Brooklyn is so active right now! She just loves being outside! Even though it can be hard to chase after a 17 month year old when I'm 22 weeks pregnant, it is worth the exhaustion to see the pure joy and delight on her face!
Whenever I go with a group of mom's to the beach their kids play beside them in the sand with their toys and they can relax and talk while eating a picnic lunch. On the other hand, I spend most of the time running after my active girl! She just loves to run from person to person, picking up their things, wanting to play with their balls, kites, etc... wanting a drink from their "babas" splashing in the waves, picking up and sometimes eating shells (before I can see), and her personal favorite is throwing sand. Needless to say, by the time our 2 hrs are done I have probably walked several miles, apologized to everyone within a 1 mile radius, and am covered with sand and water. Haha! But I wouldn't have it any other way.
Brooklyn also has begun to make a squeaky, sucking sound
with her mouth. She makes the funniest face while doing it and does it at the
most random times. She is doing it in the picture above. It always makes me laugh. She also will scrunch up her face,
squint her eyes, and have a huge cheesy grin on her face when she is trying to
be funny. Brooklyn definitely has a sense of humor. She is so much fun to be
around and cheers me up all day.
I am amazed at how well she does climbing up and down the stairs and going down the slide on her own. She even tries to climb up the slide. I really have to keep my eye on this girl!
Lately
she loves putting clothes and blankets on her head and walking around on her
tiptoes with the funniest smile on her face.
New things about Brooklyn
I love how Brooklyn marches in place while flailing her arms
when she gets excited.
Things that get her excited: food, music, going outside,
dogs, seeing other people excited, her favorite T.V. shows, balls, some books,
bubbles, new things
Brooklyn loves playing peekaboo. One time I was changing her diaper and she grabbed her
legs, pulled them towards her face and then began to open them into the splits
and close them each time saying beekabaw, which is her way of saying peekaboo.
It was the funniest thing to me. I find Brooklyn in the strangest positions
sometimes, especially when I am pushing her in the stroller. We will be walking
around the mall and I’ll look down to see both of her legs spread eagle
catching on the surrounding clothes in the aisle.
In the last week or so she has become aware and fascinated
with nigh nights, or in other words anyone that looks like they are sleeping.
Even if the cartoon character’s eyes in the book we are reading are drawn as
lines like they are squinting she says nigh night over and over.
She is beginning to play with her doll now. Sometimes she
will try to feed the baby a cheerio or rock the baby to sleep. It is so cute. I
can’t help but think this is the beginning of playing pretend. I just love
watching her grow and change every day.
In the last few days she has started throwing tantrums when
she doesn’t get her way. She will scream and cry and stomp her feet. If I try to
comfort her she will push me away or if I pick her up she will arch her back.
Since it is such a new thing I am trying all sorts of strategies to keep it
from happening without giving in and promoting the behavior as a means for her
to get what she wants. I’m not going to lie, it has been a challenge, but I’m
determined to find something that will help her learn correct behavior but not
make me feel like a mean mommy all the time.
