Beach and Playground Time

Brooklyn is so active right now! She just loves being outside! Even though it can be hard to chase after a 17 month year old when I'm 22 weeks pregnant, it is worth the exhaustion to see the pure joy and delight on her face!

Whenever I go with a group of mom's to the beach their kids play beside them in the sand with their toys and they can relax and talk while eating a picnic lunch. On the other hand, I spend most of the time running after my active girl! She just loves to run from person to person, picking up their things, wanting to play with their balls, kites, etc... wanting a drink from their "babas" splashing in the waves, picking up and sometimes eating shells (before I can see), and her personal favorite is throwing sand. Needless to say, by the time our 2 hrs are done I have probably walked several miles, apologized to everyone within a 1 mile radius, and am covered with sand and water.  Haha! But I wouldn't have it any other way.

Brooklyn also has begun to make a squeaky, sucking sound with her mouth. She makes the funniest face while doing it and does it at the most random times. She is doing it in the picture above. It always makes me laugh. She also will scrunch up her face, squint her eyes, and have a huge cheesy grin on her face when she is trying to be funny. Brooklyn definitely has a sense of humor. She is so much fun to be around and cheers me up all day.

I am amazed at how well she does climbing up and down the stairs and going down the slide on her own. She even tries to climb up the slide. I really have to keep my eye on this girl!

Lately she loves putting clothes and blankets on her head and walking around on her tiptoes with the funniest smile on her face.

New things about Brooklyn

I love how Brooklyn marches in place while flailing her arms when she gets excited.
Things that get her excited: food, music, going outside, dogs, seeing other people excited, her favorite T.V. shows, balls, some books, bubbles, new things

Brooklyn loves playing peekaboo. One time I was changing her diaper and she grabbed her legs, pulled them towards her face and then began to open them into the splits and close them each time saying beekabaw, which is her way of saying peekaboo. It was the funniest thing to me. I find Brooklyn in the strangest positions sometimes, especially when I am pushing her in the stroller. We will be walking around the mall and I’ll look down to see both of her legs spread eagle catching on the surrounding clothes in the aisle.

In the last week or so she has become aware and fascinated with nigh nights, or in other words anyone that looks like they are sleeping. Even if the cartoon character’s eyes in the book we are reading are drawn as lines like they are squinting she says nigh night over and over.

She is beginning to play with her doll now. Sometimes she will try to feed the baby a cheerio or rock the baby to sleep. It is so cute. I can’t help but think this is the beginning of playing pretend. I just love watching her grow and change every day.

In the last few days she has started throwing tantrums when she doesn’t get her way. She will scream and cry and stomp her feet. If I try to comfort her she will push me away or if I pick her up she will arch her back. Since it is such a new thing I am trying all sorts of strategies to keep it from happening without giving in and promoting the behavior as a means for her to get what she wants. I’m not going to lie, it has been a challenge, but I’m determined to find something that will help her learn correct behavior but not make me feel like a mean mommy all the time.

Brooklyn's 1st birthday party!

Image

December 8th, 2012 Brooklyn turned 1! We decided to drive up to Fremont to spend the day with Bismarck's family. Bismarck's mother and sister Darlene were there to see Sheba and Andre's new baby daughter Eva and it was just perfect timing.

I honestly thought Brooklyn would go crazy with the cake but she just picked at it slowly.

We played a little game together called How Well Do You Know Me? If you look closely you can see the question asked. It ended up being hilarious! Bismarck's family got really competitive about it and just laughed and laughed as Bismarck collected their papers, graded them, and announced the winners. Luckily I was able to capture some classic lines said on camera. This was one of the best memories of the trip!

Brooklyn's family went all out with gifts for Brooklyn. She was in heaven!

She even got her very first cell phone. It was so cute to see how she knew to stick it up to her ear. What a big girl!

As you can see, phones are good for more than just talking. They are quite delicious!

Brooklyn turned 1!

Here is a slideshow I put together of Brooklyn's first year. It didn't upload very well and so the quality doesn't look so great but you get the picture!

On December 8th my baby girl turned 1! I can't put into words how much I love her! She has been such a blessing in my life. Brooklyn is the most energetic girl I know. She loves to  explore, clap, dance, laugh and cry. I love how she will start laughing whenever Bismarck and I are, how she talks or makes noises almost all of the time even when she is drinking, which you think would be hard to do. Her smile can brighten any day. I love her curly Afro hair, her chubby pot belly, how she scrunches up her face and breathes heavily through her nose, how she will sprint away the moment you put her down outside and explore everything around her, how she eats paper, how she gets quiet and looks over at us whenever she is doing something she shouldn’t be. I love when she runs into my arms and calls me mama, how she helps me to see the world the way I should, or how she jams out in her car seat whenever a song with a good beat comes on.  There are so many precious moments each day that make motherhood the most meaningful and precious gift Heavenly Father could give any woman! I am so grateful that I can be with my little angel forever!

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Bismarck's Birthday

It has been forever since I posted. Better late than never though.

Happy Halloween

Image

Our ward had a fun party and Trunk or Treat! I have never gone to a Trunk or Treat before. Some people went all out decorating their trunks. Next year we will have to participate!

Image

I just loved watching Brooklyn walk around in her costume. She looked so funny with the padding.

Image

One thing Brooklyn does all the time is make brush her fingers over her lips and say babababa. Bismarck's mom said he did that all the time as well when he was a baby.

For dinner on Halloween I found some random recipe online. You end up cooking the meat and rice mixture in the pumpkin and eat it all. The pumpkin was soft but pretty bitter. Biz liked it though!

In anticipation for her 1st birthday invitation I took pictures of Brooklyn at a park. I ended up not using them for the invitation but they turned out pretty cute.

Brooklyn does this face a lot. It is like a closed mouth laugh. She squints her eyes and breathes heavily out of her nose. It is hilarious!

This apple kept her occupied and made her so happy while we sat and talked at the park!

Thanksgiving in Utah

Image

We spent most of the time at my sister Heather's new home in Saratoga Springs. It is just darling! I didn't realize how much I missed my family until we went back.

Image

One of the things Brooklyn always does is blow kisses! Anytime I say bye, bye or nigh night or kisses her hand usually goes right up into position. I never tire of it though!

Image

Brooklyn just loved playing with her big cousins! I saw her do things she has never done before like play tag. It is amazing how big kids can help the younger ones develop so fast. I need more play dates with 2 and 3 year old kids.

Image

Heather decorated the table so beautifully! The candles are my favorite!

Image

I have never made a cheesecake before but I found a recipe online for a pumpkin cheesecake. It is always fun to try new things. This was the only thing I contributed! The rest was all done by my parents and lovely sister! Below are my mom's famous potato rolls. I always stuff my face with these! Thanksgiving would not be the same without them!

Zach's face is so funny in this pic I just had to include it. I wonder what he is thinking.

Bismarck's 28th Birthday

Image

While in Utah we also celebrated Bismarck's birthday! He doesn't like sweets a lot but his favorite is pumpkin chocolate chip bread so that's what I make instead of cake.
