  • My Life and Times

I was born in 1939 BC.
    That’s ‘Before Computers’.

Luckily I survived the following events in my life, such as

World War II, The London Blitz, Rationing, and worst of all… Archbishop Temple’s School.

During the mid 1950s I was enjoying Rock ‘n’ Roll and being a first generation teenager, when suddenly, just like Elvis, I found myself in uniform during ‘The Cold War’…and then

I became ‘a family’. Which meant that I sort of missed the ‘swinging sixties’, but still managed to look a complete prat in the 70s, just like everyone else.

During the ‘Thatcher Years’ I lost my hair and a lot of people lost a good deal more. My career fluctuated to say the least as I was demoted, promoted, fired and hired a number of times, but still I managed to stagger on into a welcome retirement and to celebrate 60 years of happy marriage.

The Egyptians know best.

Posted by Big John on February 5, 2011

I see that David Cameron and Hillary Clinton are holding talks about the security situation in Egypt, so will someone please tell them to mind their own bloody business !

It’s been a long time since Britain sent gun boats up the Nile and the last time we meddled in that country’s affairs it led to one of the most important and controversial events in British history. Not only did ‘The Suez Crisis’ result in deep political and public division in Britain, it also caused international uproar and pissed off US President Dwight Eisenhower.

America may still be able to wave a big stick, but Britain’s days of ‘sabre rattling’ are long gone.

Let us hope that the Egyptian people find a solution to their own problems without resorting to more violence, and that Hillary stops talking out of her arse and David stops believing that …

anyone is listening to him !
