinking about how lucky we are to live in a land that is free.  My dad and brother both served in the military and so it means even more to me personally.

Saturday we visited the graves of all of our loved ones that have passed away.  I love cemeteries- I know that is crazy- but I love it.  I love when the headstones give clues to what kind of person is buried there.  I love old headstones- the older the better.  I love to wonder what their life was like so long ago.  I love the sacred feeling at a cemetery.  I love to see all the flowers and tributes to loved ones lost.

Monday Jeff went golfing with his family so the kids and I had a movie party and watched Free Willy-Escape from Pirates Cove.  When Jeff came back we went to his parents house for a BBQ.  We also got to see a bird's nest in our neighborhood that was underneath the cap stone on the stone fence leading into our street.  Pretty smart bird- I'm not even sure how it got into such a small opening- but it was so fun to see the baby birds.

The nest is under this huge cement cap.

I love long family weekends.  I love the kids being home.  I love the movie Up-It's one of my favorite Disney movies of all time- so I absolutely adore this.
