Grandma

Last week on Monday January 9th my grandma passed away.  She was 89 years old.  Here are ten things I loved about her:

1. She taught 2nd grade- She adored Ethan and I know it was in part because he's one of those cute little second graders she remembered.
2. She loved Walker Texas Ranger.
3. She was very fashionable- she loved shopping and clothes and shoes.  She got her hair done once a week her entire adult life- she called it her one luxury in life.  When she passed away we found clothes with the tags still on them and brand new shoes she had never worn.  She loved to get dressed up and to look her best.
4. She was incredibly talented at cross-stitch.  She made hundreds of wall hangings, blankets, pillows, book covers, etc.  She went almost completely blind when she got older so she had to stop- the last two things she ever made were 2 crib blanket and bib sets that she gave me.  I will cherish them forever!
5. She LOVED to play cards- she is the one who taught me to play gin and to shuffle cards with a bridge.
6. When I think of her I think of clocks- she had this small travel alarm clock and I remember her bringing it every time she came to visit.  I also remember the sound of her grand-father clock when we went to visit her.
7. She had a diamond and sapphire ring she always wore.  She left it to me because when I was little I called it her diamond and pacifier ring.  I remember always wanting to see it.  It's another thing I will cherish forever.
8. I will never forget the summer I spent with her before my junior year in high school-it was so fun and I got to know her much better.
9. She is my Bixby grandma that I talked about here.
10. When we would get in trouble she would pat our bums softly and say it's just a love tap.

She came to live in Utah about seven years ago.  I am grateful we had that time to spend with her and that my kids got the chance to know her.  I will miss her very much.

Can I get a Whoot Whoot!

I decided to tackle my first official "Pinterest" project.  I pin things I love all the time and now it was time to bring one of those cool ideas to life.  My laundry room window has sat bare since we moved in.  I purchased a table cloth from Target two years ago on clearance and knew it would make a perfect roman shade.  Fast forward to Pinterest and whala...a "No-sew roman shade tutorial".  It was way harder for me than it looked- but it did only take a few days to make.  Pretty good for my first attempt.  The best part was that the whole thing cost less than $10 to make :)
